  • How the devil used my absence to end my wife’s life – Pastor Kumuyi

How the devil used my absence to end my wife’s life – Pastor Kumuyi

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has  revisited the painful memory of the death of his first wife, Abiodun Kumuyi, blaming his absence from home during a church retreat for her passing.

Pastor Kumuyi while speaking at the Global Workers’ Conference held at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre,  recounted how her death on April 11, 2009, after a brief illness changed the trajectory of his spiritual mission.

She was married to Kumuyi for 28 years, having tied the knot on September 13, 1980. Their union was blessed with two sons, Jeremiah and John. The cleric later remarried Esther Blaize in London on October 13, 2010.

Speaking, the clergyman recalled the tragic day and suggested that the devil exploited his physical absence to strike.

“I was preaching here on Saturday, 11th April 2009, and the devil worked on my absence. My wife was at home because she had a challenge.

“I was driving out, the devil came, but I did not remember to close the spiritual door that nobody will sneak into that place (his house) and when I finished the Faith Clinic that morning, I received a message that my beloveth wife was gone,” he said.

“I ran to IBTC (home); I saw it had happened and I met some people there; they were praying and the Lord assured me that I should let it go, let that go, don’t bother about it,” he added.

Despite the tragedy, Kumuyi said he refused to sink into grief but rather transformed his sorrow into renewed spiritual energy. He declared that the loss became the foundation for a new phase in his evangelical journey—what he described as a “revenge” mission against the devil.

“I let it (his wife’s death) go, but from that day, I said ‘that one happened, this other one will no more happen.’

“Since that time, for me to revenge on the devil, I have gone to many places since she left, I have covered most of the local governments in Nigeria, I have gone to almost all the nations of Africa, I have gone to all the continents of the world, blind eyes have opened, deaf ears have opened, the lame had risen up and walk and now I am getting to another level, the dead has now been raised and so I have come to tell you, those that have gone have gone, water under the bridge that has gone is gone, all that has gone has gone, now in your family you will be in charge.

“Anywhere I go, now I will be in charge. Nothing will be allowed to steal anything away,” Kumuyi declared.

Deeper Life: Pastor kumuyi scolds choristers for indecent dressing, dance steps

The General Overseer of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor Williams Kumuyi has scolded choristers for their worldly dance and indecent dressing at a concert in Bayelsa state.

Kumuyi and some senior pastors were in Bayelsa for the ministry’s global crusade themed, ‘Full redemption for all through Christ’ where he tongue-lashed female choristers at the concert for their indecent mode of dressing and dance steps.

“Crusade does not mean that we should forget the heavenly vision and we bring the world into the church. It must stop.

“And so you pastors who are here don’t say, I saw those Deeper Life choir ladies, I saw the way they dressed. I saw what they put on. I’m going to go to my church and do that also. Those are incorrigible members of Deeper Life.

“We’ve different categories of Deeper Life members. The people who respect their pastors, the people who love their pastors, and people who accept everything their pastor says.

“They wouldn’t see me sit there and then bring the dancing of the world and dressing of the world, right in my presence and say if I can do it in his presence, then I can do it in his absence. Maybe you can. That’s the nature of incorrigibility.

“But whatever people do to me, whatever people do in my presence, I’ve made up my mind to continue with the heavenly vision.”

He said: “If you’re Deeper Life choir when you come to sing at the crusade, don’t bring that worldly dancing into the crusade where Deeper Life is organizing.

“And then, don’t bring all that kind of dress that I saw last night, a woman shall not put on that which belongs to a man. When you wear a jacket that I’m wearing now, that belongs to a man.

“When you wear your trousers or whatever makes that belongs to a man and crusade does not mean we should forget where we are coming from.
