Dele Momodu blasts Tinubu of lying to Nigerians about present state of nation’s economy

Dele Momodu, a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has said President Bola Tinubu is surrounded by liars.

Dele Momodu alleged that Tinubu’s aides who defend the administration in public, grumble behind their principal.

The PDP chieftain while speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, lamented that “Nigeria has never had it this bad”.

He said,“Every Nigerian including President Bola Tinubu’s aides know that there is bad governance in Nigeria.

“They can’t say it in his presence but they grumble behind him. Tinubu is my friend. If anybody will deceive him, I will be the only person telling that he is surrounded by liars. Nigeria has never been this bad”.

The former presidential aspirant said he expected the president to have taken some steps in cutting down the cost of governance.

“I expect Tinubu to say “Today, I am merging some of these ministries” as long as you meet the constitutionally required number of ministries, cut off the rest.

“Number two is all these excess aides. Everyday, they are awarding appointments like popcorn. You can’t run Nigeria the way you ran Lagos State”.

Protests! Tinubu’s speech baffled me-Dele Momodu

The publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, has expressed shock regarding President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast, saying that he failed to address the demands of ongoing protesters across the country.

In a nationwide broadcast on Sunday, the President addressed the nation amid #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, which began on August 1.

The social commentator and politician stated that it would be difficult for Tinubu to change a winning formula that has worked for him ever since he was the Governor of Lagos State.

Momodu noted that it was wishful thinking that the President was going to listen to the protesters and have mercy on hapless and helpless Nigerians.

He wrote, “Fellow Nigerians, good morning. After the long-awaited speech of President Bola Tinubu eventually came this morning, I’m sure most of you would be as stupefied as me.

“I must confess that I had little hope of Tinubu granting some concessions to the aggrieved Nigerians. As a man who has held an iron grip on Lagos State for the last 25 years, it would be difficult for him to change a winning formula that has worked for him ever since.

“Also, what did we expect his advisers to be telling him when most of them have been his most fanatical cronies from Lagos who have learnt never to challenge the master?

“So it was merely wishful thinking on the part of incurable optimists like me to think he was going to have mercy on hapless and seemingly helpless Nigerians.”

  • Fayose slammed for saying Northerners are cause of Tinubu’s problem

Fayose slammed for saying Northerners are cause of Tinubu’s problem

The former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has come under criticism over his remark regarding marriage practices in Northern Nigeria.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Fayose during a recent interview with Channels claimed that the practice of poor men marrying  many wives and children, an experience he witnessed in the North, is a problem to Nigeria’s growth.

According to the ex governor, President Bola Tinubu’s inability to address economic hardship was due to  “indiscriminate” childbearing and marriage in the North.

Reacting, Ovation publisher and People Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu via his X handle on Tuesday, berated Fayose over his remark, emphasizing on the urgent need to reset the country as we can no longer afford the blame game at this critical time.

He said, “My dear Brother AYO FAYOSE, I have just two questions Sir: who is more destructive to the nation, the poor man with plenty wives and children or the politician with one wife and many high maintenance girlfriends, who waste public resources on extravagant lifestyles including private jets? Who is more productive, the politician who steals the sweats and resources of the citizens or the poor man who sends his many poor wives and childten to the farmlands to grow crops for everyone of us!!!

“Your Excellency, my dear Brother, please, let’s all accept that we’ve failed this country and we need urgent reset. We cannot afford the blame games at this perilous time… May God forgive our transgressions… Warmest regards always…”

Don’t be a dictator – Dele Momodu writes Tinubu ahead of planned protest

Ovation Magazine publisher Dele Momodu has adviced President Bola Tinubu against taking the reputation of a dictator by fighting citizens’ right to protest.

Dele Momodu open letter is followed by statement releases from Nigeria’s security agencies, including Department of Security Services (DSS), Nigeria Police, Nigeria Army and Defence Headquarters against citizens’ planned hunger protest.

In a statement shared across his social media handles, Momodu reminded Tinubu that he engaged had in the past engaged in several protests before becoming president.

The former presidential candidate said, “As I write this, my mind goes back to my earliest recollection of you as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As a young journalist, you were everyone’s delight. The June 12 Presidential election annulment brought out the best in you as a pro-democracy figure.

“You spent money and time fighting the military. Our exile years were lived in constant fear and trepidation.”

The People Democratic Party (PDP)  chieftain noted that things have been very difficult for the citizens since Tinubu became President.

He said the President failed to realize the country was more complicated than Lagos State.

He continued, “Unfortunately, things have not been easy for Nigerians (except members of the privilegentsia) since you realized your lifelong ambition. And let me be frank sir. You caused it all. You did not realize that a country is much more complicated than a state.

“I’m sad and embarrassed that a fighter for democracy is now saying Nigerians will not be allowed to congregate and demonstrate on the streets, something you and I enjoyed during the military regimes, at home and abroad.

“I will never support anarchy, after engaging in peace initiatives in Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia. But I’m reasonably assured that any potential threat can be contained and nipped in the bud, since our secret service claims to have discovered the sponsors of mayhem. Such people should be arrested speedily.”

Dele Momodu further advised President Tinubu to go back to his friends who fought for democracy alongside him for sincere truth.

He told Tinubu to use the opportunity of the planned protest to test the strength of Nigeria’s security agencies.

Please Sir, go back to your original friends in civil liberties and seek their assistance. Then, use this opportunity to test the strength, security architecture and combat readiness of our security agencies. Ignore the advice of the hawks in your team. They have nothing to lose since they are mostly beneficiaries of what others died for. Resist the temptations of full blown dictatorship,” he said.

  • Nigerians refuse to pay journalists, treat media as charity – Dele Momodu

Nigerians refuse to pay journalists, treat media as charity – Dele Momodu

The publisher of the Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu has taken to social media to make a “passionate appeal” to Nigerians on the importance of treating media practitioners as businesspeople with bills to pay.

The veteran journalist via an Instagram post on Monday bemoaned the lack of respect given to journalists and their craft.

According to Momodu, Nigerians should treat journalists with dignity and not as group of persons doing charity.

He wrote: “Once again, I’m compelled to write a letter to my fellow Nigerians. This time, I wish to plead with those who see the media as a work of charity,” he wrote.

“Almost on daily basis, I receive invitation cards from friends asking us to cover birthdays, weddings, business launch, funerals, housewarming, and other such lavish events. We all love to show off the grace of GOD in our lives, which was the main reason we set up Ovation International magazine in 1996.

“Such events gulp thousands of USD. Their budgets include events planning, venues, food & beverage, lights & sound, comperes, artists, photography/videography, hotels, engineers, fabrics & fashion designers, makeup, security, car hires, jewelry & accessories, etc. The only aspect they often forget in the huge budget is the most important, MEDIA. They treat Media as the “lamb of GOD who takes away the sins of the world…” This is most unfortunate.”

Momodu said journalists in Nigeria do not take their work as business and as such they are forced to publish negative stories in order to attract attention and patronage.

He noted that most people hardly remember to show appreciation when a journalist writes positive stories but the journalist’s phones will start buzzing within minutes of publishing negative stories.

The 64-year-old added, “My appeal is that every event must include media budget. We have huge bills to pay; salaries, flights, road transportation, expensive cameras and gadgets, production, food & accommodations, risks to lives & properties, and so on. It is most unfair to pay for all services and refuse to pay ours.”

  • Custody Battle: Sophia Momodu’s uncle, Dele speaks after receiving “distressing message” from Davido

Custody Battle: Sophia Momodu’s uncle, Dele speaks after receiving “distressing message” from Davido

The Publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, has weighed in the custody battle between his niece, Sophia Momodu, and the father of her child, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Momodu, in a series of posts via his verified X handle on Saturday, expressed surprised that the Afrobeat singer filed an affidavit seeking joint custody of their child, stressing that his previous conversations with him only focused on his wedding and reconnecting with his daughter.

Momodu wrote, “My candid opinion on David Adeleke vs Sophia Momodu

“Last night, I received a distressing message from Mr David Adeleke (aka Davido). He was obviously devastated by the counter-affidavit submitted in court, earlier in the day, in response to his affidavit seeking a joint custody of his daughter with my niece Sophia Momodu.

“I had seen David’s affidavit about two weeks ago, and I was very surprised as David, and I had spoken on a video call days earlier, with him and Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, and he never told me he had any custody issues with my niece. So you can imagine my confusion to find out via social media and subsequently confirmed by my niece that he had filed an action in court seeking joint custody of their daughter.

“During the referenced video call, we were all very excited about his forthcoming wedding ceremony, an event our family congratulated him on. Prior to this, David had told me he eventually spoke to their daughter, after a long lull of about two years.

“He was very happy and excited. So I thought everything was settled, and he and Sophia would now have the opportunity to take maximum care of their daughter. I offered special thanks to David’s Dad, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, for his kindness and support for our daughter during the period of David’s absence.

“I had also taken Sophia and their daughter to my very dear friend, Governor Ademola Adeleke, seeking his intervention. To the best of my knowledge, there was never a problem of joint custody.”

The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disclosed that the problems between the singer and his niece were mainly about financial support, including school fees, accommodation and a nanny’s salary.

He noted that the real issue was the payment of accommodation, which Sophia suggested that Davido should pay half while she also paid half of the rent.

He wrote, “The issues were: non-payment of school fees for several sessions; non-payment of accommodation and salaries of a nanny. There was no car dedicated to David’s daughter. And so on. Mercifully, I mentioned all to Dr Adedeji Adeleke and he responded positively, like a true grandfather.

“On the issue of non-payment of school fees, David’s Dad cleared everything and also set up payments of future bills. He gave his granddaughter a car to take her to school. The remaining issue was accommodation.

“David’s Dad verbally offered, in his discussions with me, one of their family apartments in Oniru Estate, Victoria Island, however, maybe due to miscommunication, David’s lawyers had communicated otherwise. After Sophia clarified with me, she politely declined the offer, and her reason was tenable in my view, because, since she’s not married to David, she can’t be comfortable living in a place swarming with David’s family members.

“She and her daughter had been living in Ikoyi before David and Sophia started their latest quarrels. Sophia’s request was that David should pay half of the accommodation while she would pay the other half. David said he could only contribute N5million annually.”

The veteran journalist further asserted that Sophia allowed Davido access to their daughter, provided she had her nanny around, adding that Imade also made the same request.

He said, “My opinion is that the absence of camaraderie between David and Sophia has caused this debacle. I have cautioned repeatedly that their daughter must not be allowed to suffer or be treated like a second-class child. David’s global status makes this imperative.

“Sophia allowed David access to their daughter, provided she has her nanny around 24/7. The 9-year-old herself made this request and I believe this should be favourably considered and accepted. My grand-niece had been released to go out with her cousins on several occasions.

“The Governor’s daughter, Nike, was at Sophia’s house with the Governor’s grandson last Christmas Day, despite the fact that there wasn’t ample notice & she was still granted access.

“Two months ago, the Governor’s son, Sina Rambo, requested a play date between the kids & Sophia rented out a children’s place in Victoria Island for them to spend hours together. The only time she couldn’t join her father’s family was when her grandfather requested to go on vacation with her for three weeks last year, as the notice was too short, and Sophia had already paid for their own trips, due to a lack of communication between the parents.”

Momodu urged both parties to prioritise their daughter’s well-being and compromise on custody and financial responsibilities and urged them to avoid rhetorics in the media.

He added, “The court yesterday referred the case for possible settlement by the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) section of the court during Settlement Week, and I strongly advise that David (and Sophia) engage truly with the process as opposed to making harmful and irreversible statements on social media which not only violate the law but the interest of their child. I have, in the past 9 years, tried my best to ensure amicable resolution of disputes and encouraged both parents to have a proper structure put in place for the welfare of their daughter.

“It is important to note that Sophia did not instigate this court action and is only seeking to protect their daughter and ensure that there is a structured, safe and sustainable manner in which father and child can engage with each other.

“The vitriolic rhetoric in the media should be avoided by all means, as this only further inflames what is already a traumatic experience for all parties involved, especially the child in question.”

The publisher of Ovation magazine and one of the chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dele Momodu has said FCT minister Nyesom Wike wants to be the king of two political parties.

Momodu on Wednesday explained that the resources available to Wike are humongous and irresistible while reacting to an online user who faulted PDP’s silence over Wike.

Wike, who is the immediate past governor of River State and also a PDP member worked against his party during the 2023 presidential election in favour of the ruling party, APC.

The X user TENIBEGILOJU202 posted: “PDP is the most useless party in the world! rather than take a bold step on Wike, they sent PDP governors to beg him! I am beginning to think dat there is big secret that Wike has against PDP leaders dat made him untouchable. @BwalaDaniel @DeleMomodu you don’t belong in dat party.”

Momodu replied: “When a tsetse fly perches piercingly on your testicle, you require all the skills and wisdom to get rid of it. The extraordinary resources available to NYESOM WIKE, courtesy of PDP, ironically, are so humongous, and irresistible to most Nigerian politicians, the reason he wants to be king in two political parties, simultaneously!!.”

“I will support a government that appears very reasonable and sympathetic to the citizens of Nigeria,” he wrote on X on Wednesday evening.
