PDP Crisis: Dele Momodu appeals to Wike’s camp

Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, has lent his voice on the lingering crisis bedeviling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Recall that some chieftains of the party have pulled out of the 2023 campaign team of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the party’s presidential candidate.

Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike and his sympathizers have announced they will not be part of the PDP campaign team ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The development was disclosed shortly after a meeting early Wednesday morning in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

It was gathered that members of Wike’s team, during the meeting, vowed not to play any role in Atiku’s campaign ahead of the 2023 general elections.

They insist that the party’s National Chairman Iyiorcha Ayu should resign from his position as a condition for them to partake in its activities.

However, in his reaction, to the development, Momodu, posited that situation will definitely calm down in the end.

The Ovation Magazine publisher, made this known during an interview on Arise Tv Morning programme on Thursday.

He also appealed to Wike, who he described as his friend and brother, not to destroy what he had worked so hard to build, adding that he should not carry it too far.

“Well, I believe that things will calm down eventually. We will continue to appeal to aggrieved members of the party. As a journalist you know that no matter what happens, no news can remain permanently on the front burner and that is the reason I have been appealing to my very dear friend, my good brother, governor Nyesom Wike, that, look, don’t carry it too far.

“It is months after the presidential primary, people are still angry, people are still aggrieved, which is very unfortunate. And it is important to know something, is it possible for Atiku to unilaterally remove Dr. Ayu? The answer is no.

“So those who are aggrieved should continue to engage the party and should not say things that would destroy the party because every day you attack your party, what you intend to do is to weaken the party so if tomorrow we remove Ayu and the party is dead so what have you gain?

“So for me, we must continue to engage in dialogue that is the whole basis of democracy. I think our candidate has done very well. He travelled to London to engage directly with governor Wike and his friends and his supporters and that is the right thing to do. He’s done that. And what I thought they would do was come back home to Nigeria and continue the engagement. But every day, there is a new threat against the party.

“I am worried, especially for a man who has done enough for the party. Governor Wike has been the coastal boy of PDP. He is easily the best governor in Nigeria in terms of performance and delivery of the dividends of democracy to his people and to Nigeria. He should not destroy what he has worked so hard to build.” He said.

  • 2023: Dele Momodu relays encounter with Oluremi Tinubu, reveals who he will support for presidency

2023: Dele Momodu relays encounter with Oluremi Tinubu, reveals who he will support for presidency

Ovation Magazine publisher and presidential aspirant under the auspices of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Dele Momodu has recounted his encounter with the wife of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Oluremi Tinubu at an event in Lagos.

Momodu recounted what transpired between him and Oluremi on his Instagram page.

He said his decision to support the PDP candidate was born out of respect for his party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Momodu noted that the ruling APC hasn’t done well and his mission is to support someone to unseat them.

He said,  “Only two people, apart from the photographers, witnessed what happened between me and Senator Oluremi Tinubu yesterday, at the funeral service of Chief Kemi Nelson at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church in Ikeja, Lagos.

“Before some people add salt and pepper (sic) to it, I need to state precisely what happened. Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Dr. Tunji Olowolafe and I had walked in about the same time and we went to greet my very dear sister, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Immediately she saw me, we exchanged our usual pleasantries, and then she asked me, “So, Bob  Dee, you’re not going to campaign for my husband?” I smiled and remained very calm before replying, “Your Excellency, I’m in PDP.” She didn’t find it funny and regaled us with the past I shared with her husband and I tried to calm her down.

“Anyway, I went back to my seat and pondered on what just happened and I soliloquized. Before the PDP primary, I had been asked repeatedly by journalists if I’ll dump PDP if I don’t get the ticket, and my answer was NO (sic). So if I had gotten the PDP ticket, would I step down for TINUBU of APC, the answer is No (sic).

“I joined PDP because APC was leading Nigeria to Golgotha. APC candidates are promising to continue BUHARI’S ‘good works!’ (sic) I joined PDP to sack APC from power and to do this I needed a strong opposition party. I had preached to my younger friends that only a mainstream party like PDP can achieve this in 2023.”

Momodu, however, said that while he would respect the opposing views of his friends, he chose to place Nigeria over friendship.

He added, “This remains my conviction. I practice what I preach. Those who disagree are in other parties and I respect their opinions and wish them well. I’m in PDP. I love ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU. We’ve truly come way back. I love PROFESSOR YEMI OSINBAJO. I love RT. HON. CHIBUIKE  ROTIMI AMAECHI… And all my APC friends… (sic) But APC has done too much damage to Nigeria.

“I choose to place Nigeria above friendship… I will try my best to support and encourage our PDP candidate ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR  (sic) to do the right things in our party and to rescue our dear beloved country from the vestiges of oppression, religious intolerance,  poverty, terrorism, infrastructure decay, economic wows, unemployment. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

My reply to Tinubu’s wife after asking me to campaign for her husband – Dele Momodu

Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu, has revealed what he told Remi Tinubu, the wife of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu when she asked him to campaign for her husband.

Momodu said Tinubu’s wife made the appeal during an event in Lagos State.

In an Instagram post on Friday, the former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant said he wouldn’t support Tinubu’s ambition, though he loves the APC presidential candidate.

Momodu explained that the “APC has done too much damage to Nigeria.”

He wrote, “Only two people, apart from the photographers, witnessed what happened between me and Senator Mrs Oluremi Tinubu yesterday, at the funeral service of Chief Mrs Kemi Nelson, at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church in Ikeja, Lagos. Before some people add salt and pepper to it, I need to state precisely what happened.

  • Wike only playing mind games to quit PDP – Dele Momodu

Wike only playing mind games to quit PDP – Dele Momodu

Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu has said Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is only playing mind games and will not dump the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to join the main opposition party.

There had been disagreements in the PDP since the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections.

The governor is widely believed to be angry that Atiku settled for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate.

But Momodu believes Wike will not abandon the party because he is a principled politician, adding that he is just playing mind games.

“For me, governor Wike is a very principled man; if there is one thing he has been consistent about, it is his love for PDP; I believe he will not leave PDP.

“He is playing a mind game and he is good at it. What shall it profit him if he joins APC?” Momodu asked on a Channels TV programme on Monday.

  • Of Armageddon, Dele Momodu, low quality rumour and Redeemed Church – By Mideno Bayagbon

Of Armageddon, Dele Momodu, low quality rumour and Redeemed Church – By Mideno Bayagbon

    Mideno Bayagbon
    (mideno@thenewsguru.ng)

I don’t know how many people read the column by Dele Momodu, last week, which he titled: Establishment of political arm by RCCG ‘an invitation to Armageddon’. In it, he took a low quality rumour, garnished it with pompous and unbelievable self righteous anger in an ill-digested admonition of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and its revered General Overseer, the humble, unassuming and well regarded Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

The Ovation magazine publisher, and now PDP presidential aspirant, like most of us were shocked last week when an official memo of the Redeemed Christian Church of God was leaked online. In it the church directed all its Nigerian affiliate branches to set up a unit which will encourage its members to stop sitting on the fence and get involved in the political activities of the country. By that it created a Directorate for Politics and Governance ahead of the 2023 general elections. While most people were still trying to understand why the church took this potentially controversial decision, a new dimension was introduced.

One Femi Emmanuel, who is Director of National Directorate of Politics and Governance, PFN, issued a statement in which he admonished that: “let no one read any negative or ulterior motives to the memo from the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). This is an answered prayer for us in DPG. This is what we have been asking our General Overseers (GOs) to do since. Many more will do so soon as we are in consultation with them.”

By this, it became clear that the RCCG memo is in obedience to the directives by the Pentecostal Fellowship of NIgeria (PFN). Curious as this directive might appear, it nonetheless showcases the depth of governmental failure, at all levels. It reflects how deep the nation has sunk. It advertises the frustration of Nigerians over the incompetent, self-centred, corrupt political leadership. Most Nigerians agree: leadership rascality and impunity threaten the very foundation of the nation’s existence.

Dele Momodu, a celebrity reporter turned politician, perhaps without thinking through his reactions thoroughly, in a strongly worded treatise warned the church to immediately revise its decision as it could trigger political upheavals of uncommon proportions. He didn’t stop there. His anger seems to have been triggered by what he called a rumour to the effect that the RCCG wants to use this directorate to enthrone Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as president in the 2023 elections. He says that is a dangerous trend which will not augur well for the amity of the nation. He fears that it could lead to religious and political implosion with devastating effect on the unity of the country. He says that is a sure way to political Armageddon for NIgeria.

According to him: “As soon as I read the memo establishing a political arm of our church, I realised this was nothing but an invitation to Armageddon….I asked for what the motive(s) could have been, and the general conspiracy theory was that our church was setting up an extensive network for the obvious Presidential ambition of the current Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, although couched in terms which ostensibly suggested that the church wished to support all of its congregation who wished to contest the next general elections and made their aspirations known to the newly formed Church department. Personally the theory didn’t jell with me. To the best of my knowledge, Professor Osinbajo is not the only member of the church contesting the Presidential election.”

Most people who have reacted to or discussed this rumoured conspiracy theory, could not see the immediate link between Professor Osinbajo, who is yet to officially indicate interest in the race, and the establishment of this arm of the church. This is more so since it is political parties which choose their candidates, through primaries or consensus. Legally and constitutionally, no church or mosque can compel any party to adopt their chosen member as the candidate of the party in any given election.

While I hold no brief for the RCCG or its General Overseer, or Professor Osinbajo, there are so many obvious fallacies peddled in the Momodu article. First, a special directorate was created to support the Presidential ambition of the Vice President. Really? The RCCG or its leader, Pastor Adeboye, will sacrifice its reputation, its assigned duties to win and keep souls for Jesus Christ, on the altar of a single man’s political ambition?

Assuming without conceding that it is even true the Church wants to support the ambition of the Vice President, how will a late hour directorate as this, help him, first to become the candidate of the APC and then win the Presidential elections in less than one year from now? What political magic wand does the Church have to bring this to pass?

Let’s stretch this further. Does the church or its members have voting rights at, either the PDP and APC or any of the other mushroom parties’ primaries? Or since Yemi Osinbajo is in office, courtesy of the All Progressive Congress, does that translate to mean that the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has subsumed itself as an affiliate of the APC and has become so powerful therein that it can determine who the party chooses as its flag bearer for the Presidential elections next year?

What is the guarantee that Professor Osinbajo, should he eventually join the race, can trounce the political heavyweights who have indicated interest in his party to run for the office? Everyone knows how extensive and politically sagacious a Bola Tinubu, a Rotimi Amaechi or even a Kayode Fayemi can be. What will compel a Pastor Adeboye to sacrifice the hard won reputation of the church on the treacherous cesspit of APC politics?

How possible is it for Pastor Adeboye to give directives that all members must vote for Professor Osinbajo without incurring the wrath of members who are members of other political parties? Would he pointedly come out to support an aspirant who is just one among his “many children” who are interested in vying for the Presidency of NIgeria? The Adeboye the world knows and respect will never do a thing like that.

That is why I am still trying to understand Momodu’s motives, why he wrote the article without exercising the expected rigours of the profession that made him. Why did he run with a rumour that, even on the face of it, lacks merit, looks suspect and could only have emanated from some drunken beer parlour mill? Why was he in a hurry to demonise the RCCG, Pastor Adeboye and Professor Osinbajo? What was this “cry wolf” warning targeted at? He is not known for blackmail. Could it then be envy? Or self promotion? Is this a well thought out move to help frustrate the rumoured ambition of the Vice President? Now I sound like an Osinbajo apologist! One expects Momodu to know better.

By his own admission, he is a “sometimes member” of the RCCG. He says he is well connected to the Adeboye family and top shots of the church. Why then did he not reach out and get the right perspectives to this church directive before rushing to his audience with the holier-than-thou cry of Armageddon, Armageddon?

If Momodu had restricted himself to highlighting merits and demerits of the move by the RCCG, hence PFN, to setting up the political directorate and its possible implications, one would understand. For indeed it is curious. Under normal circumstances the church should have no business having a political unit. But then, this is Nigeria where those who rig elections, watering their “victory” by shedding the blood of innocent Nigerians, come to church or mosque thereafter to give thanks to God!

The two major religions in the country, Christianity and Islam, must rise up and be counted. It is their members who are drowning the nation and pushing it to the precipice of disintegration and economic doom.

  • I’m contesting for president to change the nation’s narrative – Dele Momodu

I’m contesting for president to change the nation’s narrative – Dele Momodu

The Ovation magazine publisher, Chief Dele Momodu, says his decision to come out to contest for the presidency is to change the narrative and work towards achieving growth, progress and the nation’s development.
Momodu stated this on Monday, during a consultation visit to the residence of Olubadan designate, Oba Lekan Balogun, at Alarere area in Ibadan.
The publisher, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he made similar attempts 11 years ago under the umbrella of National Conscience Party (NCP), but “this time around, I will contest under PDP to actualise my dream.”
According to him, Nigerians have over the years complained about the myriad of problems confronting the country.
“But solution to those problems can not come through the same set of people that have remained in the corridors of power,” he said.
The politician described the Olubadan designate as a Nigerian deep and versed in knowledge of either politics or administration.
He presented three volumes of book, titled ‘The untold story of Dele Momodu’s Presidential Campaign’, which, according to him, encapsulate his policies, to the Olubadan designate.
Chief Hamidu Ajibade, who responded on behalf of Oba Balogun, noted that Momodu had used his profession through publication of Ovation Magazine to positively project and advance the cause of Nigeria and Nigerians.
He prayed that his efforts of the past years would go a very long way to assist his aspiration.

Momodu blames APC over “bad leadership” in Nigeria

The publisher of Ovation Magazine International, Dele Momodu, has blamed the All Progressives Congress, APC, for what he described as “bad leadership” in Nigeria.

In his words: “Nigeria needs to be saved from the bad leadership that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has brought.”

Momodu, who is the presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, visited the graveside of his mother as he kicked off his campaign to be president in 2023.

Momodu posted the events which happened this weekend on his Instagram page.

However, his mother, Madam Gladys Arike Momodu nee Fatoye died in May 2007.

The PDP Presidential aspirant also visited the palace of Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi, to seek royal blessings.

Momodu was welcomed to the palace by relatives and family members of his late mother, as well as his supporters and admirers.

Addressing the gathering at the palace, he said: “I have been greatly humbled by the excitement already generated which reminds me of how it was 29 years ago when your good friend, my own adopted father, Chief Moshood Abiola, threw his hat in the ring.

“It is very obvious that Nigerians are eager to restore that promise of hope and the accompanying peace and joy that we lost.”

2023 Elections: Dele Momodu seeks Atiku’s support

Veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, has expressed hope that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will support his presidential ambition.

Momodu said he looks forward to Atiku’s massive support towards his presidential ambition in 2023.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Publisher of Ovation Magazine, said he supported Atiku during the last presidential election, hence he expects the same in 2023.

According to Momodu: “I supported The Wazirin Adamawa Alhaji Atiku Abubakar passionately in 2019. I’m looking forward to his massive support when it comes to my turn. Highest respect Sir.”

Momodu had in January declared his interest to run for presidency under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

He disclosed this while handing a letter of interest to the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.

The media mogul had said he decided to run for the Presidency after much deliberation with his family, stakeholders and mentors.
