ABRAKA KILLING: Oborevwori assures justice, condoles with victim’s family

…urges Security Agencies to Adhere to Rules of Engagement

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Sunday, assured that justice would be served in the killing of a yet-to-be-identified lady in Abraka by security operatives.

He consoled the bereaved family and urged security operatives to exercise maximum restraint by adhering strictly to established operational standards in order to avoid unnecessary harm to members of the public.

The tragic incident occurred when the security operatives, reportedly in pursuit of suspected criminals, allegedly fired a shot that struck the victim.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Oborevwori, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, described the killing as “very unfortunate,” stressing that the tragedy could have been avoided had the operatives adhered strictly to standard operational procedures.

He charged security agencies operating in the state to exercise restraint and professionalism in the discharge of their duties to avoid needless loss of innocent lives.

Governor Oborevwori reiterated his government’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents of the state, while urging the people of Abraka to remain calm as investigations continue into the incident.

  • Ned Nwoko to Anioma people: “We are all Igbos”

Ned Nwoko to Anioma people: “We are all Igbos”

Senator Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta North) has called on Anioma people in Delta State to embrace their Igbo identity.

Nwoko also called on them to join hands with Nigerians from the Eastern part of the country in building a stronger and more united Nigeria.

Nwoko, according to his Media Directorate, was said to have made the call in Asaba at a conference organised by the Unification Movement.

The conference, with the theme ‘Igbo Bu Ofu” (Igbos are One)’, was held in collaboration with the Ndi na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation,

The Igbo Unification Movement and Ndi na Asu Bia have in recent years become strong advocacy platforms championing the cultural, historical, and political unity of Igbo-speaking communities across Nigeria, including Anioma (Delta north senatorial district), Igbanke in Edo, and other border areas.

The groups stated that reclaiming a collective Igbo identity was crucial to political strength, cultural revival, and correcting decades of identity distortion.

The lawmaker, while commending the organisers for their courage and vision, said that their efforts aligned with his long-standing philosophy on Anioma identity and the need for an Anioma State to be carved out of Delta North.

“There is no argument about our Igbo identity. I understand history very well. I have a degree in history. I know the migration of the Igbo people, and I know clearly that we, the Anioma, are Igbo.

“The time has come for us to reverse the old narratives that separated us from our brothers across the Niger,” he said.

Nwoko, who had sponsored a motion for the creation of an Anioma State in the National Assembly, said the agitation was not about politics or personal ambition, but about correcting historical imbalances.

According to him, his dream is for an Ndokwa son or daughter to emerge as the first Governor of Anioma State, when it is created.

“This is not about APC, PDP, or Labour Party; it is about identity, justice, and fairness. I have no interest in being governor, but I want Anioma to stand tall with its own state, with Asaba as its capital.

“That way, we also fulfill the dream of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which has always recognised Anioma as one of the Igbo states,” he said.

Recalling his childhood experience during the Nigerian civil war, he said, identity crisis from that era must now give way to truth and reconciliation.

He lauded academics and activists, including Prof. Abigail Ogwezzy of the University of Lagos, whose research on Anioma linguistics and history had shed light on the people’s Igbo roots.

The Senator highlighted the wider significance of the gathering, saying, “The Igbo man is Igbo everywhere, whether from Delta, Imo, or Abia.

“Just like a Chinese man remains Chinese anywhere in the world, Anioma must rise to embrace its identity. That is the only way we can achieve unity and political relevance.”

He urged the Igbo Unification Movement, Ndi na Asu Bia, and other cultural organisations to continue their advocacy, education, and mobilisation.

Nwoko stressed that only through such collective efforts can the dream of a united Igbo nation and the creation of Anioma State be realised.

Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, commended the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) for constructing the facility as part of its corporate social responsibility.

He noted that the state government, through the Ministry of Science and Technology, had equipped the centre with modern ICT tools, furniture, and accessories to make it a fully functional hub for digital learning.

“Today’s event is remarkable, as it brings a modern communication and learning hub right to the heart of our community. With the establishment of this ICT and CBT centre in Onicha-Olona, our young people no longer need to look far for such facilities.

“More than just infrastructure, this state-of-the-art centre represents a bold step in our commitment to bridge the digital divide, empower our people, and prepare Deltans with the skills and opportunities to excel in the 21st century,” the Governor said.

He expressed gratitude to Mrs Diana Okonta, former NDIC Board Member, for her strong advocacy in ensuring the project’s take-off, and acknowledged former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the first phase of the project.

Oborevwori assured that under his administration’s MORE Agenda, Delta youths would continue to have access to platforms that promote digital literacy, job creation, and self-reliance.

He encouraged the people of Onicha-Olona and the wider Delta community to take full advantage of the opportunities the centre provides.

In his remarks, Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, described the centre as a gateway to effective education, innovation, and economic growth for Onicha-Olona and Delta State at large. He commended the state government the completion of the project.

Also speaking, the President-General of the Onicha-Olona Development Union, Sir Patrick Ejido, said the centre, equipped with 300 workstations, solar power supply, and modern facilities, was a beacon of innovation and empowerment for the community.

He thanked the NDIC, community leaders, and other stakeholders who played a role in making the project a reality, while assuring that the host community would protect and sustain the centre.

The event attracted government officials, traditional leaders, community representatives, and youths.

  • “Desist from act capable of turning Delta into a war zone”-IPAC Chairman warns Omo-Agege and supporters

“Desist from act capable of turning Delta into a war zone”-IPAC Chairman warns Omo-Agege and supporters

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, Delta State, has cautioned all political parties particularly Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and his loyalists to stay away from act capable of causing chaos in the state.

Addressing journalists in Asaba, the IPAC chairman, Prince Henry Eze, condemned the one-million-man march organised by supporters of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, describing it as unlawful and unruly.

He noted that the march was marred by threats, intimidation, and inflammatory remarks, which contravened the electoral acts and the IPAC code of conduct.

He also condemned the videos of supporters alleging inciting violence now circulating on social media, noting that such act is undemocratic and is capable of destabilising the state.

“I urge you to resolve and warn as follows. 1. That IPAC-Delta State chapter frowns deeply at the unruly one-million-man march organised by supporters of Senator Omo-Agege on the 25th of August 2025, in the state.

“The sharply organised march, which was characterised by threats, intimidation, and invectives, clearly contravenes the electoral acts and the IPAC code of conduct for political parties.

” That the resort to uncouth language, such as we saw in the video already in circulation on social media, falls short of democratic standards and norms and should be condemned by men of good conscience.

“The supporters of Omo-Agege apparently preached violence in their march and this is unacceptable and clearly undemocratic.

“The chairman accused some Omo-Agege supporters of primitive displays of desperation and naked hunger for power while undermining the peace currently being enjoyed in Delta State.

“The chairman is also worried on the silence of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies, warning that failure to act could entrench lawlessness.

He called on President Bola TInubu, INEC, and security agencies to immediately call Omo-Agege and his supporters to order to prevent the breakdown of law and order in Delta State.

He said “INEC is the umpire for all political parties during the election and should know better that time for campaigns has not been authorised and ought to call the supporters of OmoAgege and his political party to order for violating the INEC guidelines and the electoral acts and sanction them in accordance with the law.

IPAC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and political harmony while remaining vigilant as the 2027 election approaches, ensuring that all political actors survive by due process and democratic norms.

Gov Oborevwori launches Delta into global market space, says “Delta State is Open – and Ready – for Business”

…declares I eagerly look forward to partnering with the business community of Brazil for our mutual benefit

The Governor of Delta state, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday launched the ‘Big Heart ‘ into the global market space declaring that Delta is open and ready for business.

Apparently, Oborevwori is arguably the first Chief Executive of the oil rich state to make such a global move for investors to tap into the many untapped business opportunities in virtually all the local government areas of the Niger Delta region.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports Oborevwori opened up all the potentials and moves made by his administration at ‘The Delta -State Focused Business/Investment Roundtable, , at Sao Pailo Brazil.

    Hear him:

“I am delighted to be here to discuss collaborations between Delta State and the business
community of Brazil at this business roundtable .

“This forum holds bright prospects for us to share ideas and forge strategic partnerships for the
purposes of accelerated economic growth and sustainable development in our respective climes.

“Without an iota of doubt, Nigeria and Brazil share a lot in common. Nigeria is diversifying its
economy beyond oil, with agriculture as a key sector, following Brazil’s model.

    “Brazil has a relatively
high population density like Nigeria, which is the most populous country in Africa, and also one of
the most densely populated countries in the world. Both countries enjoy tropical climate and are known for their diverse and vibrant cultures. And lest I forget, Nigeria and Brazil are both
    passionate about football.

” I am therefore excited to be at the forefront of forging this prospective partnership during my
tenure as Governor of Delta state. Coincidentally, we just celebrated our 34th anniversary as a
state, precisely created on August 27, 1991.

“Since then, our dear state has grown to become one of
the five (5) largest economies out of the thirty six states in Nigeria.

” Let me highlight a few
interesting facts that makes Delta State distinguished:
    • The state is strategically located in the oil-rich Niger Delta with land mass of over eighteen
thousand square kilometres and a population of over 6 million people, who are mostly youths,
reputable across the country particularly for their intelligence, drive, resilience, determination,
    industry and sportsmanship.

    • Delta state is the leading producer of oil and it also houses the largest reserve of gas in the
    country.

“In addition, the state has two of the largest crude oil export terminals; the Escravos and
    Forcados export terminals.

    • Delta State also has the longest coastline in Nigeria of about one hundred and sixty three (163km)
and is home to four sea ports; (Burutu, Warri, Sapele, and Koko) sea ports.

    “I wish to inform you
that the Burutu Sea Port, which is under concession needs investors to take it through its three-
    phased developmental plan.

“The first phase comprises the development of the existing port,
leading ultimately to the third phase, which will involve the construction of an inter-continental
trans-shipment port with depth of 23 metres. As a sign of commitment, Delta State Government holds 5% equity in the project meant to de-risk investment in the project.

    “Investing in this port will
transform it to becoming the trans-shipment centre for West and South-West Africa as well as the
    hub of Nigeria’s import-export trade.

“The river network provides a direct route to the Atlantic
    Ocean, thereby facilitating international trade;
    • Good ecology and fertile soil for agriculture; the state enjoys comparative advantages in the
production of oil palm, cassava, and aquaculture. Maize, tomato, rice, and vegetables are also
    grown in abundant quantities.

“There are investment opportunities in the livestock (meat processing
and storage facilities), establishment of ranches, breeder farms and hatcheries. There are also investment windows in mechanized agriculture through the provision of agricultural land and
    deployment of machinery for increased productivity;

    • Large deposits of solid mineral resources such as kaolin, lignite, silica, iron ore, coal, and
bentonite for commercial exploration and processing. With the availability of natural gas in clay bearing areas, investors have the advantage of producing clay products with clean and relatively
    cheaper energy;

    • The state is a nexus connecting major market centres in Nigeria such as Lagos, Onitsha, and Aba.
Lagos is the business capital of Nigeria, while Onitsha and Aba are the powerhouses of trade and
    commerce in the country;
    • Accessibility by air is covered with the three airports in Delta namely; Asaba International and
Cargo Airport, Osubi Airport, and Escravos Airport.

    ” Finally, it is about the only state in Nigeria with multiple urban centres, numbering as many as ten;
thus, it is a highly cosmopolitan state.

Delta State is Open – and Ready – for Business

“Since I assumed office on May 29, 2023, my administration has invested massively in upgrading
road infrastructure in the state to improve urban-rural connectivity and enhance free flow of goods
    and services.

“We have also been very deliberate and intentional in formulating policies and programmes that would enhance the Ease of Doing Business.

“Some of the measures we have taken include but not limited to the following:
    • Harmonisation of taxes and consolidated payment;
    • Establishment of Economic Free Trade Zones: we have strategically created our economic free
trade zones in Koko and Kwale with over 3, 200 hectares of land for investors to tap into.

    “Delta State
Government is presently holding 100% ownership, however, We are desirous to have anchor
    investors and tenants into these zones as soon as they show interest;
    • Promulgation of the appropriate laws to enable a conducive atmosphere for investors and
businesses; examples of such laws include the Delta State Investment Development Agency Law
2016, Delta State Security Trust Fund Law 2016, Delta State Public and Private Protection Law 2018
and the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Law, 2024.

“Just last week in Abuja, we hosted a very successful business round table with renewable energy investors in conjunction with the Rural Electrification Agency and World Bank.
    • Continuous investment in security by government to create a safe and secure environment for
    business to thrive.

“In 2024, Delta State was adjudged the Safest State for Oil and Gas Investments in Nigeria by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the apex regulatory body in the industry.

” In conclusion, I want to point out that we are continually engaging in strategic partnerships with
the private sector through promotional policies and activities to make Delta State an investment
    haven.

“Our agro-industrialisation plan provides ample opportunities for profitable private sector
investments in commercial agriculture and agribusiness.

“We have invested in an agro-industrial park that spans over 180 hectares of land, with plans for
various facilities such as rice factories, warehouses, packing houses, and cold storage area.

” The park is designed as a multipurpose and multi-product epicentre of agro-processing, agro-industrial,
    and agribusiness activities.

“It can host 20-30 agro-processing factories and agro-business
enterprises. We are also desirous of entering into partnerships with prospective investors under a
Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in housing and manufacturing.

    “We use this opportunity to
invite you to take advantage of my administration’s recent adoption of a decentralized mini-grid
model to drive a sustainable energy sector to boost our industrialization in the state.

“Finally, it will be our pleasure to undertake a tour of some of your famous ranches for our
education and benefit. We recognize that Brazil is a model in this business, and it is our desire to introduce this in our state.

“On this note, I want to thank you for your time and attention. I eagerly look forward to partnering
with the business community of Brazil for our mutual benefit.

  • Delta at 34: Asaba has become home to all – Izeze

Delta at 34: Asaba has become home to all – Izeze

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has described the transformation of the state capital, Asaba, into a metropolitan city as one of the many reasons Deltans should celebrate the state’s 34th anniversary.

Speaking with journalists after the interdenominational thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, on Wednesday, Izeze recalled his emotions at the announcement of Asaba as the state capital in 1991, admitting that at the time, he had mixed feelings.

“Thirty-four years ago, I remember exactly where I was when Delta State was created. Honestly, my heart was broken when I first heard that Asaba was chosen as the capital.

“But today, here we are. I have come to love Asaba like home. Asaba has truly become home to all of us and that alone is enough reason to celebrate,” he said.

The Commissioner highlighted the unity and resilience that have held Delta together since creation, despite doubts and skepticism at inception.

“Many had thought Delta would not survive because it wasn’t a consensus state. But 34 years on, we have remained united, with successive democratic governments, and Delta is the only state in Nigeria that has consistently respected the principle of zoning since the return of democracy in 1999. That alone is more than enough reason to celebrate,” he added.

On the strides of development, Izeze noted the vast infrastructural transformation across the state, contrasting it with the early days when news revolved around just a few streets.

“Today, look around whether it is our roads, bridges, or institutions, you will see progress everywhere. Take for instance the iconic Bridge that connects the Ughelli–Asaba Highway, or the tertiary institutions that now dot the state.

“Back in 1991, we only had a campus of Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University). Today, Delta has multiple universities, and our undergraduates are thriving, getting easier access to education and entering the labor market better prepared,” he said.

He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for steering the state with clarity of vision, anchored on the M.O.R.E Agenda, stressing that Delta stands firm and solid among the comity of states in Nigeria.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Izeze paid glowing tribute to past leaders and heroes of the state, including the late first executive governor, Olorogun Felix Ibru, and other eminent Deltans who contributed to its creation.

“They are our heroes past, and we pray for the repose of their souls. We also remember statesmen like Papa Edwin Clark and others who stood for the cause of Delta,” he said.

Looking ahead, Izeze reaffirmed the commitment of government and people alike to building an egalitarian society where every Deltan will have a sense of belonging.

“For our children and generations unborn, we remain committed to creating an equal and just society, a Delta that belongs to all of us. We will stay true to this cause, no matter whose ox is gored. Congratulations, Deltans, and may God bless us all,” he concluded.

Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday, inaugurated 30 units of one-bedroom flats for officers and soldiers of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, with a pledge to continue supporting the welfare of security personnel in the state.

The Governor, who was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, said the housing project was not just about new buildings but a reaffirmation of government’s commitment to the welfare of its soldiers and the security architecture that guarantees peace and development.

Oborevwori commended the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, for his contributions in attracting the barracks to Delta, and lauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its renewed commitment to tackling security challenges nationwide.

He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army, particularly the 63 Brigade and the 181 Amphibious Battalion, for their sacrifices in combating oil theft, criminality and other threats to peace in the state and the region.

“The 30 units of one-bedroom flats we are commissioning today symbolize our determination to improve the living conditions of the men and women who daily put their lives on the line for our safety.

“Decent accommodation for our soldiers is not only about welfare; it is about boosting morale and enabling them to discharge their duties with even greater dedication,” the governor said.

Oborevwori noted that the project was in line with the Meaningful Development and Enhanced Peace and Security pillars of his administration’s MORE Agenda, stressing that development and security must go hand in hand.

Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, explained that the project for which contract was awarded in March 2023, comprised 30 one-bedroom flats for officers and soldiers of the 181 Battalion.

He lauded Governor Oborevwori for completing the project, describing it as a bold step in supporting the Army and strengthening security in the state.
