2027: Delta PDP rakes in defectors from APC(Photos)

Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saturday, welcomed over 2,000 defectors from the All Progressives Congress, APC and other opposition political parties in the state.

The former opposition members known as Delta Political Actualisation Network (DPAN) in Ughelli urban led by Fejiro Ishaka as well as Alex Idu and his supporters from Orogun were received during the inauguration of Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency Forum held at Oharisi Primary School, Ughelli.

Welcoming the defectors, State Chairman of the party, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, said the party was prepared to take back the Federal Constituency in 2027.

While urging the defectors to work for the party’s victory, Arenyeka commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the massive construction works across the state.

Leader of the defectors, Comrade Fejiro Ishaka, said their joining the ruling party was divinely orchestrated by God, adding that they were impressed with the massive infrastructural and human capital development by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori across the state.

He said his team also decided to leave the All Progressives Congress because they lacked leadership and direction.

Ishaka said: “In 2019 we fought gallantly with our then candidate, Chief Great Ogboru to no avail, we also repeated same in 2023 with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege but still lost to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“So in 2027, we won’t be deceived again because we have seen the light and we will ensure victory for all candidates of the PDP in the Federal Constituency.

“The APC lacks direction and focus to win election in Delta State, they are busy dragging leadership and pulling down one another but here in PDP I can see a united party ready to re-enact it’s winning streak.”

On his part, Alex Idu who joined the APC in the twilight of the 2023 General elections, said he regretted leaving the PDP and encouraged party faithful to remain loyal and united to deliver Governor Oborevwori come 2027.

“I have gone and seen that there is nothing in APC. I can tell you categorically that it was a big mistake I made to have left PDP in 2023.

“I can assure you all that as we have returned back to our roots, the PDP in Orogun we would no longer have any threat of victory come 2027.”

In his remarks, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, urged the decampees to work hard for the party’s victory in subsequent elections assuring that there was equal opportunities for every member of the party.

Onyeme maintained that the decampees have equal rights with old members of the PDP and told them to join hands with other members of the party to win the Ughelli Federal Constituency for the PDP in 2027.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, who also spoke in the same vein, told the defectors to preach the gospel of the PDP.

In a vote of thanks, former Secretary to the State Government, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, congratulated members of the Forum on their successful inauguration assuring that the party would come out victorious in 2027.

…as Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Fed Constituency passes confidence vote in Oborevwori

Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has said that zoning of political offices, particularly the Office of the Governor, had long played a crucial role in shaping political power dynamics in the state.

Onyeme said as the 2027 elections approach, zoning remained a vital factor in Delta’s political stability and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s continued dominance in the state.

He disclosed this at the inauguration of Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency Forum held at Oharisi Primary School, Ughelli, on Saturday.

The Deputy Governor, emphasized that the zoning system reinforces PDP’s stronghold by ensuring a balanced and equitable distribution of political offices among the state’s diverse ethnic groups.

He said: “Delta is a very peaceful state and since 1999 we were the first to embrace governorship rotation and it has been working very well for us.

“All previous Governors did eight years and this time around, it will not be different because Governor Oborevwori dey work and Deltans dey see am.

“Governor Oborevwori is working with Julius Berger and other reputable construction companies to develop the state and I can assure you that more projects will be executed across the state.”

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, in his remarks at the event, said, “what we have done today is to show that the Federal Constituency stands united to return Governor Oborevwori to Government House in 2027.

“We are all united and I can assure you that PDP will win the entire eight local government areas in Delta Central,” adding that Governor Oborevwori would “win again with the massive support of Deltans.”

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the PDP, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, said the party was prepared to take back the Federal Constituency in 2027 and commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the massive construction works across the state.

In their goodwill messages, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Prince Johnson Erijo, and the Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, congratulated the people of Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency on coming together to ensure victory for the PDP in 2027.

They said Governor Oborevwori had done well in the development of the state, adding that the people of Delta South and all other parts of the state remained irrevocably committed to his re-election in 2027.

In his welcome remarks, Chairman of the Organising Committee and Chairman Ughelli North Local Government, Chief Jaro Egbo, said the formation of the forum marked a significant milestone to enhance participatory democracy, good governance and sustainable development within the Federal Constituency.

While urging members of the party to embrace the spirit of unity, collaboration and service to the people, he pleaded, “let us work together, irrespective of party affiliations, to build a constituency that stands as a model of progressive governance and inclusive leadership in Delta State and beyond.”

He said the Governor and his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, had worked quite hard, insisting that there was no vacancy in Government House, Asaba till 2031.

The high point of the ceremony was the passing of a vote of absolute confidence in Governor Oborevwori as moved by Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads) Comrade Reuben Izeze, seconded by Chairman Ughelli North Local Government, Olorogun Jaro Egbo and unanimously adopted by the people.

Putting the records straight: APCD strongly defends Otuaro over false allegations(Photos)

A group under the banner of Advocacy for Peace and Community Development (APCD), has strongly defended Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.

APCD in a press briefing on Friday in Warri, Delta State gave valid reasons why allegations leveled against the administrator bordering on misappropriation of funds non-inclusiveness and selective administration should be thrown into archival dustbin.

“As a responsible group committed to truth, justice and the progress of our nation, we find it necessary to set the records straight.

*In Defence of Dr. Dennis Otuaro*

“Dr. Dennis Otuaro, in his role as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, has demonstrated consistent commitment to the mandate of reintegrating ex-agitators and promoting sustainable peace in the Niger Delta region.

“We however taken aback with the recent accusations by certain groups, including ex-agitators, alleged misappropriation of funds, non-inclusiveness and selective administration.

“As these claims are not only baseless, untrue and malicious, but also appear to be calculated attempts to tarnish the hard earned reputation of Dr Otuaro and derail the ongoing efforts to consolidate peace in the region.

“It is crucial to understand that Dr. Otuaro’s administration has prioritized transparency, accountability and inclusiveness, ensuring that the benefits of the Amnesty Programme reach the intended beneficiaries.

“The PAP has provided vocational training, educational scholarships and economic empowerment initiatives to thousands of ex-agitators and their dependents, all of which have helped to promote stability and progress in the Niger Delta.

“Furthermore, the allegations of misappropriation are speculative and not grounded in verified evidence. We urge those making these accusations to present concrete proof rather than relying on false narratives to mislead the public. Dr. Otuaro remains committed to his duty and will continue to work for the sustainable peace and development of the Niger Delta.

*Addressing Allegations Against Tantita Security Nigeria Limited*

“Similarly, allegations against Tantita Security Nigeria Limited — a key partner in securing Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure — are equally misleading.

“Tantita has played a pivotal role in curbing oil theft, protecting national assets, and boosting government revenue. The claim that Tantita receives ₦40 billion monthly for its pipeline surveillance operations is false. The actual contract awarded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in August 2022 can be verified by all at NNPCL website.

“It is an established truth that Tantita Security Services is over stretched, as they carry out both land and coastal security, even beyond the official mandate and scope of work.

“Reports of human rights violations attributed to Tantita are unverified and have been discredited by various independent fact-finding committees. These allegations are often propagated by those who stand to lose from the progress made in combating oil theft.

    *Exposing the Agenda of Detractors*

“It is evident that certain individuals and groups who previously exploited Nigeria’s resources for personal gain are uncomfortable with the impactful measures implemented by Dr. Dennis Otuaro’s leadership of the Amnesty Programme and the collaborative efforts of Tantita in securing national assets.

“Their tactics—using false accusations and orchestrated protests—are meant to create confusion, disrupt stability, and undermine credible efforts toward development.

    *Conclusion*

“The Advocacy for Peace and Community Development (APCD) unequivocally stands with Dr. Dennis Otuaro and Tantita Security Nigeria Limited.

“We urge well-meaning Nigerians to see through these deceptive tactics and support genuine efforts to protect our national interests. Nigeria’s progress in securing its oil resources and maintaining peace in the Niger Delta should not be compromised by baseless accusations and selfish agenda.

“Finally, we use this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Dennis Otuaro on his one year in office and wish him more result oriented years ahead.

    Thank you.

  • Delta among 4th largest economy in Nigeria – SSG

Delta among 4th largest economy in Nigeria – SSG

Delta State has emerged as one of the top four largest economies in Nigeria, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, has said.

Dr. Emu, stated this in his keynote speech at the 2025 Public Lecture and Awards Ceremony of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) Delta State Chapter held in Asaba on Thursday.

He said the theme: The Role of Professionals in the Successful Implementation of the Delta State Government MORE Agenda was apt and highlighted the state’s impressive growth trajectory, attributing it to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s strategic governance, infrastructural investments, and a thriving private sector.

Dr. Emu emphasized that Delta’s economic rise was a result of deliberate policies aimed at boosting agriculture, industrialization, and human capital development.

He said through prudent management of resources, investor-friendly policies, and a focus on key sectors like oil and gas, manufacturing, and technology, Delta has solidified its place as a major economic hub in Nigeria.

He also pointed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration as a key driver of this success, citing initiatives such as the expansion of road networks, increased support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the development of industrial parks across the state.
Dr Emu added that the state’s strong contributions to the oil and gas sector, along with growing diversification efforts, have been critical in achieving this status.

“Whether you denominate in naira or dollar Delta is the 4th largest economy in Nigeria and the highest oil producer in the country today.

“Oil revenue today accounts for only 48.7 percent of our GDP, Services and all others account for 51.25 percent.

“This tells you that even though oil and gas is our main revenue earner, services and others account for money.

“It means that as an economy, we are diversifying even though oil accounts for the highest revenue, it does not account in terms of provision of jobs for our people.

“Agriculture sector has grown year-on-year at 13.3 percent for over six years now while services and manufacturing have also grown significantly.

“We have diversified and created huge jobs for our people totalling over 257,000 jobs and that is very significant.”

He said with this new ranking, Delta State is poised to attract more local and international investments, solidifying its role as a leading economic powerhouse in Nigeria.

He said the Oborevwori administration has constructed over 500 roads with over 1500km and 933km of line drainages with massive contributions to job creation and poverty eradication.

“In 2020 we were rated the second least poor state in Nigeria only second to Lagos State, in 2022, the multi dimensional poverty rating indices shows National average at 63 percent. Delta is 47 percent placing 9th in the country.

“There are some jobs advertised in the country with some states applying more than Delta State and for me its another measure of poverty.

“It indicates that the people here have other choices, they have an option because if there were no options they would have taken those jobs.

“We have over 254,747 empowerments through multiple job creation channels. For every road construction, there is provision for jobs so the more we construct roads across the state, the more jobs we create.

“Physical and social infrastructure fertilises development so we will continue to construct more roads and other physical infrastructure across the state.”

On why government is spending huge amounts on road infrastructure, Dr. Emu, said there is a huge infrastructure deficit running into trillions of dollars in Nigeria.

He said South Africa recently provided $54billion dollars for road infrastructure adding that the problem is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

“Physical infrastructure fertilises development, it inter links local areas to the urban centres and reduces rural-urban migration and gives room for expansion of businesses in all the hinterlands.

“Hence Government is spending huge amounts in building Trans Warri-Ode Itsekiri road and bridges, the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway among others.”

He said as professionals they have major roles to play in the development of the state and urged them to provide useful advise to government on how to develop the state.

In his welcome remarks, Chairman APBN, Delta State Chapter, Surv. Victor Ezie, acknowledged the good works of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori especially on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, emphasising that the impact of his governance was resonating through out the length and breath of the State.

He congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his emergence as Governor of the year by THISDAY/ARISE News and urged the Governor to keep the flag flying even as he expects diversification of the state’s economy beyond oil dependence.

He called for more investments in non-oil sectors such as Agriculture, Technology, Industries, Commerce, Electricity, Transportation, mass housing, tourism among others to ensure sustainable growth.

FMC Ovwian set to take off soon as FG team inspects proposed site

A team from the Federal Ministry of Health has inspected the proposed permanent site for the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Ovwian, as well as the temporary take-off site at General Hospital, Otor-Udu, assuring Deltans of a swift commencement of operations.

During the inspection at the site, located opposite the DSC administrative building in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, the team leader from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Jimoh Salaudeen, mni, Director of Hospital Services, congratulated the Udu community leaders and Hon. Francis Waive for their efforts in facilitating the establishment of FMC Ovwian through legislative backing.

He stated, “Today, we are here on the directive of President Bola Tinubu, who has given a marching order to ensure the establishment of the Federal Medical Center, Ovwian. I was directed by my principal to lead this ministerial team to inspect the proposed site.”

“Our mission in Delta State is to meet with the Governor and assess the proposed federal medical center site. The state government is expected to provide a temporary facility to enable immediate operations while the permanent site is developed. Similar FMCs in Kafanchan, Epe, and other locations have already commenced, and we want the same for Ovwian. We expect activities to begin at FMC Ovwian within three to six months.”

“We are also inspecting the temporary structure provided by the state government to ensure it meets the required standard. Once a Medical Director is appointed and personnel support from the state government is secured, operations will begin. Subsequently, there will be an advertisement for employment opportunities.”

Dr. Salaudeen commended the community for providing land for the project and urged them to safeguard the hospital’s infrastructure. He also assured that local contractors would be engaged in accordance with the Local Content Act.

The President-General of Ovwian Community, Comrade Joseph Dele Okuku, speaking on behalf of the Udu Kingdom, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the bill establishing FMC Ovwian into law. He also acknowledged Hon. Francis Waive’s vision and efforts in originating the bill.

He further called for patronage of local contractors, employment of skilled and unskilled labor from the host community, and other benefits that would ensure community participation in the project.

Hon. Francis Waive, the Member representing Udu/Ughelli Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, described the establishment of FMC Ovwian as a major milestone in healthcare delivery for Delta Central and Delta South.

“I must thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for signing into law the Federal Medical Center Establishment Bill. This is a significant milestone that will improve healthcare delivery in our region,” he said.

“Work will commence soon, with the Udu General Hospital serving as a temporary take-off site. The state government has already granted us the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the construction of essential facilities. We also anticipate strong support from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the federal government. With these collaborations in place, we are confident of rapid progress.”

“I intend to leverage my office to attract investments from companies in the region to support this project. This will be the first federal healthcare institution in this part of the state, strategically positioned between Delta South and Delta Central. Previously, residents had to travel up to three hours to Asaba to access federal medical services. With this new FMC, healthcare will be brought closer to the people.”

Hon. Waive emphasized that the hospital would not only save lives but also stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and encourage educational advancements, especially in medical fields.

“The population in Ovwian, covering Udu Bridge, Uvwie, Warri South, and beyond, is significant. The riverine areas also link Warri South-West and Burutu, making this one of the most densely populated regions in Delta State. Due to the lack of a medical facility of this caliber, many lives have been lost. But now, FMC Ovwian will provide top-tier healthcare services locally.”

He urged the Udu people to ensure a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the construction and eventual operation of the facility.

On his developmental strides, Hon. Waive highlighted various projects he had initiated, including:

“A complete renovation of the larger grammar school near the FMC site, with a new perimeter fence and staff quarters. Upgrades to the primary school in the area. Classroom projects across all three local government areas in his constituency. Installation of electricity transformers, classroom blocks, reconnection to the national grid, and solar-powered streetlights in all 32 wards of his constituency.

“Since Nigeria’s return to democracy, my contributions to infrastructure surpass those of all my predecessors combined. Beyond physical projects, I have sponsored over 50 bills, including the Federal Medical Center Bill, now signed into law. For a legislator to achieve this is no small feat. This is a legacy that will stand the test of time.”

Udu Local Government Council Chairman, Chief Vincent Oyibode, also expressed joy at attracting a federal medical facility to Udu Kingdom.

“This hospital will serve both Delta Central and Delta South, bringing rapid development to the area. It will also inspire Udu indigenes and others to pursue careers in medicine and healthcare.”

He praised Hon. Francis Waive for originating the bill and thanked the Governor of Delta State for his support in making FMC Ovwian a reality.

Earlier, the federal medical team was received by Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, alongside key state health officials, including Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Philo Okewho, and State Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Paul Okubo.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare team for the inspection included:

Mr. Paul Daluba – Deputy Director, HRM, Dr. Olakunle Daramola – Technical Assistant to the Minister

Mr. Murtala Muazu – Representative of the Office of the Permanent Secretary

Dr. Raymond Ekhator – Coordinating Unit, DHS Office

Ms. Tina Ugiagbe – FMC Division

Dr. Adedeji Adesope – Team Secretary Dr. Victor Osiatuma Azubike – Chief Medical Director, FMC Asaba. With all stakeholders aligned and necessary approvals in place, the people of Udu Kingdom and beyond eagerly await the launch of FMC Ovwian, which promises to be a game-changer for healthcare in the region.

  • Opposition in Delta, alliance of ‘strange bedfellows’ – Aniagwu

Opposition in Delta, alliance of ‘strange bedfellows’ – Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, weekend, described the opposition in the state as an alliance of “strange bedfellows”.

Speaking on Arise Television “This Week”, Aniagwu said the opposition alliances were formed not out of shared values but for political convenience, leading to incoherent policy positions and egoistic dispositions.

Aniagwu also criticized the opposition for being out of touch with the realities in Delta State, highlighting that their narratives demonstrate a lack of engagement with the state’s current developments.

He further noted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s impressive record in infrastructural and human capital development has unsettled the opposition, suggesting that the administration’s achievements are a more effective response to political critiques than engaging in early political debates.

Aniagwu views the opposition’s coalition as a strategic but ideologically inconsistent alliance, contrasting it with the current administration’s focus on tangible developmental projects in Delta State.

He said Governor Oborevwori was redefining governance in Delta by ensuring fulfilment of promises made to the people during the electioneering campaigns.

“As appreciative people, Deltans are watching with keen interests the development trajectory of Governor Oborevwori and would repay his faithfulness by re-electing him again come 2027.

“Oborevwori’s preoccupation right now is to ensure that while development is taking place we have peace and security.

“We are happy that we have a governor that is taking us to higher grounds and i am privileged to be put into two portfolios but what is making those two portfolios quite easy for me is the fact that my governor is doing the bulk of the work.

“As Commissioner for public Information, i have things to talk about that i can refer to that i can challenge even anybody whether they are in any political party or not.

“Governor Oborevwori is an apostle of development and that development is what the man want to continue to do and for those of us who are part of his administration, we are quite pleased that we belong to a government that is doing what government is supposed to do.

“Particularly as well spelt out in section 14 subsection 2 paragraph b of the 1999 constitution which makes the welfare and the security of the people the primary purpose of government.

“So when you come to Delta and individuals want to navigate towards the direction of ignorance, our business is to show them what it is so that they do not navigate towards the corridor of ignorance.”

On Delta’s Internally generated revenue, IGR, Aniagwu said Governor Oborevwori raised the state’s IGR from N75billion to N150billion in less than two years.

“Our growth in internally generated revenue is in geometric progression not arithmetic progression, so if a man who has been able to do that in less than two years, and they are saying he is not growing the IGR, perhaps they need to redefine what growth meant.

“Now, you mentioned some persons and claimed that they are very, very powerful. I am happy that you followed through our politics in 2023.

“Oborevwori won 21 out of the 25 local government areas, while the opposition won in 4 local government areas. Although we did not want to challenge the processes that led to his win in 4 local government areas in what looks like a pyrrhic victory for Omo-Agege, the former Deputy President of the Senate.

“By the time the next election comes, don’t take my word for it. You are very free to visit their towns. Oborevwori will not only win in 21, he will move beyond 21.

“You know the reason why? Deltans are very appreciative. Once you do one thing that makes them understand that government is working, like they told us when we got to Warri and many other places where we visited, you will understand that they will show that appreciation when the time comes.”

On support for President Tinubu, Aniagwu said the time for politics was over after elections adding that the Oborevwori administration believed that it was time for governance.

“You talked about these individuals saying that they are going to support the president. Does it look like we are fighting the president?

“My governor believes that the time for politics has passed after the elections and that the time for politics again has not also come.

“My governor has asked everybody that it’s for those who support me, for me to be able to deliver good governance, we also need good governance at the center.

“And that means supporting the president will not also be out of place, because it is believed that we do not go into a rotten mouth and begin to look for a healthy teeth in it.

“In this case, if the Nigerian Federation is functioning properly, the sub-nationals will also benefit from such functionality and so, if there is anybody who believes that Tinubu needs to succeed, it’s Governor Oborevwori.

“At the moment, Tinubu is our president and my governor believes that if we are also able to support Tinubu for the purpose of ensuring that Nigeria runs smoothly, that even Delta will also benefit from the good policies and implementation to be carried out by Tinubu.

“So when you hear, if you are supporting me, also support the president. My brother, he’s not playing politics, Oborevwori is matching promises with action by fulfilling his campaign promises.”

A member of the World Council of Urhobo Professors, Prof. Sunny Ahwefeada, has said we have found it confusing that after one year, those responsible for killing 17 army personnel in Okuama in Delta State are yet to be apprehended by the security operatives.

Ahwefeada, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, said that identifying those behind the heinous crime and bringing them to book will go a long way in bringing closure to the case.

“We are all confused that one year after, the intelligence community has not been able to make any headway in identifying the real perpetrators of this and bringing them to book, it is quite unfortunate,” Ahwefeada said.

“And I should put it on record here that identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to book is a step towards closure. So, we are waiting and hopeful that someday the intelligence community will be able to do the needful so that we can actually know those behind that heinous crime.”

The 17 personnel — the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion, two majors, one captain, and 12 personnel of the battalion — were later buried at the Military Cemetary in Abuja.

    Detention of Okuama Leaders
Speaking further on the programme, the Urhobo leader lamented that the Okuama community leaders arrested in the aftermath of the incident are still languishing in detention after months of arrest.

He regretted the death of one of the community leaders in military detention and appealed for the release of the remaining detainees.

“These people that were arrested, even if they are considered suspects, should be handed over to the police and be charged to court. So, as far as we are concerned, in as much as they have not been convicted, they are still innocent, and we feel that they have been held for too long.

“They were arrested between 18th and 20th of August, this is March, this is more than half a year since they were incarcerated, and as I said earlier, one of them, an 80-year-old man died in military detention. So, we are thinking that these people should be released,” he said.

Ahwefeada acknowledged that there were some interventions by the government including setting up of IDP camps. He also recalled that the military set up an investigative panel but said that the military can’t be a judge in its own case.

He appealed to the government to set up an independent commission of inquiry, saying that this will help in bringing closure to the matter.

Oborevwori’s sterling performance, major reply to critics – Aniagwu

Delta State Government, Thursday, said the giant strides of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration was a major reply to critics and opposition in the state.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this while speaking on AIT’s “Democracy Today” monitored in Asaba.

He said that Governor Oborevwori was concentrating on delivering on his four-point agenda and would not be distracted by those seeking to play politics with developments in the state.

He said, “Governor Oborevwori is concentrating on governance and the people of Delta are seeing it and little wonder they were clear that Oborevwori dey show workings, nor be chor, chor, chor.

“So if there are individuals who think that governance is about talking here and talking there and raising issues, Oborevwori says come and see what we are doing.

“Now we have challenged anybody, irrespective of the local government, we are no longer talking about come and let us show you what we are doing in Delta.

“We are pinning down to local governments and the way we are proceeding, in the not too distant time, we are going to pin it down to political wards, in which case we bring it closer to the people.

“There is no local government, mention it, of the 25 local government areas, we will tell you what Oborevwori is doing.

“In the education sector, in the housing sector, in the road infrastructure sector and in the health sector, there is something that is being done across the 25 local government areas.

“And so, when those who want to begin to play politics are playing politics, Oborevwori says, I have not even exhausted the mandate given to me to add value to Delta, let alone getting involved in political talks.

“So his performance is the major reply and so we are not disturbed by those who may have decided to pitch tents with different political groups, but let me also tell you that a number of persons have also come to pitch tent with Oborevwori because they are quite happy about the development in Delta.

“Any time, any day, we can take on anybody by showing them what Oborevwori is doing. So that when they tow the part of chor-chor-chor, we tow the part of showing them what we have been doing.”

The Commissioner further said Governor Oborevwori was uniting ethnic groups in the state with massive development and life-changing empowerment.

“We have agreed to continue to live and cohabit as brothers and sisters. Just recently the Governor resolved the age-long crisis between Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh communities.

“That was an area where we had an intractable crisis for a very long time. The same way he also did with respect to some of the challenges around Ogwashi-Uku, where they had some issues in terms of both kingship, the Okwabane’s, as well as challenges between them and their neighbouring communities.

“The governor moved swiftly to set up a commission of inquiry that has been able to examine the issues and since that time there have been some element of calmness even before pronouncement or the issuance of the white paper.

“So all these things come together to promote the harmonious coexistence which by the way is the fourth plank of the governor’s four-point agenda.

“Governor Oborevwori is running an agenda that is anchored on meaningful development, opportunities for all as well as realistic reforms and not forgetting his desire to also enhance peace and security.

“So he is using all aspects of the agenda to be able to drive this harmonious coexistence that has characterized our different communities.”

On security in the state, Aniagwu said, “We are quite mindful of the fact that there are pockets of insecurity by way of kidnapping which of course has become prevalent across the 36 states of the federation.

“But we are also doing something about it. Not long ago, Governor Oborevwori made available as much as 30 brand-new Hilux vehicles and it was the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun that came around to inaugurate those vehicles.

“But that’s not all, we have, before that time, given up to about another 30. So it means not fewer than 60 vehicles extended to security operatives, all with the view to enhancing their mobility.

“We are also doing that in addition to enhancing their ability to gather intelligence by improving their ability to communicate with their colleagues and indeed reduce also some form of anti-agency rivalry.

“So in general, in Delta, Governor Oborevwori is leading us quite profoundly and we are happy with how he has been able to manage our resources such that we are making appreciable progress across the state.”

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has frowned at the attitude of some civil servants in the state who engage in age falsification with the dubious intent to prolong their years of service. He warned those involved to desist from such dubious act or face severe sanctions.

Governor Oborevwori handed down the warning on Tuesday evening at a dinner organised by the state government for the College of Permanent Secretaries led by the State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko; Heads of Extra Ministerial Departments; Directors and Deputy Directors in the state civil service which was held at the Event Centre, Asaba.

The Governor said any civil servant who had attained the age of retirement should retire from the service so as to create opportunity for younger ones to be employed, adding that civil servants should always enter their real age in their documentations.

He expressed appreciation to workers in the state for the love they had shown to his administration, pointing out that they should continue to support its policies and programmes for the overall growth and development of the state.

“If you know you have attained retirement age, please, retire so that the younger ones could be employed into the civil service.

“You should use your real age so that people can grow in the system. When you are old, please allow the young ones to take over.

“I thank you for the love you people have shown to this administration. Let us continue to work together for the growth and development of the state,” the Governor added.

Continuing, he said: “Today’s dinner is in fulfilment of the promise l made during our meeting of January 29, this year. We have come to interact and share experiences.

“I think it is important l update you on some of the matters arising from our last meeting where a lot of issues were raised. First is the issue of poor telephone network in the Prof. Chike Edozien State Secretariat Complex among others,” he said.

As part of deliberate effort to mitigate the issue of poor telephone network at the new state secretariat, the Governor said he had directed the Commissioner for Science and Technology and his Special Duties counterpart to ensure that the issue was nipped in the bud before the end of March, 2025.

“We are looking at the suggestions that you people made during our meeting of January 29, this year, with a view to seeing how we can implement some of the suggestions that are useful to the effective running of the state civil service,” he said.

While saying that the state had a workforce of over 60,000 with a monthly wage bill of over N16 billion monthly, the Governor appealed to Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Extra Ministerial Departments, Directors and Deputy Directors to continue to discharge their duties diligently and professionally.

Governor Oborevwori, said; “we will follow due process in appointing a new Head of Service when the time comes, and, in due course, more Permanent Secretaries will be appointed,” stressing that the appointment of Permanent Secretaries was by merit and vacancy.

The Governor, who disclosed that the state government was not owing any of its contractors, said, “recently, we did 40 per cent mobilisation to our contractors. The problem we are having is not the multinationals; it is our local contractors.

“The local contractors cannot shortchange the state, if the site supervising engineers are doing their work. If the site supervising engineers are doing their work well, there will be no point for me to go to site for project supervision.

“I am going to go round the 25 local government areas to inspect various projects being executed by the state government. If you are praying that l should not come, you are deceiving yourself. Any contractor who is doing a bad work will refund the money paid to him.”

While reiterating that his administration had not borrowed since it came on board, he said a lot had been achieved in the socio-economic growth and development of the state.

Speaking at the gathering tagged “An Evening With The Governor,” the State Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Reginald Bayoko, said the forum was an open show by the governor that the state workforce was a reliable and valuable partners in progress.

Mr. Bayoko thanked Governor Oborevwori for his workers’- friendly policies and programmes since he came into office, and assured him of the total support of workers in advancing his MORE Agenda for Deltans and residents of the state.

The Head of Service advocated that the full weight of the law should be enforced on erring public servants deeply rooted in age cheat and indiscipline.

The evening featured entertainment through music, comedy and cultural dance by the Delta Cultural troupe.
