Oborevwori administration fair to all Deltans – Aniagwu

..says Govt Projects Are Visible In Isoko, Other Parts Of Delta

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains committed to fairness, equity, and balanced development across the state.

Speaking at a press conference in Asaba, Aniagwu said the MORE Agenda is being implemented in a manner that impacts every part of Delta State, ensuring that all 25 local government areas, the 10 federal constituencies, and the three senatorial districts benefit from government projects.

Aniagwu stated that in the last two years, Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated fairness across all divides in the state, and while citizens have the right to make demands, such demands should acknowledge the progress already made rather than suggest nothing is being done.

Flanked by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Polices, Mr Olisa Ifeajika and Executive Assistant on Media, Norbert Chiazor, he stressed that the administration promised more and it’s delivering more.

Reacting to recent criticisms from a section of the Isoko Nation, Aniagwu said such remarks were either politically motivated or made by individuals unaware of the level of development in their communities.

He noted that there is hardly any meeting of the State Executive Council where projects are not approved for Isoko, citing the recent approval of the Ogodogo–Ivu Access Road in Okpolo-Enhwe, Isoko South Local Government Area, at a cost of ₦5.1 billion, a strategic route leading to major oil facilities.

He listed several other road projects completed or ongoing in the area, including Otekpo Road in Elu, internal roads in Isoko South, the Uzere–Asaba-Ase Bridge, the Isoko Ring Road linking multiple communities, Emede internal roads, the Enuru–Ikuli Access Road, the Uruaka Express Link Road in Emede, the Olomoro–Igbide Road, the Emevor–Orogun Road Phase 1 and ongoing Phase 2, as well as Okpolo-Enhwe Internal Roads Phases 1 and 2.

He also mentioned portions of the reconstructed Ughelli–Asaba Expressway that pass through Isoko.

Aniagwu further explained that Isoko remains the only federal constituency in Delta hosting two state-owned universities, the Southern Delta University, Ozoro, and the Oleh Campus of Delta State University, which houses the faculties of Law and Engineering.

Under Governor Oborevwori, the state has completed the College of Medical Sciences at Southern Delta University, completed the Senate Building and internal roads at the Ozoro campus, established the College of Health Technology in Ovrode, and equipped the General Hospital in Ozoro.

He added that within just one year of assuming office, the Governor had visited Isoko two times to inaugurate projects, underscoring his commitment to the area.

The Commissioner appealed to critics to avoid what he described as “dirty politics” as the 2027 election season approaches, warning against attempts to discredit the government for political gain.

He assured that the administration would not be distracted from its developmental agenda and would continue to carry every part of the state along.

Aniagwu urged residents of Isoko to rejoice when projects are executed elsewhere, just as others rejoice when Isoko benefits, emphasising that the Oborevwori administration will remain fair to all.

He maintained that no local government area is without the footprint of the present administration across key sectors.

On the looming flood threat predicted across the country, Aniagwu disclosed that the state government is already desilting drainages and water channels to mitigate the impact.

He appealed to residents to stop dumping refuse into drains and advised those living in flood-prone areas to relocate upland before the floods arrive.

Iduh Amadhe urges Isoko Nation to place trust in Oborevwori

The Grand Patron of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), High Chief Iduh Amadhe, has called on the people of Isoko Nation in Delta State to place unwavering trust in Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, assuring that the Governor will not neglect their interests as an integral part of the state.

Speaking to journalists in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area, Chief Amadhe reacted to concerns over the exclusion of Isoko Nation from the N230 billion worth of projects recently approved by the State Executive Council (EXCO).

“There is no doubt that Governor Oborevwori’s administration means well for the Isoko people. The MORE Agenda cannot be implemented to its logical conclusion without the Isoko Nation receiving its fair share,” he said.

He explained that the recent approval was not an annual budget but a single EXCO decision, adding that many more such meetings would be held during the Governor’s tenure.

“If Isoko was not accommodated in this round, it can be in the next,” he noted.

Chief Amadhe appealed to aggrieved persons, including those who have gone to court, to sheath their swords and allow the cultural and political leadership to resolve issues through dialogue and lobbying.

“We must never put the cart before the horse. Where we are going is far better than where we are coming from,” he stated.

He emphasised the importance of unity, focus, and speaking with one voice, recalling a similar incident during former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s tenure when an alleged 1% allocation to Isoko sparked disquiet but was resolved amicably after proper consultations and clarifications.

According to him, there are clear signs that Governor Oborevwori has not neglected the Isoko people in his first two years in office.

“As an in-law to the Isoko Nation, the Governor will never work against the land of origin of the First Lady, his wife and our daughter,” he assured.

The IDU Grand Patron expressed confidence that future project approvals will duly accommodate Isoko Nation, stressing that as a leading oil and gas producing ethnic group, they cannot be undermined.

On the looming flood forecast, Chief Amadhe advised residents to be proactive by harvesting their crops early and preparing to relocate to higher grounds if necessary.

He urged the government to mobilise relevant agencies promptly to mitigate the impact of the perennial flooding.

    …assures Of Timely, Quality Completion

As part of efforts to revamp Delta State’s sports infrastructure and promote athletic and other sports, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Saturday inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the Warri Township Stadium.

Fielding questions from journalists during the inspection, Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and reaffirmed his commitment to quality and timely delivery of the project.

He expressed confidence in the contractors’ capacity to deliver a world-class facility that will serve the people of Warri and beyond, noting that the project was already boosting local economic activities, with over 176 youths employed on-site.

“We are confident that the contractor will deliver on time. A new indoor sports hall is under construction, and residents are already benefiting from the renovation. Once completed, Warri people will be proud, and visitors will enjoy a modern facility”, he said.

Oborevwori emphasized that the stadium, once completed, would not only serve as a hub for sports and entertainment but also symbolize the town’s growing sports reputation, especially with Warri Wolves Football Club qualifying for the Premier League.

The governor disclosed that although the initial plan was to build an entirely new stadium, the government opted for a comprehensive renovation of the existing structure due to limited available land in the area. He added that a hospitality suite is being considered as part of the modernization efforts.

Facilities under reconstruction include the steelwork at the main bowl, a FIFA-standard football pitch, underground drainage systems, and an Olympic-size swimming pool, among others.

Governor Oborevwori said his visit marked a significant milestone in ensuring that contractors remain accountable for delivering quality work within the scheduled timeline.

Also speaking, Engr. Olaruwaju Adeleke of Peculiar Concern Limited, the project contractor, assured that the stadium would be completed on time.

“We are three months into the project and have completed 100 percent of the steel fabrication and erection, except for a few open areas. Work is currently ongoing on the pitch,” Engr. Adeleke said.

He projected that by December, the running track and pitch grassing would be completed. However, he clarified that while the stadium may not be ready for the current Premier League season, it is expected to be fully operational by the next.

“The Premier League season will start very soon, so we may not use the stadium for this season. But we are optimistic that Warri Wolves will return to their home ground next season,” he added.

Gov Oborevwori charges corp members on ideals to embrace

Governor  Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged Corp members to embrace the ideals of patriotism, discipline, selflessness and service, both within the camp and during their primary assignments.

Oborevwori gave the charge at the Swearing-in/Opening ceremony of Batch B Stream I Corps members at the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) orientation camp Issele-Uku on Friday.

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Trakiriowei ThankGod said these virtues remain the bedrock of nation-building and your role as change agents cannot be overstated.

“Approach your assignments with diligence, empathy and a sense of purpose, seize the opportunity to leave a positive legacy in your host communities.

“I particularly urge you to participate in the Community Development Service (CDS) groups. Through these platforms, you can help raise awareness on critical social issues, promote good values and contribute to nation-building.

“Stand up against cultism, drug abuse, thuggery, cybercrime, prostitution, militia, kidnapping, terrorism and the get-rich-quick mentality. Live responsibly and show good example.

“Let your conduct throughout your service year reflect the highest standards of integrity, diligence and excellence as you begin this chapter,” he said.

The Governor said that for over five decades, the NYSC has remained a vital instrument in fostering national cohesion and contributing to the socio-economic advancement of our country.

“It has continued to attract the enthusiasm of Nigerian youths despite prevailing challenges, including insecurity and economic constraints is a testament to its enduring relevance and value.

“Your deployment to Delta State is not by accident. I urge you to embrace this opportunity with a positive spirit and an open mind.

“Consider yourselves, for this period, Deltans, partners in our ongoing efforts to build a safer, stronger and more prosperous State.

“The orientation course you are currently undergoing may be physically and mentally demanding but the discipline, skills and values it instils will serve you well throughout your life,” the governor said.

Oborevwori said that his administration acknowledge some of the challenges affecting the Scheme, such as corps members rejection and infrastructural gaps in orientation camps.

“Let me assure you that these issues are being addressed with seriousness and urgency. As a government, we deeply value the NYSC and we remain committed to your empowerment,” he said.

The governor urged the corp members to maximise the benefits of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and other initiatives such as NYSC ventures.

“These platforms are designed to equip you with practical skills and entrepreneurial know-how to ensure post-service self reliance and help reduce youth unemployment,” he said.

Mr John Kwange, State Coordinator for NYSC in his welcome address urged corps members to see their deployment as a golden opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the developmental programmes of the state.

“It is important to inform you that Delta State is known and called “The Big Heart” as a result of the state’s warmth and welcoming nature, symbolising the generosity and kindness of its people.

“Apart from its significant location as an oil-producing state, Delta is rich in cultural heritage. Therefore, Delta is home away from home for you all,” he said.

Kwange commended the State Governor for his continued support to the NYSC scheme.

“The ongoing internal road construction and the reticulation of water to various areas of the camp, are clear testament of the government’s effort at uplifting the standard of the orientation camp,” he said.

The state coordinator appealed to the state Government to help in the reconstruction of the perimeter fence of the camp.

“I am, however, constrained to inform Your Excellency that the unfortunate incident of the vandalisation of the entire electrical installations in the camp few days before commencement of this orientation course, has caused a serious setback.

“The breakdown of parts of the fence gave room to the unwholesome activities of some enemies of the Scheme and the state at large,” Kwange said.

Kwange said that a total of 1,374 prospective corps members; comprising 613 males and 761 females, have been registered and fully kitted.
