I knew Fury would expose Wilder – Joshua

Anthony Joshua has claimed he knew Tyson Fury could “expose” and “annihilate” Deontay Wilder.

All the world heavyweight titles are with British boxers, after Fury was crowned as the new WBC champion following a stoppage win over Wilder in February.

Joshua himself regained his WBA ‘super’, IBF and WBO belts with a point victory over Andy Ruiz Jr in December.

“I believed Tyson Fury could potentially do what he did,” Joshua told Sky Sports.

“I just felt like, Deontay Wilder is a formidable ex-champion and has a chance to come back, but I just knew that when he gets to the top level, it will be difficult, because it’s one thing getting there and it’s another thing staying there.

“We’ve seen in some of his fights, it’s been difficult for him and then he lands his punch and he’s been victorious, but I always believe that when you go to war, you can’t have one weapon in your arsenal, which was his right hand.

“Once that was taken away from him, which Tyson Fury did, I’m not going to go into tactics, but he was able to annihilate Deontay Wilder and expose him for some of his weaknesses.

“Tyson Fury did a great job tactically and I’m looking forward to their rematch.”

Fury, Wilder’s trilogy fight set for October

Tyson Fury’s promoter, Bob Arum, has confirmed that his client’s heavyweight trilogy fight against American boxer, Deontay Wilder, has been postponed until early October due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across the globe.

Fury had planned fighting Wilder again on July 18 after the boxers camp officially triggered a rematch clause.

The 31-year-old British fighter defeated Wilder in the 7th round at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, USA, in February to regain the WBC world heavyweight title.

Asked if Fury’s trilogy fight against Wilder would still take place on July 18 despite the outbreak of COVID-19 in the world, Arum told ESPN: “Clearly not.

“We do not even know if the MGM will also be open by then.

“We could not convince them or ourselves. Where were they going to train for it? It just made no sense.

“You have to take a step back. How are you going to sell tickets? It is ridiculous to say the fight is on when the Brits can’t even get there.”

“Everybody has to take a step back. Boxing is not isolated. It is part of what’s happening in the world,” Arum added.

“So possibly the fight will be in early October.”

Tyson Fury’s father sends message to Wilder

Tyson Fury’s father, John Fury, has urged dethroned WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, not to seek a rematch with his son.

Fury knocked out Wilder in the 7th round at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, USA, last weekend to regain the WBC world heavyweight title.

Wilder has already announced his intention to trigger a rematch clause to face Fury.

But John wants Wilder to focus his attention to fight British boxer, Anthony Joshua next because he can never beat Tyson, and his son has proved that he is too good for him.

“I can’t blame Wilder [for his intention to trigger a rematch clause] because it is all about the money,” John Fury told IFL TV.

“But I do not know what wants to do against Tyson because Tyson is only getting better.

“He should forget Tyson because he is too good for him, and he has proved it.

“Wilder could not beat him when he lost ten stone, and he got up from his best shots.

“That was enough to tell him that the rematch should never happen.

“Therefore, I expect him to go after AJ [Anthony Joshua] next.

“Spread his wings because there are other boxers he can annihilate out there.”

Dethroned WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, has incredibly claimed the costume he wore for his ring walk, played a big part in his defeat to Tyson Fury on Sunday morning.

The American also confirmed he will be triggering his rematch clause.

Wilder wore a black and red armoured body suit with a matching mask and crown before the fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

He has now claimed his defeat was because of the 45-pound costume weakening his legs.

He told Yahoo: “He didn’t hurt me at all, but the simple fact is that my uniform was way too heavy for me.

“I didn’t have no legs from the beginning of the fight. In the third round, my legs were just shot all the way through.”

Wilder also confirmed that he will exercise his right for a third fight, which will happen in the summer.

“The rematch is definitely going to happen. We’re going to get it on. I want to get right back to it,” he told The Athletic.

BREAKING: Tyson Fury beats Wilder, wins WBC heavyweight championship

Tyson Fury has just defeated Deontay Wilder. Fury from England gave Wilder from America the beating of his life. To make matters worse, it was on American soil. The fight took place at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. The fight had to be stopped in round seven when Wilder was bleeding profusely from his left ear after he was cut in round three.

A fight that lasted till the 12th round last year did not make it past the seventh round this time around.

Fury was just too strong for Wilder from the start of the fight till it was stopped.

On two occasions, Wilder was knocked down by Fury. It was looking like an even contest until Wilder had an injury on his ear. He lost balance as a result.

With this victory, fury has made history as he is now the first fighter in boxing history to end two reigns of 10+ title defenses:

In 2015, Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko, who was attempting a 19th title defense and in 2020, Fury defeated Wilder, who was attempting an 11th title defense. This was Wilder’s 1st loss.

BREAKING: Tyson Fury knocks out Wilder to win WBC belt

Tyson Fury has knocked out American’s Deontay Wilder in the seventh round to win the WBC Heavyweight championship title belt.

With the victory, Britain’s Fury has thus become the world heavyweight champion for the second time.

Fury produced a brutal and brilliant masterclass to batter Deontay Wilder to a seventh-round stoppage. He floored the American twice in the fight before Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the Seventh round.

The Britons dominated the fight from round one to the end, with Wilder not in the contest all through the period.

Wilder has no answer to the superior fighting prowess of Fury and he was outclassed in every department.

Wilder was not like the ‘Bronze Bomber’ he claimed to be in this fight, but Fury was truly the Gypsy King.

The American was first floored by Fury in the third round and later in the fifth round.

I will knockout Fury to surpass Muhammad Ali – Wilder

Deontay Wilder vowed to surpass his “idol” Muhammad Ali by knocking out Tyson Fury to land another defence of the world heavyweight title.

The 34-year-old American looked focused on a chaotic Tuesday in Las Vegas, where Fury arrived on an open-top Ferrari for a grand welcome ceremony attended by hundreds of fans.

The Briton, 31, continued to promise a knockout in Saturday’s rematch, while his rival eyed moving beyond legend Ali’s mark of 10 consecutive defences of the heavyweight title.

“It will be an amazing feeling, my 11th consecutive defence,” said Wilder.

Speaking to the 5 Live Boxing with Costello & Bunce podcast, he added: “It was a basic plan for me to get into boxing, become a journeyman and make a few dollars for my daughter.

“I never thought about being heavyweight champion of the world and being tied with my idol Ali.

“Once I’ve beaten Fury with a devastating knockout, I will go on even further to break the record and do more amazing things.”

  • Joshua, Wilder in talks over heavyweight fight

Anthony Joshua has said a “curveball” offer, could tempt Deontay Wilder into a dream undisputed heavyweight championship fight.

Joshua, speaking to Sky Sports, also revealed he has held meetings to discuss how to set it up.

WBC champion Wilder will face Tyson Fury in a rematch on February 22, while Joshua will defend his newly-regained IBF, WBA and WBO titles against either Kubrat Pulev or Oleksandr Usyk, whose representatives he met for negotiations last week.

“We’ve had meetings. That same meeting with Usyk’s manager, afterwards we had another meeting to potentially put an offer in to solidify [a fight with Wilder] before they have even had their fight, and before I have my next fight.

“Everyone wants Wilder to win because [a fight with me] is what everyone wants to see. Wilder has a great right hand, I have a great left hand. It is a great boxing match.

“We had a meeting about that. It has great potential. I heard [Wilder and Fury] have a third fight lined up towards the end of the year but we have to throw a curveball in there.

“Something that gets Wilder’s attention providing he wins so that he thinks to himself: ‘Even though I have a rematch clause, I’ll see how I can manipulate my contract, get out of it, and fight for the undisputed championship’,” Joshua said.
