I feel lost, need to find my place again- Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen, popular American model and TV personality says she feels “lost” and “depressed” after being placed in what she termed the “cancel club” following allegations of online bullying.

The media personality had in June apologized for past tweets, including one in which she told Courtney Stodden, TV star, to take her own life.

Stodden had accepted the apology but said it could just be an attempt to limit the damage to Teigen’s reputation.

The mother-of-two, who is a wife to John Legend, US singer, however, spoke of the allegations against her in a recent Instagram post.

“I don’t really know what to say, just feels so weird to pretend nothing happened in this online world,” she wrote on Wednesday.

“But feel like utter shit in real life. Going outside sucks and doesn’t feel right, being at home alone with my mind makes my depressed head race. But I do know that however, I’m handling this now isn’t the right answer.

“I feel lost and need to find my place again. I need to snap out of this, I desperately wanna communicate with you guys instead of pretending everything is okay. I’m not used to any other way! Cancel club is a fascinating thing.”

It was gathered that the model was dropped by some brands who sponsored her after the old tweets reappeared on social media.

In the post, Teigen added that grappling with depression since the allegation has taught her a lot about “cancel culture”.

“I have learned a whole lot. Only a few understand it and it’s impossible to know till you’re in it. And it’s hard to talk about it in that sense because obviously, you sound whiney when you’ve done something wrong,” she added.

“It just sucks. There is no winning. But there never is here anyhow. All I know is I love you guys, I miss you guys, and I just needed an honest moment with you because I’m just. Tired of being sick with myself all day.

“I don’t even know if it’s good to say any of this because it’s gonna get brutally picked apart but I dunno.

“I can’t do this silent shit anymore! If you or someone you know has also been canceled please let me know if there is a canceled club reunion because I could use some time off my couch!”

Nigeria, U.S tops countries with high rate of depression -Banky W

Iconic singer and actor, Banky W has averred that having money and attaining success, doesn’t guarantee fulfillment.

The ‘Final Say’ crooner made this known recently when he spoke at The Water Brook Church in Lagos.

According to him, one can be prosperous without having peace of mind.

“You can have prosperity without peace, you can have cash without contentment. If money were the key to happiness why do so many wealthy people commit suicide? Meaning is more than money, it’s not about pay, and it’s about purpose.

I was doing some research for this message and I looked up the top ten countries that deal with depression and anxiety. It may surprise you to know that two of this top ten countries that deal with depression and anxiety, were Nigerian and America. That is interesting to me because it is clear that it is not a financial thing. Because ‘Yankee’, they have money, even the poorest people there are on welfare. The government supports them in one way or form. These are two countries on different ends of the financial spectrum in terms of earning power, in terms of GDP, in terms of revenue, in terms of income. Yet when you look up depression and mental illness, US is there, Nigeria is there”.

The politician who contested in the National Assembly election to represent Eti-Osa constituency in 2019 said: ”You know what else these countries struggle with? Top ten for drug abuse and alcohol abuse. There is a correlation between depression, anxiety and substance abuse. People are searching for meaning, even people that have success and money. When you don’t find the reason you are here, you will look for it in the wrong places. True success can only be measured by fulfillment”.

  • Scientists create blood test for depression, bipolar disorder

Scientists create blood test for depression, bipolar disorder

A group of researchers at the Indiana University of School of Medicine in the United States have created a blood test that they say could recognize mood disorders like depression and bipolar.

The study, which was published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, also builds on previous research into the blood biomarkers that track suicidality as well as pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Biomarkers are indicators of a biological condition often measured using blood, urine, or soft tissues to examine normal biological processes, pathogenic processes, or pharmacologic responses to a therapeutic intervention.

The study described the creation of a test composed of RNA (ribonucleic acid) biomarkers that can distinguish how severe depression is, the risk of developing severe depression in the future, and the risk of future bipolar disorder.

The research took place over four years with about 300 participants primarily from a patient population at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center using a four-step approach of discovery, prioritisation, validation, and testing.

The partakers were followed over time with researchers observing them in both high and low mood states. Each time, they recorded what had changed in terms of the biological markers in their blood between the two states.

They used large databases from previous studies in the field to cross-validate their findings. Thus, they validated the top 26 candidate biomarkers in independent cohorts of clinically severe people with depression or mania.

The biomarkers were tested in additional independent cohorts to determine how strongly they can predict who is ill or who would become ill. This way, they exhibit how to match patients with medications and potential drugs.

“Through this work, we wanted to develop blood tests for depression and for bipolar disorder, to distinguish between the two, and to match people to the right treatments,” said Alexander Niculescu, an author of the study.

“Blood biomarkers are emerging as important tools in disorders where subjective self-report by an individual, or a clinical impression of a health care professional, are not always reliable.

“These blood tests can open the door to precise, personalized matching with medications, and objective monitoring of response to treatment.”

Apart from the diagnosis and therapy discoveries in their study, Niculescu’s team also found that mood disorders are underlined by circadian clock genes, the genes that regulate seasonal, day-night, and sleep-wake cycles.

According to the researchers, the study has opened the door for their findings to be translated into clinical practice.

  • How regular water intake can help fight depression

How regular water intake can help fight depression

A General Physician, Dr Peter Atangwho, on Sunday, said drinking enough water everyday was one of the ways to avoid depression.

Atangwho, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of TeleMed Online Clinic, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Awka, that not drinking enough water would result in dehydration, a condition that could affect or damage the human brain.

He described dehydration as the loss of body fluid due to illness, sweating or inadequate water intake, explaining that not drinking enough water can make the brain cells suffer enough to produce symptoms of low mood.

“Dehydration stresses your body and slows down energy production in your brain. Dehydration also decreases the brain’s production of Serotonin, a chemical that affects the mood. All these work together to make you depressed, if you do not drink enough water.

“So, one way to avoid being depressed is to drink enough water every day, “he said.

Atangwho highlighted hot weather, excessive activity, low water intake, excessive sweating and some drugs like Furosemide, as some of the factors that could make the body get dehydrated.

He said that dehydration was dangerous as it could also damage body organs such as the kidney, the skin and even the heart.

“For people with no kidney problems, drinking three litres of water a day is fine.

“If you have a kidney problem or any other health issue that may warrant a reduction in the amount of water you should drink daily, please, consult your doctor.

“The amount of drinking water needed to maintain good health varies and depends on your physical activity level, age, health-related issues, and environmental conditions.

“Drink enough water to stay hydrated. Drink at least three litres of water a day, if you are generally healthy, to keep your organs healthy too,” he said.

“For example, you come out of the house and everybody loves you. You have access to something and your life is glamorous and then you go into the next phase and realize that all those were not real and it was just a part-time thing.

Back in 2013, the ‘Denge Pose’ crooner revealed his frustrations as a musician.

“I believe hundred per cent that I will come back with my own pattern. Let me tell you something, some people believe that you must play what these boys are playing before you can make it. No, I disagree. Play something that people will accept. Once people accept what you play, that is all. I listen to the music they play these days and discovered they are old pattern. It’s just a small touch that is added. Listen to Flavour. The beat is old, it is the tempo that has been increased. Even the woman that sang ‘Ko si Oba bi re’, is not different from the normal gospel music that was being played in the past. How can Baba Fryo sing like all these small boys? That is iniquity”

  • Ex-US First Lady, Michelle Obama suffers depression

Ex-US First Lady, Michelle Obama suffers depression

Former U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, said she has been “dealing with some form of low-grade depression” this year.

And she blames almost all on President Donald Trump.

Obama disclosed her mental health status in a new episode of her podcast on Wednesday.

She said the depression was “not just because of the quarantine, but because of the racial strife, and just seeing this administration, watching the hypocrisy of it, day in and day out”.

She said the Trump attitude is dispiriting.

The former first lady in the episode discusses mental health amid the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing protests over racial injustice with Michele Norris, the former anchor of NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

She blames, in part, the Trump administration’s response to current events for her depression.

“I don’t think I’m unusual, in that,” Obama said. “But I’d be remiss to say that part of this depression is also a result of what we’re seeing in terms of the protests, the continued racial unrest, that has plagued this country since its birth. I have to say that waking up to the news, waking up to how this administration has or has not responded, waking up to yet another story of a Black man or a Black person somehow being dehumanized, or hurt or killed, or falsely accused of something, it is exhausting. And it has led to a weight that I haven’t felt in my life, in a while.”

Obama said she deals with the depression in part by keeping a routine, something she learned to do during her years in the White House.

But she’s struggled at times recently with her sleep and exercise schedule.

“I’m waking up in the middle of the night, ’cause I’m worrying about something or there’s a heaviness,” she said. “I try to make sure I get a workout in, although there have been periods throughout this quarantine, where I just have felt too low. You know, I’ve gone through those emotional highs and lows that I think everybody feels, where you just don’t feel yourself, and sometimes there’s been a week or so where I had to surrender to that, and not be so hard on myself. And say, ‘You know what? You’re just not feeling that treadmill right now.’”

Obama went on to say managing “emotional highs and lows” requires “knowing yourself” and “the things that do bring you joy.”

“So for me, my spirit is lifted when I am feeling healthy, when I am surrounded by good people, you know, so I reach out,” she said, also noting that the Obamas have been gathering as a family to do puzzles most nights during the pandemic.

“I reach out to my family, and to my friends, even in this time of quarantine. You know, I fought to continue to find a way to stay connected to the people in my life who bring me joy, and my girlfriends, my husband, my kids; it’s the small things … because you have to recognize that you’re in a place, a bad place, in order to get out of it. So you kinda have to sit in it for a minute, to know, oh, oh, I’m feeling off. So now I gotta, I gotta feed myself with something better.”

The first episode of Obama’s new podcast was a conversation about community with her husband, former President Barack Obama.
