Obaseki demolishes Oshiomhole’s deputy, lawmaker’s houses in Benin

The Governor Godwin Obaseki led Edo State Government on Tuesday evening, demolished a property belonging to the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu.

Also demolished were properties belonging to a member of House of Representatives representing Owan Federal Constituency of the state, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere; and that of the owner of Sports Marketing Outfit, Pamozi, Mr. Mike Etamuagbon.

TheNewsGuru.com, TNG gathered that the properties demolished were all situated at the Government Reservation Areas (GRA) within the state capital, Benin City.

According to reports, Odubu’s property was occupied by his younger brother and his family at the time it was demolished, while that of Ihonvbere was still under construction.

While reacting to the destruction, Odubu described the demolition by the state government as unfortunate, saying the matter was already before the court.

He said he had read on the newspaper in January this year that his Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to his property situated at Dennis Osadebe Avenue in the Government Reserve Area (GRA) in Benin City had been revoked.

“But the information concerning the demolition came to me this afternoon, March 23, that my property situated at Dennis Osadebe Avenue has been brought down by agents of the government on the directive of the governor.”

“Before now, my attention was brought to a publication in the Observer newspaper in January that the C of O of my property have been revoked without prior notice given to me.

“I went to court on the matter and I am surprised that after they have been served, the government still went ahead to bring down my house with a bulldozer.

“My younger one was in the house when it was brought down and they did not give them notice nor allow them to remove any of their properties before destroying the place,” he said.

Narrating the incident, Mrs. Precious Odubu, wife to the former deputy governor’s younger brother, said at about 4pm, she noticed some policemen who came into the compound and she approached them to inquire about their mission.

“The way they came in, not through the main gate, I was afraid and asked about their mission and they told me that they want to demolish the house and if there are children in the building they should be brought out.

“Without even waiting for my response, they just brought in their bulldozers and started destroying the house without allowing us to remove our properties,” she explained.

Lagos #ENDSARS protesters reject Dep Gov’s proposed reforms, insists unit must be scrapped

The Lagos #ENDSARS protesters on Friday insisted the notorious unit of the Nigeria Police Force must be scrapped totally.

Recall that the protests commenced on Wednesday and has since spread to almost all the 36 states including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The protesters who kept vigil at the entrance of the Governor’s Office and the House of Assembly all through Thursday carried on with the protest on Friday morning with thousands others joining.

During the protest on Friday, the protesters insisted that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad must be “completely disbanded”.

Deputy Governor of the state, Obafemi Hamzat, addressed the #EndSARS protesters.

He said, “Police must find those spoiling their names and prosecute them. There are those of them who are harassing our youths, it must stop. The only way it will stop is for them to prosecute the bad eggs among them.

“Before you remove a fence, you must understand why the fence was put there. You must go on a tour. If there are issues, you repair it.”

Oshiomhole using thugs to monitor my movement in Edo, Deputy Gov’s wife cries out

Wife of Edo State Deputy Governor Mrs. Maryann Shaibu has cried out over alleged threat to her life and family by the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Shaibu, in a petition through her solicitors, Idemudia Ilueminosen & Co, to Police Commissioner Lawan Jimeta, alleged that Oshiomhole did not only threaten to deal with her, but also declared that he (Oshiomhole) had sent thugs to monitor her in Etsako West Local Government, to carry out the threat of dealing with her.

She urged the police to investigate the alleged threat, to bring Oshiomhole and his cohorts to book and avert harm.

Meanwhile, Oshiomhole in a reaction through his media aide, Victor Oshioke, described Shaibu’s wife’s petition as nothing, but a futile attempt to divert the attention of Nigerians from the trending video of Mrs. Shaibu, threatening to flog women old enough to be her mother, if they dared to exercise their rights to attend any event other than the one she organised.

Oshioke said: “The petition is a calculated attempt to drag down the name of Comrade Oshiomhole. Shaibu and his wife should find another way to launder their family image, which has been badly damaged by their numerous unguarded public utterances, captured on video, threatening violence on Edo people.

“Comrade Oshiomhole is a man at peace with himself and his environment. He is focused on marketing the APC governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and his SIMPLE agenda manifesto to Edo people, for their ultimate benefit.”

Edo 2020: Deputy Governor breaks silence on alleged rifts with Gov Obaseki

…Says My Loyalty To Obaseki unshakable
….It’s a mere propaganda to distract our supporters
Deputy Governor of Edo State Comrade Philip Shaibu has called on members of the public to disregard the ongoing propaganda that he is on war path with his Boss, even as he accused former APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his rejected son Ize-Iyamu of conducting their political affairs as a primitive war.
He described the allegation that he is on war path with his Boss over issue of fund as reckless, unguided and efforts to mislead people by those who are afraid of the unity that exist between him and his Boss.
“This Machiavellian system of politics where all forms of wizardry tactics are deployed both through fair and foul means will certainly achieve the opposite result,” Shaibu said.
The Deputy Governor cautioned the authors, sponsors and those with unprecedented capacity for lies and blackmailing to thread cautiously and advised them to first engaged their brains before putting their mouth and pen into forward gear.
A statement made available to the media by the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor, Mr Benjamin Atu, condemned the misleading story and online publication against the personality of the Deputy Governor by persons described as miscreants and mischievous elements sponsored by hopeless and helpless political jobbers and merchants.
Describing the publication against the Edo Deputy Governor as a malicious and devilish campaign of calumny, the statement noted that the plot of the enemies of the State is to create disagreement between the Deputy Governor and his Boss Governor Godwin Obaseki, but their efforts are instead achieving the opposite result and the more the blackmailing, the stronger the bond between the Governor and his most dependable deputy.
Comrade Philip Shaibu vowed that his loyalty to Governor Godwin Obaseki will remain sacrosanct, saying that both Adams Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu have, through their publication, revealed their wish and their wish will never happen.
“Politics has a way of letting you know the inner recess of the human mind.
“My loyalty to Governor Obaseki is sacrosanct and not debatable. No amount of blackmail or propaganda can stop me from serving the interest of the Governor and Edo people.
“I am solidly with Governor Obaseki. It is a joint ticket and we will make sure we win the September 19th Governorship election in Edo State” Philip Shaibu declared.
He called on the People of the state to disregard ongoing rumor and warned them to: “Expect more of this kind of propaganda from these characters that didn’t wish us well.
The Statement then called on the Nigeria Police and and other Security agencies to take a closer look at the intentions of purposes of these miscreants and mischievous elements and ensure that the perpetrators are decisively dealt with.

Impeachement of Ondo Deputy Gov suffers setback as CJ stops Assembly’s request to set up investigative panel

The impeachment process of the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr Agboola Ajayi, by the state House of Assembly suffered a set back as the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, rejected a letter written to her by the Assembly to constitute a panel that would investigate the allegations leveled against the deputy governor.

The House on Tuesday, during its plenary, served the deputy governor the notice of impeachment following an allegation of gross misconduct.

Fourteen members of the Assembly signed the notice while nine opposed the impeachment process.

However, Ajayi said he was yet to be served the notice but the Assembly insisted that he had been served.

In a letter personally signed by her, a copy of which has gone viral, the CJ said the House had not completed the constitutional process that would make her set up an investigative panel.

The letter was titled, Re: Request to set up 7-man panel pursuant to section 188(5) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

She added that the matter was already in the court of law.

Part of the letter read, ” The Honourable members of the House of Assembly have not completed the constitutional process that would lead your (Speaker) very good self to invite my humble self to set up a panel of 7 to investigate the allegation of gross misconduct as stipulated in the constitution.

“Furthermore, I wish to bring to your notice a copy of letter which I received earlier today (Thursday) from Kayode Olagoke SAN, which tells me clearly that the matter of impeachment of Hon. Alfred Agboola Ajayi, Deputy Governor of Ondo State is sub judice.”

The ongoing move to impeach Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has been stalled following refusal of the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olaranwaju Akeredolu, to set up a seven-man investigative panel.

Speaker Bamidele Oleyelogun had written to the Chief Judge that impeachment notice has been served on Hon Ajayi.

A total of 14 lawmakers signed an impeachment notice against Ajayi.

Speaker Oleyelogun informed Justice Akeredolu that setting up of the panel was in line with section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

A letter to the CJ and signed by the Speaker reads: “By the Resolution of the House today pursuant to Section 188 (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution as amended it was resolved that the allegations be investigated forthwith.

“It is in line with the above that request that you set up the 7-man panel to conduct the investigation as resolved by the Honourable House and the Panel, shall soon as possible, report back to the House.”

But the Justice Akeredolu, in a letter dated July 9 and addressed to the Speaker, said the lawmakers have not completed the constitutional process that would lead the Speaker to invite her to set up an investigative panel as stipulated by the Constitution.

Akeredolu said she also received a letter from Kayode Olatoke SAN that the matter of the impeachment of Ajayi was subjudice.

Fidau: Why Oyo deputy governor was denied entry – Ajimobi’s family

The family of the late Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi, said on Sunday that it had no intention to bar the Deputy Governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan, from the eight-day Fidau prayer organized for the deceased.

Ajimobi’s former media aide, Bolaji Tunji, said this in a statement issued in Ibadan on behalf of the family.

The family’s reaction followed reports that a delegation of the state government led by the deputy governor was barred from entering the venue of the event.

But Tunji, in the statement, said the family was not aware that the deputy governor would attend the event.

He added that neither the advance team nor the protocol unit informed the family.

The event, he added, was held in compliance with COVID-19 protocols established by NCDC, noting that not more than 30 people were allowed at the venue.

Tunji added that the seats were arranged according to the number after which the gate to the premises was shut.

He said when the family got the information that the deputy governor had arrived, aides rushed to the gate to usher him into the sitting room only to learn he had gone.

The statement said in part: ” There is the need to clarify the believed presence of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, at the 8th-day prayer of HE Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the immediate past governor of Oyo State

“The Deputy Governor arrived after the prayer had started. The event was strictly a family affair.

“There was a need to comply with the Covid-19 protocol as established by NCDC- Social distancing, not more than 30 people in a place and seats arranged, accordingly after which the gate was shut.

“No one was aware that the Deputy Governor was coming as neither the advance team nor the protocol informed us.

“By the time we got to the gate to usher him into the sitting room, he had left. Everything happened within a spate of 10 minutes.”

Tunji said efforts were made through a serving senator and a former attorney general to get in touch with the deputy governor.

He maintained that the incident was not meant as a slight to the deputy governor as he could sit in a private sitting room provided by the family.

Tunji, who described the incident as unfortunate, however, apologized to the deputy governor.
