[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Pray, believe, visualize and take action

    Read: MARK 11:20-24

    Meditation verse:

“Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask for when you pray, believe that  you receive them, and you will have them” (Mark 11:24).

Recently, I had a peculiar challenge that seemed to defy every solution. I took it  to God in prayers and desperately asked for His help. As I prayed passionately, I  began to visualize the solution. I could literally see what the solution looked like.  It was so real; I could almost touch it. After praying, I took a few steps as I felt  led to and forgot about the problem. A few hours later, I received the solution  to that situation and to my amazement, it looked exactly as I had envisioned it  would.

As I pondered over my experience, it dawned on me that perhaps the reason  why I had failed to receive answers in the past was due to unbelief and lack of  expectation. Jesus told his disciples that whatever they asked for when they  prayed, they must first believe that they will receive it. And when you believe that you will receive something, you adopt an attitude of expectation, visualize, or anticipate it and begin to prepare for it.

I learnt a vital lesson that Sunday afternoon. To receive your answers, pray,  believe, visualize, and act. Do not stop at praying. Every step counts!

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: What will you do with today?

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: What will you do with today?

    Read: Lamentations 3:22-27

    Meditation verse:

“They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (lamentations 3:23).

Each day represents an opportunity for a fresh start. Lamentations 3:22-23 says,  “through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail  not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness”. Psalm 5:3 says, “my voice you will hear in the morning, O lord, in the morning, I will direct it to  You, and I will look up”. Psalm 30:5 says, “weeping may endure for a night, but  joy comes in the morning”.

What do these verses say about each morning? The morning is for the hopeful,  not the regretful. No matter how long the night is, there will be the breaking of  dawn signaling a new day. According to Bishop T.D Jakes, the morning is  expectation, it is the future lying naked before you. It is the fresh hours of a new  opportunity just created for you to make a fresh start.

What will you do with today? Remember that you are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome every obstacle and become all that God destined for you to  become. You are a royal priesthood, a scion of the Almighty. Seize the  opportunity of today, take control of your circumstances, arise in Jesus’ name, and begin to write a new chapter for your life.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Faith like potatoes

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Faith like potatoes

    Read: Hebrews 11:1-39

    Meditation verse:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”  (Hebrews 11:1).

I stumbled upon a movie some years back which has made a huge impact on my  faith even till this day. The movie “Faith Like Potatoes” is based on the  autobiography novel of Farmer turned Evangelist, Angus Buchan. It portrays the  inspiring true story of Angus, a local farmer in South Africa who learnt to trust  God with every detail of his farming work. After his conversion, Angus began to live out his newfound faith in God in his work as a farmer. When a chance fire  threatened to spread, Angus Challenged his Zulu Farm assistant to pray with him  for rain. It wasn’t yet the rainy season and the assistant scoffed but Angus  prayed, and it rained. The rains extinguished the fire.

When the land experienced severe drought, such that nothing could grow on it,  Angus challenged the farmers to go ahead and plant their potatoes. Everyone  was skeptical, but Angus knew the God, he had come to believe in. So, the  potatoes were planted, but the surfaces remained very dry. It seemed nothing  was growing underneath. But when it was harvesting time, Angus again  challenged the farmers to dig and harvest the potatoes. That little Zulu town  experienced a bumper harvest of big, fresh potatoes like never.

At the end of the day, each one of us must live out our faith wherever we are  and in everything we do, otherwise our faith is useless. Our Christian faith must  be lived out especially in the marketplace. There is no separation between that  which is secular and spiritual, everything is spiritual. Our business practices,  engagements, associations, decisions, goals, activities, and outcomes must  reflect our faith in Christ. And this faith must be like the potatoes harvested by  Angus Buchan and his co farmers several years ago. Our faith must be big and  real enough for others to see, feel and touch.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Break camp and move forward

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Break camp and move forward

    Read: Deuteronomy 1:6-8

    Meditation verse:

“When we were at Mount Sinai, the Lord our God said to us, ‘you have stayed  at this mountain long enough. It is time to break camp and move on (Duet 1:7,  NLT).

A camp is a temporary structure typically used by soldiers, refugees or travelling  people. It is meant for a specific purpose and for a period. As the children of  Israel wandered through the wilderness on their way to the promised land, they  lingered on Mount Horeb, and God had to urge them on.

As you journey through life, you may find yourself in certain situations that  require you to accept conditions of living that you ordinarily should not. That is  your camp; it may be a place, situation, a position, or a job. It is only intended as  a temporary abode. The problem is that you become so comfortable and remain  in a place that was intended for a specific purpose and period.

You know there is something bigger and better ahead, but you allow fear, self doubt, counsel from men or the unwillingness to step out of your comfort zone  to keep you from God’s best. You allow your distractions instead of your faith to  define your journey. Sometimes, your ‘promised land’ may not be a clearly  defined path, but you need to trust God’s leading when He says to you ‘it is time  to move forward’.

It is the first day of a new month and God is saying to you that you have stayed  in that place long enough, you need to break camp and move forward. To advance this month, which camp do you need to break from?

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: End with thanksgiving

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: End with thanksgiving

    Read: Psalm 136:1-26

    Meditation verse:

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1  Thessalonians 5:18).

I came across a quote some time ago and it has stuck with me till date. It read:  “when you are always thankful to God, your tank will always be full”. God  inhabits the praises of His people and wherever God dwells, blessings are sure  to abound. The bible instructs us to give thanks to God in every situation. This  implies having a lifestyle of thanksgiving, which is the hallmark of a fulfilled life.  King David was in the habit of giving God thanks. Not a few of his psalms had  thanksgiving as their theme. In Psalm 95:2 and 100:4, he encouraged us to enter  God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise. In Psalm 100:4, he instructed all to  be thankful unto God. Little wonder God referred to him as “a man after His own  heart”.

It is a spiritual imperative that you continuously give thanks to the one whose knowledge of your circumstances is supreme and who declares the end of a  matter from the beginning. God is good to those who fear Him, and whilst He is  not the author of all the bad things that may happen to you, He may permit  certain trials for your benefit. When you thank Him in every situation, you  position yourself to receive all He intends for you to have or learn all He wants  you to learn. This way, you emerge stronger, wiser, and victorious in all things.  When we murmur or grumble, we are displaying a lack of faith in the God who  controls the affairs of the whole earth. Without faith, it is impossible to please  God.

Today marks the end of the first half of this year. Be deliberate and purposeful  in giving thanks to God. Why not say this prayer today; “thank You Lord for  keeping me from January till this time. I believe that the plans you have for me  are good. I choose to give You thanks always and in everything, because no  matter how this year is going, You will cause all things to work out for my good  according to Your purpose in the end”.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: The food of fancy

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: The food of fancy

    Read: Numbers 11:1-35

    Meditation verse:

“And they tested God in their heart by asking for the food of their fancy” (Ps  78:18).

As you present your requests to The Almighty, are you asking Him for the ‘food  of fancy’ or for His will to be done in your life? The ‘food of fancy’ is anything  you desire for purely selfish reasons: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes or  the pride of life. James 4: 3 states “you ask and do not receive, because you ask  amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures”. Seeking to fulfil God’s purpose  for your life will lead to peace and fulfilment, whilst the ‘food of fancy’ will  eventually lead to physical or spiritual death.

In today’s reading, the children of Israel complained against God’s daily supply  of manna. They had no idea why God chose to feed them with manna in the  wilderness. Perhaps it was what was best for their digestive systems in that  environment, but they rebelled and murmured against God. Then He gave them  the food of their fancy: quail. “But while the meat was still between their teeth,  before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and  the Lord struck the people with a very great plague” (Number 11:33)

God promises to hear you if you ask according to His will, and you are not left to  figure this out on your own. The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities, for we know  not what to pray for. “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the  Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will  of God” (Rom 8:27 NIV).

So, are you asking for the ‘food of fancy’ or are you asking in accordance with  God’s will? Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart this day.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Build your ark

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Build your ark

    Read: Genesis 6:13-22

    Meditation verse:

“And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the  ark, to keep them alive with you…” (Gen 6:19).

God said to Noah: “And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of  every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and  female. Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every  creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to  keep them alive”. (Gen 6:19-20). And Noah did exactly what God commanded  him to do. Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Noah had  hesitated or refused to build the ark? Every living thing would have been wiped  out. By taking two of every flesh into the ark, posterity was preserved.

Your ark symbolizes your assignment on earth. And just as Noah’s ark was not  meant to accommodate himself alone, your ark is meant to accommodate  others. It is your God ordained service to others. There are people you are called  to serve; either to build up, teach, heal, encourage, set free, feed, or serve in  any other way. These are the people who are meant to be in your ark. Their  destinies are tied to your assignment. If you fail to build your ark, you would be  depriving them of whatever blessing there is to be derived from you fulfilling  your assignment.

God makes provision for you in the place of your assignment. He said to Noah  “And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it  to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them” (Gen 6:21). I recall when  God called me to ministry, He said “in the place of ministry I bless you, I prosper  you, I correct you and I build you up”. So, you may be depriving yourself of the  blessings that God has in store for you if you fail to build your ark. It is also very  important that you build your ark (carry out your assignment) exactly as God has  commanded you to. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts nor are your ways  My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My  ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Is 55:8-9).

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Your purpose in life

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Your purpose in life

    Read: Jeremiah 1:1-12

    Meditation verse:

“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5).

What has God called you to do? Where do you find  your fire? What are you passionate about? What strikes a chord in your heart?  keep searching and asking, until you find it. Your purpose is a sealed order from  God, you need to open the seal and find out what the order is.

Here are some reasons why identifying and living out your purpose is important:  Your purpose will serve as a medium for you to serve others, thereby helping  you create impact and influence. It is the platform upon which you can become  all you were created for.

Your purpose will keep you motivated and energised, giving you something to  look forward to each day, despite the season of life you are in.

It will spark off your creative juices because you are doing work that you were  created for. There are no limitations to what one can accomplish in the place of  his or her assignment.

It will enable create multiple pathways in career and life. It will enable you create  multiple sources of income, thereby helping you achieve financial wholeness.

Your life’s purpose will inspire a renewed sense of hope and a future  expectation.

It will enable you to live an authentic life, because it is what you were made for.

It will help you answer the big question of life: who am I? This is the question of  your identity, and a lot of people are lost because they do not know who they  are. Most of the evil in the world today are supercharged by individuals with  little or no connection to a meaningful purpose in life. These are lost and  wandering souls.

It will help you build and leave a legacy behind

Lastly your purpose will prepare you for eternity because you will stand before  the Judge when all is said and done and give an account of your life here on earth  and how you used the gifts and talents you were given.

So be exactly who God had called you, to be. Don’t try to be another person. It  amounts to borrowing their armour. David put on Saul’s armour, but he couldn’t  walk. Trying to be some else is setting yourself up for failure in life.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Break free from that yoke

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Break free from that yoke

    Read: Genesis 27: 1-40

    Meditation verse:

You will live by the sword, and you will serve your brother. But when you grow  restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck”. (Genesis 27:40).

Jacob had stolen his older brother, Esau’s blessings again by pretending to be  him. So, when their father Isaac blessed Esau, he told him that he would serve  his younger brother, until he became restless. Only then would he throw away  the yoke from his neck.

There are certain things that you tolerate in your life even though they are not  serving you. Because they have been part of your life for a long time, you have  come to accept the fact that things cannot be better. They could be conditions,  circumstances, bad relationships, people who are abusive and who put you  down, toxic workplaces, abusive marriage, sinful habit, addiction, health issue,  weight problems, financial difficulty, or some other condition. These things are  undermining you severely, but you allow them, you permit them even though  you do not like them. These are yokes on your neck. A yoke is a wooden piece  fastened over the neck of two animals and attached to a cart for them to pull.  Scripturally, yoke depicts servitude, bondage, and burden. There is nothing good  about a yoke. Itslows you down, causes you to bend over or even disfigures you.

Change does not occur by happenstance. That situation is persisting because  you are not yet fed up with it. When you get fed up, you will find a way to break  free. Fed up with being a supplanter, Jacob wrestled with the angel, until  daybreak. He refused to let go until God gave him a new name and changed the  trajectory of his life. Fed up with being childless, Hannah prayed until she was  mistaken for a drunk. Fed up with the life-draining disease, the woman with the  issue of blood, pressed through the crowd to touch the helm of Jesus’ garment.

You are a partaker of God’s divine nature, and you deserve to live a fulfilling and  abundant life. Refuse to settle for anything less. Receive this life changing word  today, get restless and break free in Jesus’ name.

  • [Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Scatter your seeds on the ground

[Devotional] IN HIS PRESENCE: Scatter your seeds on the ground

    Read: MARK 4:26-32

    Meditation verse:

“But when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots  out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade” (Mark  4:32).

God’s principles cannot be broken. His word contains several principles that can  be applied for successful daily living. The principle of sowing and reaping is one  of such. You cannot expect a harvest if you did not sow any seed.

In today’s reading, Jesus likened the kingdom of God to a man who scatters his  seeds on the ground. To ‘scatter’ means to throw in various random directions.  The seeds must have been quite a lot for him to have scattered them. After  scattering, this man goes to sleep and as he rises by day, he sees that the seeds  have sprouted and grown. But he has no idea how this happened. And as the  shoots branch out, the birds of the air come under its shade to nest.

Whatever you do for God or in the name of the Lord will eventually grow and  prosper. Your efforts at sharing the good news, witnessing, giving, helping, or  encouraging others might seem weak and you may seem to influence very few  people, but God’s power is available to back you up and His word is a powerful  change and growth agent. As you faithfully discharge your duties, do not get  discouraged by the slow pace or little impact. Keep your eyes on the goal and  keep scattering your seeds, your great harvest of joy is coming.

Ecclesiastes 11:5-6 states: “As you do not know what the way of the wind is, or  how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know  the works of God who makes everything. In the morning sow your seed, and in  the evening do not withhold your hand, for you do not know which will prosper,  either this or that, or whether both alike will be good”.

Keep scattering your seeds on the ground. Your efforts at serving others in one  way or the other will yield bountiful dividends. As long as the earth remains,  seed time and harvest time shall not cease.
