“My wife bullies me” – Man tells Ibadan court

“My wife bullies and blackmails me,’’ a divorce-seeking man, Mr Kazeem Yekini told a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan on Thursday.

He pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage between him and his estranged wife, Opeyemi, saying the marriage had ruined his life.

He said Opeyemi was in the habit of blackmailing him everywhere and causing untold damage to his reputation.

Yekini alleged that his wife cast a spell on him causing him untold hardship while at the same time promising to continue to blackmail him all around Ibadan.

“As if these were not enough, she locks me up in a room, thus preventing me from going to my daily business.

“She also seized my car keys and invited the `Amotekun’ corps (the security network in the Southwest) to deal with me for no reason,’’ Yekini alleged.

He told the court that neighbours and family members never attempted to intervene “because they are afraid of her’’.

Opeyemi did not deny any of the allegations levelled against her under cross-examination.

Instead, she prayed the court to help her to resolve the matter amicably.

“It is true that I have been fighting my husband without justification.

“Before he decided to come to court, however, I tried all I could to pacify him, but he refused to listen to my pleas for mercy.

“If he maintains his stand, I pray the court to grant me custody of the only child between us,’’ Opeyemi pleaded.

In her judgment, the court’s president, Mrs S.M. Akintayo noted that the marriage between the duo was not duly consummated and hence, illegal.

She pointed out that there was no evidence before the court that Yekini paid Opeyemi’s bride price in their course of living together.

She explained further that other essential things necessary for a valid marriage as stipulated in the Customary Law were not presented before Yekini and Opeyemi started to live as husband and wife.

She concluded that there was no marriage to be dissolved in the first place.

Akintayo awarded custody of the only child produced by the union to Opeyemi and ordered Yekini to pay a monthly allowance of N10,000 for the child’s upkeep.

She ruled that the duo could go their separate ways, but ordered them to maintain peace and order.

I can marry another woman’s husband now – Actress Toriola

Toriola, who tied the knot in 2018 and divorced in 2021, also disclosed she would not mind marrying a widower or someone who has previously been in a marriage.

The single mother of one revealed this in a recent interview with media personality, Debbie Shokoya while stressing that her perspective on being a second or third wife has evolved.

“I used to have the mindset that I can’t be a second or third wife, but that has changed because I’m after one now,” said the Nollywood actress, who had been unattached for a considerable period.

Toriola, emphasizing her pursuit of personal happiness, asserted that she would gladly marry an individual who shares a similar experience, such as being a widower or someone who, like her, has previously been in a marriage.

Why I stopped attending church – Daddy Freeze

Media personality, Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze has disclosed why he stopped attending church.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Daddy Freeze disclosed he stopped attending church after his pastor expelled him from sitting in the front row following his divorce.

Speaking in the latest episode of the Teju Babyface Deep Dive podcast, Daddy Freeze said shortly after his divorce in 2014, the pastor of the church he was attending, asked him to start sitting at the back seat since he is a divorcee.

The OAP explained that before his divorce, he was a church worker and was very active in the organisation of the church’s programme but he was expelled immediately after his divorce.

He said he decided to stop going to church instead of “hiding” in the back seat.

He said he started studying and researching the scriptures on Sundays, which led him to discover that most of the things Nigerian churches preached were “flawed.”

Daddy Freeze said, “My marriage had always been troubled and in 2014 it came to an end.

“And I remember I used to do events in my church. The church minister used to pay me then to do events which I celebrated.

“At least, the pastor was not eating all the money, he was sharing with the people who were working.

“I was booked for an event that I used to do for the church, and I got a call that I should cancel it because of my divorce or pending divorce drama.

“And I was like, ‘Because I’m going through a divorce does that remove God from me?’ I questioned that too.

“Then the pastor came to my house and we had a conversation.

“He was like, ‘I’m not telling you not to come to the church but when you come to the church, sit at the back.’

“And I was like what’s all this? So, that made me sit at home on Sundays. Instead of going to church and hiding, is it not better that I sit at home?

“So, sitting at home on Sundays now started feeding the holes in my brain.”
