  • How my ex-husband physically abused me – Viral bread seller, Olajumoke recounts

How my ex-husband physically abused me – Viral bread seller, Olajumoke recounts

Olajumoke Orisaguna, famously known as ‘Olajumoke Onibread’ has recounted her harrowing experience with domestic abuse.

The former bread seller turned model who recently joined City FM as a radio presenter, hosting her own talk show, “Kilon Shele”,  alleged that she endured a toxic relationship with her ex-husband Sunday Orisaguna.

According to Orisaguna, she had lived in Ire, Osun state with her husband before she relocated to Lagos.

The model described the environment at their Ire home as “hostile”, citing her mother-in-law’s “mistreatment” and Sunday’s “physical abuse”.

She said after relocating to Lagos, she started hawking bread before crossing paths with TY Bello. She said Sunday, however, joined her in Lagos, and the alleged abuse continued.

Olajumoke said she felt ashamed to deny claims of marriage due to their two children, adding that her career suffered after their separation, alleging that Sunday maligned her reputation and that of her supporters.

She said, “The time we were in Ire, we stayed in my husband’s family house and there is no way you stay in that kind of place that you would not encounter problems. My mother-in-law was very hostile towards me and I would have to close my hairdressing shop on time just so I could go make dinner at home.

“And it was whatever she told her son is what he listens to. He would not even listen to my own side of the story before he started beating me up. Whenever me and his mother had misunderstandings, he would not even listen to me before hitting me. He would beat me to the extent that my face and body would be swollen. Sometimes he would even make use of a belt. That was when we were in Ire, Osun state.

“I would hide what was happening because I did not want my mom to hear. She also lived within the same vicinity as us. Before when I go and report to her, she’ll say she did not give me out in marriage to anyone. Even my mum’s younger sister was against me marrying him, as she had lived longer in Ire than me, so she knew what she was saying. But when the pregnancy issue happened, there was nothing anyone could do.

“So my mum will tell me she did not bless any marriage and she cannot also ask me to leave there, so she did not involve herself in the issue. When he beat me, I would not be able to wear short-sleeved clothes, but long-sleeved dresses. I did not tell anyone, only those who lived with us in the house knew about it. Fast forward to January 2016 when I wanted to move to Lagos, we were frying akara for his dad’s remembrance when I had an issue with his elder sister.

“As usual, he beat me up and I decided that I was going to leave, move to Lagos, and start working at the bakery because I had been there before. The third day after that incident, I packed my load and brought my two children with me to Lagos because I could not leave them there. Getting to the bakery, I had to explain to my friend what happened and she was happy that I had finally left because she was part of the people that warned me about him.

“What I am saying now, I have never said it out before. Even when I met TY Bello and I told her that I had a husband, my friend was furious when she found out. She was like I do not have sense, why would I say someone who beats me is my husband? I had to explain that I had to say that because I have children. That was how he came to Lagos. Even in the house that was rented for me in Surulere, he would still beat me up.

“I did not even tell TY Bello what was going on. I could not even admit that we were not married. I am a very gentle person so I did not tell anyone what was going on, I was enduring all of it. Sometimes when he goes out to drink, because he is someone to have a good time, when he gets back and a minor misunderstanding happens, he would start beating me again. It is almost four years since we separated.

“While he was beating me, he did not have a job. I was the one who would go out to hustle for us because I did not want my children to suffer. He would just stay at home and sleep or go out to drink. I did not even disturb him from doing these things, I just wanted him to stop beating me. Then he also started monitoring me when I went to work. If I go for photoshoots, sometimes I come back very late. He would accuse me of sleeping around with other men.

“So I decided to finally leave him. It got so bad that he would even start insulting my parents. It was when I separated from him, that was when everything started going down the drain because he started spoiling my name. All those who had helped me then, he started saying bad things against them. Since then, things started going down.”

APC Chairman arrested and suspended amidst rape allegations by 14-year-old maid

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Dutse, Jigawa State, has ordered the remand of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chief, Saleh Idris, who is the chairperson of APC in Roni Local Government Area of Jigawa State, over allegations of raping and impregnating his 14-year-old housemaid.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested Idris on October 4 following a complaint by the victim’s brother, and he was subsequently charged by the NSCDC.

According to the NSCDC’s statement, laboratory tests at the State Sexual Assault and Referral Centre (SARC) revealed that the teenager was carrying “a healthy pregnancy of about four months and two weeks.”

“The suspect has already been charged to court, while the investigation is ongoing on the other allegations leveled on the two earlier mentioned to ascertain their level of involvement in the case,” the agency said.

Mr Idris’ action for which he has been charged is said to be contrary to section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act of Jigawa State and punishable under the same law.

The encounter between the 56-year-old suspect and the victim allegedly began when he offered her a drink at a time when his wife was not at home, which made her lose consciousness. According to the statement, she was then sexually assaulted by the suspect.

After regaining consciousness, the suspect allegedly threatened her not to tell anyone or risk losing her monthly allowances. The victim continued working in his house for seven months without pay, and the abuse continued until the pregnancy became apparent.

The magistrate, Salisu Musa, ordered the remand of Idris in the correctional facility until November 22 to afford the agency more time to complete investigations.

Meanwhile, the APC in Jigawa State has suspended Idris over the allegations based on the party’s determination that his actions contravened the provision of Article 21.2 of the APC Constitution 2022 (as amended).

“Following the allegation of illegal intercourse against your housemaid, and the outcome of the preliminary investigation, by the state chapter of the party, we resolved that the act contravenes the provision of Article 21.2 of the APC Constitution 2022 (as amended).

“That (the party agreed) on the need for further investigation on the matter. Consequently, you are hereby suspended from the chairmanship of the party of Roni local government spending final report of investigation,” the party’s letter to the suspect read in part.

The APC chairman in the state, Aminu Sani, stated that preliminary investigations showed he had a case to answer, and he would remain on suspension pending the final investigation of the case.

The suspension will last until the final report of the investigation is available.

Antony dropped from Brazil over domestic violence claims

Manchester United Antony has been removed from the Brazilian national football team squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to serious allegations of domestic violence.

The Brazilian football federation CBF has said.

“As a result of the facts that came to light on Monday (04/09) involving Manchester United striker Antony, and which needed to be investigated.

“In order to preserve the alleged victim, the Brazilian national team and the CBF… the athlete has been dismissed from the Seleçao,’’ the Brazilian federation said in a statement.

The CBF said that the 23-year-old, whose full name is Antony Matheus dos Santos, would be replaced by Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus in the squad for Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

Brazilian media had previously reported the allegations made by Antony’s former girlfriend of physical assault.

  • Ondo Deputy Governor denies allegations of beating up his wife

Ondo Deputy Governor denies allegations of beating up his wife

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has denied allegations of physically abusing his wife, describing it as taking politics too far.

A statement issued on Sunday in Akure by his media aide, Mr. Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, quotes Aiyedatiwa as stating that the allegations were baseless and the imagination of a faceless group.

It would be recalled that there was news making the rounds on social media that the deputy governor allegedly assaulted his wife.

The statement, which noted that the deputy governor reserved the right to privacy particularly with respect to his family, said there had never been any issue of domestic violence as alleged, as his wife, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, was at the moment outside the shores of the country.

“It has come to the attention of the Office of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, that a baseless and false report credited to a faceless group alleging the deputy governor of domestic abuse and assault on his wife.

“This falsehood and its peddlers would have ordinarily been ignored at this time but the need to halt further negative reports and rumours capable of creating needless tension in our state has necessitated this response.

“The said allegation of domestic abuse against the person of the deputy governor is a figment of the imagination of those behind it and their ungodly intentions to cause crisis in the state had been known for weeks and therefore such falsehood did not come as a surprise.

“It is not a secret that Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa has lived and worked in the United Kingdom for many years before her husband became an elected public official in Nigeria.

“And since then she has been shuttling between the United Kingdom and Nigeria to take care of the home and the children who are also in the United Kingdom.

“Therefore, any report of alleged domestic issues within the family should be taken as the handiwork of the enemies of the state who are bent on causing crisis where there is none.

“And we therefore warn those spreading such falsehood to desist or face the consequences,” the statement said.

According to the deputy governor, he has been busy with official duties of his office and performing duties delegated to him by his boss, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu, while on leave.

“It is, therefore uncharitable for anyone to claim that the deputy governor has in that period carried out “multiple assaults” on his spouse who is out of the country.

“This is nothing but political blackmail taken too far.

“We urge the good people of Ondo State to ignore such falsehood as those behind it may just be plotting further attacks on the deputy governor to promote their sinister agenda,” the statement concluded.

  • I’m scared of my wife’s charms, domestic violence, man tells court

I’m scared of my wife’s charms, domestic violence, man tells court

An estranged husband, Ismail Adegoke, on Wednesday, told a Mapo Grade A Customary Court at Mapo in Ibadan, that he abandoned his matrimonial home because of his wife’s inclination for charms.”

In his testimony, Adegoke told the court that though his cohabitation with his wife, Tawa, had produced two children, “I had to run away from our matrimonial home because I wanted to save my life.

“As if that was not enough, I came across charms inside Tawa’s bag one day and I challenged her, but she went mad with me and swore that there would no longer be peace in the house.”

Adegoke testified that he was forced to move into his personal house due to his wife’s constant bickering and domestic violence, meted out on him and members of his family and co-tenants.

He told the court that he had done everything within his powers to satisfy Tawa’s yearnings, including opening several shops for her at different times.

“One day, Tawa told me that she would no longer stay in the shop because it was boring, adding that it was only old women who stay put in a particular place for trading.

“Then, she rented another shop far away from the house which permitted her to leave home at 7 a.m and return late in the night, mostly around 9 p.m.

“As a result, I was forced to start taking care of the our two children, including taking them to school.

“It was as a result of her ceaseless domestic violence with people that my mother told me to go and complete my building.

“To stay alive, I abandoned my matrimonial home and rented an apartment until the dust settled,” Adegoke told the court.

He pleaded with the court to grant his application for dissolution of the marriage as all entreaties from both families had failed to assuage Tawa’s anger and become remorseful.

But Tawa, who did not oppose the application for dissolution of their marriage, however, accused Adegoke of adultery.

“My lord, Adegoke womanizes and ran away for a whole year with a lady called Auntie near our house.

“He doesn’t take any responsibility for the children’s education as I was forced to sell off my wares to be able to send the children to school.

“Worst still, Adegoke has been physically abusing me since 2003; in fact, I’m ready to part ways with him,” Tawa said.

Delivering judgment, the President of the court, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, held that there was nothing to be dissolved between Adegoke and Tawa because there was no valid marriage between them based on the evidence available to the court.

Akintayo however, granted custody of the two children of the union to the respondent and directed the petitioner to be responsible for their medical and educational needs.

She ordered the duo to be jointly responsible for the welfare of the children.

  • Arabic teacher in court over sexual abuse of pupil

An Arabic teacher, Farouk Adam, is facing trial before an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court for allegedly fingering his nine Islamic pupils, ages seven to 13 years.

Farouk is therefore facing a nine-count- charge bordering on sexual assault.

A nurse, Oluchi Nwoke-Okoi, on Monday, while being led in evidence by the State Prosecutor, Olufunke Adegoke, said she was a staff of Women At Risk Foundation and had 15 years of experience in midwifery told the court her expert opinion on the matter.

Nwoke-Okoi, a registered nurse and midwife, said she attended to the nine survivors and conducted vagina examinations on seven of them after their mothers brought them to the WARIF centre on February 20, 2019.

In her testimony; “The survivors and their mothers were brought to the centre by police officers. We took time to question each of the survivors and also conducted a vagina examination on them.

“Seven of the survivors said that the defendant, who is their Arabic teacher, on several occasions, inserted his fingers into their vaginas.

“The eighth survivor said the defant only touched her breast while the ninth survivor told us that she was afraid to attend the Islamic class after her sister told her that the defendant inserted his fingers into her vagina.

“Vagina examination was carried out on them. Based on their histories and the vagina examination, the result shows an absence of hymen. [The} conclusion is suggestive of sexual assault of a minor,” she said.

The witness told the court that the youngest of the survivor was seven years while the oldest was 13 years.

In cross-examination by defence counsel, A.O. Okonkwo, Nwoke-Okoi said she was certified by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, adding that the vagina examination she carried out on the survivors was not outside her practice.

She further said that vigorous scratching could not tamper with hymen.

“I have a license to practice as a registered and certified midwife and the vagina examination I carried out is not outside my practice.

“Laceration of the vagina means bruises, injuries or scars on the vagina. In some cases, when the vagina is tampered with, there may be a laceration or not.

“In the case of sexual assault, laceration can be seen when the survivor struggles or when penis, fingers or object is being forced into the vagina.

“In the same vein, the hymen cannot be intact when the finger, penis or object is inserted into the vagina. It is not in my power to decide whose fingers penetrated the vaginas of the survivors and I disagree that scratching can tamper with the hymen,” the nurse said.

The alleged offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, (2015).

Justice Abiola Soladoye adjourned the case until October 5 for the defendant to open his defence.

    Giggs

Giggs, on Monday, announced he is standing down as Wales manager with immediate effect.

Giggs was spotted leaving Manchester Crown Court where he was appearing on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm to his ex-girlfriend, Kate Greville, common assault to her sister Emma Greville, and controlling or coercive behaviour.

The case will go to trial at the same court on January 24.

The former Manchester United player has been on leave from his post since November 2020 and faces a domestic violence trial in Manchester on 8 August.

In his place, Wales’ caretaker manager Robert Page masterminded his country’s playoff win over Ukraine to book their place at this year’s World Cup in Qatar – the first time Wales have qualified for the finals since 1958.

Giggs is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour against his former girlfriend Kate Greville between August 2017 and November 2020.

He is also accused of assaulting Ms Greville, causing her actual bodily harm, and of the common assault of her younger sister, Emma Greville, at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on 1 November 2020.

The 48-year-old has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

At the time he was charged, the former footballer said he “looked forward to clearing my name”.

    Giggs

In a statement, Giggs said he resigned as it is “only right that the Wales FA, the coaching staff and the players prepare for the tournament with certainty, clarification and without speculation around the position of their head coach”.

He added: “Whilst I am confident in our judicial process, I had hoped that the case would have been heard earlier to enable me to resume my managerial responsibilities.

“Through nobody’s fault the case has been delayed.

“I do not want the country’s preparations for the World Cup to be affected, destabilised or jeopardised in any way by the continued interest around this case.”

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) acknowledged Giggs’ statement, adding: “The FAW places on record its gratitude to Ryan Giggs for his tenure as manager of the Cymru Men’s National Team and appreciates the decision he has taken, which is in the best interests of Welsh football.

“The full focus of the FAW and the Cymru Men’s National Team is on the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.”
