If a producer demands sex, call him out – Don Jazzy

Popular music producer, Don Jazzy has said that female artistes face more challenges than their male counterparts in the Nigerian music industry.

The revered beat-maker made this known in a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, speaking in a combination of Nigerian Pidgin and English, Don Jazzy said, “I have a record label, so I have male and female artistes. In the past, maybe I had the opportunity to go through a female artiste’s phone and read conversations that the female artistes had had with a bunch of producers, TV people, people in the industry.. Everybody just wants sex. It’s tiring. I feel sorry for them.”

Don Jazzy also noted that he believes the society needs to raise the male child better.

He said, “We need to fix the system in general. We need to train the male child better.”

Disrespecting wife over bride price is shallow mindset-Don Jazzy

Renowned music producer and showbiz mogul, Don Jazzy, has condemned the way some men treat their wife because of the bride price they paid to secure her hand in marriage.

The outspoken entertainer noted that , disrespecting one’s wife because of the bride price paid is a shallow mindset.

Don Jazzy however did not specify whether the disrespect from such men is as a result of the amount demanded from them before they got married to their wife.

The music producer tweeted, “So apparently some of the men that disrespect and treat their wives like sh*t do so becos they paid some useless bride price. Kai, how do we educate the multitude with this shallow mindset?”

A Twitter user, @iam_jaycheqs, whose profile says “women are not properties,” shared her opinion, saying “the bride price tradition needs to go.” According to her, “It holds no water in this modern time and age.”

She added, “What is the purpose? And why won’t a man feel like he owns a person after paying for her?”

She got a response from @oncle_thereal who said, “Like Don said, people need to be educated. Culture should not be lost or sacrificed on the altar of modernization. The culture of paying bride price in itself isn’t wrong or bad. It’s the individual mindset that makes things seem wrong. Hence, educating people better.”

@ItzMimiLSD added that the men Don Jazzy spoke of want their wife to reverence them because of the bride price they paid.

She said, “This set of men actually didn’t grow with love, they have some stupid ego in them, they feel the woman owes them the whole world just bcuz they paid some silly bride price. This is usually common among men who are still struggling to fit into the ‘middle family’.”

She added, “And then they spend lots of money during the marriage rites so they just keep reminding the woman of how much they paid as bride price and the huge amount of money they spent traditionally to the direct family of the bride. They feel the woman should worship them.”

I deliberately failed in secondary school to pursue music-Don Jazzy

Ace music producer and singer, Don Jazzy has said he sabotaged his secondary school education to pursue music.

The record label boss made this known as a guest on Bounce Radio interview with Ebuka Uchendu.

Don Jazzy recounted how he showed up with faked results from one of his final exams, which he failed.

“My parents divided us into two. Two went to FGC Ijanikin and two others went to Kings College. They used to report me for skipping classes. My dad would ask where I was and he would be told, ‘the music hall’. He already knew music was where I was going. Any other thing was not entering, even as I was a brilliant kid,” he said.

“When I started failing in SS2, I did it on purpose. I was doing it to join some bad gangs. O.C Ukeje and I were in a music group called Ministration Voices, a gospel band. We were seven. We used to sing and write songs. I backslid towards the ending of SS2 because I wanted to join some other guys who were into some other form of music.

“And for protection from rich kids. I became friends with the strongest guy, Niyi Adelusi. My colleagues and I used to bet over the first to submit during tests. It was like I was hit with voodoo, especially in WAEC. I would just submit. My parents started to beat me. During my SS3 mock, I came back home with a faked result, where I didn’t do well.

“My dad visited my sister in school and they had posted the real results. She told him I had disgraced the family. ‘4P, 4F, 1C’. It had traumatized her so much that she crammed it in her head. The C was in Igbo or Yoruba. My dad was pissed. I had to make up with my knowledge of computers, which made up for my stupidity alongside music.”

Don Jazzy reacts to claims of being broke

Micheal Collins Ajereh, Nigerian music producer better known as Don Jazzy who recently acquired a new luxury mansion in Lagos, has reacted to claims that he is broke.

The music producer made this known in a recent chat with Ebuka Uchendu for Bounce Radio.

Reacting to claims that his being broke made him opt for a rented apartment before he settled for his new luxury mansion, he said: “I have a lot of things that I would use 200, 300 million to invest in, than to just throw it on a house. I actually prefer to invest the money on my businesses. That money would do me well than just using it to purchase a giant house. I moved from a rented house. I don’t really care. Am I leaving in your house? I moved from different places to other different places. The people that matters knows what’s up. You don’t need to know what’s up”, he said.

The influential showbiz personality also stated that he has five houses in Lagos, adding that he is passionate about real estate.

“It’s a thing of joy, I am happy. I have other houses out for rent on the mainland.I have five houses in Lagos. There are two things I would go into at the end of the day, venture capital and real estate. I like investing in people’s businesses, I do already, but I will do that on a larger scale at some point. When I am done with this music thing, at the end of the day, I want to invest in real estate”.

Shedding light on the amount of rooms, he has in his new mansion, Don Jazzy said: “I have five rooms in the new house and I live alone. Someone said the house is small for me, I don’t even move away from my room, it is already too big. What do you want to use all the rooms for? It is Nigeria that gives us this mentality that you must own a house. There was a time, I was perfectly okay living in my studio. My studio was huge, has over twelve rooms. I was fine staying in one”.
