DSS debunks questioning Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage

The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted reports that it invited Don Jazzy and music sensation Tiwa Savage for questioning over political utterances against President Muhammadu Buhari.

TheNewsGuru recalls that until recently, the entertainers have been vocal about their displeasure with insecurity, bad governance and other issues plaguing the society.

Though it was not clear when the alleged invitations and interrogations of the entertainers were carried out, an online medium on Tuesday night claimed the meeting held in Lagos two-weeks ago.

Dismissing the allegation, an irritated spokesman for DSS, Peter Afunanya, who did not allow the reporter ask her question yelled: “We did not invite any musician.”

Asked if the DSS has never invited or detained for questioning in recent times, Afunanya simply hung the phone. Further calls to him were rejected.

TheNewsGuru recalls that days back Don Jazzy took to his official Twitter page to debunk news of his alleged questioning.

In an 11-second video, he sarcastically asked “what is quizzes?” in reaction to the headline of the online news site.

Details have emerged on how music producer, Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage, were invited by the Department of State Serviced for questioning over alleged political utterances against the administration of President Muhamamdu Buhari.

Following a rise in sexual assault cases across Nigeria especially against women, Tiwa Savage started a movement known as “WeAreTired” in protest against the sad situation

Through the movement, the svelte singer called on Buhari’s administration to take action to curtail the tide of rape in the country.

TheNewsGuru gathered that several posts on social media calling on the government to live up to its responsibilities to Nigerians, earned Tiwa Savage an invitation by the DSS.

Together with Don Jazzy, Savage was invited to the DSS office in Lagos two weeks ago during which they were warned to be careful with their posts on the social media.

Shortly after that occurrence, the two celebrities together with colleagues Yemi Alade and Waje were summoned by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, who while sharing efforts they were making to tackle rape and other problems in the state and country, cautioned the entertainers to steer clear of political remarks in order not to incur the wrath of the President Buhari administration.

Confirming the subtle warning from government, Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage both appear to have reduced their social media posts in times after the meeting with the DSS and police in Lagos.

For example, Tiwa has stopped using the #Wearetired hashtag after the meeting with DSS Director at their Shangisha, Lagos office.
