US President, Donald Trump recants ‘shithole’ comment, says ‘I respect Africa’

President Donald Trump of the United States has sent a letter to African leaders, saying he “deeply respects” the people of Africa.

He also says Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will make an “extended visit” to the continent in March, his first in that role.

The letter dated January 25 came as the continent’s leaders gathered for the African Union summit this weekend in Ethiopia’s capital.

U.S. diplomats have scrambled for days to address shock and condemnation after Trump’s reported comparison of African nations to a dirty toilet.

Trump has said he didn’t use such language while others present say he did.

Many in Africa were taken aback by the comments after nearly a year of little attention to Africa by the Trump administration.

On Friday, Trump met with Rwanda’s President and new African Union chair Paul Kagame at the World Economic Forum, calling Kagame a “friend.”

The 55-nation continental body’s summit is expected to respond to Trump’s vulgar remark.

An AU spokeswoman has said the organisation was “frankly alarmed” by the comments and a number of African nations have spoken out or summoned U.S. diplomats to explain.

Trump, in the letter, claims the U.S. “profoundly respects” the partnerships and values shared by the U.S. and Africans and that the president’s commitment to strong relationships with African nations is “firm.”

The letter offers Trump’s “deepest compliments” to the African leaders as they gather.

It notes that U.S. soldiers are “fighting side by side” against extremism on the continent and that the U.S. is working to increase “free, fair and reciprocal trade” with African countries and partnering to “safeguard legal immigration.”

  • How I had sex with Trump without condom – Porn star reveals

A certain porn star, Stormy Daniels shocked many when she confessed having had unprotected sex with Donald Trump, US President.

According to reports, she was supposedly paid $130,000 by Trump to keep mum about the fling.

Speaking in a chat with In Touch, the porn star recounted her sexual dalliance with Trump.

Hera her: “The first time I met him was actually out on the course. They brought us out to ride around and he kept looking at me and we were introduced.”

Stormy revealed that he invited her to a dinner date after requesting for her number which he said was simply for business purposes.

“So I said yeah, of course. He invited me. He told me to come up to meet him in his room.

“He told me his room number and what not. I can’t remember the room number, but I do know that it was the penthouse or at the top of the Harrah’s.

“The sex was nothing crazy. He wasn’t like, chain me to the bed or anything. It was one position. I can definitely describe his junk perfectly, if I ever have to. He definitely seemed smitten after that. He was like, “I wanna see you again, when can I see you again?”

Stormy further noted that they didn’t use protection.

“It was kind of in the moment. And I was really kind of upset about it because I am so, like, careful. The company I work for is condom-only,” she said.

“But I remember for a fact that we didn’t because I’m allergic to latex. And I didn’t go up there with condoms on me.

“I know that for a fact because 99% of men don’t carry non-latex condoms on them, so I usually always have one in my backpack but I thought I was going to dinner, so I only had a tiny little cocktail purse.”

A White House official has denied allegations of infidelity, saying: “These are old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election.”

  • Trump considers big ‘fine’ over China intellectual property theft

President Donald Trump said the United States was considering a big “fine” as part of a probe into China’s alleged theft of intellectual property, the clearest indication yet that his administration will take retaliatory trade action against China.

In an interview with the media, Trump and his economic adviser Gary Cohn said China had forced U.S. companies to transfer their intellectual property to China as a cost of doing business there.

The United States has started a trade investigation into the issue, and Cohn said the United States Trade Representative would be making recommendations about it soon.

“We have a very big intellectual property potential fine going, which is going to come out soon,” Trump said in the interview.

While Trump did not specify what he meant by a “fine” against China, the 1974 trade law that authorised an investigation into China’s alleged theft of U.S. intellectual property allows him to impose retaliatory tariffs on Chinese goods or other trade sanctions until China changes its policies.

Trump said the damages could be high, without elaborating on how the numbers were reached or how the costs would be imposed.

“We’re talking about big damages. We’re talking about numbers that you haven’t even thought about,” Trump said.

U.S. businesses say they lose hundreds of billions of dollars in technology and millions of jobs to Chinese firms which have stolen ideas and software or forced them to turn over intellectual property as part of the price of doing business in China.

The president said he wanted the United States to have a good relationship with China, but Beijing needed to treat the United States fairly.

Trump said he would be announcing some kind of action against China over trade, adding that he will discuss the issue during his State of the Union address to the U.S. Congress on Jan. 30.

Asked about the potential for a trade war depending on U.S. action over steel, aluminum and solar panels, Trump said he hoped a trade war would not ensue.

“I don’t think so, I hope not. But if there is, there is,” he said.

In Beijing, foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said there were no laws in China to force foreign investors to transfer technology, but acknowledged such things may happen as part of “market behaviour” between companies working with each other.

“There is absolutely no government meddling in these actions,” Lu told a daily news briefing on Thursday.

“At the same time, I want to stress that China will resolutely protect its legitimate rights,” he added, without elaborating.

Jeffrey Schott, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, said the penalties under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, which authorised the investigation into China’s intellectual property practices, would probably include a package of both tariffs and restrictions on Chinese investment in the United States.

“I suspect the U.S. measures will involve restrictions in areas where we don’t have WTO (World Trade Organisation) obligations,” Schott said. Trump likes to talk about tariffs so that may be part of the package too.

“The Chinese would have the legal right to retaliate against tariff increases.”

Throughout his 2016 election campaign, Trump routinely threatened to impose a 45 per cent across-the-board tariff on Chinese goods as a way to level the playing field for American workers.

At the time, he was also accusing China of manipulating its currency to gain an export advantage, a claim that his administration has since dropped.

Trump said on Wednesday that China stopped meeting the criteria for currency manipulation after his election, and he said making that designation while trying to work with Beijing.

  • ‘Shithole’: Group tells Trump of Nigerians’ immense contributions to U.S.

The Nigerian Lawyers Association has joined numerous Nigerian groups in the U.S. to remind President Donald Trump of the immense contributions that Nigerians in the United States. are making to the country.

The Nigerian lawyers group, in a statement by its President, Gbemisola Aregbesola, expressed what it termed its “profound disappointment” with Trump’s alleged recent remarks concerning immigrants.

The U.S. president was reported to have made some disparaging remarks about immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and Africa but Trump had denied it.

“President Trump’s comments were not only discriminatory and divisive, they failed to acknowledge the many contributions that immigrants from these countries have made to the United States.

“Thousands of this country’s most productive citizens are from countries that the President has denounced with his comments.

“Indeed, African immigrants from Nigeria have successfully integrated into many areas of American society and can be found in sports, media, movies, medicine, law and academia,” Aregbesola said.

According to her, the U.S. is a country made up of immigrants- from all over the world- who continue to provide significant and influential services that strengthen our nation and communities.

“The Nigerian Lawyers Association condemns any comments made by anyone that fail to recognise the contributions of all and seek to inflame biases.

“The Nigerian Lawyers Association stands by all immigrants and appreciates the diversity of culture, ideas, skills, talents that they bring to this country.

“It is this diversity that has contributed to the greatness of America, and has made this country a symbol of freedom and hope worldwide,” she said.

  • Trump announces Fake News award winners, CNN, NYT top list

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday night announced the winners of his highly anticipated Fake News Awards with CNN and New York Times emerging top on the list.

Trump crashed the Republican Party’s website on which he posted the list of the award winners moments after he tweeted the link announcing the winners, due to the high volume of traffic.

“And the FAKE NEWS winners are…https://gop.com/the-highly-anticipated-2017-fake-news-awards/ …” Trump tweeted.

Trump had on Jan. 2, said: “I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5 p.m. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!”

However, on Jan. 7, he said: “The Fake News Awards, those going to the most corrupt & biased of the Mainstream Media, will be presented to the losers on Wednesday, Jan. 17, rather than this coming Monday. The interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!”

Out of the 11 ‘fake news reports’ listed on the award, CNN won four, New York Times clinched two, while TIME magazine, ABC News, Newsweek and Washington Post won an award each.

The full list retrieved from the archive of the website read: “The New York Times’ Paul Krugman claimed on the day of President Trump’s historic, landslide victory that the economy would never recover”.

It also explained that “ABC News’ Brian Ross CHOKES and sends markets in a downward spiral with false report”.

It added that “CNN FALSELY reported that candidate Donald Trump and his son Donald J. Trump, Jr. had access to hacked documents from WikiLeaks.

According to it, “TIME FALSELY reported that President Trump removed a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. from the Oval Office.

“Washington Post FALSELY reported the President’s massive sold-out rally in Pensacola, Florida was empty. Dishonest reporter showed picture of empty arena HOURS before crowd started pouring in.

“CNN FALSELY edited a video to make it appear President Trump defiantly overfed fish during a visit with the Japanese prime minister. Japanese prime minister actually led the way with the feeding.

“CNN FALSELY reported about Anthony Scaramucci’s meeting with a Russian, but retracted it due to a ‘significant breakdown in process’.

“Newsweek FALSELY reported that Polish First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda did not shake President Trump’s hand.”

“CNN FALSELY reported that former FBI Director James Comey would dispute President Trump’s claim that he was told he is not under investigation.

“The New York Times FALSELY claimed on the front page that the Trump administration had hidden a climate report.”

“And last, but not least: “RUSSIA COLLUSION!” Russian collusion is perhaps the greatest hoax perpetrated on the American people. THERE IS NO COLLUSION!”

The post also went on to list 10 Trump administration’s major successes, adding “while the media spent 90 per cent of the time focused on negative coverage or fake news, the President has been getting results”.

It said the economy had created nearly two million jobs and gained over eight trillion dollars in wealth since the Trump’s inauguration.

It said African Americans and Hispanics were enjoying the lowest unemployment rate in recorded history adding, Trump signed historic tax cuts and relief for hardworking Americans not seen since President Reagan.

“President Trump’s plan to cut regulations has exceeded “2 out for every 1 in” mandate, issuing 22 deregulatory actions for every one new regulatory action.

“The President has unleashed an American energy boom by ending Obama-era regulations, approving the Keystone pipeline, auctioning off millions of new acres for energy exploration, and opening up ANWR.”

The list also included that ISIS was in retreat, having been crushed in Iraq and Syria.

President Trump followed through on his promise to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and instructed the State Department to begin to relocate the Embassy, it explained.

“With President Trump’s encouragement, more member nations are paying their fair share for the common defense in the NATO alliance.

“Signed the Veterans Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act to allow senior officials in the VA to fire failing employees and establishes safeguards to protect whistleblowers.”

“President Trump kept his promise and appointed Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Trump’s concluded.

  • Trump’s s##thole comment infuriates Martin Luther King Jr’s daughter

Children of the late civil rights icon, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. decried the disparaging remarks allegedly made by U.S. President Donald Trump against Africa.

The 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. Day was used to slam Trump at various protests tagged: ‘Rally against Trump’ in several cities in the U.S. on Monday, the official Federal holiday in the U.S. to honour King.

At gatherings across the nation, activists, residents and teachers honoured the late civil rights leader on what would have been his 89th birthday and ahead of the 50th anniversary of his assassination in Tennessee.

Trump allegedly used a vulgarity to describe African countries and questioned the need to allow more Haitians into the U.S. during a meeting with senators on immigration last week.

He also is said to have asked why the country could not have more immigrants from nations like Norway but Trump had said that was not the language he used.

King’s daughter, Rev. Bernice King, told hundreds of people who attended the Day at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta that civilisation originated from Africa.

“We cannot allow the nations of the world to embrace the words that come from our president as a reflection of the true spirit of America.

“We are one people, one nation, one blood, one destiny. All of civilisation and humanity originated from the soils of Africa.

“Our collective voice in this hour must always be louder than the one who sometimes does not reflect the legacy of my father,” she said.

In Washington, King’s eldest son, Martin Luther King III, also criticised Trump’s racist remarks.

“When a president insists that our nation needs more citizens from white states like Norway, I don’t even think we need to spend any time even talking about what it says and what it is.

“We got to find a way to work on this man’s heart,” King III, said.

The Pastor of the Church, Rev. Raphael Warnock, also took issue with Trump’s campaign slogan to “Make America Great Again”.

Warnock said he believed America “is already great in large measure because of Africa and African people”.

He urged people in the audience to speak out against such remarks about other countries, noting King’s own words that “silence is betrayal”.

Down the street from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago retreat in Palm Beach, Florida, Haitian protesters and their supporters shouted: “Our country is not a shithole”, referring to comments Trump reportedly made.

Trump, while signing the proclamation for King’s Day on Wednesday, praised him for dedicating his life to all Americans while also dedicating his weekly address to the nation, released on Monday, to King.

“Dr King’s dream is our dream, it is the American dream, it’s the promise stitched into the fabric of our nation, etched into the hearts of our people and written into the soul of humankind.

“It is the dream of a world where people are judged by who they are, not how they look or where they come from,” Trump has said.

King’s writings spoke of injustices against African-Americans, Native Americans and colonisation, among others.

  • White House physician reveals state of President Trump’s health

Dr Ronny Jackson, U.S. President Donald Trump’s White House physician, has declared the president to be in “excellent health”.

“The examination went exceptionally well. The President is in excellent health and I look forward to briefing some of the details on Tuesday,” Jackson said in a statement released by the White House.

Jackson’s declaration came after Trump received his first medical check-up at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre in Bethesda, Maryland, on Friday.

Trump’s mental state has become an issue of concern recently following revelations in a recent book: “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House”, written by Michael Wolff.

The book, which has sparked sharp criticisms among Trump’s opponents and the White House, suggested that the U.S. president was mentally unfit and also heavily criticised the Trump’s presidency.

Trump spent about three hours at the medical facility in Maryland for the check-up, his first as president.

The president, however, declared himself as “a very stable genius”, pushing back hard against any suggestion that he was mentally unfit.

The examination lasted several hours and measured things like Trump’s blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, heart rate and weight.

The White House did not, however, provide specific results of those tests.

Jackson, who also provided care for President Barack Obama and became a White House physician in 2006, is expected to provide a detailed readout of the exam on Tuesday and answer questions from reporters.

But conclusions about Trump’s mental alertness were not expected as the White House said Trump would not undergo a psychiatric examination.

Bornstein had said in a December 2015 letter: “If elected, Mr Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.”

In September 2016, two months before the November 2016 presidential election, Trump released a five-paragraph letter from his long-time physician, Dr Harold Bornstein, who concluded that Trump “is in excellent physical health”.

The letter put Trump’s blood pressure and cholesterol measurements in the healthy range, while his electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, echocardiogram and blood sugar were normal.

The doctor’s 2016 letter stated that Trump’s testosterone level, 441.6, was in the normal range, as were his Prostate-specific antigen reading for prostate abnormalities and tests of his liver and thyroid.

Trump was 70 when he took office on Jan. 20, 2017, making him the oldest person ever elected to the nation’s highest office.

  • Trump denies using term ‘shithole countries’ amid UN condemnation

Trump denies using term ‘shithole countries’ amid UN condemnation

U.S. President Donald Trump implied on Friday the language he used during the meeting on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was “tough” but he didn’t use the infamous “shithole countries” term.

On Thursday, U.S. media reported that Trump behind closed doors expressed displeasure over people migrating to the United States from “shithole countries.”

“The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used,” Trump tweeted.

Earlier in the day, the Office of UN Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said the US president’s reported remarks that immigrants were coming from “shithole countries” were racist.

TheNewsGuru reports that the African Union also blasted Trump for his profane comments about African countries and other nations, and recalled in a statement the U.S.’ history of bringing in slaves from the continent.

Trump used the words “shithole countries” to describe Haiti, El Salvador and African countries in response to

lawmakers suggested they restore protections for immigrants from there, the Washington Post reported Thursday.

The White House has not disputed the report.

Responding to the remarks, AU spokeswoman Ebba Kalondo reminded Trump that many Africans “arrived in the U.S. as slaves,” adding that Trump’s profane statement “flies in the face of all accepted behaviour and practice.”

She described the U.S. as “a global example of how migration gave birth to a nation built on strong values of diversity and opportunity.”

In her statement, Kalonda said the African Union and its partners would continue to address the causes of migration while also fighting against racism and xenophobia.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s governing African National Congress party took to Twitter to chide Trump over his “offensive” choice of words.

Others responded to the derogatory slur with humour. “Good morning from the greatest most beautiful ‘shithole country’ in the world!!!” Leanne Manas, a news anchor for South Africa’s SABC broadcaster, wrote on Twitter.

  • Trump ‘got message’ on opposition to visit – London mayor

U.S. President Donald Trump “got the message” on the strength of opposition to his planned visit to Britain, London mayor Sadiq Khan said on Friday after Trump said he had cancelled the trip.

Khan said: “many Londoners have made it clear that Donald Trump is not welcome here while he is pursuing such a divisive agenda

“It seems he’s finally got that message.”

He said Trump’s visit “would without doubt have been met by mass peaceful protests”.

Trump said he had cancelled next month’s visit, which had been set to include the opening of the new US embassy in London, because he did not like the building and thought it was a “bad deal” financially.

“I am not a big fan of the Obama administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for ‘peanuts,’ only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!” the U.S. president added.

“That is totally plausible Donald… Nothing to do with what would have been the biggest protests since the Iraq War,” anti-hate activist Brendan Cox said in reply to Trump’s tweet.

Labour lawmaker David Lammy, who had vowed to lead a protest against Trump if he visited, said the U.S. president was “too scared of us Londoners, who don’t want him darkening our door.”

The cancellation of the visit was “excellent news,” said Lindsey German, organizer of the Stop the War Coalition, which had planned a large protest against Trump.

Thomas Cole, head of policy for the cross-party, pro-EU group Open Britain, said Trump was “showing early signs of panic here [and is] perhaps less committed to a bilateral [trade] deal with UK than some had thought.”

Former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, who has been mainly supportive of Trump’s presidency, said he was disappointed by the cancellation.

“He’s been to countries all over the world and yet he’s not been to the one with whom he’s closest,” Farage told BBC Radio Four’s Today programme.

    “I think it’s disappointing.”

Prime Minister Theresa May invited Trump for a state visit when she met with him at the White House soon after he took office last year.

In a BBC interview on Sunday, May insisted that Trump “will be coming to this country” in spite of the opposition.

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson told parliament on Tuesday that he expected Queen Elizabeth II to meet Trump during his visit, saying she was “well capable of taking this or any American president in her stride.”

“I think we have to welcome the American President to Britain,” Johnson said. “We have to work with him.”

Nearly two million British people added their names to an online petition in 2017 calling for Trump’s visit to be downgraded from a state visit to avoid embarrassing the queen.

  • Trump cancels UK visit, says will not unveil new U.S. embassy

U.S. President Donald Trump canceled a visit to London scheduled for early this year, saying he was disappointed with the “Obama administration having sold” the U.S. embassy in the British capital.

“(The) reason I canceled my trip to London is that I am not a big fan of the Obama Administration having sold perhaps the best located and finest embassy in London for “peanuts,” only to build a new one in an off location for 1.2 billion dollars,” Trump said in a tweet late on Thursday.

However, the embassy website showed that the decision to move the location was taken months before Barack Obama took office in January 2009.

The U.S. Embassy & Consulates in the UK said in October 2008 the embassy would be relocated for security reasons.

“Bad deal. Wanted me to cut ribbon-NO!,” Trump said on Twitter.

The Daily Mail earlier reported the cancellation of Trump’s UK visit in which he was expected to inaugurate the new embassy.

The U.S. is leaving behind an imposing 1960 stone and concrete embassy in London’s upmarket Grosvenor Square, an area known as ‘Little America’ during World War Two, when the square also housed the military headquarters of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The new embassy on the South Bank is a veritable fortress set back at least 100 feet (30 meters) from surrounding buildings, mostly newly-erected high-rise residential blocks, and incorporating living quarters for the U.S. Marines permanently stationed inside.

The one billion-dollar-edifice, overlooking the River Thames, was wholly funded by the sale of other properties in London.
