Bundesliga: Haaland hits double in seven-goal comeback win

Erling Braut Haaland’s brace helped Borussia Dortmund come from behind three times to claim a thrilling Bundesliga victory at Bayer Leverkusen.

Haaland, who also grabbed an assist, cancelled out Florian Wirtz’s opener with a towering header and later scored the winner from the penalty spot.

In a frantic encounter, Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick and French winger Moussa Diaby scored for Leverkusen.

But goals from Haaland, Julian Brandt and Raphael Guerreiro saved Dortmund.

England midfielder Jude Bellingham had a goal ruled out for Dortmund shortly before half-time and Schick capitalised to put Leverkusen in the driving seat going into the break.

But Leverkusen’s lead lasted only minutes into the second half as Brandt controlled Haaland’s pass with his heel before firing into the roof of the net.

Six minutes later, Diaby’s long-range strike made it 3-2 to the hosts, but Guerreiro’s superb free-kick once again brought Dortmund level.

Marco Reus was eventually awarded a penalty when he was struck in the face by the arm of Odilon Kossounou and Haaland kept his cool to slot in the winner for Dortmund in the 77th minute.

Haaland can handle English football – Chelsea chief

Chelsea loan chief Tore Andre Flo has no doubts fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland can handle a move to Stamford Bridge.

Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland has been linked with a move to England and Chelsea are raising money to fund a bid after making the 21-year-old their top target.

“I don’t think he would have much problem adapting to English football,” Flo told bookmakers.co.uk.

“The culture over in England is quite similar and the way of living for someone coming from Norway would be quite easy, or at least it was for me. We all already speak the language quite well, so there should be no problem there.

“Obviously, on the pitch, it can be much tougher because it’s a very tough league, tougher than any other in the world I think.

“That is the biggest challenge for players coming from Scandinavia. But then that’s a challenge for most players coming to the Premier League from other countries.”

Haaland admits disappointment in Sancho move to Man Utd

Erling Haaland admits he’s disappointed Borussia Dortmund sold Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

Haaland, who is himself being targeted by a host of elite clubs this summer, is disappointed to see Sancho leave.

“Me and Jadon understood each other very well and he’s a top player,’ he told Stadium Astro, when asked which player could fill Sancho’s shoes.

“So of course it’s sad that he goes but that’s how it is and that’s football. You never know what will happen.

“But I think that there’s a lot of other good players that I have a good tone with and it can become even better.

“We have to see who I match the best with.”

EPL: Man Utd ready to announce Jadon Sancho signing

Manchester United aim to announce the signing of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho by the weekend.

The Manchester Evening News says Sancho has effectively completed his £72.9milliom transfer to United, with an announcement to confirm the transfer scheduled for this week.

Sancho, 21, arrived at United’s Carrington training complex on Tuesday for a medical and posed for promo shots that have become obligatory for any new signing.

England international Sancho is due to be off for three weeks following the end of the European Championship and could make his United bow at Old Trafford in their final pre-season friendly against Everton on August 7.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching staff will then have a full week of training with Sancho to prepare him for a possible official debut against Leeds on August 14.

Chelsea-linked Haaland drops Dortmund stay hint

Erling Haaland has dropped the strongest hint yet that he is to remain at Borussia Dortmund for the 2021-22 campaign after taking to social media to reveal he has begun pre-season with the club.

The Norway star enjoyed a superb sophomore season with the Bundesliga outfit last term, and amid a summer absence from Euro 2020, speculation has grown rife about his future.

A host of Premier League destinations, headed by Chelsea, have been mooted for the attacker, while Dortmund have been adamant that they will not sell him on – and now, Haaland looks to have indicated that he will be staying put for at least one more year.

The striker took to Twitter to confirm that he had started preparations for next season with Marco Rose’s side, after he was absent for the initial start of club fitness tests on Monday.

“Day one,” the 20-year-old confirmed on social media, before adding: “Ready for the journey.”

Haaland was pictured in his training gear alongside the post, sporting a double thumbs-up gesture at the club’s training ground in Brackel.

Jadon Sancho completes Man Utd medical

Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho has completed his medical ahead of the completion of his £73m move to Manchester United.

Although the 21-year-old has not been pictured arriving at the club’s Carrington training base, a blacked out van arrived there on Tuesday amid suggestions Sancho is putting the finishing touches on his highly anticipated move, says the Daily Mail.

After completing the medical, Sancho is expected to go on holiday and rest up but he will only have three weeks off before joining up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

United’s Premier League season kicks off on August 14, when they host Leeds at Old Trafford.

Sancho, 21, leaves Dortmund with 50 goals in 137 matches for the German outfit, providing 64 assists as well.

  • Tuchel sets Dortmund deadline to accept Haaland offer

Tuchel sets Dortmund deadline to accept Haaland offer

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has pushed Borussia Dortmund and Erling Haaland with a deadline to get a deal done.

Football.London says Chelsea were believed to be one of the frontrunners to sign the 20-year-old with reports claiming the club had already agreed personal terms with the striker.

But Tuchel is eager to get the deal over the line sooner rather than later ahead of the new season.

Tuchel has set a deadline to help put pressure on Dortmund to cash in.

The Bundesliga club are desperate to hold on to their talisman for one more year, especially after letting Jadon Sancho join Manchester United.

It is understood Dortmund have set a £150m price tag on the forward, but the Blues see an offer of £135m more preferable.

Borussia Dortmund demand €200m fee for Haaland

Borussia Dortmund are determined not to lose Erling Haaland this summer.

AS says Dortmund are reported to have doubled down on their attempts to keep Erling Haaland at the club by placing a €200m asking price on their star striker.

Haaland has emerged as one of the most wanted players in the world after taking his game to the next level at the Signal Iduna Park.

Now, Dortmund are keen to deter the rapidly rising interest of Premier League giants Manchester United, City and Chelsea – along with LaLiga royalty Real Madrid.

The interest of Manchester rivals City and United is already known, with both clubs in the market for an elite level centre forward.

Haaland to become first ever £1 million-a-week player

Super agent Mino Raiola is positioning Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland to become the game’s first £1 million-a-week player.

The Mirror says Raiola holds grand plans of brokering an eye-watering amount for his client through a sensational overall package.

With a huge basic salary in store, image rights, digital opportunities and commercial deals have all been earmarked in the report as ways of reaching the target.

Raiola’s demands are said to likely rule out the majority of clubs embroiled in the dogfight to sign Haaland except for a handful with enviable finances.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and PSG have all been identified as the only suitors who would be able to stump up the cash.

Real Madrid and Barcelona, which held talks with Raiola and Haaland’s father a fortnight ago, have been left ‘shocked’ after being told about his proposal for one of the world’s finest young talents.

City, as well as Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, are also believed to be in the chase to secure Haaland’s signature.

  • We should have scored more, says De Bruyne after Dortmund win

We should have scored more, says De Bruyne after Dortmund win

Manchester City Kevin De Bruyne admitted his side should have scored more after securing a narrow 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

De Bruyne opened the scoring in the first half before Marco Reus grabbed a vital away goal for Dortmund with his 84th-minute strike.

Phil Foden bagged a crucial late winner in the 90th minute, but City still have plenty of work to do in the quarter-final second leg next week.

“We saw the way they played,” De Bruyne told BT Sport. “They played really well with the ball. It causes some problems sometimes. I think in the first half we had a little bit of difficulty finding the chances but in the second half we created a few.

“We probably should have scored a little bit more but obviously when they came back to 1-1, that was a little shame but it happens. I think the reaction was really good so to get the win is good. We know 2-1 is a tricky score but at least we are ahead for the second leg.”

City head coach Pep Guardiola added: “Dortmund are strong, a good quality with the players they have and the quality it is difficult to do what we want to do, but 2-1 and we have a good chance next week.

“We are going to watch the game. We will adjust a few things to go there and try to win the game. Next is Leeds and then we go to Germany to try and win the game.

“Borussia Dortmund is a typical club from the Champions League. We have one more game there and with the result 2-1 we will try to score the goals there to win.”
