May Day: PDP chieftain seeks improved welfare package for workers

Prince Dotun Babayemi, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun, has called for improved welfare package for workers to motivate them to perform optimally.

Babayemi made the call in Osogbo on Sunday in a solidarity message to Nigerian workers as they celebrate this year’s workers’ day.

He equally called on government to put in place enduring mechanisms that would make life more bearable for the Nigerian workers before their retirement.

Babayemi, a former PDP governorship aspirant in the state, canvassed for a more attractive working conditions that would stimulate economic growth and discourage brain drain.

He urged government to put in place permanent solution to the recurring issue of non-payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees.

“Government should provide enhanced packages to the workers that will go beyond the monthly salaries.

”It is wickedness to owe salaries and equally ungodly not to pay pensioners their entitlements as and when due. It is sheer wickedness.

“Our workers and retirees deserve to be treated fairly by the system by putting in place and in concrete terms too, policies and programmes that will make life meaningful and enduring for them during and after service,” he said.

Babayemi noted that the prompt payment of serving and retired workers would stem the prevalent greed and corruption entrenched in the system.

According to him, if the government can sincerely see to workers’ welfare by not focusing on salary increase alone, the factors which normally engineer corruption would be reduced.

Babayemi urged the government to do more in terms of improving the welfare of workers to extract dedication from them.

He also called on workers at all levels to rededicate themselves to work in order to bring about the needed transformation in all sectors of the country’s economy.

Osun: PDP warns aspirant to stop legal action against Adeleke

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned Prince Dotun Babayemi to stop further legal action against the  Governor-elect,  Sen. Ademola Adeleke, in the overall interest of the party.

Recall that Babayemi contested in the PDP primary in Osun that produced Adeleke as its candidate for the July 16 election.

Adeleke later in the governorship election defeated the incumbent, Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.

The warning is contained in a statement signed by the caretaker Chairman of the PDP in Osun, Dr Akindele Adekunle, on Sunday in Osogbo.

The party, in the statement, specifically frowned at “apparent attempt by the former aspirant to become a tool of the APC to truncate the overwhelming victory of PDP at the governorship poll’’.

It described as worrisome Babayemi’s refusal to listen to calls by elders of his group who urged him to discontinue legal challenge of the PDP primary in Osun.

“While the aspirant had filed several cases and failed to upturn due process decision of the party, the party noted that the last ruling of the Court of Appeal should put paid to further litigation on the primary.

“Any decision to pursue the issue further will smack of open anti-party activity and a direct disrespect for the people of Osun state who voted massively for Sen. Ademola Adeleke,’’ it said.

The party described as a very dangerous and self-destructive dimension the alleged collaboration between Babayemi and the APC to continue the case, affirming that such evil alliance would end in further legal defeat.

“From the beginning of the litigation to date, it was obvious the aspirant was only holding unto straws as the primary that produced Sen. Adeleke fulfilled all extant regulations and legal requirements in line with the Electoral Act among others,” the statement read in part.

The PDP in Osun had on March 8 held two parallel governorship primary elections in the state.

In one of the primaries held at the Osogbo City Stadium, under the supervision of Deputy Governor of Bayelsa, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, as Chairman, Sen. Ademola Adeleke was declared the winner.

However, the other primary held at the Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation (WOCDIF) Centre, Osogbo, produced Prince Dotun Babayemi as the winner.

In a list of candidates later released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke emerged as the flag bearer of the PDP.

Babayemi, however, approached the Federal High Court, Osogbo, challenging the PDP’s nomination and submission of Adeleke’s name to INEC and the validity of the governorship primary conducted at the stadium.

The case was, however, dismissed at the Federal High Court Osogbo, as well as the Appeal Court in Akure.

Adeleke later won the governorship election on July 16 with 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the APC, who scored 375,027 votes.

But in a swift reaction, the Babayemi Campaign Organisation said that the redress being sought at the law court was not to truncate the victory of PDP at the recently concluded governorship election, but rather to ensure it translates to good governance.

The campaign organisation in a statement signed by its Director, Oladiran Ojedele, said that Babayemi was out for justice with a view to claiming his mandate.

It said  “having explored all internal mechanisms of the party to no avail, the option left as spelt by the party’s constitution is to seek justice through the judiciary.

“Our symbol, Prince Dotun Babayemi, is not seeking to truncate PDP’s victory, but he’s out for justice, seeking to claim his mandate at the law court.

“Is such lawful trajectory out of place? For all those who are now crying wolf, what genuine efforts did they make to ensure the PDP is not exposed to litigation?

“At this point, we want to assure everyone that Prince Dotun Babayemi is a genuine and bonafide member of the PDP who will not, for any price, submerge the wishes of the people.

“He has never pretended on his resolve to always be with and for them”.

Osun Guber 2022: Adeleke, Babayemi in reconciliation meeting

Ahead of the July 16 gubernatorial election in Osun state Dotun Babayemi, the factional gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has settled his rift with Senator Ademola Adeleke.

TheNewsGuru.com recalls that INEC released the names of party’s guber contestants and it picked Ademola Adeleke as PDP’s party bearer in the state.

This didn’t sit down well with Dotun Babayemi who filed a case in court challenging the candidature of Senator Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement made available by Olawale Rasheed on behalf of Senator Adeleke after the peace meeting held on Sunday, it was revealed that the move was in line with Adeleke’s philosophy of brotherhood and partnership for all in the interest of the Osun people.

The meeting which was brokered by the national leadership of the party, was aimed at seeking a united front for the PDP to ensure a landslide victoryat the polls.

Adeleke who declared that he was in support of inclusive efforts geared towards electoral victory for the party stressed that defeating the APC was the most important task before all the party leaders.

In his words, “I support an all-inclusive effort towards electoral victory.

“To this end, I welcome my colleagues who may be aggrieved for one reason or the other. As I always reiterated, we are not enemies but the same political family with a common political enemy. Defeating the APC is therefore the most important task before all leaders of PDP for now.

“As our national chairman always noted, Osun is a gateway to PDP victory at 2023. Our victory in Osun is the much-needed energy for the party to win national elections. We are therefore calling on all our leaders to forget the bickering of the past and join hands to record success in July.”

Meanwhile, Kayode Oladeji, the Media Director for the Babayemi Campaign Organisation disclosed that the meeting had nothing to do with the disagreement over the gubernatorial primary of the party.

But when contacted for more clarification on the meeting, the Director of Media, Omooba Dotun Babayemi Campaign Organisation, Kayode Oladeji, said the meeting had nothing to do with the disagreement over the governorship primary of the party.

Oladeji posited that the meeting was for the party to work in unison inorder to get a favourable result at the polls.

According to him, “The committee met with the two factions over the forthcoming presidential primary.

“There is a delegate election coming up on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for the presidential primary. The meeting agreed on the national delegates. The two groups divided the Osun slots, instead of going for primary they have both agreed.

He denied that his principal had stepped down, adding that the court will decide in due course who the authentic flag bearer would be.

Despite INEC recognition of Adeleke, Dotun Bayemi still lay claim to be the authentic winner of the PDP’s ticket

Also, Adeleke despite the INEC recognition has been facing court suits instituted to challenge his candidature.

However, the court will give its verdict before the July 16th gubernatorial election in Osun state.
