INEC presents certificate of return to Bayelsa Gov, Deputy

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Friday, presented the Certificate Of Return to winner of the November 11 off-cycle governorship election in Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, and his running mate, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Governor Diri and his deputy, Ewhrudjakpo, were the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election that had 15 other contestants.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, said the INEC National Commissioner for Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers states, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, presented the certificate to the duo at 11:11am at the state headquarters of the commission in Yenagoa.

Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu said presenting the Certificate of Return by the commission was a statutory provision in fulfilment of section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which also stated that the presentation must be done within 14 days following the declaration of a winner.

She thanked stakeholders for their commitment and contributions toward the peaceful conduct of the election and equally appreciated staff of the commission who displayed exceptional level of dedication to their job.

On behalf of INEC, she also congratulated the governor and his deputy over their victory at the poll and wished them a successful second tenure in office.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Diri said the event puts to rest the speculation that INEC would not present the certificate to him just as he commended the commission for its professionalism and impartiality during and after the election.

Diri said it was an historic moment for him, his deputy and Bayelsans, who he appreciated for standing behind him and his running mate, bearing in mind the antics of the opposition that brandished cooked results against their will.

The state’s helmsman said it was unfortunate hearing the opposition, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, alleging that INEC cancelled 85,000 of the party’s vote as well as manipulation by the commission.

He stressed that his party would wait for them at the tribunal.

Diri said: “Presenting the certificate of return was almost becoming another issue as some were brandishing results of 85,000 votes in their pockets and saying that the certificate would not be issued to those declared winners in Bayelsa State. So, this event has brought to rest all those speculations that have been all over the country.

“After thanking God for today’s event, I also thank the Independent National Electoral Commission, from the chairman to the supervising commissioner to the REC and the administrative secretary as well as all the staff.

“This is one historic moment for me, my deputy governor and the people of Bayelsa State. I lappreciate the electorate for standing behind what they believe was a government that has performed and must have another term.”

Responding to questions from journalists at the INEC premises, Diri assured that he will be a servant-leader to the people as well as his deputy and other members of his cabinet.

The governor asserted that if the election had gone the other way, it would have portended danger for the state, describing his victory as freedom for Bayelsa.

According to him, “Bayelsans know that we are a government of the people that wants all Bayelsans on board and also ensure transparency as much as possible, so that whatever we are spending, it is in the interest of Bayelsa State.“

Also present at the ceremony were the wife of the governor, Dr. Gloria Diri, wife of the deputy governor, Mrs. Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, chairman of the state PDP, Mr. Solomon Agwana, members of the House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei and other top government functionaries.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, on Monday, Oborevwori described the re-election of Diri as “the reward for Diri’s humility, hardwork and good governance” and commended the people of Bayelsa for standing by their Governor when it mattered most.

He stated that the electorate across the eight Local Government Areas of the State spoke loudly and very clearly in their affirmation of their choice of Diri as Governor of the “Glory of all lands”.

Oborevwori noted that the re-election of Diri had signposted the reality of PDP’s determination to entrench prosperity in the oil rich State, saying “better days await Bayelsans.

“Let me congratulate my brother, Senator Douye Diri, on his victory in the November 11 Governorship election in Bayelsa State.

“It is heart-warming to see you re-elected as Governor of Bayelsa against all odds and I am grateful to the electorate in Bayelsa for shunning entreaties of the opposition, who were ostensibly determined to subvert the wishes of the people.

The Governor also congratulated the PDP and the Chairman of the its National Campaign Council for Bayelsa Governorship Election and Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas and other members of the Council for their efforts, which culminated to the victory.

“I join you and Bayelsans in praying that God grant you wisdom, knowledge and the needed resources to keep your campaign promises of making Bayelsa State indeed the glory of all lands,” he added.

Bayelsa West stakeholders affirm Diri for second term

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri and his Deputy, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, were on Thursday received by the stakeholders of Bayelsa West, led by the former governor, Sen. Seriake Dickson, at Toru-Orua, in Sagbama Local Government Area.

The governor who was first received and blessed by the King of Tarakiri, HRM Seiyefa Koroye at his palace, before being treated to a rousing welcome and fun fare by the people of the Senatorial District led by the former governor, was overwhelmed by the show of love and solidarity from the people.

“The coast is now clear for the Governor and his running mate to win this election”, Senator Dickson stated.

He noted that the governor and his deputy have done well, and deserve re-election and that there is no other worthy opponent for the overqualified duo of Diri/Law.

  • Bayelsa guber: I’m simply fighting Sylva’s character, not APC – Diri confesses

Bayelsa guber: I’m simply fighting Sylva’s character, not APC – Diri confesses

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, restates that he is not fighting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party, saying he is against the character of the party’s candidate in next month’s governorship election, Timipre Sylva.

The governor’s comments came to fore after Monday’s Federal High Court ruling that Sylva, having been sworn in twice and served five years as governor of the state, would breach the 1999 constitution as amended if allowed to contest again.

Diri, seeking re-election as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, stressed his position on Tuesday while canvassing for votes in the Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

Alleging that the APC standard bearer was a serial deceiver, the governor urged the electorate to vote for the PDP on November 11.

Over three days, Diri has toured Ogbia LGA, visiting several communities in the council, where supporters have greeted him in their numbers.

At the Otuasega and Kolo communities, the people appreciated him for keeping his developmental promises made to them.

The traditional rulers also gave the governor and the PDP campaign organisation their blessings as prominent politicians from the council urged their constituents to vote for the party.

Diri described next month’s election as a battle between light and darkness, while listing instances of the APC governorship candidate allegedly deceiving him personally and the people of Bayelsa State.

  • Bayelsa guber: Gov Diri accused of plot to manipulate poll

Bayelsa guber: Gov Diri accused of plot to manipulate poll

A group known as Bayelsa Arise has raised concerns over an alleged plot by Gov. Douye Diri to manipulate the governorship election in his favour.

Diri is seeking reelection in the Bayelsa governorship poll billed for Nov. 11.

In a statement by Ebitimi Lucky, Publicity Secretary, Bayelsa Arise, the group alleged that Diri was behind litigation to stop his main challenger in this election, Chief Timipre Sylva, from the race.

“As a group, that is deeply concerned for the democratic process and the integrity of our electoral system, the Bayelsa Arise wishes to state, that we have been closely monitoring the political developments in Bayelsa leading up to the upcoming governorship election.

“We believe it is our duty to voice our concerns on issues that may undermine the credibility of the election.

“Bayelsa Arise is deeply troubled by the apparent lack of preparedness being demonstrated by the incumbent governor and his administration in the run-up to the forthcoming election.

“The governor and his party, despite their growing unpopularity, have practically abandoned the state, while busy chasing audience with political bigwigs in Abuja and other places across the country.

According to the group, as  we speak, our state’s infrastructure remains in disrepair, and there are serious concerns about the ability of security agencies to maintain law and order  in our state.

“Recall, that in 2019, Diri lost his governorship aspiration to the then candidate of the APC, Mr David Lyon, until the judgment that  controversially brought him as governor.

“Therefore, we are deeply concerned about the current moves  on the part of the governor  and his team to secure another illegal court order through illegal means aimed at stopping the candidacy of Sylva,”  the Bayelsa Arise stated.

Bayelsa Arise called on stakeholders, including political parties to ensure that the forthcoming election is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

“We urge  Diri to prepare himself and his party, for a keen contest in the forthcoming election, as, we , the people of Bayelsa , will no longer allow anyone not elected by our people, to be imposed on us.

“We  reaffirm our commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and accountability in Bayelsa. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and work tirelessly to ensure that the forthcoming election is a true reflection of the will of the people,” it stated.

Recall that Mr Daniel Alabrah, Chief Press Secretary to Diri  on Wednesday in a statement,  claimed that  Sylva, the APC candidate was unsellable as he was fielding an ineligible deputy who was  facing litigation.

Alabrah alleged that Sylva’s deputy had criminal records.

Sylva’s deputy governorship candidate, Joshua Machiver was dragged to the Federal High Court, Yenagoa by one of the aspirants who lost the APC’s ticket during the party’s primaries.

  • Bayelsa Govt announces wage awards for workers

Bayelsa Govt announces wage awards for workers

Bayelsa Government has assured that it would kickstart the payment of wage awards to all local government employees, with effect from August, to cushion the excruciating effects of fuel subsidy removal on the workers.

The state Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, gave the assurance on Monday at a meeting with Local Government Stakeholders, including the Eight Caretaker Committee Chairmen, labour leaders and principal officers of the Local Government Areas (LGAs) at Government House, Yenagoa.

He announced that the state government, in collaboration with the local government councils, would also ensure the payment of gratuities to councils’ retirees who were yet to benefit.

He informed that government had approved 30% payment of the gratuities across board for the retirees, which would also take effect from August.

On the wage awards, the deputy Governor said council workers on grade levels one to six will now earn N20,000 as additional salary, grade levels seven to 10, N30,000, while those on grade levels 12 to 14 will now have N40,000 added to their salaries.

He added that government had also approved N50,000 as wage awards to council employees on grade level 15 to 17, while Heads of Local Governments will earn N100,000 as additional salary.

He said: “While waiting for the reliefs from the Federal Government, we are proposing a wage award for local government employees.

“The Governor has given anticipatory approval but I believe he will give the final approval this week. And we will start implementing the approval.

“That is why I have always encouraged local government workers to be patient with us. We are aware of your sufferings and the state government will not hesitate to intervene.

“On gratuities, we have also made some proposal, which we want the local governments to support us. The proposal is that, we should pay 30 per cent across board to all those who have retired from wherever the payment stopped to 2022 and one month in 2023.

“Our plan is for every local government retiree to get something at the end of this month (August). The Governor has already approved this. We are only going to raise a committee to supervise the payment because we still have some grey areas to address,” he said.

Ewhrudjakpo, who commended local government workers and retirees for their understanding and patience, assured that the Prosperity Administration would continue to take steps to address issues concerning their welfare.

On the ongoing data capturing exercise for the computerization of staff on the Oracle Payroll System, the deputy governor appealed to the workers’ union at the local government level to be a little bit patient with government to test run the software and make necessary corrections before full take-off.

Responding to questions raised by some of the stakeholders, the Bayelsa Number Two Man assured that approval would be given for the conduct of the 2023 senior staff promotion exercise, due in 2023, to bring them at par with their state counterparts.

  • Freedom Online Lecture: Uzodinma, Diri, Bode George, others advocate for constitution review, good governance

Freedom Online Lecture: Uzodinma, Diri, Bode George, others advocate for constitution review, good governance

Top government dignitaries, political figures and eminent Nigerians made significant contributions at the 5th public lecture of the Freedom Online Newspapers.

Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma; his Bayelsa Bayelsa State counterpart, Douye Diri; former Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George; Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, amongst many others emphasized the need for a new constitution that would reflect the wishes,  aspirations and yearnings of Nigerians.

They stressed the fact that the people of the country deserve a working constitution and government policies suitable for the current day’s needs.

Tagged: “2023- 2027: Nigerians Elected Leaders and Expectations,” stressing that further reliance on the 1999 Constitution as a solution to Nigeria’s problems was a waste of time that would spell doom for the country.

The event was held at the Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja Lagos on Tuesday, July 19th, 2023.

All the speakers also used the occasion to demand the establishment of a State Police, saying such key and crucial if Nigeria was determined to end the problem of insecurity it was currently facing.

In his welcome address, the Publisher of Freedom Online, Mr Gabriel Akinadewo, spoke on the need for Nigeria to review its constitution that would reflect the wishes and aspirations of the citizens, saying the country cannot have a breakthrough with what’s presently obtainable.

He added that the Federal Government can’t continue to use the federal measure to tackle local challenges, recalling quickly that such was not the situation in First Republic.

“In the first Republic because of the constitution operated, the centre was less attractive. We should make the centre less attractive like we have it in America. Nigerians want State Police between now and 2027. The world is moving forward, we can’t afford to be stagnant,” he said.

Keynote speaker, the Imo State governor, Hope Uzodima, ably represented by his Commissioner for Information, Declam Emelumba, said the expectations of every Nigerian was good governance, adding that they were increasingly demanding it.

The governor, however, said the lapses in the 1999 Constitution prevent the state governments from performing up to expectations, noting that the large size of the country made governance difficult as the centre had been one deciding affairs of the states in areas of policing and other issues that should be the exclusive responsibility of the states.

He noted that the common language Nigerians understood perfectly by all Nigerians regardless of the tribe or language is good governance, stating that good governance reduces to the barest minimum poverty, unemployment, and insecurity.

He posted that with good governance, there would be an economic boom, abundant empowerment opportunities, good healthcare delivery, good quality and affordable education, abundant infrastructure provisions and security of lives and property, adding that with all these in place, Nigerians would boast of an improved quality of life and a higher average life expectancy.

“This is a common language that does not need to be spoken but yet can be heard clearly. Once Nigerians see these, they will know the country is working and that their expectations are being met.

“So what Nigerians expect is for the country to work. That is what they need and that is what they desire,” the governor said.

“This makes our task very easy. All we need to do is to list those things that make up good governance, those things that will make the country work, and we have the expectations of Nigerians from elected leaders for the period 2023 to 2027.

“As I said earlier, these expectations are not farfetched. They are the same things Nigerians have been clamouring since Independence 63years ago,” he added.

“So, yes, I can hazard the guess that the expectations of good governance between 2023 and 2027, will be reasonably met. I expect that Nigerians will have less poverty, insecurity and unemployment to deal with in the next four years,” Uzodimma assured.

Another speaker, the Bayelsa State governor, Diri, ably represented by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Daniel Alabrah, said the inability of state government to control their resources had created set back for many states, stressing that if the state were empowered like the regions to control their resources in the First Republic, a lot of advancement would have been recorded in the states.

He added that for Nigeria to rise to the great height envisaged by her founding fathers, she needed to come up with a constitution that would empower the state to control its resources.

While discussing the upcoming November off-season elections, he emphasized the importance of platforms like the Freedom Online Lectures in facilitating conversations that enable candidates to present their policies and track records to voters, encouraging them to make informed choices and reject electoral malpractice and violence.

“I think it is important that the media continues to instigate more of these conversations so that elected leaders will be accountable to voters. That is why I am pleased to be here today,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Olabode George, lamented the poor leadership in the country, noting that a stop be put to the present deceit and rottenness in the financial management of the nation, adding.

“Let us put an end to the economic inequalities, injustice, and unfairness in the distribution of our God-given resources and our financial wealth.”

George, who is also the Atona Oodua of Yoruba land used bible passages and scriptures to analyze his positions.

He likened Nigeria’s current situation to that of then Judah as told by Prophet Micah, a contemporary of Prophet Isaiah in his prophecy, condemned a situation whereby a sitting senator collects N23million monthly and a retired Federal Permanent Secretary collects N1million per month, while a retired General collects N250,000 as pension per month, describing such as despicable, shambolic nonsensical and outright systemic failure.

The PDP chieftain, made it known that he was talking as an elder statesman and not taking his positions from the angle of any political party.

“not talking as a member of any political party but as an elder statesman who seeks the peace and progress of Nigeria,”

The Lagos-born politician equally condemned the planned palliatives to be distributed by the Tinubu- led administration, demanding that a quick reminder of the N500billion previously collected monthly and supposedly distributed without data and accountability under the immediate past administration headed by former President Muhammadu Buhari called for an in-depth investigation and punishment.

“Enough of this deceit: Enough of this rottenness in the financial management of our Nation.

“Let us put an end to the economic inequalities, injustice, and unfairness in the distribution of our God-given resources and our financial wealth.

“A situation where a sitting Senator collects N23m every month, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary collects N1m per month and a retired General collect N250k as pension per month is a despicable, shambolic nonsensical and outright systemic failure.

“How will the palliatives be distributed? A quick reminder of the N500 billion previously collected monthly and supposedly distributed without data and accountability calls for in-depth investigation and punishment,” he said.

Chief George said he wept for Nigeria, but quickly prayed to God to forgive the nation’s leaders’ transgressions and direct their minds “in ensuring a good life to all our people in Nigeria,” expressing the belief that the country would rise again if like Prophet Micah said “we put the fear of God before all human endeavours.

“May God forgive our transgressions and direct the minds of our political leaders in ensuring a good life for all our people in Nigeria.

“I weep for my Country Nigeria but as Prophet Micah said, our Nation will rise again if we put the fear of God before all human endeavours.”Nigeria will rise again. We will rise again. In Jesus’ Name. Amen,” he prayed.

Continuing, George also condemned the 1999 Constitution now in use, describing the document as military compliance, which he said would not take Nigeria out of her present situation.

He charged Nigerians to come up with a new constitution that would state the best way to govern the country, pointing out that leaving the Federal Government with enormous powers of deciding for the entire country would not work, as he noted that every state of the federation was blessed with enough resources to take good care of itself.

Also speaking, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, said it was high time the government told the home truth that Nigerians were suffering across the board and without exception, occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

According to the Yoruba generalissimo, who was represented by Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, the price of litres of petrol or diesel to fuel one’s vehicle on a weekly basis is now very exorbitant, saying that the country’s currency was now becoming valueless, but quickly prayed that it would not become ordinary paper.

“The government must come in quickly to address the matter. I pray that Nigerians would not be back on the streets again,” he prayed.

Adams equally reiterated his call on the need to revisit the reviewed 1999 Constitution, just as he charged the Federal Government to tackle the insecurity ravaging the nation to avoid the country being turned to shred.

Chief Tola Adeniyi, former Managing Director of Daily Times, in his short remark, declared pointedly that Nigerian politicians lacked the integrity to make any positive impact on the country, saying based on that “you cannot expect any posterity in Nigeria.”

On the State Police, Chief Adeniyi said it was a dream that would not come to pass, alleging that the present structure had become a cash cow for those who were feeding fat on it.

” To expect anything from Nigerian politicians is to be postponing the doomsday. I don’t see how an Okiro will police Akure. Nigeria Police is the cash cow of those who held Nigeria down. I don’t expect anything from those who have nothing to give”, he said.

Also in his remark, a former military administrator, Navy Captain Omoniyi Olubolade rated said for a country to move forward, it should not be an island to itself, adding that there should be a constitution that would address the challenges of its citizens and as well tackle the issue of insecurity. Benson Enikuomehin, an Abuja-based lawyer, made a passionate pleas to the Ondo state government and President Bola Tinubu to come to the aid of his Ilaje people of Ondo south senatorial district, to avert a looming disaster that perenial flood may wreck on them.

Enukuomehin who contended that the Ilaje area gave the Ondo state its oil-producing status, maintains that something must be done urgently before they are wiped off.

Present at the lecture were, The President, of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba; Mr Richard Akinnola, Mr. Bola Bolawole, former Managing Director of Punch Newspaper, Mr Lanre Arogundade, Ogbeni Lanre Banjo and a host of eminent journalists, among others.

Bayelsa guber: PDP clears Gov. Diri for primary election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cleared Gov. Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State to contest the party’s primary election for the Nov. 11 state governorship polls.

The Chairman, PDP Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Screening Committee, Mr Philip Shuaibu, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen after the screening exercise at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Shuaibu, who is the Deputy Governor of Edo State, said Diri, the sole aspirant, was cleared by the committee because there was no encumbrance found in all the documents he tendered.

“We have checked Diri’s documents and we have interviewed him. And he is worthy to contest the election.

“Ordinarily as the incumbent and having been senator, there shouldn’t be any issues with his documents, but we didn’t rely on that.

“In line with the electoral law, we still did our job. And we are glad to inform you that he is qualified to contest.

“He has done well in Bayelsa State. And we are sure you will do well and consolidate the good work you have started,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee had presented certificate of clearance to Diri, who is the only aspirant contesting for the party’s ticket.

Fielding questions from journalists after receiving his certificate, Diri expressed confidence that he would win the state election scheduled for Nov. 11.

He said that his achievements in office and those of PDP would speak for him.

“In terms of development, both infrastructure and human, the records are also there that will speak for our government.

“Because we want to continue with the peace and security of our state, with the already recorded human and infrastructural development of our state, we believe that the only way for us to stabilise our state is to continue and go for a second term.

“This is important, so that we will also hand over to others who will continue with the current peace and security that we enjoy in that state or the current level of human and infrastructural development.”

Diri said that Bayelsa was not only a PDP state, but the government had done a lot in terms of completing many projects the previous administration started.

“As a matter of fact, they call me the completion Governor. We are completing most of the projects that were embarked upon by the previous administration and adding new projects to them.

“ I’m very sure that if you interact with those who live in Bayelsa, you will have every acknowledgment as to why this government has shared prosperity as to come on for re-election”, he said.

Diri said  that PDP was firmly on ground in Bayelsa State, which was demonstrated in the just concluded general elections, where the party won all the three senatorial seats in the state.

“We also won four House of Representatives out of five for PDP. So, we are talking about 100 over 100 for PDP

“Also during last Saturday’s State House of Assembly elections, PDP won 20 out of the 24 seats available, while others won four.

“The PDP Is a formidable party in Bayelsa State. A lot of people who left us leading to the 2019 general elections are back to the party.”

  • Governorship: David Lyon picks APC form for Bayelsa

Governorship: David Lyon picks APC form for Bayelsa

Mr David Lyon, a former Bayelsa Governor-elect, has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms at the cost of N50 million to re-contest the governorship election.

Mr Marlin Danier led other Bayelsa APC stakeholders to the party’s national secretariat on Friday in Abuja to pick up the forms on Lyon’s behalf.

Danier, who was the pioneer Secretary of APC Bayelsa chapter, urged the party’s leadership to grant him the right of first refusal.

This, he said, should be in appreciation of Lyon’s past success at the poll in 2020 before he was eventually sacked by the Supreme Court.

The apex court, in a unanimous judgement by a five-man panel of Justices led by Justice Mary Odili, held that Degi-Eremieoyo, Lyon’s running mate, presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The judgment followed an appeal filed by Douye Diri, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) governorship candidate and his running mate, Lawrence Ewhruojakpo.

Danier said it was unfortunate that Lyon  was denied the opportunity of rescuing the state as its governor.

“Today we are presenting our principal, Chief David Lyon, a household name in Bayelsa and this country, a young man that gallantly fought a very colossus governor and won.

“Today we are back here to get the APC expression of interest and nomination forms for him to go back and recontest the coming state governorship election.

“Ordinarily, and under normal circumstances, he is supposed to be given the right of first refusal by the party. Sales of forms are not supposed to be made open,” he said.

This, according to Danier, is especially because Lyon is the only person that can win Bayelsa governorship election for the APC, adding that he had been tested, tried and trusted.

“As I talk to you, everyday, the PDP-led administration in Bayelsa is inviting pastors and Imams from different quarters to pray that David Lyon will not become APC governorship candidate.

“He is their nightmare, they are comfortable with every other person, but not with Lyon.

“I can confidently and categorically tell the world that if David Lyon is given the APC governorship ticket to represent it in the election, more than half of PDP members will come back to the APC,” he said.

He urged APC national leadership to ensure a level playing ground for all contestants should there be other contestants to avoid going to court after the primary.

Also speaking, Dr Stella Dorgu, Member, House of Representatives 7th Assembly assured that with Lyon on the ballot, APC would win Bayelsa.

She, however, said there was need for rigorous campaign by all the party’s members in the state.

“He is the one we know that will bring the trajectory of development to where every Bayelsa residence wants it to be,” she said.

Mr Indutimi Komonibo, First Minority Leader Bayelsa House of Assembly, said Lyon would change the narrative for good in Bayelsa if elected as governor.
