BREAKING! MKO Abiola’s widow, Doyin is dead

Nigeria has lost one of its most iconic media figures, Dr. Doyin Abiola, who died on Tuesday night at the age of 81.
Sources close to the family confirmed that she passed away at exactly 9:15 p.m. after a period of illness.

Dr. Abiola, the widow of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election was a trailblazer in Nigerian journalism and media leadership. She made history as the first Nigerian woman to become editor-in-chief and managing director of a daily newspaper in the country.

Born in 1944, Doyin Abiola studied English and Drama at the University of Ibadan and graduated in 1969. Her journalism career began at the Daily Sketch, where she launched a widely read column, Tiro, focusing on social and gender issues.

In 1970, she left for the United States to pursue a Master’s degree in Journalism. On her return to Nigeria, she joined the Daily Times as a Features Writer and rose to the position of Group Features Editor. Determined to deepen her academic and professional capacity, she returned to the U.S. and obtained a PhD in Communications and Political Science from New York University in 1979.

Her return to Nigeria saw her join the editorial board of Daily Times, working alongside notable names like Dele Giwa, Stanley Macebuh, and Amma Ogan. But soon after, she was invited to become the pioneer editor of the newly established National Concord, founded by her future husband, Chief MKO Abiola.

By 1986, she had climbed to the position of Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of National Concord, marking another historic milestone as the first woman in Nigeria to hold such a role in the daily newspaper industry.

Her influence in the media sector spanned over three decades, during which she mentored generations of journalists and contributed significantly to the evolution of the Nigerian press.

Married to MKO Abiola in 1981, she stood firmly by him through the turbulent years that followed the annulment of the 1993 election. Despite the political storm that engulfed their family and the Concord group, Doyin Abiola remained a pillar of strength both at home and within the newsroom.

Dr. Doyin Abiola also served in various national and industry roles, offering her expertise and voice to the advancement of journalism and women’s representation in Nigeria.

Not everything is how you really are, but they’ve given everybody an impression of you, and some of those impressions are not true. Doyin sends strong message to Ladies

Ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Doyinsola David, popularly known as Doyin, has advised ladies not to marry without having a source of income.

According to the controversial reality TV star, the biggest mistake a young woman can make is to depend entirely on a man, stressing that their primary focus should be to attain financial freedom.

Doyin stated this in a social media post while agreeing with Linda Ikeji’s comment about the need for women to make their own money.

    In her words:

“The biggest mistake you can make as a young lady is depending completely on a man. Attaining independence should be the first thing on your mind….before love, marriage or kids. MONEY FIRST!

If you don’t have your own money, a reasonable amount of money saved up. You’re NOT ready for marriage and most definitely NOT ready to have kids. You need your own money!!

Even when you have your money sef, after marriage just have one child first and watch what type of father he is before you start giving birth like a chicken. Only have the number of kids you know you can afford to cater for on your own. Life happens!

Don’t ever believe that lie of divorce is not an option because it is! We don’t pray for it but life happens. There is no better back up plan than having your own money! Not your husband’s money, YOUR OWN MONEY!”

The reality Tv star during a recent interview with Lynda, disclosed that she returned to the All-Stars show, because her first run in the show, the Level Up season, wasn’t her best.

She said, “My first run wasn’t my best run, to be honest. I have been on the show twice, and I came out of the show, and I hated it. I was fake. I came out with the narrative that Doyin is too mature. She is always trying to talk things out; that’s not really me oo. In real life, I fight.

“I am not a content creator.

“Influencers are people who try to sell a product to their audience. I think content creators can be influencers, but I don’t think influencers can be content creators.

“There is no bad or good brand. I had a brand that dropped me. They had signed me and paid me the money, but they called and asked for a refund, and it was because of an interview I did. And to be fair to them, I deserved to be dropped because why did I talk?”.

Why I don’t believe in ‘what God cannot do doesn’t exist’ prayer – BBNaija’s Doyin opens up

Big Brother Naija star, Doyinsola Anuoluwapo better known as Doyin has shared some unconventional thoughts on the popular ‘Hallelujah Challenge’ and ‘What God Cannot Do Does Not Exist’ prayer.

The reality TV star, in a series of Snapchat posts, argued that Nigerians prioritize prayer over action.

Emphasizing the importance of self-improvement and providing value, Doyin insisted that religious program are not the solution to the country’s problems.

According to her, “I get a lot of those hallelujah challenge and what God cannot do doesn’t exist. People keep sending them to me but I just don’t believe in that type of stuff so I never join.

“It’s not bad… I just don’t believe in it. If it were really by ‘hallelujah challenge’ and ‘what God cannot do’…..Nigeria should be one of the greatest countries by now. We spend too much time praying and shouting hallelujah instead of actually working and being actual good human beings.

“They will shout hallelujah finish and go back to cheating the next person they encounter or judging someone because the person presents themselves differently.

“To me, it’s just a complete waste of time but to each his own. If you believe in it then by all means. At the end of the day, all that should matter is having a good relationship with God and being a good human being.

“If you like, shout hallelujah from now till next year. If you don’t find ways to improve yourself and provide value….you’ll keep shouting hallelujah in hunger.”

Until a man has married you, he is not obligated to be responsible for you- Doyin advises Women

Controversial reality TV star, Doyin David has advised women to wait until marriage before putting their responsibilities on men.

The outspoken podcaster, while replying to a fan who came to seek advice after her boyfriend left her for calling him stingy believes that any act of kindness a man performs for his partner in a relationship is an act of generosity.

Doyin stressed that until a man and his partner walk down the aisle, he is not required to be responsible for a woman’s expenses.

    In her words:

“I don’t think he’s stingy because he doesn’t randomly give you money. If you have a man that gives to you when you ask then you’re lucky to have a responsible man, but he doesn’t owe you random money just because you are his girlfriend. [sic].

“Until a man has married you, he is not obligated to be responsible for you…. whatever he does is out of the generosity of his heart, but you should never feel entitled to his money.

“Don’t let the internet deceive you, it’s nice to have a man who is intentional with his generosity but it’s not your birthright. There is nothing genetically programmed in a man that makes it easier for him to make money than a woman.

“It’s not easy to make money, so no one wants to keep spending ‘randomly’. If you need random money, please get a job.”
