BREAKING: Doyin Okupe dumps Labour Party

Former Director General of Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, Doyin Okupe, has dumped the Labour Party.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Okupe resigned from the Labour Party on Monday, citing ideological reasons.

According to him, losing the 2023 presidential election makes it exceedingly difficult for him to continue to stay in the Labour Party.

In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Okupe stressed he wants to continue his political activities with liberalism, sincerity and freedom.

The letter reads: “I submit herewith my letter of resignation from the Labour Party with effect from today.

“You will recall that our flagbearer, Mr Peter Obi, myself and others left the PDP abruptly and had to look for a Special Purpose Vehicle in which to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections.

“The Labour Party, your good self, and other members of your executives provided us with this veritable platform with no burdensomeness whatsoever and for which we were extremely grateful.

“We did contest the election on the platform of the Labour Party and lost. This makes it exceedingly difficult for me to continue to stay in the Labour Party which is ideologically rooted in the left of the center.

“I have been a rightist and a Liberal Democrat all my entire life. It is therefore this ideological conflict that makes me seek an exit so that I may continue my political activities with liberalism, sincerity and freedom.

“I wish to thank you in particular and other members of the leadership of the party for the cordiality and respect accorded to me as the Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization.

“I wish you and the party success in your future endeavours. Long live the Labour Party. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your brother, friend and compatriot”.

How Peter Obi will win 2023 presidential election – Doyin Okupe

Mr Doyin Okupe, former Director General of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, has analysed how the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, will win the 2023 presidential election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Okupe dropped the analysis on Tuesday while faulting projections by ThisDay Election Center that projected the Labour Party presidential candidate to lose the election.

In his analysis, Okupe projected Mr Peter Obi to win and lead massively in the South East, including all states in the South South. In the South West, Okupe projected Peter Obi to score a minimum of 40% in Lagos.

He averred that This Day projections ignored many important electoral parameters that have operated in the polity for more than 60 years.

“I wish to say categorically and with a very high sense of responsibility and objectivity, that the projections are false, bogus and do not represent the actual situation on ground across the nation. They are essentially aimed at misinforming the public.

“Peter Obi will win and lead massively in the SE averagely (70%) including all states in the SS. In the SW, PO will score min of 40% in Lagos. 25% in Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti and Ondo. Osun 15% min. NW 40% min in Kaduna and no less than 10% of all the other 6 states mainly because of Igbo residents.

“This Day projections ignored many important electoral parameters that hv operated in our polity over more than 60yrs. Without any doubt PO will score 25% in no less than 24/25 states including Taraba, Adamawa and Gombe and will lead all the other 3 numerically. He is d candidate to beat,” Okupe stated.

TNG reports ThisDay projected 21 states for the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, where he is certain to get 25 per cent, while his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Bola Tinubu, is confident of 20 states, where he can also pull his weight.

The candidates of the Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, follow as third and fourth in that order with insignificant postings in many states to satisfy the constitutional requirement of 25 per cent of votes cast in 24 states, according to ThisDay.

According to the projections by ThisDay 2023 Election Centre, a run-off is very much likely for the 2023 presidential election.

Just In: Doyin Okupe pays N13m conviction fine for fraud

Mr. Doyin Okupe, former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday evening, paid the sum of N13 million for the 52-year jail term bagged for N240 million money laundering offence.

Justuce Ijeoma Ojukwu, in a judgment, had found Okupe guilty in 26 out of the 59 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Ojukwu had ordered that the 26 counts, which attracted 2-year jail-term each, would run concurrently, meaning, the convict would only spend two years in prison.

The judge, however, gave an option of N500, 000 in each of the counts, amounting to N13 million, which must be paid before 4:30pm (the close of work) today.

She ordered that if Okupe failed to meet the option of fine within the time frame, he should be taken to Kuje Correctional Centre to serve his prison term.

However, a check at the court at about 6pm showed that  Okupe, who is the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi, had paid the money.

It was earlier reported that the wife and son of Okupe had pleaded for leniency after he was convicted.

Mrs Omolola and Mr Adesunkanmi Okupe, while testifying to the convict’s good character, begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Omolola decsribed her husband as a good man.

“I got married to him on the 1st of May, 1991.

“My husband is a very good person. He had been a role model to myself and children with sound Christian values

“I have never found him in any allegation of this before,. I will like to appeal to the court for leniency.

“My husband has dedicated his life to serve the nation and he is not here today because he is found guilty of the offence but because of his mistake.

“I ask the court to consider his health and age which is 70 years.

“He has run his family effectively my lord,” she said.

Also, Adesunkanmi said: “I have known him for 31 years.

“He is a man of honesty and integrity with great character..

“I have a privilege of being mentored by him throughout my life time.

“He had imparted in me high value of perseverance and hard work that greatness comes by following God, unbending faith and diligence.

Besides, former Governor of old Anambra, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, and former National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Idi Farouk, had also urged the court to temper justice with mercy in Okupe’s sentencing.

The judge had, earlier, stood down proceedings for Okupe to exercise his right under Section 310 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) to call witnesses to testify about his character, before the court could proceed to pronounce sentence on the convict.

The court presided over by Justice Ojukwu, had convicted Okupe for breaching the Money Laundering Act.
