Ex-Presidential aide speaks to FG on COVID-19 after recovering from infection

One month after recovering from the dreadful Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), former presidential aide, Dr Doyin Okupe has said the government needs to treat health workers better and employ more hands and temporary staff to reach out and manage patients on self isolation and in special outpatient clinics.

Okupe, who himself and his wife were discharged after testing negative twice for the virus in May, gave the advice on Sunday, while stressing that public awareness and education about the COVID-19 pandemic need to be intensified.

“Shall we worry about COVID-19 rapidly rising figures? Yes and no! Number of affected cases is determined by the prevalence of infection in the community and the number of tests carried out. If the prevalence remains constant but number of tests carried out in the community increases then figures of affected persons definitely will increase and so also number of new cases.

“This scenario is likely to be what is happening now in this communal stage of the pandemic. Secondly the number of deaths have consistently hovered between 2 – 3% which conforms with the global average & expected fatality of the infection.

“Without gainsaying, the incidence will be on the rise. Perhaps what needs to be done is to seriously canvass for the elderly and people with existing illnesses to self impose movement limitations on themselves and take active steps to boost their immunity.

“Empirical evidence continue to confirm that within the youths, 25yrs to 40-45yrs, who constitute a clear majority of the affected persons, fatality is significantly low and recovery is very fast and high in numbers.

In some cases the course of illness is transient.

“We will need to stop admitting asymptomatic patients into isolation centres but rather treat, monitor and attend to them in Special OUT PATIENTS CLINICS.

“We then attend to more serious and co morbidity cases at our isolation centres. The obvious truth is that more and more members will catch the infections and will recover fully some with treatments others without.

“Ultimately we will develop Herd immunity and just live with this illness while we move on with our lives.

“Government need to treat health workers better. Employ more hands and temporary staffs to reach out & manage patients on self isolation and in special outpatient clinics. Public awareness & education need to be intensified.

“There is light at the end of this Tunnel,” Okupe submitted.

TESTIMONY: Doyin Okupe, diagnosed with diabetes, cancer narrates COVID-19 ‘escape’

Doyin Okupe, a former Special Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Senior Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan has shared testimony of how he survived the dreadful Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Doyin Okupe narrating how himself and his wife survived the disease, revealed his battle with hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer.

    Read Doyin Okupe’s testimony below:

    COVID19: MY TESTIMONY

Ps 24 vs 4. Though I walk thru the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear No evil.

I hv gone thru a lot In my life. I was diagnosed hypertensive at d age of 30yrs. I had cancer of the Prostrate at 56yrs. At 63 I had to hv a non invasive corrective surgery to treat Congenital Sinus Bradycardia. Now at 68yrs I was infected with covid19. I bear on me virtually all the risk factors against survival against covid19 infection. I am 68yrs old. I am hypertensive, diagnosed diabetic in oct 2019. I have sleep Apnoea. This is the story of my life. But the Bible says ” Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God delivers him from them all.”

For the reasons above I have chosen early to be close to God and build an army of Christian Soldiers around me.

In feb of this year I was restless in my spirit. I called for an appointment wt Primate Oshitelu, who is d leader of the Church of the Lord Worldwide and lives in Ogere less than 10km from my residence in Iperu.

He saw me and I told him I wanted to pray for God’s Mercy.

We never met at that close level before then. He told me to come for 3days prayers on the Mercy land. I did. On d 3rd day the ministers who prayed wt me asked me to come for 3days retreat on mount TABEORRAH. This was a special privilege cos d place is opened to public only once a year. I went. I told God privately that I had come to seek His face, ask for Mercy and seek refuge in a Secret place in His Holy Terbanacle. On d 3rd day when we had d closing prayers, I was told all will be well but that when I gst home satan was still going to attack but I will be delivered by God Almighty. I was slightly upset but decided to rest on God’s promise for deliverance.

When the trouble finally came, and I was told by Dr dele Ajayi, the Head of Covid19 Team in Ogun state, I was devastated. He was extremely nice to me and assured me they will do their best. He arranged to test my entire household and our movement to isolation Center.

Thereafter I called d Primate and we prayed. He assured me the sickness was not unto death. I called my spiritual father and mentor Rev Joe Olaiya and my other ministers of God wt whom I have been praying for more than 10yrs. I already mentioned them in my previous posts. I called a snr brother, apostle Dave Salako, wt whom we shared the word and prayed frequently during my sojourn at the isolation Center.

Unbelievably together wt my brothers in the Lord we prayed for no less than 7 to 10hrs daily, day and nite. Satan can afflict us but cannot affect our prayers. Prayer is the most powerful weapon of a Christian in and out of crisis. That’s why the Bible says” Men ought to pray ceaselessly “. My wife and I knew that we were in a war situation and since the best doctors in the world do not know for sure which treatment works if any works at all, it was better for us to face squarely the Almighty God who is the All knowing and all powerful God to Heal us and true to His promise he did. All glory, honour and praise to his name and the power in the blood of the Holy lamb of God, Jesus Christ by whose STRIPES we were healed.

On friday 8th of May we had the good news that my wife and I had tested negative. We then needed another negative to be discharged. We were glad. But on sunday 10th satan struck. Another result confirmed that my wife recorded her 2nd negative while I tested positive again. Hope crashed and the heavens literally fell on me. The doctors insisted my wife must leave immediately to avoid reinfection which happened to a couple we met there. My wife broke down and wept uncontrollably. The doctors stood their ground and I also pleaded that I would rather she left for her children’s and everyone else sake. She got up and told d doctors that if she is forcefully removed she will kill herself and her blood shall be on the necks of the doctors. At this point the doctors were taken aback and they left. Came back 1hr later and gave us a set of drugs which will reduce viral load further and prevent reinfection. They also insisted we both must wear masks in house 24/7 and we agreed. When they left my wife and I agreed that we should not be ignorant of the devices of satan. I was due for another test in few hrs. We called everybody and we all launched serious supplication that God must intervene instant. We told corona virus that its name is insignificant when pitched wt the name Jesus which had been exalted above all names. That it must now bow. Besides bcos the righteousness of Christ Jesus resides in us and Jesus was the light of the world and God already at creation separated light from darkness, corona being an arrow from the kingdom of darkness cannot coexist wt the God of light inside of us

It must leave or must be ready to contend wt the power of the blood of Jesus. I quickly brought out my Holy communion wine knelt down, prayed and drank it and invoked the cleansing power of the blood. As we concluded, behold the doctor was at the door to take our samples for test. He did and left. We sent Angels of the Lord of Host after him and commanded that the test must come back negative.

In the nite we did a vigil with Mathew 18 vs 18 19 & 20. We then both chose Tue 14 april as our departure date from the isolation Center. By 6pm on Monday 13th my wife completed packing all our belongings and we were ready to go. All the fruits in the fridge we put together and gave our neighbour.

We thanked God for our discharge and slept. I was woken up @ 7.30am wt a phone call from dr Ajayi, the head of the team in abeokuta that our results hv tested negative and we were free to go.

My friends Our God is still in the business of hearing and answering Prayers. With faith in God and fervent prayers we can overcome all life challenges. Only we must believe and not doubt because He is faithful who has promised us and His word has never failed. Jesus is Lord. Hallelujah!!!

It is very sad that presently people of the world including world leaders fear Covid19 more than they fear God, the creator of heaven and earth. This is a global calamity and a sure path to pain sorrow and misery.

We Christians must take our stand. God Jehova is greater than all things, forms or forces. We must esteem him above everything on earth or in heaven. All powers belong to him. If we call him, confess our sins and humble ourselves nationally or globally , He will hear us and heal our lands in Jesus Name. And to Him who is God eternal I give all glory, honour and worship. I exalt the name of the Lord Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith, who rule and reign forever and ever . Amen.

The medications I took for my covid19 virus infections.

Hydroxychloroquine, 400mg daily for 2days.there after 400mg daily for 3days.

Azithromycin 500mg daily for 10 days.

Zinc sulphate 100mg daily till today

Vitamin C 1200 mg daily till now.

I had malaria while on admission. Was effectively treated with an anti malaria. I also developed cough after about a week and was effectively treated by fairly large dose of Augmentine for 7 days.

I must say that there is no universal medical consensus on a specific treatment regime for covid19. Also most of d drugs being used in different centres worldwide are not backed by any detailed or extensive research work anywhere in the world.. Most scientific works and studies currently going on have limited scientific acceptability either because the samples used are too scanty, sometimes as low as 40 to 60, or because controls do not exists. It will take another 4 to 6 months before results of credible works are available.

However the humongous nature of the global emergency make it impossible for countries not to explore experimental drugs that show any possibility or potential to contain the virus.

In my own case I commenced treatment with the hydroxychloroquine regime 4 days to my isolation. This us because I read extensively on various options of treatment for covid 19 and I follow the global debate on its pros & cons of d treatment. With my medical background and local consultation with colleagues I already made up my mind that the chloroquine regime was so far the most promising. I ordered for the drugs just in case someone close or even I should unfortunately pick up the virus.

I MUST WARN HERE THAT IF UU HV CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIAS , U WILL NEED TO CONSULT YR PHYSICIAN BEFORE U TAKE HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE. I DID. so I was advised to use 200mg twice daily instead of 400mg twice daily for 2days.

After I put my wife and I on the treatment my low grade fever disappeared completely and my wife’s bone pains too. Personally I blv the combination works. Lagos uses anti viral drugs and they also get good results. However the scientific truth we know about treatment for viral infection is that ultimately what eventually works is the innate capability of the immune system of individual patients. It is the immunity level that eventually decide the course of the infection in each individual. That is why age and ore existing comobidity factors are crucial to survival and wellbeing.

Hence for those who are not sick, you should ingest immune boosting drugs and preparations . Like zinc SULPHATE, immunace, RELOAD and similar immunity enhancing drugs.

I also took copious amount of ginger, garlic, tumeric and lemon. In kaduna I am told that they add dongoyaro leaves to the above mixture and drink liberally.

As a tip also, it is known that when the virus first gain access to the body it stays in the nasal cavity and the throat for 2 to 3days. In this position the virus itself is vulnerable. It does naturally in temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius. If at this stage u can consume large quantities of hot water wt lemon u can abort the attack.

    My Advice

Pursue personal safety at whatever cost. Stay at home. Dont visit and dont recieve visitors. Check drivers maids and aides. Since its may be difficult to gauge their compliance, either reduce to the barest minimum or do without. Those that must stay must be made to be resident and movements restricted.

.maintain physical distancing if u must ho out. Comply wt the hygiene protocols as recommended by NCDC.

Fortify yrself daily wt immune boosters.

At the slightest sign of trouble, fever, catarrh and or cough get help instant.

I hope someone finds this piece useful.

  • Lawyers advise EFCC not to proceed with corruption case against Doyin Okupe

Lawyers have advised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to proceed with the corruption case against Doyin Okupe, former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan.

TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports Okupe made this known after EFCC operatives stormed his residence in Lagos on Saturday, requesting him to report at the commission’s office in Ikoyi.

“Officers in charge of the case told me that Efcc lawyers have advised them not to proceed with the case as they cannot win in court,” Okupe said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The EFCC operatives left Okupe’s residence on Saturday after the Jonathan’s former aide promised to report to the commission’s office on Monday.

In his Facebook post Sunday’s, Okupe hinted that the EFCC had made a u-turn on corruption case against him.

The Facebook post reads: “This is the self hand written details of the leader of the Efcc team that came to my house on Saturday 8th Dec 2019. I was specifically requested by him to report at the CYBERCRIME UNIT in their awolowo rd office.

“It is not true that they just came to drop invitation letter. I have witnesses in my house. I was not alone.

“They came wt a car and a bus wt 6 armed Mopol who stayed outside the house. They insisted I followed them to their office.

“The stories about my receiving money to run my office is 2yrs old and had been thoroughly investigated for over 6months.

“Officers in charge of the case told me that Efcc lawyers have advised them not to proceed with the case as they cannot win in court.

“This new move is obviously a reckless and desperate one being part of the grand plan to silence opposition even at the expense of wasting tax payers money on frivolous precaution.

“I consider this as an occupational hazard and I am absolutely unperturbed.

“We are focused and determined to defeat this government in 2019 by God’s Grace and install an urbane, civilized and highly resourceful leader in person of Alhadji Atiku Abubakar.

“On this mission we are prepared to suffer persecution including unlawful incarceration, public humiliation and defamation.

“If these are the sacrifices we must pay so that our Nation can be freed from retrogressition, disunity and instability, hunger and pervasive poverty, then we will gladly submit to the unrelenting forces of tyranny knowing fully well that by the Mercy of God Almighty our Nation, it’s people and our children will live many glorious years thereafter.

“I Doyin Okupe after nearly 40years in public service have NEVER stolen any money from public coffers or any institution or establishment.

“I come from a family if those who give to society not those who rape the society. I come from a rich and blessed family who value name, honour and integrity above all else.

“In the entire of this world I have only one house in Lagos and a home in my hometown. Nothing elsewhere. No homes abroad, no monies stucked up any where in the WORLD.

“Those who are trying to destroy me or my name because of politics or what I believe will have God Almighty to contend with in the NAME of Jesus”.

  • Don’t contest 2019 elections should anything unpleasant happens to Buhari, Doyin Okupe tells Osinbajo

The Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe has said Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo should not contest the 2019 Presidential elections should anything unpleasant happens to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former presidential aid also said the north are against President Buhari’s resignation despite his apparent ill health because they are afraid that what played out during late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s time might reoccur.

He noted that majority of people in the north felt they have been cheated when Jonathan was installed constitutionally after Yar’Adua’s death.

Okupe said this during an interview with The Tribune.

In his words: “We do not tell each other the truth. The north is afraid; they have the deja vu feeling.

“Because of the situation of the health of President Buhari, they are afraid of the scenario of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua playing itself out again.

“They don’t want that. And nobody should, if they want peace for this country, envisage such.

“In this country, it may not be written in the constitution but once a southerner is president and completes his term, the next president will come from the north and vice versa.

It is an unwritten constitution that we politicians follow and we ought to honour and respect that arrangement.

“For instance, when you pick a Christian as president, automatically, his vice president would be a Muslim and vice versa.

“These are unwritten laws that we all have an abiding faith in but we had a situation whereby Yar’Adua had a promising eight-year tenure, which was the turn of the north, but he did two years and died and constitutionally, they installed Jonathan, a southerner.

“After completing Yar’Adua’s term, Jonathan, with the support of some of us, went ahead and contested an election, won and by so doing, deprived the north of their legitimate turn.

“All the problems that Jonathan had, including Boko Haram and the kidnap of the Chibok girls, coupled with all the abuses he got that he was clueless, all the difficulties he had in governance were a result of that action.

“The majority of the people in the north felt that they were being cheated and didn’t say anything. It is the same thing that we are facing now.

“People in the north are afraid that such scenario will play out again but they don’t want to talk about it.

“Many people in the south are gloating and wishing that acting President Osinbajo assumes the office or run for presidency after completing the first term with President Buhari.

“No, it can’t work. We cannot punish the north because of an unexpected development in the polity.

“If we have an agreement that this is how we should run our country, neither sickness nor death should cause a violation of that agreement.

“That is where the elites err; rather than talk about it, they want to be deceptive about it.

“The south is being pretentious that they don’t know that such an agreement exists, while the north wants to be deceitful that they have a special answer.

“This is a national problem that needs to be openly discussed by the leaders so as to move the country forward, instead of playing games. You don’t play games with the destiny of Nigerians.”

  • Yes! Fasting, prayer are enough to fix Nigeria – Okupe replies Osinbajo

Sequel to a statement credited to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo that fasting and prayer are not enough in nation building, former senior special assistant on public affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan Dr. Doyin Okupe has faulted the statement insisting the nation can survive on fasting and prayer if the country puts God first.

Okupe in a series of tweets said, “I beg to disagree, with VP. Nobody can limit God or compartmentalize Him.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that Osinbajo had in a meeting with mid-level civil servants on Wednesday said: “No matter how much you pray and fast, our country cannot grow without some of us deciding to do the hard work that makes nation’s work.”

Responding to this, Okupe in series of tweets disagreed with Prof. Osinbajo, insisting that God cannot be compartmentalized.

  • I’ve never lied in my entire life – Doyin Okupe

I’ve never lied in my entire life – Doyin Okupe

Former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has said he never told a lie in his entire life being a Christian.

He said even while in office, he discharged his duties diligently and was never hypocritical about it.

Okupe revealed this in an interview The Sun.

The PDP chieftain said he had no reason to tell lies just to protect his job.

In his words: “Lying and looking after the image of your principal are two different things. In the first instance, I have religious constraints; you know I am a Christian and we were told that lying is of the devil.

I will not lie for any reason because it is the same mouth that I am going to lie with that I am going to pray with and they don’t work together.

Luckily for me, the first person I worked with was Obasanjo, he hated the word ‘propaganda’ because he felt that propaganda was about lying, although that is not true.

But, basically, you can still do a good job, even with the worst principal without lying but by emphasising and deliberately delving or over-indulging on the positive sides of your boss.

So, If I get cornered by a journalist with lots of negativity, I always find an exit, with the positive side of any situation in which I am in and then, dwell on that.”
