  • APC spokesperson, driver die in car crash

    The spokesperson of the Bauchi State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Auwal Jallah and his driver Shamsudden Mohammed has died in a car crash.

    The spokesperson and the driver were involved‎ in a ghastly motor accident on Monday along Azare/Gamawa road.

    The accident which instantly claims the life of his driver Shamsuddeen Mohammed left him with several injuries and fractures and taken to Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare and later taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano for further treatment.

    He ‎later died Thursday night and was buried at his hometown Gamawa the same day according to Islamic rites.‎

    Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Bauchi State APC chairman, Alhaji Uba Ahmed Nana, state organising secretary of the party and other dignitaries attended the funeral prayer.

    Governor Abubakar and other dignitaries later condoled members of the family over the death of the party’s spokesperson and prayed to Allah to forgive his shortcomings and give the family to have the fortitude to bear the loss.

    He described late Auwal Jallah as an honest, dedicated person who lived a simple life and associated well with friends and all other members of the party.

    Similarly, the state APC chairman, Alhaji Uba Nana had earlier led a delegation of party members to Kuluntum village‎ on Tuesday where they condoled the families of the driver to the late APC spokesperson.

  • Gunmen kidnap former Ekiti senator, driver, demand N80m ransom

    A former Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Senator Ayo Arise, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

    He was kidnapped on Sunday along the Okene-Lokoja road while on his way to Abuja.

    A source who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday said that the senator’s abductors have contacted the family and demanded N80 million ransom.

    He was reportedly kidnapped alongside his driver and taken to an unknown location.

    Arise attended a ceremony in Ikere-Ekiti where chieftaincy titles were conferred on a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin and his wife, Chinyere by the Ogoga, Oba Adejimi Adu.

    He later played golf at the Ado-Ekiti Golf Course along Poly Road before retiring to his country home to hold political meetings with his supporters.

    Speaking on condition of anonymity, an aide to Arise said: “Yes, he visited Ekiti State on Saturday before returning to Abuja.

    “When we wanted to establish contact with him, we could not. The last time I called him was around 6:00 p.m. So the kidnap must have taken place around 7:00 p.m.

    “They have contacted us and demanded a sum of N80m ransom. We are worried because we don’t know his situation.

    “The family is working hard to secure his release and we have contacted all the relevant agencies including the police to come to our aid.”

    The politician is also a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for next year’s governorship poll in Ekiti.

    He dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for APC shortly before the 2015 general elections.

    …says their bodies were buried in a shallow grave

    Following the setting up of a police team to investigate the murder of a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Mohammed Alkali and his driver in the legislative rerun elections held in Rivers State on Saturday, December 10, a prime suspect, Chukwuemela Ekikeme has reportedly confessed to the crime.

    Recall that Alkali and his driver, Sergeant Peter Uchi, were gruesomely murdered in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local government area of the state.

    Upon the occurrence of the sad event, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, had set up a team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder and the team arrested some of the suspects.‎

    One of the suspects, a 22-year-old man identified as Chukwuemela Ekikeme, was apprehended at about 6:00pm on Saturday.

    Ekiekeme, also known as Prince Okoroma, an indigene of Okposi village, near Omoku, had come out from the creek to visit his girlfriend when luck ran out on him, sahara Reporters revealed.

    Upon his arrest, he confessed to the beheading of the DSP.

    According to him, his (Alkali) head and driver’s body were thrown into a river while the white Mitsubishi pick-up van belonging to the police was parked deep in Uju Forest with the key stuck in the ignition.

    He led police operatives to where the deceased were buried in a shallow grave.

    The patrol vehicle has since been recovered.

    The suspect also confessed that he and nine members of his gang had seven AK-47 rifles, two pump action guns and that they ambushed the police team because they felt they were against their party.

    He listed other gang members as Kachi Nwokocha, who is their sponsor, Bright (Gang leader), Kelvin, Chukwuemela AKA Jungle Justice, John Ahiaikwo, Izu, Okechukwu, Ngozi and Christian.
