    The NDLEA operatives carefully opened the can and the content turned out to be hard drugs.

    NDLEA nabs 40-year-old drug peddler with cash in Rivers

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) nabbed a 40-year-old drug peddler, Damion Onuoha with 1.6kg of white and brown Methamphetamine in Rivers on Tuesday.

    NDLEA commander in Rivers, Mr Ahmed Mamuda, made the disclosure in a statement issued by Mr Emmanuel Ogbungbada, Assistant State Commander, Media and Advocacy.

    He said Onuoha was nabbed in a raid at Elele Alimini town in Emuoha Local Government Area of the state with the drugs and that N650,700 was also recovered from him as exhibit.

    Mamuda said the drug dealer was being interrogated at the agency’s detention facility.

    He added that the NDLEA secured the conviction of 21 drug dealers at the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt in October.

    According to Mamuda, the NDLEA also arrested 21 suspects comprising of 19 male and two female in October and seized 424.72kg of cocaine, heroin, Indian hemp, Tramadol and methamphetamine.

    The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested one Abubakar Ibrahim, the village head of Gidan Abba, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto, with 10 others over 991,320 pills of pharmaceutical opioids.

    A statement by the Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, on Sunday in Abuja, said 1,251kgs of cannabis and Khat were recovered.

    Babafemi said that the suspect,  Ibrahim, 38, was arrested in Bodinga town with 3kgs of cannabis sativa and 4,000 tablets of exol-5.

    He said that NDLEA operatives attached to Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) import shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos, also intercepted 15 cartons.

    According to Babafemi, the cartons which were intercepted on Oct. 26, contained 802,000 pills of Tramadol, imported from Dubai, UAE and Karachi, Pakistan.

    He also said that 10 cartons of Tramadol 225mg, came in from Dubai on Ethiopian Airlines flight.

    The NDLEA Director for Media and Advocacy, added that four cartons of 100mg and a carton of 225mg Tramadol came from Karachi, Pakistan on another Ethiopian Airlines flight.

    According to him, on the same day, operatives at the SAHCO export shed intercepted cans of tomato paste going to the United Kingdom.

    “A thorough search of the consignment revealed that the tomato cans were used to conceal 36 pellets of cannabis.

    “This was with a gross weight of 21.30 kilograms, while a cargo agent, Sodehinde Akinwale, has also been arrested in connection with the seizure.

    “Two days after, Oct. 25, operatives attached to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) import shed of the Lagos airport, also seized five cartons of dried khat leaves.

    “This was also weighing 107.70kgs that came in from Bangkok, Thailand, through Dubai on an Emirates Airline flight, ” he said.

    Babafemi said that a follow-up operation on the seizure of 11.90kgs Meth concealed in the heads of dried fish going to Dubai, UAE on August 5, had also  led to the arrest of a 30-year-old bricklayer, Babatunde Mamowora.

    He said that the suspect was arrested on Oct. 27 in Sango Ota area of Ogun, in collaboration with men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the area.

    The Police Command in Ebonyi, has said the Labour Party Senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, Linus Okorie was arrested and abducted as alleged.

    SP Chris Anyanwu, Spokesman of the Command said, in a statement, he issued to newsmen in Abakaliki on Monday, that Okorie was only arrested.

    He said that Okorie, an Ex-House of Representative Member was arrested over drug-related matters and several other offences.

    Anyanwu urged the public to desist from painting pictures of insecurity in the state by propagating unfounded rumours.

    “Sequel to initial viral rumours renting the air, cum a Press Release accredited to one Dr David Ogbonna of Linus Okorie CaringHeart Foundation, purporting that the former member of House of Representatives, was abducted on Sunday.

    “The State Police Command swung into action and later traced the said Okorie, who had evaded many Police arrests/invitations, to the head office of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit at the Old Government House.

    “Police detectives were briefed on why he was arrested which includes; his activities and utterances that incited and provoked the violence that engulfed Onicha Community which led to suspected gunmen to unleash mayhem in the area in 2021.

    “Hence, the case has now been taken over by the Police Command for a scrupulous investigation.

    “Secondly, Okorie was severally invited by the Security and Intelligence Bureau of the Command over a petition dated, March 23, authored by the State’s Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, alleging that he was spreading fake news against Gov Dave Umahi.

    “When invited by the SIB over the false allegations/petition, Okorie in his characteristic pompous manner refused vehemently to report. Rather he chose to file fallacious suits against the Police Command.

    “It is also pertinent to mention that Okorie also have a pending case in which he is implicated in a drug-related offence where the suspects purported to be his agents were arrested for Hard drug sales and use at his City Hub Inn, Mile 50, Abakaliki,” the Spokesman stated.

    African agencies on Drug, food regulations brainstorms to create single information database

    Some African Drug and Food regulatory agencies are currently in Abuja brainstorming on how to have a single database of information on drug and food regulations on the African continent.

    The event, which kick-started on Monday, was organized by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) in collaboration with the Nigeria National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

    Newsmen reports that the discussion which focuses on the regulations of COVID-19 vaccines and other health issues in Africa is targeted at ensuring Smart, Safety and Surveillance (AU-3S) of all the regulated products.

    Speaking to newsmen at the event, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof Moji Adeyeye, disclosed that AU-3S had become a mini umbrella the agency would be relying upon for information sharing of each country.

    She said that from NAFDAC perspective, it was not only monitoring the safety of food and drugs, the agency was also monitoring the distribution of the products.

    Adeyeye said that the agency had already started sharing information between each African country with anti-retroviral, anti-tubarculosis and anti-malaria, adding that NAFDAC work was already set up in AU-3S.

    “COVID-19 vaccine is a pilot, we are going to be monitoring other products, essential medicine in particular, that is the relevant of AU-3S in Nigeria.

    “We are linking our activities in tackling substandard, falsified medicine to what AU-3S is doing, safety and quality efficacy. In Nigeria, we are putting together mechanism to control the quality of medicines in particular.

    She said NAFDAC was using traceability in Global Standard one (GS1) in driving technology and actually using it as part of safety monitoring in Nigeria.

    She added that once the medicine got to the national cold store of primary healthcare agency, the agency always did the commissioning and the scanning of all vaccines that entered Nigeria.

    “Once we finished the scanning, the primary healthcare agency takes over and distributes to the national and sub-national, which includes states, local government healthcare facilities.

    “We do this successfully in Nigeria; we use the template that we got in our database, tracebility information system to do our monitoring and regulations,” she said.

    She said that the agency was working towards keeping confidence of the agency in the consumers and to ensure that they got quality.

    Dr June Raine, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), United Kingdom (UK) Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), stated that the initiative would bring about effective regulation and support for technical expertise.
    According to her, safety in vaccine and protection is a global initiative, and that AU-3S will help on how resources are deployed in different countries.
    She added that it would help in scaling-up prototype of drug regulation of each countries, and help in the healthcare sector.
    Mrs Delese Darko, CEO, Food and Drug Authority, Ghana, said that it would bring about strong capacity in each country’s existing programme.
    She added that the synergy on information sharing on drug and food regulations would bring confidence when giving report to the government.
    Dr Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela, CEO South Africa Health Products and Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), stated that the initiative would bring about update on information sharing, and improvement to other therapeutics areas.
    Dr Dan Hartman, Director, Integrated Development Global Health, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, stated that the initiative would assist in moving to a world where seamless transfer of data and knowledge was possible.
    Mr Mahmuda Mamman, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, said that the initiative would assist policy makers in making decision.
    According to him, a good decision can make the healthcare delivery across Africa and the world very easy.

    Drug queen who concealed narcotics in travellers’ luggages nabbed at Lagos airport

    Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 27-year-old drug queen, Mrs Opoola Mujidat in possession of narcotics concealed in fetish bowls at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja (MMIA), Lagos.

    The suspect planted the drugs concealed in fetish bowls containing scary native black soap and sponge on two Oman-bound male passengers, apprehended at the departure hall of the airport.

    The Director Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

    Babafemi said that the passengers: Raji Kazeem and Akinbobola Omoniyi were travelling together to Oman, the Middle East, on Ethiopian Airlines flight on Monday July 11, when they were intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the airport.

    He said that a search of their luggage revealed wraps of cannabis sativa hidden in bowls of native black soap and sponge packed into a bag containing food items, which Kazeem was carrying.

    “Both Kazeem and Omoniyi immediately alerted the anti-narcotic officers that Mujidat who was still within the vicinity gave the bag containing the illicit substance to them at the airport.

    “She was promptly arrested. The lady accepted responsibility and stated that she brought the luggage for the two passengers to give to her husband in Oman.

    “Mujidat, who hails from Oyo East LGA in Oyo State, confessed during preliminary interview that the bag containing the food items were packed by her with different items, including the black soap used to conceal the illicit substance.

    Babafemi quoted the Chairman, NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa as commending the officers and men of the MMIA Command for the arrests, seizures and their dexterity.

    Marwa warned the drug cartels that no matter the ingenuity of their modes of concealment, the dedicated workforce of the agency would always exposed them and their tricks.

  • Plateau Govt to establish agency for administration and control of drugs

    The Plateau Government is to establish a drug and commodities management agency to regulate and control drug administration in the state.

    The Commissioner for Health , Dr Nimkong Lar, made this known while briefing newsmen on Thursday at the Government House in Jos.

    He expressed joy over the approval of a bill, for a law to establish the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (DCMA), by the Executive Council.

    “One of the major challenges of health services in the state, is the difficulty to access quality and affordable drugs in our health centres.

    ” The issue of fake drugs will not be there again if an agency is established to monitor the administration of drugs.

    ”We also have big pharmaceutical companies operating to distribute drugs to health centres across the state,” he said .

    He said the establishment of the agency would assure patients of the efficacy of drugs they use.

    “The agency is going to be very useful to us, alot of development partners like the USAID and global fund will be there to help us get quality drugs for our people at a subsidised rate.

    “Presently we have what is called the Global Health Supply Chain , it to assist us,” he said.

    On the patients who contracted monkeypox, he said they have been discharged.

    ”Samples have been taken from the three suspected cases for further investigations,” he said.

    In the same vein, the Commissioner for Works, Mr Pam Bot-Mang said when established, the agency for drugs administration would provide a good source for quality and affordable drugs and other health commodities, for tertiary, secondary and primary health care facilities in the state.

    He said a governing board would be established for the agency, which shall formulate general policies and provide guidance to it with regard to its functions.

    He said council was also intimated of the award given to the Plateau State Nigeria Erosion and Water Shed Management project (NEWMAP),for the best state in financial management and reporting in the country.

    The council thanked Plateau people for the support to achieve the feat,while commending Gov. Simon Lalong for approving the project’s counter funding for its take off in 2016, saying some of the projects have been completed.

    ” Two of the projects have been completed , the one in Mangu main market gully erosion site has been completed 100 per cent and one in Munchogopyeng site has been 90 per cent completed,” he said .

    Drug kingpin excretes 95 pellets of heroin in Abuja

    A 36-year-old Nigerian, based in Italy, Nwakanma Uche, has excreted 95 pellets of heroin, after he was arrested by operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA).

    Uche was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, after it was discovered that he had ingested the pellets.

    The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

    Babafemi said that Uche, who hailed from Arodizuogu Village, Ideato Local Government Area of Imo State, was nabbed while trying to board an Air France plane on his way to Paris, France, and Milan, Italy, on Sunday, May 15, 2022.

    “He was thereafter kept under observation, during which he excreted the 95 pellets of the illicit drug.

    “He claimed he came to see his parents in Nigeria after 12 years in Italy.

    “He added that he was to be paid N 1.5 million after a successful delivery of the drugs in Milan,” he said

    Meanwhile, the agency has arrested a wanted drug kingpin behind the 2000.6kg Cannabis Sativa seized in a concrete mixer truck, in Adamawa State, on December 2, 2021.

    Babafemi said that the suspect, Henry Okamaru (a.k.a. Lawrence Ik Okamaru), was arrested in Ondo state after five months of manhunt by operatives of the NDLEA.

    He said that two suspects: Matthew Donuwe and Friday Nmborgwu, were arrested in connection with the consignment, in December, 2021.

    Babafemi also said that they had confessed that the concrete mixer truck, with a Lagos registration number, SMK 890 XB, was loaded with the illicit drug in Ogbese, Ondo state.

    He added that they traveled for two months on the road before arriving Adamawa where they were eventually arrested by NDLEA operatives.

    According to him, investigations revealed that Okamaru is one of the leaders of a cannabis cultivation cartel that operates in the Ondo-Ekiti axis.

    “He shuttles through Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo and Delta States, from where he coordinates supplies of illicit consignments to northern parts of the country and Lagos State.

    “The drug lord has also been identified as a member of an international drug trafficking ring, while he shuttles between Nigeria and South Africa, where his family is settled.

    “He has a strong control and stake in cannabis cultivation in Ondo, Edo, Ekiti, Osun and Oyo States, with large storage facilities in Lagos and Abbi in Delta State, from where his consignments are distributed year round,” he said.

    India police nab six Nigerians over murder case in Mumbai

    The Police in India have arrested six Nigerians in connection with a murder case in Mumbai.

    The men were arrested on May 6 in the Ri-Bhoi district of Lad Umsaw, in the northeastern state of Meghalaya.

     

    Two others were apprehended for alleged drug dealing in another Indian state.

     

    According to Meghalaya Police, the six are wanted in connection with a case registered with Waliv Police Station under sections 302/364/201/323/143/147/149 of the Indian Penal Code.

     

    It was alleged that the men were attempting to flee to Bangladesh, via Dawki in the West Jaintia Hills district, following a manhunt for them in India.

     

    The Meghalaya Police stated this in a post on its Twitter feed.

     

    “Yet another successful Inter-State Police coordination! After being alerted by @MumbaiPolice about the movement of some Nigerian Nationals wanted for a murder case in Mumbai, an operation was launched & 6 Nigerian Nationals were apprehended at Lad Umsaw, Ri-Bhoi.

     

    “It is learnt that the following Nigerian Nationals after committing the offence in Mumbai were intending to flee India to Bangladesh through Dawki India,” it tweeted.

     

     

    The suspects were identified as Eze Christopher Oba, Ahukanna Chinonso, Obi Francis Osita, Okoro Kelvin Chidozie, Emmanuel Agbeyi and Osagiede Godstime.

     

    TheNewsGuru.com gathered that two more Nigerians were also arrested in India in connection with drug dealing.

     

    The duo –Ifeanyi Charles Okuakaj and Emmanuel Enuma Dike – were nabbed in the city of Guwahati, Assam State.

     

    Their arrest followed an investigation by the Guwahati Police into an international drug trafficking racket which unearthed clues about drug shipment routes to Assam from neighbouring Indian states and countries.

     

    Okuakaj and Dike were said to have been apprehended at the Guwahati Railway Station while travelling by the Dibrugarh-bound Rajdhani Express.

     

    According to Guwahati Police, they were found with 20 grammes of cocaine, Aadhar cards and PAN cards registered to an address in Delhi.

     

    It was claimed that they entered India from Bangladesh through the Dawki border in Meghalaya. They came to Guwahati and then Delhi, before returning to Guwahati with a plan to return to Bangladesh.

     

    The police claimed that the duo’s arrest proved the presence of a ‘cartel smuggling cocaine to Guwahati and other states of the Northeast from Guwahati’.

    Mother of 10-year-old female student of Chrisland School, seen in a sexual act with her male colleagues, have narrated how her daughter was allegedly raped as she went for her phone charger in a room.

    In her words: “When my daughter explained to me what happened, she said that they went out in the morning to have breakfast and one of the boys, Kachi, begged her to borrow him her phone charger which she obliged.

     

    “After they had dinner, Kachi called her room that she should come and take her charger. She went there for her charger.

     

    “When she got into the room, one of them said she should take her charger from the toilet, it was when she entered the toilet, that they hijacked her and told her to take a substance, so they were all under the influence.

     

    “She said after, she did not know what she was doing again. They told her to be climbing them and someone stood there videoing them and posting it out,” victim’s mother explained.

     

    She said her child was raped during a school trip to Dubai which was organised by Chrisland School.

     

    According to the viral video which was posted on the Instagram page of a music executive, Ubi Franklin, the woman stated that while her daughter was being raped, some filmed the incident and posted it online.

     

    She claimed that the school tried to cover up the incident till another parent drew her attention to it.

     

    The aggrieved mother claimed that the school threatened to kill her daughter if she ever spoke about the incident.

     

    “A parent called me that she needed to see me urgently. I went to her house and she told me that something had been trending in Chrisland and she believes I was not aware.

     

    “The woman showed me the video and told me that all the parents are aware. Immediately I informed my husband.

     

    “Please I am begging Nigerians to help me because Chrisland was trying to hide this issue. They were trying to push us out of the way and my daughter was affected psychologically. Please I need help as a mother. I am begging fellow Nigerians to help me.

     

    “They have been threatening my daughter that if she speaks out they are going to kill her. That it is a man’s world and nothing would happen. My daughter was dying in silence,” she said.
