Mailafia raises alarm over fresh DSS invitation, says his life in danger

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, says his life is in danger.

Mailafia was reacting to the third invitation extended to him by the Department of State Services.

The former CBN deputy governor, in a statement in Jos on Friday, described the latest DSS invitation as political persecution and urged well-meaning people to pray for his safety.

He said, “Dear Comrades, Beloved Brethren, I have once again (for the 3rd time) been ordered to appear before the DSS at their Jos HQ this coming Monday 14th September, at 11.00 am.

“This is in addition to our battle in court, as my lawyer appears before a Jos High Court today Friday the 11th, seeking a restraining order against the DIG Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who are also pursuing me.

“I spent over 20 years of my working life abroad as a university teacher, banker and international civil servant with unblemished record.

“I have no criminal record — not even a parking ticket. Sadly, it is in my own fatherland that I’m being subjected to criminal investigation and such extreme political persecution.

“Please, pray for me. I have reasons to believe that my life is in danger and that some powerful political forces want to silence me forever. For speaking the truth.

“For speaking on behalf of the holy martyrs — of thousands of innocent children, women, elderly and youths that have been killed in our beloved country. It is only in our benighted country that a man who speaks from his conscience can be hounded like a common criminal.

“Please, those of you in the Jos area or who can easily travel to Jos, please kindly mobilise and be there en masse to support me on Monday at 11.00 am as I go once again into the Lions’ Den. I’m a believer in nonviolence. Please, no-one should throw even a little stone on my behalf. Let us become candles of light and peace in this Age of Darkness. Thank you so immensely and may God bless you alI.”

DSS debunks questioning Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage

The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted reports that it invited Don Jazzy and music sensation Tiwa Savage for questioning over political utterances against President Muhammadu Buhari.

TheNewsGuru recalls that until recently, the entertainers have been vocal about their displeasure with insecurity, bad governance and other issues plaguing the society.

Though it was not clear when the alleged invitations and interrogations of the entertainers were carried out, an online medium on Tuesday night claimed the meeting held in Lagos two-weeks ago.

Dismissing the allegation, an irritated spokesman for DSS, Peter Afunanya, who did not allow the reporter ask her question yelled: “We did not invite any musician.”

Asked if the DSS has never invited or detained for questioning in recent times, Afunanya simply hung the phone. Further calls to him were rejected.

TheNewsGuru recalls that days back Don Jazzy took to his official Twitter page to debunk news of his alleged questioning.

In an 11-second video, he sarcastically asked “what is quizzes?” in reaction to the headline of the online news site.

Acclaimed music producer, Don Jazzy has laughed off a report that the Department of State Services (DSS) recently quizzed him and Tiwa Savage.

According to a viral report, the duo were invited to the DSS office in Lagos a fortnight ago for alleged anti Buhari utterances.

Tiwa Savage was also reportedly warned to stop her movement on Twitter known as “WeAreTired”, calling for more government action on discontinuing rape occurrences and police brutality in the country.

Don jazzy in a video posted on Twitter on Wednesday laughed off the report, asking “What’s the meaning of quizzes?”

DSS Invite Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage over alleged anti Buhari remarks

Details have emerged on how music producer, Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage, were invited by the Department of State Serviced for questioning over alleged political utterances against the administration of President Muhamamdu Buhari.

Following a rise in sexual assault cases across Nigeria especially against women, Tiwa Savage started a movement known as “WeAreTired” in protest against the sad situation

Through the movement, the svelte singer called on Buhari’s administration to take action to curtail the tide of rape in the country.

TheNewsGuru gathered that several posts on social media calling on the government to live up to its responsibilities to Nigerians, earned Tiwa Savage an invitation by the DSS.

Together with Don Jazzy, Savage was invited to the DSS office in Lagos two weeks ago during which they were warned to be careful with their posts on the social media.

Shortly after that occurrence, the two celebrities together with colleagues Yemi Alade and Waje were summoned by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, who while sharing efforts they were making to tackle rape and other problems in the state and country, cautioned the entertainers to steer clear of political remarks in order not to incur the wrath of the President Buhari administration.

Confirming the subtle warning from government, Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage both appear to have reduced their social media posts in times after the meeting with the DSS and police in Lagos.

For example, Tiwa has stopped using the #Wearetired hashtag after the meeting with DSS Director at their Shangisha, Lagos office.

Ex-Speaker, Na’Abba opens up on two-hour meeting with DSS

Former Speaker Ghali Na’Abba has opened up on his meeting with the Department of State Services (DSS), saying he was not invited because of his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Na’Abba said he was questioned by the DSS for over two hours, saying that he was invited based on misunderstanding of the words he used in the media last week.

The former speaker had described the country as a failed state and said Nigerians have a right to self- determination.

He said he was questioned for over two hours and that he still stood by what he said.

“I did not disown anything I said. I will never mince my words. Whatever I see as the truth I say it. And that is what I said in my interview and said during the press conference. And I can never say anything that is not the truth.

“What happened was there were certain words that appeared in my address and interview which needed some clarifications and which clarification, I made.

“We were both satisfied with what happened. We advised one another. The DSS have their own job and their own experience. I too have my own vocation also have my own experience. And we felt highly enriched by our experiences.

“That is how things are supposed to be. It went successfully. I enjoyed my stay there. I had no problems with the way they received me,” he said.

Na’Abba said in his address he used the words ‘failed state’ and ‘self determination,’ which was what the DSS sought clarification.

“Self- determination simply in our own context means Nigerians must be allowed to live the way they want to live.

“It does not mean the mean dismemberment of the country. A lot of times from security point of view when you say self- determination it is meant that it is the dismemberment of the country, which is not so. This needed clarification.

“Failed state is any state that cannot provide a lot of services. What happened was that in their own opinion I did not use the words appropriately and it is only human to use words not appropriately and I told them that what I meant there is that the indices that characterised a failed state are prevalent with us,” he said.
