A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’abba, has been invited by the Department of State Services over an interview he granted Channels Television on Thursday regarding the agenda of the National Consultative Front to bring about a new Nigeria that works for all.

Spokesperson for the group, Dr Tanko Yunusa, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

He said the former Speaker had decided to honour the DSS invitation on Monday by 12:00pm.

Recall that Na’abba had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of turning Nigeria into a failed state, describing him as an irresponsive and incompetent leader in the history of the country.

The statement reads, “Please be notified that the DSS on Friday sent an invitation to NCFront Co-Chair and former Speaker of Nigeria, Rt Hon Ghali Umar Na’abba, after his very profound interview on Channels Television on Thursday in regard to the NCFront agenda to bring about a new Nigeria that works for all.

“However, our leader, Ghali Umar Na’abba, has decided to honour the DSS invitation and therefore shall be visiting the DSS Headquarters in Abuja on Monday at 12noon.

“All NCFront organs, structures and allies nationwide are by this notice put on the alert as eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”

How I got information about Northern governor sponsoring Boko Haram – Mailafia

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Obadiah Mailafia, has admitted he got the information about a Northern Governor leading the Boko Haram insurgents from Fulani traders in a market.

Mailafia was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) over the claims.

After his release from DSS custody, he refused to retract his statements and insisted he was ready to lay down his life like former South Africa president, Nelson Mandela.

However, in an interview with BBC Hausa, Mailafia revealed he got the information from “some Fulani traders” in the market and did not know that his comments would go viral.

Mailafia said he explained to the DSS what he knew about the incident and apologised for any statements he made that offended others.

He added that he is a fan of President Muhammadu Buhari, “but there are bad people who don’t give him the advice to help him”.

The Northern Governors Forum (NGF) has called on security agencies to investigate Mailafia’s allegations.

Govt sponsoring killings: Mailafia apologised profusely for his ignoble statement – DSS

The Department of State Services has accused a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, of attempting to cause a breach of peace in the country.

The service also berated the former development banker, saying he is “playing to the gallery.”

Mailafia had in an interview with a radio station alleged that a Northern Governor was the commander of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

He was subsequently invited by the Plateau State office of the DSS and interrogated for six hours and released.

But Mailafia while addressing journalists after his visit to the secret police said he stood by his allegations.

However, the DSS Public Relations Officer, Dr Peter Afunanya, in a statement on Friday, said Mailafia “apologised profusely” for his comments during questioning.

He recalled that the DSS had earlier raised the alarm that some notable personalities were planning to cause a breakdown of law and order.

The statement read, “With the latest occurrences in the country, Nigerians may have no reason to doubt the service’s earlier pronouncement.

“Dr Obadiah Mailafia’s recent outburst aimed at playing to the gallery and creating unnecessary tension is a confirmation of his group’s desperation to breach the peace.”

Afunanya said Mailafia, as a former Deputy Governor of the CBN and currently, a Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, has unhindered access to government platforms, noting that he should be conversant with official information management protocols.

“But regrettably, he chose to cross the lines of decorum and conduct expected of a personality of his status.

“It is disappointing that he never took advantage of these to reach any of the security or related agencies to share the so-called information at his disposal.

“This, he has agreed to be a grievous error on his part. It, however, suggests his mischief and determination to use the fake news he spewed to incite the people under his control,” the spokesman said.

He added, “It is even more condemnable that Mailafiya, who had profusely apologised during his visit to the Service’s Plateau State Command for his ignoble statement, would, afterward, announce to the world that he stood by his misguided eruption.”

The secret police said it would not allow “disgruntled and aggrieved elements to take laws into their hands and cause mayhem in the polity.”

The agency said it would not hesitate to, within the confines of the law, decisively deal with such persons or groups, no matter how highly placed, that may wish to test its resolve.

DSS warns against plot to destabilize Nigeria, threatens to deal with culprits

The Department of State Services (DSS) has uncovered plans by some persons and groups desirous of taking advantage of latest developments in parts of the country to destabilize it.

According to a statement released by the security agency’s Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunaya, some prominent personalities and socio-cultural groups were said to have resorted to divisive acts through inciting statements aimed at pitting individuals, groups and ethnic nationalities against another.

The Service is, without doubt, aware of these plans and their sponsors. Consequently, it warns that it will no longer tolerate the orchestrations by subversive and unscrupulous elements to cause a breakdown of law and order in the country. In this regard, it is working assiduously with relevant authorities and sister security and law enforcement agencies to ensure that the sinister objective is not achieved.

The Service reiterates its commitment to the internal security of Nigeria and will, within the confines of the law, decisively deal with planners of the mayhem. Law abiding citizens are urged to go about their normal businesses and disregard the antics of agents of destabilization.

They should, however, avail the Service and related agencies with useful information about the activities of criminals and groups intent on instigating violence in the country.

DSS reacts to report of assault on FAAN official at Abuja airport

The Department of State Services (DSS) had dismissed report of assault on an official of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by its Head of Formation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The Public Relations Officer of DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that FAAN had also accused its official of breaching security protocol at the Airport, adding that it had not been established that any FAAN staff was assaulted.

Afunanya said DSS personnel were well mannered and could not have slapped or fought a worker of another agency.

He said the news, as reported in some sections of the media, had left an impression that was not factual.

The public relations officer, therefore, called on the public to disregard the report.

According to him, for the record, no DSS staff fought or engaged in any acts prejudicial to discipline or inimical to public safety at the airport under reference.

“In line with its statutory duties, the Service recognises the Airports as one of the country’s most important assets and has remained at the forefront of protecting them and other critical ones.

“It takes their security seriously and cannot breach it. As a strategic partner, the Service holds FAAN and its staff in good esteem.

“Both agencies have, over time, enjoyed robust working relationship in the areas of training and exchange programmes,” he said.

According to him, there are other avenues than the social media to resolve any misunderstanding among staff of two agencies that have had long history of unity of purpose in the execution of their mandates.

He said the service had high value for effective interagency collaboration needed to achieve positive outcomes for good of the country.

Afunanya urged travellers to go about their normal businesses as the Service, in conjunction with relevant authorities including FAAN, were committed to their safety.

The two Abuja homes of the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, were tooth-combed by security agents on Tuesday.

Operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) and riot policemen stormed Mr. Magu’s private home in Karu and his official residence in Maitama in Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday suspended Magu, according to multiple sources familiar with the case.

Mr Magu allegedly spent Monday night in police cell at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.

This followed his six-hour interrogation by a Presidential panel, chaired by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami.

The panel was constituted by President Buhari to probe various allegations levelled against Magu following a petition by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Department of State Service (DSS).

Malami’s memo allegedly accused Magu of diversion of recovered loot.

The memo was said to contain 22 allegations against the embattled EFCC chairman.
