    NiMet predicts three day dust haze across cities in Nigeria

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted dust haze from Wednesday to Friday across many cities in the country.

    According to NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Tuesday, says that there will be horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1,000 metres over the northern region.

    “Moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km is expected over the North Central region and the inland cities of the South during the forecast period, while a hazy atmosphere is envisaged over the coastal cities throughout the forecast period,” it said.

    According to the agency, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km is also expected over the North, the North Central and the inland cities of the South during the forecast period on Thursday.

    It expected a hazy atmosphere over the coastal belt of the country throughout the forecast period.

    In the predictions released, there will be horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km over the North, the North-central and the inland areas of the South throughout the forecast period.

    “Hazy atmosphere is expected over the coastal cities during the forecast period, and the public should take necessary precautions as dust particles will be in the air.

    “People with Asthma and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather situations.

    “Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NiMet), has alerted the public on the possibility of deterioration in visibility as a result of observed dust haze propagated into the country from the source region.

    The agency made the remark in a statement signed by Mr Muntari Ibrahim, the NiMet’s General Manager of Public Relations in Abuja on Wednesday.

    According to the agency, winds over 10m and 925hPha are favourable for Dust-Haze propagations into the northern parts of the country.

    “Stations in the source region, Niger (Goure, Zinder, Maine-Soroa, Diffa, N-Guigmi and 61091) reporting horizontal visibility between 800m and 6000m.

    “The sources from Chad are expected to report poor horizontal visibility in the next 24hrs, based on available models.

    ”Due to strong winds, dust in suspension is expected to propagate to some states in northern part of the country.’’

    It said that this would further reduce horizontal visibility especially over Katsina, Kano, Nguru, Jigawa, Potiskum and Maiduguri in next 24hours.

    NiMet therefore advised members of the public to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension over the atmosphere.

    It further advised Individuals with respiratory ailments to protect themselves as the current weather condition is not good for their health.

    “Airline operators are also advised to avail themselves of weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

    “NiMet will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates when necessary,” the agency said.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted that many states will witness dust haze and cloudiness from Wednesday to Friday across the country.

    According to the weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja by NiMET many  states will experience dust haze most especially in northern states with a visibility range of 2km to 5Km, few states like Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa will be the most hit.

    The agency said that sunny spells with few patches of clouds were anticipated over the North Central during the morning hours.

    “The atmosphere over the southern parts of the country should be cloudy with intervals of sunshine, while morning thunderstorms are anticipated over Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

    “Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states,” it said.

    The agency envisaged dust haze over the northern region during the forecast period on Thursday.

    It anticipated sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North Central in the morning hours.

    “Hazy atmosphere with few patches of clouds are expected over parts of Kwara, Plateau and Kogi states. There are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa and Benue states in the afternoon and evening hours.

    “The atmosphere over the southern parts of the country should be cloudy with spells of sunshine. However, we expect morning thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

    ”Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Anambra, Imo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states,” it said.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze and sunshine from Thursday to Saturday across the country.

    NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja predicted thick dust haze on Thursday over the Northern region throughout the forecast period.

    According to the agency, cloudy conditions with sunny intervals are expected over the North Central region.

    It, however, forecasts moderate dust haze over Plateau, Niger and Federal Capital Territory throughout the forecast period.

    NiMet anticipated partly cloudy conditions over the Inland cities of the South and coastal cities in the morning hours.

    It envisaged prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States later in the day.

    “On Friday, moderate dust haze condition with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the Northern region during the forecast period.

    “Cloudy conditions with sunny intervals are expected over the North Central region however, there are prospects of moderate dust haze over Plateau, Niger and Federal Capital Territory throughout the forecast period.

    “Partly cloudy conditions are anticipated over the inland cities of the South and coastal areas during the morning hours.

    “Thunderstorms are expected over parts of Cross River, Bayelsa and Delta States in the afternoon/evening hours,” it said.

    The agency predicted slight dust haze conditions on Saturday over the northern region during the forecast period.

    It forecast partly cloudy conditions with sunny intervals over the North Central cities during the forecast period.

    “Partly cloudy conditions are anticipated over the inland cities of the South and coastal cities with chances of morning thunderstorms over Cross River and River States.

    “In the afternoon/evening period, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Imo, Abia, Ondo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa States,” it said.

    According to NiMet, all Airline operators are advised to avail themselves of weather reports periodically from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

    NiMet urged citizens to switch off and disconnect electronics from power supply to avoid damages that could occur as a result of lightning flash at places where thunderstorms were expected.

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency ( NiMet) has predicted dust- haze weather conditions from Monday to Wednesday across the country.

    NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja predicted thick dust-haze with horizontal visibility of less or equal to 1000m over the northern region during the forecast period on Monday.

    According to it, moderate dust-haze with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km is expected over the North central region with prospects of horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1000m over parts of Niger within the forecast period.

    “Moderate dust-haze condition with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5Km is anticipated over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period.

    “Hazy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine are anticipated over the coastal cities of the South during the forecast period,” it said.

    The agency predicted thick dust-haze on Tuesday with horizontal visibility of less or equal to 1000m over the northern region during the forecast period.

    It forecast moderate dust-haze over the North central region with prospects of reduced horizontal visibility to 1, 000m or less over parts of Niger, Benue, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory.

    “Moderate dust-haze condition with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5Km is expected over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period.

    “Hazy atmosphere with spell of sunshine are anticipated over the coastal cities of the South during the forecast period,” it said.

    NiMet envisaged thick dust-haze on Wednesday with horizontal visibility of less or equal to 1,000m over the northern region during the forecast period.

    “Moderate dust-haze with horizontal
    visibility range of 2km to 5km is anticipated over the North central region with prospects of reduced horizontal visibility to 1, 000m or less over parts Niger, Benue, Kwara and Nasarawa state.

    “Moderate fust-haze condition with horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5Km is expected over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period.

    ”Sunny and hazy conditions are expected over coastal cities of South during forecast period.

    “Public are advised to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension over atmosphere.

    ”Individuals with respiratory ailments are to protect themselves as current dusty weather condition is adverse to their health,” it said.

    It suggested warm clothing for the little ones as night – time cold temperatures should be expected.

    NiMet urged all Airline operators to avail themselves of weather reports periodically from its office for effective planning in their operations.
