Police foils attack on police division in Imo
The police command in Imo on Friday successfully repelled a deadly attack by suspected members of the proscribed Eastern Security Network (ESN) who attacked Mbieri Police Division.The police said the incident happened in the early hours of Friday, when a group of gunmen attacked the station with explosive devices.Acting Police Commissioner in Imo, Mr Maman Giwa, disclosed this in a press statement signed by the command’s spokesman, CSP Mike Abattam.He said there was minimal damage to the police facility, while no casualty was recorded.Giwa said ever ready officers repelled the bandits and forced them to retreat.“Today April 1, hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra/ Eastern Security Network, its militia wing attempted attack on Mbieri Police Station but were repelled following a stiff resistance from the police operatives attached to the division.“The hoodlums who threw Improvised Explosive Devices into the station and shooting sporadically were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the combat ready police operatives, forcing them to retreat in panic, escaping in their vehicles.“For the prompt response of the gallant police operatives, only minimal damage was done to a parked unserviceable vehicles and some windows due to the effect of the Explosive.“No life was lost or injury sustained by the operatives and no arms/ ammunition were carted away,” he said.Giwa said investigation was ongoing and efforts were made to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.While commending the gallantry displayed by the officers, he urged them not to relent in their efforts in combating crimes until all the criminal elements and their partners are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.He also appealed to the public for their continuous support and collaboration by giving security agencies, especially the Police credible and timely information. -
Police nab native doctor of Eastern Security Network in Imo
The police in Imo have arrested the alleged Eastern Security Network (ESN) native doctor with Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
This is contained in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abutu Yaro and signed by the command’s Spokesman, CSP Mike Abattam in Owerri.
”After a diligent forensic and technical intelligence gathering, the suspect, Benneth Okoli, 49, was arrested in his shrine at Akuma in Oru East LGA of Imo.
“On searching the shrine, one locally made IED, charms and weed suspected to be cannabis were recovered.
“The suspect on interrogation, made useful statements and is currently assisting the police to arrest the rest of his gang, presently on the run.”
”The arrest is coming a few days after bandits had an encounter with the police in the area.
“Sequel to the attack on the Omuma Police Station in Oru East by bandits suspected to be the remnants of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and ESN terror groups, the CP dispatched the command’s tactical teams led by ACP Benjamin Osuji.
“The team was directed to carry out discreet investigation and arrest the bandits involved in the attack of the police station.
He said that the CP commended the gallantry displayed by the officers and men of the command, urging them to sustain the tempo.
“He also thanked the people of Imo for their support and solicited for an all society approach to sustaining the already improved security architecture in the state.

A trending video shows members of the Eastern Security Network are taking down structures in the region’s forests built by Fulani herdsmen.
In the video, gunshots could be heard in the background as the security operatives burn huts, other properties belonging to the fleeing herders.
The Eastern Security Network, a security agency primarily made up of male and female volunteers from the region, is tasked with safeguarding and fishing for robbers, rapists, kidnappers and killers who terrorize rural areas, mainly farmers, women and their daughters.

[Trending video] Nnamdi Kanu launches Eastern Security Network to defend Igbos against ‘Fulani terrorism’
The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has announced the launch of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
According to Kanu, during a live Facebook post, ESN was established to defend the people of the Eastern Region from terrorists and bandits allegedly trooping in from the North.
“Unveiling the Eastern Security Network. This Is our answer to insecurity and Fulani terrorism,” Kano wrote on Facebook.
The IPOB leader, in another Facebook broadcast monitored, blamed the South East and South-South governors for the upsurge of killings by bandits and herdsmen in ‘Igboland’.
In the video, more than 500 young people in an undisclosed location were on parade.
They were dressed in a black uniform with red and green beret.
“Gbosa (salute) for our leader (Kanu); it is not easy to gather an army like this,” one of them said in the video.

Recall that IPOB has been designated as a terrorist group by the Federal Government. An Abuja Federal High Court judgment had also affirmed its proscription as a terrorist organisation.
Kanu, in the new video which is now trending on social media, said, “We are going to announce our preparedness to defend our land of Biafra, having to wait for many years for our governors in our land, the entire South-East and South-South to do what their counterparts in Yoruba land did and even what the terrorist Meyetti Allah managed to do which our governors have failed to do till this very day.
