The Edo State House of Assembly has removed the lover of legendary Nigerian singer Tuface (Innocent Idibia), Hon. Natasha Osawaru Irobosa as the Minority Leader of the house.

In a dramatic reshuffle, Natasha, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was removed along with Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, who was serving as the Majority Leader and  Hon. Yekini Idaiye, another PDP member, who was serving as Chief Whip.

However, two PDP members, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and Hon. Maria Edeko, retained their positions as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, respectively.

The changes come after the acting All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Jarret Tenebe,  submitted a letter to the assembly.

The APC gained the majority status in the House after four PDP lawmakers defected to the APC, prompting the reshuffle.

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, who announced the leadership changes, stated that the replacements included Hon. Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan of the APC, representing Esan West, as the new Majority Leader.

Hon. Addeh Emakhu Isibor of APC, representing Esan North-East I, was appointed Deputy Leader, while Hon. Lecky Hussein Mustapha of APC, representing Etsako West I, was made Chief Whip.

The Speaker also noted that the PDP leadership would be required to submit a new list of principal officers for the House.

However, Agbebaku, the Speaker, emphasized that the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker were not guaranteed in the wake of these changes, raising questions about the future leadership structure of the House.

The Edo State 8th House of Assembly has adopted a business calendar of 60 days for the commencement of legislative activities for the first quarter of its first session.

The adoption of the business calendar followed a motion by Sunny Ojiezele, a PDP member representing Esan South-East, and seconded by Kingsley Ugabi (APC Estako East), on the floor of the house.

Moving the motion, Ojiezele said that the first session has a total of 60 sitting days for legislative activities.

During plenary, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, thanked Edo people for giving lawmakers of the 8th assembly the mandate to represent them.

He congratulated them on their successful inauguration which marked the commencement of legislative activities.

Agbebaku said “these seats we are occupying are not for us but for Edo people. We are only holding them in trust for the people.

“We are here to ensure that the dividends of democracy get to our people. We will ensure that we work in synergy with the executive to make Edo great again,” he said.

Agbebaku, however, thanked the governor for the opportunity and assured of the cooperation of the house to achieve the `Make Edo Great Again’ (MEGA) agenda of the governor.
