The Commissioner Police (CP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Ajao Adewale, has ordered heightened visibility policing and sustained intelligence-led raids on black spots ahead of the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh,  disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

Adeh said that the CP gave the order during a strategic security meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of Tactical Teams in the command.

Adewale said the meeting was to ensure a safe and secured FCT ahead of the forthcoming Inspector General of Police (I-G) Award Night, the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and the June 12 Democracy Day commemoration.

“You must strengthen security within your respective Areas of Responsibility (AORs) and ensure heightened visibility policing, particularly at all strategic entry and exit points into the city.

“This is in anticipation of the arrival of very senior police officers and other dignitaries from across the country for the I-G’s event,”he said.

The CP ordered the deployment of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams to sweep worship and recreational centres ahead of expected events.

He directed the senior police officers to sustain intelligence-led raids on identified black spots known for illicit drug activities in a professional manner, devoid of abuse.

The CP warned the officers against any form of extortion and urged the officers to be smartly dressed, disciplined, and courteous in their interactions with the public.

“You must not be involved in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters and your continuous raids on identified spots must not serve as a cover for harassment or illegal financial demands.

“You must reinforce the standing order that bail is free; any officer found requesting money for bail will be dealt with in accordance with established disciplinary procedures,”the CP said.

He ordered the DPOs to ensure strict supervision and accountability of all personnel under their command, adding that searching of mobile phones without appropriate legal authority was prohibited.

The CP ordered all officers to be camera-friendly, approachable, and uphold the image of the force and ensure swift and efficient response to distress calls.

He ordered crackdown on vehicles bearing fake or fraudulently acquired diplomatic number plates and urged the DPOs to initiate youth engagement programme.

Adewale said the idea was to foster close collaboration with local communities to promote community policing and crime prevention.

Cleric to pilgrims: Perform good deeds in first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah

Meanwhile, Prof. Muhammad Abubakar-Walid, an Islamic cleric, has said performing good deeds in the first 10 days in the month of Dhul-Hajj is more rewarding than participating in Jihad.

Abubakar-Walid, a member of Da’awah Committee, Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Board, made the disclosure during a routine enlightenment session shortly after the dawn prayer (Subh) in Makkah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday.

The essence of the enlightenment sission is to educate the pilgrims on rituals of Hajj towards an acceptable Hajj (Hajj Mabrur).

The cleric quoted the Holy Prophet (SAW) as saying, ”no days are better than these nine days of Dhul-Hajj,” the Companions asked him even Jihad for the sake of God Almighty?

”The Prophet replied, even Jihad for the sake of Allah..

“Except he who goes to Jihad himself with his wealth and everything, but returns with nothing.” Meaning, he was killed and all the wealth and everything he went with vanished.”

Speaking on the topic,’ What is required of a Muslim in Dhul Hajj’, the cleric said a Muslim was expected to always come to the Mosque very early and wait for the congregational prayers.

“For those who come to the Mosque very early waiting for prayer will be earning reward up to the time when the prayer will commence (Iqama),” he said.

Abubakar-Walid added that a Muslim was also expected to increase the number of supergatory prayers (nawafil) to earn more reward from Allah.

Quoting the Hadith of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him), the cleric reported Sauban, a Companion of the Prophet (SAW) as saying: “The Prophet (PBUH) said: “I have urged you to prostrate to Allah, Allah will increase your reward and forgive your sin.”

The cleric also encouraged Muslims to fast in the first ten days, adding that Ubaida, a companion of the Prophet (SAW) said Prophet (SAW) used to fast all the nine days of Dhul-Hajj as well as the tenth day in the month of Muharram (Ashura).

He added that a Muslim should use the period in saying “Allahu Akbar, La’ilaha illallah, Alhamdu lillah (Attakbir Wattahlil, Wattahmid)” as instructed by the holy Prophet (SAW).

Abubakar-Walid said: “Amirul Muminin, Umar bin Kathab used to say takbeer in his tent in Muna and people used to emulate him and pronounce it together with him.”
