    Why Eid-el-Maulud is celebrated by Muslims – Cleric

    Sheikh Zakirullah Dan’Iya, says Eid-el-Maulud is celebrated to encourage Muslims to rejuvenate their faith and rededicate their time to the service of Almighty God.

    Dan’Iya, the leader of the Tijjaniyyah Islamic sect in Lafia, Nasarawa state made this known  in a telephone interview with NAN on Monday.

    “Maulud gives one the opportunity to show gratitude and appreciation to Almighty Allah for the birth of our holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and His companions.

    ”We have embarked on a procession round the town, chanting solidarity songs and showing our gratitude to Allah for the life our Prophet, a man of unmeasurable qualities.

    ”This period offers us the opportunity to reflect on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his leadership qualities in promoting peace, unity, togetherness and solidarity among communities of Muslims.

    ”We also share love by giving charity to the needy, chant verses from the Holy Book, thereby, emulating the virtues and compassion of the Holy Prophet” he said.

    Maulud Nabiy is celebrated in commemoration of the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), considered as the last messenger of Allah.

    Eid-Maulud, universally observed on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi’ al-awwal,  is a significant event for many Muslims.

    Maulud also honors the Prophet’s legacy, impact and contributions to human civilization

    Eid-El-Maulud: Oborevwori hails Muslims, urges prayers for Nigeria’s progress

    Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Muslims as they celebrate 2024 Eid-el-Maulud, marking the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

    In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor urged Muslims to use the occasion to pray for the peace and prosperity of the state and country at large.

    According to Governor Oborevwori, the country was in dire strait which required the sincere prayers of all citizens to overcome the economic and security challenges currently bedeviling it.

    He urged Muslims in the state and other parts of the country to emulate the exemplary leadership of the Holy Prophet by promoting peaceful existence any where they live.

    Oborevwori added; “on behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I extend our warmest wishes to Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Maulud in Delta, Nigeria and around the world.

    “My hope and prayer is that, as we celebrate, we will internalise the spiritual lessons inherent in the teachings of the Holy Prophet regarding piety, love, justice, fairness, equity, peaceful coexistence, tolerance, honesty, and duty-drivenness.

    “If these teachings are well applied, they will serve our beloved country and bring it greater glory.

    “Let us remember to pray sincerely for our country to attain greater harmony and advancement among our fellow citizens, regardless of their origin or religion, and to foster a stronger dedication to the peace, unity, and stability of the country.

    “I sincerely hope that this celebration will cheer up every home in Delta, Nigeria, as well as all over the world.”

    Eid el Maulud: Emulate Prophet Muhammad on love, selflessness-Akpabio charges Muslims

    President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has charged Muslim faithful in the country and in the Diaspora to be inspired by Prophet Muhammad’s virtues of harmony, love and service to humanity as they celebrate his birthday.

    Akpabio made the call in a message to celebrate Muslims on the feast of Id el Maulud, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh.

    “Distinguished Muslim brothers and sisters, on behalf of my family, constituents and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I extend warm felicitations to you all on the occasion of Eid el Maulud, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians, especially  Muslims, to use the  2023 Eid-el Maulud day celebration for intensive and fervent prayers to  Almighty Allah for His divine intervention in the affairs of Nigeria.

    The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Wednesday, urged  Nigerians to use the occasion to reinforce the bond of unity, love, and respect for one another, especially at this critical time in the life of the nation.

    “Eid-el Maulud, the celebration of the birth of Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) offers humanity an anchor in God’s love and willingness to guide mankind through obedience to His Will, righteousness, peace, and eternal redemption.”

    Ologunagba called on Nigerians, especially those holding sensitive public offices and whose decisions were central to the entrenchment of justice, equity, and the rule of law in the nation, to use the occasion to imbibe the fear of God.

    “They should imbibe the fear of Go in line with the teachings of the Holy Prophet, as this is the only to guarantee peace and stability in the polity.

    “Such officials must note that positions are given by the Almighty Allah and that all their actions will be accounted for before Him.

    “The PDP felicitates with Nigerians and wishes them a happy Eid-el Maulud celebration,” Ologunagba said

    FG declares Wednesday public holiday

    The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, September 27, as public holiday in commemoration of the Eid El-Maulud celebration.

    TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Eid El-Maulud signifies the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

    The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja.

    Tunji-Ojo congratulated the Muslim Ummah both home and in diaspora for witnessing the occasion.

    He admonished Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of love, patience, tolerance and perseverance which were deep spiritual virtues that the Holy Prophet exemplified.

    The minister also urged Nigerians, especially the youth to embrace the virtues of hard work and peaceful disposition to fellow humans, irrespective of faith, ideology, social class and ethnicity.

    He also enjoined them to join hands with President Bola Tinubu’s led administration in its effort to build a progressive and enviable nation that Nigerians would be proud of.

    Tunji-Ojo wished the Muslim Ummah a joyful celebration.

    Eid-el-Maulud: A period of soul-searching and thanksgiving – Umahi

    Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has enjoined Muslims worldwide to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud as a period of rejuvenation and revaluation of love and peaceful coexistence among all human beings, noting that it is a period of soul-searching and thanksgiving.

    The governor stated this in a press release through his Special Assistant (Media & Strategy), Chooks Oko.

    According to Umahi, “It is the marking of the birthday of a most great personality that stands for love, peace and tolerance and as such should be a period for us to ask ourselves if we are living according to his dictates.
    As you celebrate, do so in happiness with a resolve to be closer to the Almighty in words and deeds”

    He wished them unmitigated celebrations in strict adherence to the Holy book.

    Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, has urged the Muslim faithful and Nigerians to uphold the holy virtues of peace, unity and love, for the progress of Nigeria.

    Obi made the call while felicitating with the Muslim faithful on their celebration of Eid-El-Maulud, which commemorates the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammed.

    He posited that the Holy Prophet Muhammed upheld the virtues of peace and love, and called on Nigerians to cherish and pursue peace and love among one another.

    “I felicitate with the Muslim faithful in Nigeria on this occasion of Eid-El-Maulud in commemoration of the birthday of the holy Prophet Muhammed. May this celebration remind us of the need to love and care for one another, according to the virtues of the holy Prophet Muhammed.

    Recall that Obi served as governor of Anambra from March to November 2006, February to May 2007, and from June 2007 to March 2014.

    In May 2022, he became the Labour Party candidate for President of Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election, after defecting from the PDP.

    Obi’s presidential campaign has been described as populist and has been noted for its support among many young Nigerians,[ who have been nicknamed “Obi-dients”

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that the history of the Eid El Maulud celebration goes back to the early days of Islam when some of the Tabi‘un began to hold sessions in which poetry and songs composed to honour Muhammad were recited and sung to the crowds.

    It has been said that the first Muslim ruler to officially celebrate the birth of Muhammad in an impressive ceremony was Muzaffar al-Din Gökböri.  The Ottomans declared it an official holiday in 1588, known as Mevlid Kandil.

    The Deputy Minority Whip in the Federal House of Representatives, Abdul-Majid Adekoya, has enjoined Muslim faithful to imbibe the spirit of love, kindness and peace at Eid-el-Maulud.

    Adekoya spoke in a statement issued in Ago Iwoye on Tuesday by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Taiwo Nodiru.

    Adekoya, representing Ijebu North, Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, felicitated with the entire Muslim world on the occasion of the 2021 celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammed.

    The lawmaker urged the global Muslim community to always uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammed.

    He called on Muslim faithful to always embrace the spirit of forgiveness and support for the less privileged in the society.

    Adekoya charged them to be tolerant with non Muslims and also shun any act that could lead to religious crises, saying “Islam is a religion of peace.”

    He promised to ensure that more dividends of democracy cuts across his federal constituency .

    He appreciated the League of Imams and Alfas across Ijebu Land for their continuous prayers and support while promising to always uphold the tenets of Islam as a federal lawmaker.

    President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with Muslims all over the world on the occasion of Eid-el Maulud 2020 celebrations, an observance to mark the birthday of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad.

    Celebrated on the third month in the Islamic calendar, the 2020 observance of Eid-el Maulud began in the evening of Wednesday, 28 October and ends in the evening of Thursday, 29 October, 2020.

    In his message to Islamic faithful, Buhari urged Muslims to use the occasion to rededicate themselves to showing love and understanding to one another.

    “As Muslims all over the world mark Eid-el-Maulud, I urge us all to use the occasion to rededicate ourselves to showing love and understanding to one another; and exhibiting patience, honesty, sincerity, kindness and generosity in all our undertakings,” Buhari stated via his official Twitter handle.

    Eid-el-Maulud: Buhari preaches love, understanding

    President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud to reflect on the virtues of the Holy Prophet by demonstrating love and understanding for fellow citizens.

    The president gave the charge in a Maulud message released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, on Wednesday in Abuja.

    Muslims all over the world celebrate the day to mark the birth of Prophet Mohammed (SAW).

    He enjoined the Muslim Ummah and other citizens to always exhibit the virtues of patience, honesty, sincerity, kindness and generosity in all their undertakings.

    The president urged all citizens, and the youth, in particular, to shun all negative tendencies as manifested in the recent hijacking of peaceful protests to loot and destroy public and private property.

    He also reiterated his earlier promise to bring Police officers responsible for misconduct, as well as looters of the nation’s treasury, to justice.

    On the COVID-19 pandemic, Buhari said that the country had so far managed the problem successfully by keeping the numbers as low as possible.

    He, however, cautioned that Nigerians must not stretch their luck too far.

    “Looking at the trends in the other countries, we must do all we can to avert the second wave of the pandemic. We must make sure that our cases, which have gone down, do not rise again.

    ”Our economy is too fragile to bear another round of lockdown.”

    The president, therefore, advised Nigerians to continue to observe the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing, wearing of face masks and washing of hands.
