  • “My wife is stronger than I am, she beats me at will,” husband tells court

“My wife is stronger than me and she has turned me into a punching bag,” a man, Lukman Owolabi, told a Customary Court sitting in Ikole in Ekiti State on Thursday.

The wife had filed a suit seeking the dissolution of their 23-year-old marriage over constant fighting and threat to life.

However, the husband, who denied beating his wife, told the court his wife was one who had been beating him, saying “she is stronger than me.”

“My wife beats me whenever we fight because she has power more than me.”

Owolabi, who said the marriage had produced six children of between ages six and 22, urged the court to dissolve the union.

Apart from the vexed issue of constant beating by the wife and threat to life, the estranged couple also wanted the court to intervene in a landed property to ascertain the legitimate owner between them.

The wife, Esther, who operates a restaurant and bar in the town, claimed ownership of the land, while the husband insisted the land belongs to him.

The President of the court, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, fixed further hearing for Feb. 13.

  • You can’t occupy state properties for free, pay up or be evicted in 7 days – Fayose tells federal agencies

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has warned federal agencies occupying houses belonging to the State Government to comply with the State Government’s directive to either buy the properties they are presently occupying or pay rent on them.

The governor reiterated the need for the federal agencies to pay up as they are yearly given budget allocations to cover up for such expenses.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Governor Ayodele Fayose’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the government disclosed that some of the agencies had purchased the properties they were occupying while others like National Population Commission (NPC) had promised to pay next week.

The statement read in part: “Yearly, budgetary provisions are made for payment of rent by federal government agencies, which has no permanent offices across the 36 States of the federation and we wonder why those that have been occupying properties belonging to the Ekiti State government

“As at today, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) have paid N5.5 million and N10.8 million respectively for outright purchase of the properties they are occupying.

“Even the NSCDC is already offering to pay N18 million instead of the N27 million it ought to pay.

“The Nigerian Prison Service, which is occupying properties valued at N108 million is insisting that it won’t pay and we have given a seven-day ultimatum for all the federal agencies to either purchase the properties, pay rent or quit.‎

“We are yet to evict them. We gave them notice of one year and we have now giving another seven days. There is no going back.”

  • Ekiti APC blasts Pastor Adeboye over support for Fayose, alleges bribery

Ekiti APC blasts Pastor Adeboye over support for Fayose, alleges bribery

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has expressed its displeasure over comments made by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Adeboye commending the State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, for what he called the governor’s courage and willingness to defend his people and the cause of the common man in the country.

The party said it was alarmed that a cleric of Pastor Adeboye’s standing could praise Governor Fayose for his persistent insults and abuses on President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that Pastor Adeboye should be seen as speaking for himself and his comment must not be seen as representing that of the entire members of the RCCG.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday and signed by State Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, the party alleged that Fayose could have bribed Pastor Adeboye with huge amount of money to get such endorsement, which they are now circulating everywhere.

Recall that Pastor Adeboye had during his tour of the country to the state as part of the church’s annual ‘Let’s Go A Fishing” programme, said to Fayose: “We thank God for your courage, for your boldness, we thank God for your being willing to take risks so that your people can be protected. You have been a governor who knows when to say enough is enough in defence of his people. And I’m sure you know what I’m talking about and I am sure the world knows. I don’t want to say more than that but be assured that we are praying for you and you will succeed in Jesus name.”

Awe said Governor Fayose is a man that can bribe even angel of God to endorse the devil, warning Pastor Adeboye to avoid what will make the people of Ekiti to rise against him.

The APC said that Pastor Adeboye choosing this period of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ to embark on praise singing of a character like Fayose is to say the least, preposterous.

The party chairman called on members of the RCCG, especially families of the founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi to call Pastor Adeboye to order before he destroys the church with his involvement in politics.

He said Pastor Adeboye must not be allowed to destroy the legacies of the founder of the Redeemed Church and the entire members of the church.

Awe said Pastor Adeboye should be reminded that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, is a staunch member of the RCCG and what is expected of the Cleric was support for members of his church, not praise singing of Fayose.
