Man kills friend over 30 naira in Ekiti

According to report, Ajayi, who hailed from Itapa Ekiti and his killer, Potable, were best of friends.

According to Dailypost Potable was the best man during Ajayi’s wedding in 2014.

However, the bond of friendship was broken on Sunday afternoon during a misunderstanding between Potable and Ajayi over the sum of thirty naira.

Witnesses said the argument had already been resolved and Ajayi had taken his seat to continue with his beer unknown to him that his friend had gone to break a bottle, with which he stabbed him on several places, including his neck.

Though Ajayi was rushed to the hospital, it was late as he gave up the ghost.

  • Why there is insecurity in Nigeria- Obasanjo

Why there is insecurity in Nigeria- Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has blamed insecurity in the country on access to weapons after the Nigerian civil war and unemployment.

Speaking virtually on Monday, as Chairman, at the 2022 annual lecture of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, with the theme, ‘Beyond Boko Haram: Addressing insurgency, banditry and kidnapping across Nigeria,’ he stated that beyond the crisis caused by the controversial Sharia law, unemployment was also contributing to insurgency in the country.

The former President also said that his fear about Boko Haram had materialised with the group’s links to international terrorists organisations.

Obasanjo said, “The insecurity in the country was caused by the ease of access to weapons after the civil war, and since then, we have been unable to address the issue; it keeps getting worse.

“In 2011 when Boko Haram was just showing its ugly head, I went to Maiduguri to try and find out a little bit more about Boko Haram and to also find out what their objective was, apart from being interested in Sharia. They also complained that their followers had no jobs and stated their efforts to get something legitimate to help their members.

Obasanjo also called on the old generation of Nigerians to give way for the younger generation to build a prosperous nation.

According to him, rather than compete, the old generation should collaborate with younger people and provide them with the requisite knowledge and experience to transform the country.

During the event, the guest speaker and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, suggested a national response to stem the tide of insecurity in Nigeria.

Also, the Chief Executive Officer, MMF, Aisha Mohammed-Oyebode, said the organisation was committed to improving the socio-economic development of Africa in line with the dreams of her father and late Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed.

She said the MMF, through its programmes, “has made notable impacts in the lives of people, especially the marginalised, disadvantaged and vulnerable, in addition to contributing to promoting good governance and empowerment in line with its vision and mission.”

Obasanjo, in a veiled reference to the old generation of politicians jostling for the Presidency in 2023, was responding to the lecture by Fayemi that he was in primary school when the late Murtala Mohammed directed the affairs of the country.

The former President said, “We need to have an intergenerational collaboration. Fayemi said he was in primary school when Murtala and Obasanjo were there. So, if people of the Murtala/Obasanjo era are competing with you as governor, then, something is wrong.

“The Murtala/Obasanjo group should be stepping aside. Whatever experience and knowledge we have, we should be able to give it to you and you should be able to give it to those coming after you, so that whatever you have, you are passing it down to those who are coming behind and not to start competing with you, but to make you have access to what will make Nigeria better.”

Just In: Fmr Ekiti Gov, Oni finally pitches tent with SDP

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni has finally joined the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Ekiti to contest the June 18, 2022 guber race.

Oni, revealed this in a chat with the Private radio, Voice FM 89.9, Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.

He said he is finalising discussions with the national leadership of SDP to get the governorship ticket.

The runner up of the just concluded Ekiti State governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) revealed that after thoroughly finalising discussions with the SDP national leadership will be declared open.

Oni said that his decision to dump PDP for SDP was hinged on the alleged manipulation that characterised the just- concluded party’s governorship primary, which produced Otunba Bisi Kolawole who is believed to be the preferred aspirant of Ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The former Governor is expected to lead his followers across the 177 wards in the State to SDP on Saturday.

Oni said “ the decision was informed by the undemocratic manner the just concluded governorship primary was conducted by Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel to favour Ex-Governor Ayodele Fayose’s anointed aspirant.

“So, the opposition PDP that proud itself as the most democratic political party in Africa is not yet ready to change its usual ways of imposition and godfatherism”.

Ekiti: I’ve not defected to any party for now, Fmr Gov Segun Oni insists

After dumping the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), former Ekiti Governor Segun Oni has said he has not moved to a new party yet.

TheNewsGuru.com, (TNG) recalls that after the controversial Ekiti PDP Congress that shoved Into aside, the social media last week was agog with stories that Oni had defected to APGA.

Oni denied the speculation milling round
that he has pitched his tents with the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA), describing it as absolute falsehood and handiwork of mischief makers.

In a statement on Sunday by the Director of Media and Publicity of Engr Segun Oni Movement, Jackson Adebayo, the former Governor said he was party less at the moment.

Oni dismissed as puerile and barefaced lies the rumour that he has joined APGA as well as pulled out of the party again, adding it was part of calculated attempts by those who are being threatened by his soaring popularity.

  • Ekiti Guber race: Former Gov. Segun Oni quits PDP, may pick APGA ticket soon

Ekiti Guber race: Former Gov. Segun Oni quits PDP, may pick APGA ticket soon

The build up to June 18 gubernatorial election in Ekiti, on Saturday, assumed further dimension as former Gov. Segun Oni, announced his withdrawal from the leading opposition People’s Democratic Party(PDP), in Ekiti.
Spokesman for Segun Oni Movement, Mr. Adebayo Jackson, confirmed the development to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, saying his resignation is with immediate effect.
Jackson said the decision by Oni and his entire political structure to leave PDP, was taken at stakeholders’ meeting, held at Oni’s residence in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the State, earlier in the day.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former governor is, however, yet to clarify his next party of choice, though fingers are pointing at the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
According to Jackson, Chief Oni yielded to pressures from majority of Ekiti people, who are desirous of returning him back to the Government House, “under any political party”.
Jackson, a former Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the State, hinted that the former governor would not only be leaving PDP with hundreds of his supporters and followers, his resignation from the party is also with immediate effect.
“I can confirm to you that His Excellency, Engr. Segun Oni has finally resigned from the PDP.
“All the people of Ekiti have decided that they want Segun Oni as gubernatorial candidate on any political platform. And he had harkened to the calls.
“In fact, it was the image of Oni that has been promoting the image of PDP in Ekiti State. And once the PDP has decided to kill itself, we have to take a bow and leave.
“Ekiti people will not leave Oni alone to go like that because they can’t see any other person that can deliver what Oni has been doing for them.
“So, it is the voice of the people and not the voice of anybody. As it is now, both PDP and APC will be contesting against the people of Ekiti. And the symbol of the people of Ekiti State is Engr. Oni”, Jackson said.
Corroborating him, in a separate interview, former Director of Segun Oni Campaign Organization, Lanre Ogunsuyi, said the former governor’s exit followed the high degree of injustice meted to Oni by some powerful forces in the party during the Jan. 26 primary election.
“We have just said bye bye to PDP, and His Excellency thanked all the people that worked with him and dissolved all the structures that ran the purported primary in PDP.
“What we have now is a confluence of people, called ‘Segun Oni Movement’. And by next week, we should have sorted ourselves out, in line with INEC timetable.
“It is normal to speculate about politicians especially a politician of Oni’s stature. He is a former governor and he has just left PDP. What is certain is that we have left PDP, but we are not certain about where we are going,” he said.
On why Oni left PDP, he said, “Because PDP is a cult. Oni has been consistent in the search for truth. Truth in Nigerian politics means you will be persecuted and all that, and that is all that has been happening.
“When you are consistently in the search of truth and fair play, those things have no value in Nigerian politics,” he said.

Bamidele, 6 other gov aspirants withdraw from APC primary poll in Ekiti

Seven governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have withdrawn from the party’s primary election in Ekiti state.

The aspirants — Kayode Mojo, Demola Popoola, Femi Bamisile, Bamidele Faparusi, Dayo Adeyeye, Opeyemi Bamidele and Afolabi Oluwasola — alleged that the primary election committee is made up of loyalists of Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti governor.

They alleged that Fayemi is making an attempt to foist Biodun Oyebanji, a governorship aspirant, as the party’s governorship standard-bearer in the state.

In a statement on Thursday, the aspirants said there is no way the exercise will be fair with the calibre of people sitting on the primary election committees.

“The seven aspirants herein received with rude shock and dismay the purported list of local government election committee and ward election committee made up solely by party members and political appointees that had before now openly endorsed the candidacy of Biodun Oyebanji the immediate past secretary to the state government,” they said.

“It is on record that the government of Governor Kayode Fayemi has given its unwavering support to the candidacy of Biodun Oyebanji, it is common knowledge that the governor and most appointees of the governor are openly rooting for and supporting Biodun Oyebanji’s aspiration to become the flag bearer of our great party.

“What is more disturbing is the fact that a simple glance at the names of the persons appointed as members of both committees would reveal that it is made up of appointees of government who are all supporters of a candidate in the primary election they are appointed to superintend on.”

The aspirants asked the party to reconstitute the primary election committees across the state.

BREAKING: Senator Olujimi pulls out of Ekiti guber race

The lawmaker representing Ekiti South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Biodun Olujimi, has voluntarily pulled out from the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Paty (PDP) in the state.

Olujimi is one of the aspirants gunning for the PDP ticket in the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.

On why she decided to quit, the senator cited gender bias and an unfair resolution of matters arising from a lingering controversial congress of the party.

According to her, the list to be used for the primary puts her at a disadvantage as her local government is left with only 12 delegates as decided by the party leadership.

Tension has been rife in the state over the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

The PDP primary scheduled for Wednesday is set to commence as eight aspirants are out to contest for the party’s ticket in the 2022 Governorship election.
