… supporting APC’s choice a wise decision, Imo Gov tells Members-Elect

The chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, and executive Governor of Imo State, South East Nigeria, Senator Hope Uzodinma has said that the Forum has resolved to back the choice of the party for the Speakership and Deputy Speakership positions of the incoming 10th House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Kalu Esq..

The Governor made the disclosure when he hosted the campaign team of the Abbas/Kalu joint ticket, led by the Joint Task –10th Assembly Coalition at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge on Monday evening in Asokoro Abuja.

He said the party has made the best choice of presiding officers for the House and the least the Governors should do is to ensure that the party’s preference and vision is actualized come June 13th.

The Governor commended members of the coalition who are drawn from the 8 political parties that won seats in the 10th House, saying they made the right decision to support the joint ticket.

“I congratulate you once more for the success you achieve in the last election and to commend you for coming together to form an alliance towards the speakership race. You have taken a good decision to support these two gentlemen. What we are practicing today is democracy and APC is the ruling party and you have a responsibility now to help the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to succeed, and we all know that the most sensitive arm of government is the legislature and if we make a mistake with it the other two arms will be affected.

“If the parliament is right, the government will be right, and I want to urge you to reach out to those who are aggrieved to persuade them to see the reason to agree with us. When you have a situation such as this, you will tell others your party is the best and in this instance, APC is in the majority and we have to demonstrate maturity by forging a common front in unity.

He urged aggrieved aspirants to close ranks with the party’s preferred candidates and work together to determine a purposeful legislature capable of promoting and projecting the overall interest of Nigerians, adding that Abbas’ choice by the party was not an imposition.

“There’s no such thing as imposition, it’s for the benefits of all of us, and the synergy will help us to achieve more for our people back home. If you say that it means you’re willing and ready to disagree with the majority including the government. We know you have the power of appropriation, but when you appropriate, what about cashbacking?

“You certainly don’t want to go home after four years and tell your people you couldn’t achieve anything because you were not co-operating with the executive for their benefit, but when you work in harmony, you will reap the benefits of the cooperation and your people back home will be the better for it,” the Governor admonished.

Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the Governor said himself and his colleagues have resolved to demonstrate maturity and work with the choice of the party, saying that the duo of Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu represent the best in the present circumstance.

He said the National Assembly is not about what zone produces a presiding officer, but about who’s capable of handling the dynamic of current socioeconomic situations the masses have found themselves in, and that the progressive governors forum is confident that Hon. Abbas and Kalu will deliver to Nigerians the kind of legislature that engenders economic rejuvenation of the masses, social infrastructure such as quality schools, healthcare and security using instrumentality of laws that they will pass.

Earlier, the APC Speakership candidate and his Deputy, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and Hon. Benjamin Kalu, as well as the South East Zonal chairman of Joint Task – 10th Assembly, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji who is of the PDP commended the Governor for hosting the team and assuring them of the colleagues’ resolve to support the project.

They reiterated their readiness to ensure a united 10th Assembly and work towards actualizing the programmes and policies of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration, bearing in mind the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.

Specifically, Hon Abbas expressed confidence in the ability of the Progressive Governors to ensure that the team as endorsed by the party is delivered come June 13th, adding that the hope of the common man rests on it as far as productive representation is concerned.

The Deputy speakership candidate, Hon. Benjamin Kalu in his comment thanked Governor Uzodinma for throwing his weight behind the ticket, saying that he trusts in his love for the parliament, being a product of the legislature himself.

Kalu explained that his candidature wasn’t an individual recognition, but a mandate of the entire South East, to be on the new team of leaders upon whom the task of providing positive change in the lives of Nigerians has been entrusted.

10th NASS: Leadership Centre endorses Abass, Kalu for speakership positions

    …donates N5m

…vows to lobby for their emergence

…as Ikenga declares that both aspirants have over 220 Reps-elect support

A Civil Society Organization, known as the Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDC) has endorsed the All Progressive Congress, APC anointed candidates, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas and Hon. Benjamin Kalu for Speaker, Deputy Speaker respectively.

Members of the leadership center who announced their endorsement when they paid a courtesy visit to the Communication Adviser to Tajudeen Ben Kalu movement group, (TBK) Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, at its headquarters in Abuja, revealed that they will making a massive donation of N5 million to the duo’s campaign.

Addressing Ugochinyere, ILDC country heads, High Chief Ugochukwu Nnam and Bashir Abubakar Shehu said after taking time to study all aspirants, they come to conclusion that the ruling party made the right choice in choosing Abass and Kalu to be the presiding officers of the 10th House.

ILDC described the duo as calm , intelligent men who have right educational background and legislative experience for the positions.

According to the group, Abass and Kalu from their legislative track record shows that they are core parliamentarians who over the years took their jobs seriously.

While noting that the duo’s achievements have placed them above other aspirants, the group appealed to the aggrieved aspirants to sheath their swords and support Abass and Kalu.

He added that aside the monetary donation they will be lobbying more Lawmakers to support the duo.

He said, “The time when lawmakers will elect the next leadership of the National Assembly is almost here. We are here as citizens who care about our nation. The development of any nation depends on the kind of leaders we elect. I believe the national working committee of the APC did a thorough research before arriving on the decision of Abass and Kalu as Speaker, Deputy Speaker.

“The duo’s achievements have placed them among the best. They have sponsored the highest number of bills in the lower chamber in the history of Nigeria. Also their performances in their previous offices and contributions to democracy in the country is equally admirable. We urge the aggrieved aspirants to be like their colleagues Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Hon. Abubakar Makki Yalleman, and Hon. Abdulhameed Olawuyi and jettison their ambitions and support Abass and Kalu. Aside the endorsement we will be donating N5 million and also lobby more Lawmakers to support them. We have made commitment to meet all members elect to lobby them to vote Tajudeen and Kalu. We will consult our representatives, it’s the ticket we have seen that has competence and inclusiveness. They are young and competent and we believe they turn around the image of the National Assembly for good.”

Receiving the group, Ugochinyere who’s also a member-elect representing Ideato North South Federal Constituency, expressed optimism that Abass and Kalu will be victorious, saying that they are currently enjoying support of over 200 members-elect.

While thanking them for their support, he told the group Abass and Kalu state caucuses meeting to consolidate victory will start today.

Ugochinyere said, “You’re all welcomed, I appreciate the commitment your group has shown in helping to lobbying other members elect for the success of this event. More importantly is coming all the way to show evidence of that support and believing in their candidacy, I pray God will help us in achieving this. It’s important I highlight some facts about tajudeen and Kalu their background so you understand the kind of leadership to expect. Abass was a lecturer, before he came to the National Assembly and has chaired different committees, currently chairing land transport. When you check the primary responsibility of a lawmaker which is to make law, he’s number one. This is facts not a propaganda, he has over 74 impactful bills to his name with 21 signed into law.

Kalu the deputy Speaker aspirant, has held admirable leadership positions before coming to House of Representatives and as a first timer he became the image maker of the house. He marketed the image of the house well, with over 40 bills to his name, he has the rich legislative experience to be Deputy Speaker. With his background as a lawyer, he will effectively chair the constitutional amendment committee. This ticket is important because we have competence, inclusivity and they will help ensure a country that works. They are very committed. Like you said earlier the success of any administration depends largely on the kind of National Assembly leadership in place. We maybe from Opposition Parties but to have a productive, stable and united 10th House of Representatives we will give President Tinubu the required support and cooperation.

“And the ruling party made the right choice in selecting Abass and Kalu as Speaker Deputy Speaker candidates. While many of their colleagues were focused on things that are probably for their personal gains, Abass and Kalu focused on their core mandate, the main objective of their coming to the national assembly. It is only appropriate that members-elect of the 10th House queue behind Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu to deliver the good governance for the benefit of Nigerians.”

  • Mind your tongue before you set Nigeria on fire, APC chieftain cautions El-Rufai

Mind your tongue before you set Nigeria on fire, APC chieftain cautions El-Rufai

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau state, Samuel Kwamkur, on Sunday warned former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, not to set Nigeria on fire with his unguarded utterances.

Kwankur, who is a former National Director of the Christian Association of Nigeria, stated this at a press conference in Jos on Sunday.

He was reacting to statements allegedly credited to the former Kaduna governor in which he allegedly told his audience before handing over to his successor that the Islamic dominance in Kaduna had been successfully replicated in Nigeria and that it shall continue.

El-Rufai, he alleged, equally told his audience that in the course of the electioneering campaigns, when “they”(Christians ) tried to ask questions on why the Muslim/Muslim Ticket, he deceived ‘them’ that it was not for religious dominance when in reality, the tickets both nationally and at the state level were for Islamic dominance.

He alleged that in the video containing the speech which has gone viral on social media, El-Rufai further said that the victory of Bola Tinubu had silenced the Christian Association of Nigeria, adding that he will sustain an Islamic-dominated government for 20 years and unending not only in Kaduna State but in Nigeria at large

But Kwankur, while reacting to El-Rufai’s outburst, expressed disappointment at the utterances of the former governor, noting that the classification of the citizens of his state as ‘them’ versus us’ meant that the former governor cannot be exonerated from “the wanton killings, demolition of houses and places of worship of Christians in Kaduna”.

Kwankur said he was surprised that El-Rufai who was contemplated as one of the qualified persons to be appointed as the Chief of Staff to Mr President or Secretary to the Government of the Federation had turned himself into a “confirmed religious bigot with a hidden agenda to destroy the country using religion”.

He advised El-Rufai not to use his utterances to mislead Nigerians into thinking that President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory was purposely to islamise Nigeria and nothing else.

He advised El-Rufai not to use his utterances to mislead Nigerians into thinking that President Bola Tinubu’s electoral victory was purposely to islamise Nigeria and nothing else.

The former National Director of CAN said “Ordinarily, I have heard Islamic clerics preach that Tinubu’s Muslim/ Muslim ticket is in furtherance of an Islamisation agenda, and despite that, I am one of those who contributed in discouraging Christians and Nigerians from accepting such as true because I believed in the antecedents and character of His Excellency Ahmed Bola Tinubu but hearing from a political leader like El-Rufai, a close associate of Tinubu and Shettima, an active participant in the campaign who was contemplated as one of the qualified persons to be appointed as the Chief of Staff to Mr President or Secretary to the Government of the Federation confirmed that there is a hidden agenda to be mindful of

In the said address, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai spoke like one of the religious bigots that have been working underground to set the nation on fire. Amongst his ill-motivated statements which I can only paraphrase for now, El-Rufai confirmed that he is a leader of the Islamic terrorist group operating in the Sambisa forest albeit disguising himself as a governor in a complex nation like Nigeria”

“Firstly, El-Rufai in his speech, wondered why he should give ‘them’ a deputy governor when most of ‘them’ cannot vote for his party. That he calculated and discovered ‘we’ can win an election without ‘them’ hence why give ‘them’ a deputy? From El-Rufai’s classification of the citizens of his state as ‘them’ versus ‘us’ one needs no angel to tell you that he cannot be exonerated from the wanton killings, demolition of houses and places of worship of Christians in Kaduna.

Secondly, Mallam El-Rufai went further to state that Islamic dominance of government in Nigeria will bring peace, Justice and fair play. He assured the gathering that he will sustain an Islamic-dominated government for 20 years and unending.

This outburst reiterates his extreme fanaticism and displays his ignorance of what constitutes justice, equity and fair play. Discrimination, ethnic profiling and all genocidal attempts to consume a race or religion constitute injustice and are recipes for anarchy and crisis.

“Thirdly, he told his audience that in the course of the electioneering campaigns, when “they” tried to ask questions on why the Muslim/Muslim Ticket, he deceives ‘them’ that it is not for religious dominance but in reality the tickets both nationally and at the state level were for Islamic dominance.

“He boasted that the Islamic dominance in Kaduna has been successfully replicated in Nigeria and it shall continue. He said further that the victory of Asiwaju has silent the Christian Association of Nigeria

The question is: is it only Muslims that voted for Asiwaju? Who voted for Atiku and Peter Obi? I guess it was only Christians! How could a sitting governor, former minister of the Federal Republic and a potential key government appointee be this callous and insensitive? I recall in one of my visits to a friend in Kaduna, he expressed his views about Mallam El-Rufai”s involvement in the killings in Kaduna and I kept arguing that he should be given the benefit of the doubt, but watching El-Rufai address the Muslim Umma, I have no doubt in my mind that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is one of those behind the unending religious crisis and insecurity in Nigeria.”

Continuing, the former CAN official added “For the record, Christianity does not practice deception as a principle or mode of operation.

The Holy Bible admonishes Christians to say the truth at all times. Christians are also taught unconditional love regardless of religion, region and background. In the Christian faith, the Holy Book frowns against religious discrimination and dominance. The definition of Justice, equity and fairness is hinged on providing platforms for the involvement of all regardless of their population, religion and tribe.

“We also believe that God is the giver of life and power; he gives to whoever He wishes and takes it at the time He so wishes. Hence boasting of any sort is an open challenge to God’s sovereignty. Being a member of the Nigeria Interreligious Council (NIREC), I have closely interfaced with respected Islamic leaders of high repute and found out that there are Muslim leaders, unlike Mallam El-Rufai who are deeply concerned about the peace, development, and growth of Nigeria without pretense.

“Truly speaking El-Rufai is a setback to the peace process that NIREC has been battling with in the midst of religious upheavals. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has exhibited blatant misuse of the trust that God gave him and confirmed that he is an extremist who has largely contributed to the pains of the very people he took an oath to protect in the guise of working for his religion.”

He urged the former governor to use the NIREC platform tom promote unity.

“One would expect El-Rufai to take advantage of such meetings to discuss the achievements of his government in developing the state and taking his people out of poverty and insecurity but ney! He wants to be celebrated as a religious hero and a Jihadist of high repute. How can our nation grow with this kind of leader in authority? Let it be known to all Nigerians that those of us Christians who supported His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu did so out of sincere hope that both himself and his Vice will work to ensure the sustainable development of Nigeria through their policies, experience and exposure.

“It should be known that we did not vote Tinubu out of El-Rufai”s deception (Taqiya) as he claimed! It should be made known to El-Rufai that against his wild imagination of achieving an Islamisation agenda through the dominance and persecution of Christians, Christianity grows better in persecution and supposed dominance. We shall continue to preach inclusiveness, equity and fair play in the true sense of these words. We shall never practice deception to cling to power. No! It is against our faith! May I use this medium to invite Mallam El-Rufai to study the nature of our God in the Book of Esther especially Chapters 6 & 7 where Haman’s plot to end the lives of the Israelites ended up consuming his own life.

For El-Rufai to think that the Asiwaju vote is a victory for Islam is very unfortunate and speaks volumes of his kind of bigotry. His outburst has destroyed the remaining respect he enjoyed from patriotic Nigerians. We call on Asiwaju to be mindful of friends, associates and politicians like El-Rufai who seek to work with him as they will do more harm to the system and the nation and nothing good can come out of such.

“May I also use this medium to call on our governors in Nigeria, particularly our Northern governors to truly work towards removing our battered citizens from poverty, insecurity and the like and ensure the provision of good healthcare and other benefits of good governance, rather than to dwell on preaching hate and religious and tribal differences. I call on our leaders to show the citizens the number of people they have empowered instead of the number of lives and property they have destroyed as is happening in Kaduna. I believe that God shall continue to expose the wolves in sheep’s clothing amongst Nigerians”

  • President Tinubu, EFCC under radar over Senator Oduah’s case as group files petition

President Tinubu, EFCC under radar over Senator Oduah’s case as group files petition

President Bola Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have been placed under the radar after a group alleged a plot to derail the arraignment on Monday of Senator Stella Oduah over the N7.9 billion alleged fraud brought against her by the commission.

A group under the aegis of Today Anti-Corruption Network, TACN, alleged that those behind the plot have forwarded a N100 million cheque as part of a plea bargain despite the failure of Senator Oduah, the principal accused to take the stand despite 13 court sessions.

The group said it was an affront to the avowed anti-corruption stance of President Tinubu and the APC administration.

The stance of the group follows the N7.9 billion charge brought against Senator Oduah, a former minister of aviation by the EFCC but for which she has failed to take a plea despite 13 court sessions.

Noting that her failure to take a plea could flow from her camp that she would never take a plea, the group in the statement said it was a direct affront to the judiciary and President Tinubu to fight corruption.

TACN in its statement issued by Engr Olufemi Austin, Director of Programme, Abdulrasheed Dandutse, General Secretary and Victor Obi Esq, Victor Obi Esq Director ,Monitoring said:

    3rd June,2023.

    Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR,

The President And Commander In Chief of Armed Forces,

    Federal Republic of Nigeria

    Aso Villa-Abuja.

    Your Excellency Sir,

PASSIONATE APPEAL FOR YOUR INTERVENTION AND URGENT CALL FOR ACTION SIR.

RE: SENATOR STELLA ODUAH “FURTHER PERFECTS” PLAN WITH HER CO “CONSPIRATORS” WITHIN AND OUTSIDE JUDICIARY TO STALL HER ARRAIGNMENT FOR THE 13TH TIMES ON 5TH OF JUNE,6TH OF JUNE,7TH OF JUNE,8TH OF JUNE AND 9TH OF JUNE BEFORE JUSTICE EKWO OF FEDERAL HIGH COURT ABUJA (CHARGE NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/316/2020) AMID ALLEGATIONS OF COMPROMISE. We are non-profitable, Non-Governmental organisation fully committed to fighting corruption in Nigeria, as well as promoting democratic ideals.

Sir, kindly note that the planned arraignment of a former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah on the N7.9bn money laundering charges on 5th June, 6th June,7th June, 8th June and 9th June 2023 may be stalled for thirteenth (13th) consecutive times before Justice Ekwo Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja.

This is because a decoy letter from Crystal Television (one of the defendants charged with Senator Oduah) to the EFCC Chairman dated 30th May, 2023, which was copied to Registrar, Federal High Court 7 Abuja promising to refund some of the alleged laundered money is to be brought up to stop her arraignment scheduled for 5th June, 6th June, 7th June and 8th June 2023.

Sir, it is most disheartening that this case was filed by EFCC on 17th December 2020 and was assignged to Justice Ekwo since then, yet she has allegedly plotted with known elements in the judiciary not to enter witness box to take her plea for 2 years and 6 months after the case was filed and until President Buhari hands over to his Successor.

This credible intelligent report explains why the planned arraignment has failed 13 times on record after EFCC finished their investigation and filed the case at Federal High Court Abuja .

Excellency sir, this well rehearsed orchestrated script and drama that have been played for the past 3 years in the Federal High Court Abuja, before Justice Ekwo is a monumental disgrace and slap to the ANTI CORRUPTION CRUSADE OF APC LED FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Despite the clear provision of the law especially section 396 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act ( ACJA 396) which provides that Defendant has to take plea first before raising PLEMINARY OBJECTION and also the clear letter of 6th May, 2022 from the office of AGF that she should take her plea, yet she did not take plea from December 2020 till date.

The letter from the learned SAN, Chief Ogwuche .J. Onoja dated 30th May, 2023 (see Annexure “A”), should not be used as another ploy for the respected Justice Ekwo Ekwo of Federal High Court Abuja to further stop Senator Stella Oduah not to enter witness box to take her plea.

We are left with no choice to believe what those around her have bragged that she will never enter witness box to take her plea so far the case is still with Justice Ekwo Ekwo.

Justice Ekwo had fixed 12th October, 2022 for her to enter witness box and take her plea but arrangement was made for some of the witnesses to be absent which automatically foisted a long adjournment to 13th February 2023.

We are at loss why the Chairman of EFCC has not directed the EFCC Prosecutors to apply to Chief Judge of Federal High Court Abuja to reassign this case (FHC/ABJ/CS/316/2020 FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA v STELLA ODUAH & 8 OTHERS) when it is very obvious that Justice Ekwo will not allow her to enter witness box to take her plea.

    PRAYER

    (1) Use your good office to liase with Chief Justice of Nigeria, Chief Judge of Federal High Court Abuja and other persons you may deem necessary to unravel the “mystery” and “reasons” that made possible that Justice Ekwo never allowed Senator Stella Oduah to be arraigned,2 years and 6 months after EFCC filed this case.

    (2) Sir, kindly direct the EFCC Chairman to advise EFCC Prosecutors to urgently apply to Chief Judge of Federal High Court Abuja for reassignment of this case to any other Judge.

Sir, please accept the assurances of our esteemed regards!

NASS leadership: Don’t be part of a rubber stamp assembly, Atiku cautions lawmakers-elect

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has tasked National Assembly members under the platform of the PDP to hold the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government to account while performing their duties and avoid being part of a rubber stamp legislature.

The PDP flag bearer in the last general elections disclosed this during a retreat organised for PDP members of the House of Representatives and Senators in Bauchi at the weekend, he warned the lawmakers not to be rubber-stampsfor the Tinubu government.

“Do not be part of rubber-stamp legislative arm for those who might want to govern as dictators. Hold the government to account and in doing so, you demonstrate that you and your party are ready to govern,” he said.

He alleged that the APC deceived Nigerians that it would be free and fair following the passage of the 2022 Electoral Act which makes provision for deployment of technology that would have made the process more transparent but proved to be otherwise.

He assured members of the party’s support through litigations to reclaim their mandate.
