    The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of Saturday’s Presidential election in Taraba state.

    The State Presidential Collation officer, Prof. Shehu Iya who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Madibo Adamawa University of Technology, Yola said Atiku polled a total of 374, 743 votes to emerge winner.

    He said President Muhammadu Buhari who is the candidate of the All Progressive Congress polled 324,906 votes to come second.

    According to him out of the total 1,777,105 registered voters in the state, 777,105 eligible voters in Taraba state were accredited, while 741, 564 votes were cast.

    Iya noted that the total number of valid votes was 712, 877 while 28, 627 votes were rejected.

    The PDP state returning officer for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, Mr Haruna Gbana in an interview expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the elections in the state.

    But his APC counterpart, Prof. Abbas Bashir faulted the electoral process, especially with the conduct of ad-hoc staff and charged the electoral umpire to make amends during the Governorship and State Assembly elections.

    Our correspondent reports that Atiku won in 10 local governments while President Buhari won in six local governments.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday announced President Muhamadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of Saturday’s presidential election in Kaduna State.

    The result was announced at the National Collation Centre Abuja, by Prof. Bello Shehu, Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, who is the Collation Officer for the election in the state.

    Shehu announced that Buhari polled 993,445 votes to defeat Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Atiku Abubakar, who scored 649,612 votes. Donald Duke of Social Democratic Party was third with 1,737 votes.

    According to him, Obadiah Mailafia of African Democratic Congress scored 558 votes, Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress polled 243 votes, while Mr Yabagi Yusuf of African Democratic Party had 227 votes.

    He said that total registered voters in Kaduna were 3,861,033 but only 1,757,868 were accredited, while total votes cast in the polls was 1,709,005 with 45,402 rejected.

    Shehu noted that votes from 85 wards with a total of 282 polling units were cancelled for various reasons which affected 189,865 voters across the 23 local government areas in the state.

    INEC declares Ogun East Senatorial election inconclusive

    The election results of Ogun East Senatorial District was on Monday declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

    The Returning Officer for Ogun East, Prof. Chris Onwuka of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), said that the decision to declare the election inconclusive was based on the principle of INEC.

    He said the election was cancelled because of over voting in Ajebandele Ward in Ijebu East Local Government where total vote cast were more than the number of accredited voters.

    There was protest within the collation centre at Ijebu-Ode Local Government Town Hall when Onwuka was about declaring Sen. Lekan Mustapha of All Progressive Party (APC) as the winner of the election.

    Mustapha polled a total vote of 84,929, his closest rival, Mr Adeola Sosanwo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), polled 82,457 votes.

    The returning officer said that there was alleged case of discrepancies in the election results.

    Onwuka said, “And if election is being conducted, it can sway decision in any direction. Based on the principle of INEC, the election is going to be declared inconclusive.

    “I have given you the logic, because the officer said he cancelled some polling units, but 13,000 is reflected here.

    “Please, the election remains inconclusive until this is cleared.”

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogun East Senatorial Districts comprised nine local government areas.

    President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will wait for the formal results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission on the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly polls, instead of relying on rumours.

    Buhari spoke shortly on arrival in Abuja from Katsina, his home state, where he spent the weekend to participate in the election.

    I don’t want to depend on rumours, but we will rather wait for INEC to announce the results”, he told the Nigerian Television Authority in Abuja

    Speaking further, he said, “Well, l hope that Nigerians will appreciate that it was this government which made sure that they were allowed in security and peace to cast their votes for whichever party and candidates they wanted.”

    The results rolling in from the 36 states show a tight race between the President and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

    Atiku beats Buhari to win Ondo State

    The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cndidate, Atiku Abubakar, has won the presidential election in Ondo State.

    Ondo State, south-Western Nigeria, is governed by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Nigeria’s ruling APC.

    In the final results announced on Monday, Abubakar of the PDP scored 275,901 votes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC who scored 241,769 votes.

    Total accredited voters were 598,586, total votes cast: 586,827, while rejected votes were 30,833

    The total number of polling units where voting was cancelled is 80. The reasons include over-voting, widespread violence, intimidation of electorate and staff, failure of card readers and outright disruption of the election,

  • Tinubu retains Lagos Central senatorial seat

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declared Sen. Oluremi Tinubu winner of February 23 election in Lagos Central Senatorial District.

    The Returning Officer, Prof. Oyeyemi Oyedola of the University of Lagos, said Mrs Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 131,735.

    She defeated Onitiri David of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 89,107 votes.

    “l, Professor Oyeyemi Elijah Oyedola, hereby certify that as the returning officer, Lagos Central Senatorial District with the election held on 23 of February 2019 that the election was contested among 14 candidates.

    “I declare that Tinubu Oluremi Shade of the APC has satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 131,735 votes,” he said.

    The INEC Electoral Officer in Lagos Island, Mr Sodiq Abubakar, lauded the security agents for their support towards ensuring a free, fair and credible election.

    Abubakar said that no causality was recorded during the period of the election and urged the stakeholders to keep it up.

    The election was conducted in five local government areas namely;, Lagos Island, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Surulere and Mainland.

    Election violence: My photographer was shot by military – Dickson

    Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, on Sunday alleged that a photographer attached to the Government House, Yenagoa, was shot, and a ward chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) killed by the military.

    Dickson alleged that the military colluded with some politicians to perpetrate the violence, which he said, characterised Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly polls in the state.

    The PDP ward chairman, Mr Seidougha Taribi and the photographer, Reginald Dei, were reportedly shot during the elections in Oweikorogha, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

    Dei is in critical condition at Diete Koki Memorial Hospital Opolo, Yenagoa, but Taribi died at the spot.

    At a news conference on Sunday, the governor commiserated with the families of all those that lost their lives to electoral violence during the polls.

    ”The two were shot by soldiers and my condolences go to the families of those that were killed.

    ”It is regrettable that people have to die because of elections and we have been advocating against electoral violence in the past eight years.

    ”I commend the people of Ekeremor and Brass, including INEC, for resisting the pressure to sabotaging the voting process, and people actually voted there for the first time.

    “Prior to this time, they have been used to hijack of the process.

    ”It shows that our advocacy for peaceful elections is paying off but unfortunately, in places like Nembe-Basambri, it was still the same old story of hijacking the electoral process and I encourage them to resist it,” he said.

    Reacting to the allegation, Spokesman of 16 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Yenagoa, Major Jonah Danjuma, said that the army was not responsible for the incident.

    He explained that troops of the Brigade had conducted an operation in Ikebiri community, in Southern Ijaw, different from where the photo-journalist and party chieftain were reportedly shot.

    ”We had no such incident; troops of 5 Battalion, 16 Brigade Nigerian Army, on Saturday arrested 15 armed men suspected to be political thugs at Ikebiri 1 in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

    ”It was a successful operation that led to the recovery of large cache of arms, ammunition and other items.

    ”This feat was achieved as a direct response by vigilant troops in Operation SAFE CONDUCT 2019 in 16 Brigade Area of Responsibility.” Danjuma said.

    Also Spokesman of the Joint Military Task Force deployed to the Niger Delta, Major Abdullahi Ibrahim, said that the Command neither deployed men to the community nor had operation at Oweikorogha, Southern Ijaw.

    Nigerian songstress, Tiwa Savage has lamented over some of the activities that happened at some polling units.

    The front-line singer said though she voted under a peaceful condition, but expressed her dissatisfaction over the crisis and snatching of ballot boxes in other units.

    Recall that TheNewsGuru had reported that the election was marred by violence and ballot boxes snatching in some areas in Lagos State.

     

    In the same vein, videos have since emerged online showing some thugs confidently moving ballot boxes from polling units while the electorates watched in amazement.

    Tiwa wrote on Twitter:” Even though it was peaceful at my voting booth, it is still very heart-breaking to see some of these videos and what happened at some other voting booths”.

     

    Nigerian rapper, Sasha also shared an update from her polling station where the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were yet to make an appearance.

    She shared this in a tweet posted on Saturday morning

    “No polling officers. Voters have been waiting since 6.40am,” she wrote.

     

     

  • Election Violence: Army arrests 15, recovers arms in Bayelsa

    The 16 Brigade of Nigerian Army in Yenagoa has arrested 15 armed thugs during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

    Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Ex-Gov. Timipre Sylva had earlier accused each other of masterminding violence that trailed the polls in the state.

    Major Jonah Danjuma, spokesman of the 16 Brigade told NAN on Saturday that several arms and ammunition, among others, were recovered from the armed hoodlum suspected to be political thugs.

    “Trops of 5 Battalion, 16 Brigade Nigerian Army today arrested 15 armed men suspected to be political thugs at Ikebiri 1 in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

    “It was a successful operation that led to the recovery of large cache of arms, ammunition and other items.

    “This feat was achieved as a direct response by vigilant troops in Operation SAFE CONDUCT 2019 in 16 Brigade Area of Responsibility.

    “There are indications that the armed men are highly suspected to be political thugs who planned to disrupt the presidential and national assembly elections in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa,” Danjuma said.

    According to the Brigade Spokesman, items recovered from them include
    one General Purpose Machine Gun, two 200 horse powered speedboats, large quantity of ammunition, 16 mobile phones and seven Motorola radio.

    Also recovered are five Motorola battery charger, three wrist watches, five torch light, four identify cards, and the sum of sixteen thousand naira.

    The Brigade restated her resolve to ensure a seamless conduct of the general election in support of the lead security agencies.

    The Brigade, however, called on the people of the state to provide credible information on the activities of criminal elements in the society.

    Election: Hoodlums kill one person in Ibadan

    One person was killed by some suspected hoodlums trying to snatch a ballot box during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Ibadan.

    An eyewitness, who identified the victim as Monsuru Hamzat, said the incident happened at Ward 2, Unit 13 and 14 Polling Centre in Ibadan South East Council area.

    The eyewitness said the hoodlums came to snatch the ballot box while counting of votes was in progress.

    Confirming the incident , the Oyo State commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, told NAN that the incident happened around 2:30 pm

    Olukolu said it was alleged that a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Taofeek Arapaja, came to the polling unit located in his family house with some hoodlums to disrupt the process.

    “The hoodlums simply identified as Akin and Etiba, who were said to have come in company with Arapaja, fired a shot which hit one Monsuru Hamzat.

    “Hamzat was rush to the hospital and eventually died,” Olukolu said.

    He said that the police had protected the remaining ballot box and INEC staff at the polling unit.

    The commissioner said another ballot box was snatched at Agodi area while one Adeyemi Ayomide in company with others were said to be involved.

    He said Ayomide was arrested while the others escaped and the ballot box was recovered.
