Twitter has fully migrated to X.com

The social network formerly known as Twitter has fully migrated over to X.com, owner Elon Musk said on Friday.

The billionaire head of Tesla, SpaceX and other companies bought Twitter for $44 billion in late 2022 and announced the rebrand to X last July.

Although the logo and branding were changed to “X”, the domain name remained Twitter.com until Friday.

“All core systems are now on X.com,” Musk wrote on X, posting an image of a logo of a white X on a blue circle.

Queries to Twitter.com redirected users to X.com on Friday morning, though the original domain name still appeared on some browsers.

Musk has repeatedly used the letter X in the branding of his companies, starting in 1999 with his attempt to set up an online financial superstore called X.com.

When he bought Twitter, he set up a company called X Corp to close the deal.
Musk has said he wants “X” to become a super-app along the lines of China’s WeChat.
The Chinese app is much bigger than X and weaves together messaging, voice and video calling, social media, mobile payment, games, news, online booking and other services.

“He would help reform the company, improve the quality of product and generally serve in the best interests of shareholders, as he has done at many other companies.

“This would significantly improve Disney’s share price.

“While I don’t own any Disney shares today, I would definitely buy their shares if Nelson were elected to the board.

BREAKING: Facebook, Instagram restored as Elon Musk ‘mocks’ Mark Zuckerberg

The full functionalities of social media apps (Facebook, Instagram and Threads), owned by Meta, founded by Mark Zuckerberg, have been restored after a reported global outage.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the global outage of Facebook, Instagram and Threads lasted for about 30 minutes but not without X owner, billionaire Elon Musk making a meal out of the outage.

Microblogging platform, X (formerly Twitter) owned by Musk shaded Facebook users who flocked the former Twitter platform to verify if the app is down or not.

TNG reported the global outage suffered by Facebook and other apps owned by Meta, including Instagram and Threads on Tuesday.

Meta, founded by Mark Zuckerberg, was yet to release an official statement on the development but the glitch has now been resolved at the time of filing this report.

Following the outage of the three apps owned by Meta, users trooped X to confirmed if their accounts have been hacked or otherwise.

“We know why you’re all here rn [right now],” X tweeted shortly after the global outage of Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

“If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working,” Elon Musk tweeted on his verified X account.

Twitter name no longer makes sense – Elon Musk

Twitter is now known as X. Elon Musk made the announcement two days back and sweeping changes regarding the new branding have been made. On the web version of Twitter, the bird has been replaced with the logo X.

Elon Musk has now given an explanation on why it didn’t make sense to call it Twitter any more.

“Twitter was acquired by X Corp both to ensure freedom of speech and as an accelerant for X, the everything app. This is not simply a company renaming itself, but doing the same thing,” he said in a tweet.

Musk further explained that it was alright to call it Twitter when it was formed.

“The Twitter name made sense when it was just 140 character messages going back and forth – like birds tweeting – but now you can post almost anything, including several hours of video,” he explained.

Musk also hinted at the big changes that will come to the app, which was formerly known as Twitter.

“In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world,” he said.

In the past, the Twitter owner has expressed interest in making Twitter — now known as X — as the ‘everything’ app. Twitter has introduced a lot of video-related features in the last few months.

Musk has also encouraged content creators to work on developing content for his app.

“The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird,” he explained in the tweet.

We aren’t sure if the content posted on X will still be called tweets or Musk has some plans to rename that as well.

Telecoms adds N2.5 trillion to Nigeria’s GDP as NCC issues licence to Elon Musk’s SpaceX

Telecommunications and ICT services contributed N2.508 trillion to Nigeria’s GDP in the first quarter of 2023, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) stated on Thursday.

NCC quoted figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in a statement issued by its Director, Public Affairs, Mr Reuben Muoka.

“Telecoms contribution to GDP was calculated from 46 distinct sectors of the economy, which constitute telecoms and information services baskets.

“The Nigerian telecoms industry has continued to show a positive outlook, which is credited to the innovative and predictable telecoms regulatory environment implemented by the NCC.

“One of the key highlights of the telecoms industry performance within the period was the generation of 820.8 million dollars for the Federal Government from 5G spectrum licences fees.

“The fees were paid by three operators, MTN, MAFAB and Airtel,’’ Muoka stated.

He added that following the issuance of the licences in December 2021, MTN and MAFAB already launched 5G services, while Airtel, which received its licence in December 2022, is set to launch the service in June.

The NCC spokesman stated also that another major development in the sector was the launch of Starlinks broadband services, a satellite-based wireless broadband service with potential nationwide coverage.

He added that this followed the issuance of licence to Elon Musk-owned SpaceX by the NCC, noting that the services were now available in different parts of the country.

Muoka stressed that the growth statistics of the telecoms industry were showing impressive record of contributions to the Nigerian economy.

He stated that the number of phone subscribers in Nigeria as at April 2023 stood at 223.6 million.

Number of Internet subscribers for the same period was 157 million, while broadband subscriptions stood at 92 million, Muoka added.
