Legendary British musician, Elton John, has lost his eyesight.
At the premiere of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ The Musical in London on Sunday, December 1, the 77-year-old pianist revealed that while he couldn’t see the show, he thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.
Addressing the theatre audience, the award-winning singer expressed his gratitude for his husband’s support during difficult times.
He said, “As some of you may know I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed it.
“To my husband, who has been my rock because I have not been able to come to many of the previews.
“It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight.”
The music icon had earlier shared that he lost vision in one eye after contracting a severe eye infection during his vacation.
John is one of the best-selling artists of all time, renowned for iconic hits like Your Song, Rocket Man, and I’m Still Standing.
Over a career spanning six decades, he has sold more than 300 million records worldwide.
His accolades include five Grammy Awards, five Brit Awards (including Outstanding Contribution to Music), two Academy Awards, and two Golden Globes.
Glastonbury Festival is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Pilton, Somerset, England. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts.
The 75-year-old singer (Elton) was the first headlining artist announced for the festival on Friday, with Elton set to take the Pyramid stage next summer.
Speaking of Friday’s announcement, Elton said: ‘I couldn’t be more excited to headline the Pyramid Stage. As my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour draws to a close, there is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans. They have been beyond brilliant and have supported me through all the ups and downs of my career.
“I talk to new artists on my radio show every week and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers – the festival’s genuine and enthusiastic support for the best emerging talent is something I have long admired.
“I’ve been talking to Emily Eavis about it for the past few weeks and I can’t wait to get into the spirit of the world’s biggest festival. It’s going to be incredibly emotional,” Elton asserted.
Glastonbury co-organizer, Emily Eavis, said: “I am delighted to inform you that the one and only Elton John will be making his first Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night next year.
“This will be the last UK show of Elton’s final tour, so we’re closing the Festival and marking this great moment in our stories with the mother of all goodbyes. We are so happy to finally bring Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!.”

It never made any sense having a queen and yet she, Elizabeth, somehow rose above all the debate around privilege or political controversy in a life stoically devoted to public service and duty. Eight decades of public life. A woman of importance.
Princess of pop, Britney Spears and British singer, Elton John, have officially announced a duet called “Hold Me Closer,”
Spears will join forces with music maestro (Elton John) on a new single, the record company releasing the track said Monday.
The pair — who between them have 90 years’ experience in the music business — will collaborate on “Hold Me Closer,” Interscope Records said.
There were no further details, including when the track would be released, but it will be the first new music from Spears since the middle of the last decade.
TheNewsGuru.com reports that the title of the song comes from the lyrics of the early 1970s hit “Tiny Dancer,” which John co-wrote with long-time creative partner Bernie Taupin.
The news comes after days of online speculation from fans that the pair would be teaming up.
It also comes just weeks after Spears announced a long-wished-for pregnancy had ended in a miscarriage.
The pregnancy, with Sam Asghari, came five months after a Los Angeles judge dissolved a conservatorship overseen by Spears’s father — an arrangement the singer said had prevented her from having a contraceptive IUD removed despite her desire for more kids.
Aside from her very public legal battle with her father, the “Baby One More Time” singer has mostly only been seen on her social media account in recent years.
She has not given an interview in years, rarely makes public appearances and last performed in October 2018.
The superstar, who first came to public attention as a child in 1992, dropped four studio albums under the conservatorship, most recently 2016’s “Glory.”
She also was among the singers to stage wildly lucrative Las Vegas residencies in recent years. Her four-year “Britney: Pieces of Me” run grossed a reported $138 million.
But in January 2019, she abruptly canceled her planned return to Vegas, going on indefinite professional hiatus.
The multi-award-winning John — properly Sir Elton John — is one of Britain’s most bankable stars, whose showmanship and musicality have left their mark on the performing arts.
Since he first emerged in 1962, the singer — born Reginald Dwight — has been responsible for some of the most recognizable tunes in pop, including “Rocket Man,” “Your Song” and “I’m Still Standing.”
Renowned singer, Elton John has called out the Vatican over its recent decree that Catholic Church won’t give its blessing to gay marriages.
TheNewsGuru recalls that on Monday, the Vatican finally reacted to investigations bordering on whether or not Catholic clerics have the authority to bless same-sex unions.
In a two-page response signed by Pope Francis, the Vatican had described gay sex as “intrinsically disordered,” adding that the church would not support it.
It, however, reiterated the church’s inclusive approach towards those belonging to the LGBT community.
However in his reaction, John accused the Vatican of “hypocrisy”.
The crooner also questioned the Vatican’s stance when it “happily makes profit from investing millions” in initiatives promoting same-sex unions.
“How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they “are sin”, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in “Rocketman” – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David?? #hypocrisy,” he wrote.
The Vatican has been under intense criticisms over alleged misappropriation of funds donated for the poor after a probe into its expenditures.
In 2019, the Vatican was alleged to have spent $4.5 million on John’s movie as well as ‘Men in Black: International’, another hit movie.
Renowned musician, Elton John has announced that his upcoming three-year tour will be his last as a musician although he plans to be creative until he dies.
The 70-year-old singer, pianist and composer noted that his priorities have changed.
“I’ve been touring since I was 17 with various bands. I thought the time is right to say thank you to all my fans and say goodbye,” he told Anderson Cooper in an interview.
“We had children and had changed our lives and in 2015 we sat down with their school schedule and we said I’m going to miss too much of this.”
The tour, which is ta Farewell Yellow Brick Road, will begin on September 8.
The tour will include 300 shows across five continents. Tickets for the tour will go on sale February 2.
“I can’t go on forever,” he said.
Elton will be performing a duet with Miley Cyrus at the upcoming Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden, New York where he will also receive the President’s Merit Award.
