    BREAKING: Emeka Ihedioha dumps PDP

Emeka Ihedioha, a former governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, has resigned from the party.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Ihedioha to have said the PDP failed to offer “credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)”.

Ihedioha announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated April 23 and addressed to the party’s chairman at Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo.

Ihedioha, also a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the PDP had in recent times taken on a path that disagrees with his beliefs.

The letter reads: “Since 1998, I have contributed my quota to the development and transformation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as one of the founding members.

“All these years, I have taken pride in the fact that the PDP is a party that will always look inward for internal reforms and provide credible leadership for the people, whether in power or outside power. I have had the benefit of serving and benefitting from the party at various levels.

“Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempts to offer counsel, the party is sadly no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“It is in the light of the foregoing, that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party effective immediately.

“While this decision was difficult to take, I, however, believe that it is the right one. Despite this resignation, I will always be available to offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.”

Just In: Ihedioha reportedly joins APGA after dumping PDP

Former Reps Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha has reportedly joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of November 2023 election in Imo State.

Recall that key players along with “Obidients” in general were opposed to the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives to his initial move to join Labour Party.

Ihedioha met with heavy resistance from Obidients who practically tore him to shreds over his derogatory comment in a video which trended online.

Supporters of Peter Obi upon getting hints of the moves by Emeka Ihedioha mobilized to resist the former Deputy Speaker; citing the betrayal from him by particularly campaigning against Labour Party and Peter Obi as well as working against them during the just-ended presidential election in the state.

After several failed negotiations and persuasions, the embattled former lawmaker was advised to join APGA which he did.

A source further revealed that since the resignation of Iyocha Ayu, things have not remained the same in PDP as loyalists of the embattled Chairman are now a target of the new head, Umar Iliya Damagum.

Why I withdraw from Imo PDP guber primary – Ihedioha

Former Gov. Emeka Ihedioha of Imo has announced his withdrawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election.

Ihedioha announced his withdrawal from the race in a letter entitled, “notification of my withdrawal from the Imo PDP gubernatorial primaries”.

The letter was addressed to the National Chairman of the party and was sighted in Abuja on Tuesday.

Only Ihedioha and the National Secretary of the party, Mr Samuel Anyanwu, were screened for the primary election for the Imo PDP ticket.

In the letter, Ihedioha stated that he turned 58 years on March 24 and had cause to reflect on so many things, including the state of PDP.

The former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives stated that having been a member of the party since its  formation in 1998, he aligned himself with the request by PDP Imo chapter to the National Working Committee for a consensus candidate for the governorship primary.

“In the interest of harmony and unity of the party, I have elected to make the personal sacrifice of withdrawing from further participation in the processes, leading to the emergence of the gubernatorial candidate.

“This decision was not taken lightly. My commitment to the service of our people has never been in doubt.

“And I am sure many of those who have, on their own, already started mobilising for me will be disappointed.

“I sincerely seek their understanding and that of associates, admirers and particularly the electorate, who have over the years aligned themselves and identified with my political aspirations,” Ihedioha added.

The former governor, who was sacked in 2020 by the Supreme Court, expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to him to have served in various capacities as a legislator and governor.

“I am also proud of the positive impact I made, particularly in the seven months I served as the governor,” he said.

  • Finally, Dino Melaye leads six other party agents to boycott result collation in Abuja

Finally, Dino Melaye leads six other party agents to boycott result collation in Abuja

Dino Melaye, an agent of the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has led six other party agents to walk out from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presidential election result collation centre in Abuja.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Melaye had earlier today staged a protest during the presidential election result collation centre over the non-projection of states’ recorded results.

Melaye, who is a member of the 8th National Assembly from Kogi West Senatorial District, and a former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha; an agent of the Labour Party, amongst others staged a walkout on the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, over dissatisfaction on the process of the collation of results from state collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs).

The drama ensued around 4:30pm at the resumed collation exercise of the February 25 presidential election results for the second day.

Melaye and others fiercely insisted that the INEC Chairman must not accept the results of Ekiti, alleging that there were incidents of over-voting and electoral irregularities

Melaye, Ihedioha, as well as the agents of the Labour Party and others, had complained that the results presented by INEC SCOPs weren’t uploaded on the commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV), as repeatedly promised by the electoral umpire before the February 25 presidential poll.

Melaye argued strongly that without the upload of results electronically on IReV, this year’s election is not in any way different from the manual transmission of results done in 2015.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Melaye and others fiercely insisted that the INEC Chairman must not accept the results of Ekiti, alleging that there were incidents of over-voting and electoral irregularities.

They contended that the collation of results at the centre is at variance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and that they do not believe in the results presented by the SCOPs.

However, the INEC chairman maintained that there was no over-voting in Ekiti and that the results presented by the SCOPs stand. Yakubu also said the process must continue.

Finally, Dino Melaye leads six other party agents to boycott result collation in Abuja

In reaction, Melaye, Ihedioha and others stormed out of the national collation centre.

Before the break, Mahmood had cautioned Melaye not to be “disruptive” of the collation process at the insistence of the PDP chieftain that the results announced by the SCOPs should first have been uploaded on IReV for transparency and accountability.

The collation of results in Abuja has since continued in their absence.

Many party leaders have bitterly complained that INEC officials at the polling units were unable to upload election results to the IReV. The IReV and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) are new technologies introduced by the electoral body for the accreditation and electronic transmission of votes for this year’s polls.

Elections for the office of the President, 360 House of Representatives and 109 Senatorial seats were held in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday and Nigerians expect the declaration of results by the electoral umpire.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that INEC has announced that it will take a break and reconvene at 8pm.

Nnamdi Kanu: Ihedioha distances self from viral voice note

Former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha has denied being responsible for the viral voice note purporting a threat and a letter from him to the Minister of Justice, asking him not to release Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Ihedioha made the revelation via a statement he personally signed and released where he claimed that the voice note was “criminally” forged, saying those behind it were aiming at putting him at daggers drawn with the people.

The Imo-born Politician has now called on security operatives to thoroughly investigate those impersonating him and forging his signature for documents that did not emanate from him.

Ihedioha added that  he chose to remain silent since January 14, 2020, when the Supreme Court nullified his election as governor of the State.

“I consciously yielded to the maxim that silence is golden, so as not to inflame passion in our dear state. But there comes a time when silence is no longer golden. That time is now. It appears that some people are not satisfied with their stolen mandate.

“They have forged documents, concocted voice messages, perjured and maximised the social media in throwing mud to see if anyone sticks. They use issues that are very dear to our people in this nefarious project,” the statement added.

Ihedioha’s Saboteur Comment: Youths protest in Imo state

Scores of youths in Owerri, Imo State capital, stormed the streets to protest against the former governor of the state for making comments labelling those who won’t vote for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic, PDP, in next year’s presidential election as saboteurs.

Ihedioha had initially said that Nigeria’s presidency would rotate to the South-East after the administration of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, if he wins next year’s election.

However, the Imo state politician did  call those supporting Peter Obi and Labour Party saboteurs few weeks back.

Ihedioha, in the video, added that Nigeria could not afford to make mistakes in the 2023 election and that there are two parties in the election, the PDP and the All Progressives Congress.

The protesting youths under the aegis of Coalition for Peter Obi, stated that he insulted the sensitivity of the igbo people and the Labour party all together.

After barage of  attacks  against Ihedioha’s comment, the former governor of the state tendered apology to the people of the state.

  • 2023 Elections: Atiku speaks on choosing a running mate

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,  has reacted to claims that he has chosen the former governor of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha as his running mate.

The rumour mills had it that Atiku had concluded plans to announce the Imo born politician as running mate ahead of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

But reacting, his spokesman, Paul Ibe, told pressmen  that his principal had not chosen Ihedioha or any other person as his running mate.

According to him, the former Vice President would announce his running mate when the time is right.

“When we decide to speak on the issue of running mate, it will not be a subject of speculation, we will roll it out. It is not going to be something that will be speculated on social media, online platforms or Whatsapp groups.

“So from my own stable, I cannot confirm that to be true. These are the times for all manner of speculations. People should endeavour to wait for the official announcement. But this speculation is unknown to me.”

  • BREAKING: Supreme Court gives reasons for dismissing Ihedioha’s application for review

The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the application filed by Emeka Ihedioha to review the judgement on the Imo State Governorship election.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who delivered the lead judgement said there is no constitutional provision for the apex court to sit on appeal over its own judgement.

He ruled that the court does not have the competence to review it’s own judgement, stressing that the finality of the Supreme Court is entrenched in the Constitution, so that the inherent powers of the court does not allow it to review or set aside it’s own judgment.

Ihedioha asked the Supreme Court to set aside the judgment removing him as Governor of Imo State, instead of a review

However, the apex court upheld it’s verdict, affirming Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Governor.

Justice Ariwoola said the application of Ihedioha, candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) was lacking in merit.

“To ask us to set aside the judgment of this court is an invitation to sit on our own judgment. This application is hereby dismissed,” the Judge said.

Ihedioha had approached the apex court to review its January 14, 2020 ruling that nullified his initial victory in the election.

The Justices of the Supreme Court ruled six to one in dismissing Ihedioha’s application, with Justice Chima Nweze the only member of the panel who gave a dissenting opinion.

  • BREAKING: Supreme Court adjourns hearing on Imo election immediately after resumption

The Supreme Court, again, on Monday adjourned till Tuesday the hearing of the application seeking the review of its judgment which upturned the outcome of the last governorship election in Imo State.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Emeka Ihedioha, is by his application filed on February 5, 2020, seeking the review of the apex court’s February 13, 2020 judgment which removed him from office after about seven months of being inaugurated as the Imo State governor.

The apex court, in the disputed verdict which Ihedioha alleged was obtained by fraud, installed the All Progressives Congress’ Hope Uzodinma, as Ihedioha’s replacement.

The judgment review application was on February 18 adjourned till Monday for hearing.

But a seven-man panel of the court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, however, further adjourned the application till Tuesday, following a request by Ihedioha’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).

Agabi said, “The matter was adjourned till today for hearing. But incidentally, we were served a process by the respondents in court this morning, which we must look at in order to respond.

“If it is convenient to you my lords, permit us to come back tomorrow (Tuesday) so that we can look at the issues that may arise.”

Responding, Uzodinma’s lawyer, Damien Dodo (SAN), said applicants were served Monday morning because they only filed and served their papers last Friday.

Dodo said save Agabi’s request, he was ready to proceed.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s lawyer, Taminu Inuwa (SAN), too said he was ready to proceed with the hearing.

But the panel decided to adjourn the hearing till Tuesday.
