Euro 2024: After dramatic comeback win against Slovakia, England tipped to win tournament

Rio Ferdinand, former Manchester United defender has tipped England to win the ongoing Eurom2024 in Germany.

Ferdinand stated this in reaction to the Three Lions coming from behind to beat Slovakia and progress to the quarter-finals.

It would be recalled that the Three Lions  were seconds away from exiting the tournament following Ivan Schranz’s goal in the first half.

But Jude Bellingham equalized with a brilliant overhead kick in injury-time, before Harry Kane completed the turnaround in the first minute of extra-time.

“There comes a time in a tournament when you actually start believing you’re going to win it and I think this was the moment. I really do,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.

“They’re through to the quarter-finals, on the best side of the draw, it’s written in the stars. It’s written! We’re going to win it.

“Maybe I’m getting carried away but I don’t care, I don’t give a monkey. I’m getting carried away because I’m an England fan, I’m emotional and I love it.”

Euro 2024: England come from behind to defeat Slovakia 2-1

The Three Lions of England snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Slovakia.

England narrowly escaped with a 2-1 win over Slovakia in their Euro 2024 last-16 clash, thanks to a last-gasp bicycle kick by Jude Bellingham that took the match to extra time, where Harry Kane headed the winner.

Declan Rice hit the post from long range as England desperately sought an equalizer, but it wasn’t until five minutes into added time that Bellingham finally found the net, undeservedly saving the Three Lions with their first shot on target of the game. Kane then headed home in the first minute of extra time.

England will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals after they knocked out defending champions Italy with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

England were abject against a Slovakia team who were aggressive from the start, pressing their opponents relentlessly and taking the lead with an Ivan Schranz strike from a counter-attack in the 25th minute.

Euro 2024: Major injury blow for England ahead second round cracker with Slovakia

The three lions of England could be without defender Kieran Trippier when they play Slovakia in the Round of 16 at the ongoing Euro 2024.

Trippeir is a big doubt for the cracker after missing training again yesterday just two days before the match against Slovakia.

Recall that Trippier is nursing a calf injury, but started each of England’s three matches in the tournament.

If he is unable to prove his fitness before Sunday’s game, Gareth Southgate will turn to Ezri Konsa as a makeshift left-back ahead of Liverpool’s versatile defender Joe Gomez.

Trippier missed training on Tuesday and again when England conducted a full training session behind closed doors, as is routine in the tournament, on Friday.

Foden has started all three England’s matches at the tournament so far.

The 24-year-old is expected to be back in time for their last-16 game on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate’s men qualified for the knockout stages as Group C winners, although their performances have attracted criticism from fans and pundits alike.

The Three Lions will face Slovakia in their quest to reach the q-final of the competition.

Euro 2024: Goalless affairs as England, Slovenia share spoils in last group C game

England topped Group C, while Slovenia advanced to the knockout stages of Euro 2024 after a dull 0-0 draw in their final group match on Tuesday.

England had already secured their spot in the round of 16, and the draw ensured they finished first in the group with five points, despite another lackluster performance.

Gareth Southgate’s team led Group C despite a disappointing display in Germany.

Slovenia ended up with three points, level with Denmark, who also drew 0-0 with Serbia. Although both teams had the same goal difference, goals scored, and disciplinary record, Denmark initially appeared to advance in second place due to their higher UEFA ranking, with Slovenia progressing alongside them, subject to confirmation.

In a tepid match with few real chances, England had the better opportunities. Harry Kane and Phil Foden forced easy saves from goalkeeper Jan Oblak, and Bukayo Saka had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half.

England dominated possession but had few shots on target, as Slovenia defended resolutely and stifled their frustrated opponents’ attacks.

The result means Luciano Spalletti’s men will finish second behind Spain, who defeated Albania 1-0 to top Group B.

Italy will now play Switzerland for a place in the quarter-final.

England have also qualified with a game to spare, following Spain’s victory.

Germany, Spain and Portugal have also booked their spots in the last 16.

England will play Slovenia while Denmark and Serbia will slug it out.

Euro 2024: England book second round qualification with a game to spare in group C

The Three Lions of England have booked a spot in the knockout phase of the ongoing Euro 2024 ahead of its final group game against Slovenia on Tuesday evening.

England currently sit top of Group C on four points after beating Serbia and drawing with Denmark, and following Monday night’s results which saw Spain beat Albania while Italy snatched a late 1-1 draw against Croatia, it means that the Three Lions will be guaranteed to finish as one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage.

After 12 teams would have secured automatic qualifications four of the best third-placed teams out of all six groups will go through to the last-16 and with England, France and Netherlands already on four points with one game each remaining, all three nations are guaranteed a spot in the last 16.

If England beat Slovenia to secure top spot in Group C on Tuesday, they will face a third-place team from either Group D, E or F.

Euro 2024: Alan Shearer slams England over lacklustre performance against Denmark

England legend and former Newcastle United striker, Alan Shearer has hit out at the entire Three Lions squad for the 2024 European championships for their lacklustre performance against Denmark.

It would be recalled that England and Denmark settled for a 1-1 draw on Thursday in Frankfurt.

The former Premier League frontman rued the lack of energy and quality of the Englishmen and asserted that Denmark was the better team.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side had 51% possession and had 7/16 attempts on target as compared to England’s 4/12.

Shearer slammed the Harry Kane-captained English side for their performance.

“You can see players lying on their backs – they look absolutely shattered, the England players. There’s no excuse for that,” he said on BBC.

“There was no energy, no pace to the game. We didn’t run in behind until the last 10 or 15 minutes, we got caught too many times on the ball, and too many sloppy passes and in truth, Denmark was the better team and deserved to win.

“It was very poor, it wasn’t good enough. I wouldn’t say lack of effort, not trying, but there’s so much more to come from those players.”

Euro 2024: Kane, Hjulmand score as England, Denmark share spoils

The Three Lions of England played a disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark to put their hopes of making it to the second round of the ongoing Euro 2024 into delay mode.

Kyle Walker brilliantly bullied Kristiansen off the ball before sending a pass to Harry kane who then fired a shot that beat the Denmark goalie and into the bottom left corner.

Few minutes after, Dane Forward, Hjulmand latched on to a loose ball near the England box 18 and fired a shot that beat goalkeeper, Pickford for their equalizer.

All efforts by both sides to add to the tally in the first 45 minutes proved abortive.

The Three Lions had couple of chances in the second half of the encounter but luck ran against them.

After winning it’s first game against Serbia, with a slim margin, a win against the Danes would have cemented a passage to the second round but the Three Lions only earned just a point in their second game of group C.

The Danes have also not helped themselves with the scoreline as they would have to defeat Serbia in their last game to gain passage to the knock out phase.

Despite the Three Lions of England unconvincing performance so far at the tournament, the Super Computer has tipped them to emerge champions of the competition.

England manager, Gareth Southgate will name the same set of players that executed the match against Serbia on Denmark today at the ongoing Euro 2024

Recall that the Three Lions beat Serbia 1-0 in their first game courtesy of Jude Bellingham’s early strike in the encounter.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold started that match in a central midfield role, while Phil Foden was deployed from the left of attack.

Bukayo Saka played on the right wing while Harry Kane played from the number position.

Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice will again be handed starring roles in the midfield engine.

Left-back Luke Shaw will miss the clash as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

England go into the game knowing that a win will confirm their spot in the Round of 16.
