Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup tie with Liverpool at Wembley Stadium, Tuchel said Kovacic could still play a part in the final because the injury wasn’t serious

“Mateo wants to try it and the medical department gave the green light to try it. The advantage is that the ligament was not torn from the last incident so there’s no new injury.

“There is heavy pain and it is heavily swollen, we are hoping maybe time is enough that he makes it. We’ll try in training and then we will know more about it.”

Speaking of Kante, Tuchel added, “He is also trying. He tried yesterday in training and trained more or less everything.

“It was a reduced training session because of quite a long travel and fatigue so it wasn’t high intensity.

“We will also try with him today, he’s keen to make it hundred percent that we can plan with him tomorrow would be crucial for us.”

FA Cup: We’re lacking confidence – Lampard

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard admits he’s nervous facing FA Cup third round opponents Morecambe.

As the pressure builds on Lampard, he called on his confidence-hit players to be “even more on guard” as they prepare to host League Two Morecambe in the third-round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

He said: “No matter form, team, status, the FA Cup has a magic that’s been there forever which means underdogs will turn up and make it difficult. With our current form, we have to be even more on guard.

“Confidence has been hit with the difficult patch we’ve had. But I’ll pick a team to try to win the game.

“There’s only one way to move on from a lack of confidence and that’s to work hard. You’ve got to sprint out of a lack of confidence.”

Lampard admitted that it has been hard to juggle his big squad, and said that some players are finding the lack of minutes tough.

“When you have a squad as big as we do, there are probably more non-starters than starters. So it’s only human nature that players find that tough,” he added.

English FA Cup slated for August 8

The FA Cup Final has been penciled in for Saturday, August 8, though a midweek date of August 5 is also under consideration, but it is still expected to be the final game of the season as part of the Premier League’s Project Restart.

The Premier League is mindful of the FA’s acute financial situation, with the cancellation of Euro 2020 and all summer events at Wembley, which make finishing the FA Cup this season crucial if the governing body is to stem some of its huge financial losses due to the coronavirus shutdown.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham has already said that the national governing body will lose more than £100million due to coronavirus and cutbacks could be made to grass roots programmes.

The FA will act in concert with the Premier League and only start competitions if the Government deem it safe with more talks expected with the deputy chief medical officer Jonathan Van-Tam this week.

The Premier League required flexibility from the national federations and UEFA to cancel Euro 2020 to allow the possibility of finishing domestic leagues.
