EPL: Leicester City will be back soon – Iheanacho

Super Eagles player, Kelechi Iheanacho has assured Leicester fans that the club will return to the English Premier League immediately after they were relegated at the end of last season.

Leicester City joined Southampton and Leeds city in the relegation zone.

Though the Foxes claimed a 2-1 win over West Ham United in the final game of the 2022/23 season, it was not enough to keep them in the topflight as fellow strugglers Everton also managed a 1-0 win over Bournemouth, a vital victory enough to keep the Toffees in the Premier League ahead of the Foxes.

Despite limited playing time this season with 1,121 minutes of action in the Premier League, the Super Eagles forward had 10 goals contribution (five goals and five assists) for the Foxes.

Iheanacho made this promise on his youtube channel, saying that he’s not happy they got relegated but hoped they would be back soon.

“I don’t even know how I feel right now. I’m so disappointed. I don’t know what to say. I want to thank the football club, the fans, and everyone that supported us right from the start till now. I know it is a hard one to take. Whatever it is, we would keep going and stay strong, and hopefully, we would get back up.

“It is a downturn now. Nobody is really happy at this time. It is about timing for the club and everyone. We just need to take a chill and move on. It is not what we want. We can’t go back now thinking about it. We just have to move forward.

“To be 2-0 down is probably a sign of where we’re at. Second half, probably a sign of where we’re at.”

EPL: Liverpool legend, Owen hails two-goal hero Awoniyi

Liverpool legend, Michael Owen  has heaped praises on Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi after he scored two goals to propel Nottingham Forest to a 4-3 win against Southampton in a relegation dug fight on Monday night in the English Premier League.

Awoniyi’s brace is his first for the club all through the season.

The Nigeria international’s two goals came within three minutes in the first half.

The striker opened the scoring for Forest in the 18th minute, finishing off a brilliant counter-attacking move before volleying home the second few minutes after.

Owen highlighted the qualities that make the former Union Berlin player dangerous to play against.

“You see the goalscorer, I’m not going to try to pronounce his name (Awoniyi). He’s scoring goals, he’s got pace, he can finish like he did with the first one, and then he gets back to goal as well,” Owen told Premier League Productions.

“He’s equally as dangerous as that, so very hard to play against because a lot of players that maybe haven’t got pace, you can try to squeeze them outside the box.”

Awoniyi has scored six goals and provided one assist in 24 appearances for Nottingham Forest this season.

EPL: Southampton dim Arsenal’s title hopes, draw 3-3 at Emirate

Arsenal’s title hopes suffered another setback on Friday after playing a 3-3 draw with relegation battling Southampton at the Emirate.

Premier League leaders Arsenal scored two goals in two minutes to level up with the Saints in a very thrilling English Premier League encounter.

The Saints led after just 28 seconds, when Carlos Alcaraz capitalized on an Aaron Ramsdale error to score.

Arsenal have now conceded the two fastest goals at home in the Premier League this season, the other being Philip Billing’s strike after 9.11 seconds for Bournemouth.

Former gunners player, Theo Walcott doubled the Southampton lead  before Gabriel Martinelli pulled one back for the league leaders.

Duje Caleta-Car restored the Southampton two-goal advantage and appeared to seal the three points – only for Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka to score in the 88th and 90th minutes to earn a draw.

The Norwegian Odegaard then scored a goal in the 88th minute to reduce the deficit for the home team before Bukayo Saka equalized on 90 minute to restore parity for the gunners.

All effort to snatch a late winner proved abortive as both sides settled for a 3-3 draw in a pulsating EPL encounter.

The result means the Gunners have drawn three straight games starting from Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Anfield, Westham and now Southampton.

Southampton remain bottom of the table and three points from safety, having now failed to win in seven league games.

Second place Manchester City will try to play catch up with the Gunners as they trail with five points with two games in hand.

Both teams then will settle scores at the Etihad on the 26th of April in what seem like a title-deciding encounter.
