    EPL: Super Eagles’ midfielder, Joe Aribo rated fourth best

    After a very impressive showings in his  debut season in the English Premier League (EPL), Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo has been rated one of the best midfielders in the Premier League in the current season.

    Aribo joined EPL side Southampton in the beginning of the season from Glasgow Rangers of Scotland for a fee within the range of €7m and has since set the ball rolling at Southampton football club.

    The 26-year-old Southampton attacking midfielder, is  known for his creativity and physical style of play, has scored two goals in 15 appearances for the Saints this season.

    The midfielder has been rated in top ten most aggressive players in the EPL, he garners 17 points and ranked fourth best midfielder in the EPL and also the player with the most possession won in the final third for Southampton this season. According to Squawka

    Manchester City attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne with 20 points ranks first on the chart, followed by Leeds United’s Jack Harrison with 19 points, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard, 18 points are ranked second and third respectively.

    The mercurial midfielder is ranked fourth and finishes above Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard with (16)points Chelsea’s Mason Mount on 14 points and Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes on 14 points.

    The former Glasgow  Rangers of Scotland  playmaker will hope to consolidate on his fine form for Southampton when the second half of the league resumes on boxing day.

    Southampton are currently seated on 19 points on the EPL log and Aribo and his teammates will be looking forward to escaping from the relegation waters.

    Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness, has tipped Manchester City to win the English premier League title this season despite Arsenal topping the table with five points clear.

    Souness noted that City has what it takes to claim their third consecutive title.

    Arsenal have either beaten or drawn against tems that have faced them this season except the loss to Manchester United.

    However, the Gunners are yet to play Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

    Arsenal leads with five points and will definitely top the table at Christmas.

    “Arsenal right now if you ask me, are a club that are going places with this manager.

    “Will they sustain it? I still think people are playing for second place to City, but Arsenal are a fabulous story right now, they really are.”

    Portugal and Manchester United striker, Cristiano Ronaldo lambasted coach Erik ten Hag, saying he doesn’t have any form of respect for him.

    Ten Hag left Ajax Amsterdam to take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick, at the begining of the season but hasn’t had a rosy reign at the club.

    Ronaldo, who was said to have asked to be allowed to leave the club over the summer, was prevented from going by the club and Ten Hag made it clear that the 37-year-old was part of his plan for the season.

    The former Ballon D’or winner has had turbulent moment under Eric Ten Hag after being barred from the team for storming out of Old Trafford few minutes before the end of the match against Tottenham Hotspurs.

    Ronaldo stormed out in protest for being an unused substitute against Tottenham Hotspurs.

    Ten Hag had explained that Ronaldo was ill and could not play in the 4-2 win over Aston Villa and weekend’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

    But it seems the Portugal captain may have burnt his bridges at Manchester United once and for all.

    The former Real Madrid and Juventus superstar gave an explosive interview in which he hit out at the club, claiming he would ‘never respect’ Ten Hag.

    Asked about Ten Hag, Ronaldo told Piers Morgan Uncensored on Sunday night: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me.

    “If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

    Asked if he felt Ten Hag had tried to force him out, he replied: “Yes, not only the coach but another two or three guys that are around the club [at senior executive level]. I felt betrayed.”

    Probed on whether he feels they are actively trying to get rid of him, he continued: “Honestly, I shouldn’t say that, I don’t know, but I don’t care, always people should listen to the truth. Yes, I feel betrayed.

    “And I felt that some people don’t want me here. Not only this year but last year too.”

    However, Ronaldo revealed that  his three-month-old daughter was hospitalized in July, explaining why he missed the tour of Asia in July before the season started.

    Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has expressed disappointment at the current happenings at Chelsea football club, lamenting the whopping sum spent by the club at the summer.

    Chelsea were condemned to their third straight defeats by Newcastle on Saturday at Saint James’ park.

    Mocking the Blues after their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday, Carragher said it would be difficult to believe that Todd Boehly spent £275M over the summer.

    The former Liverpool defender took to his Twitter page to lament the whopping sum spent by the club in the summer and yet struggling.

    According to him, “Eddie Howe is getting more from his players than any other manager in the PL. While you can’t believe Chelsea spent 275m in the summer, on a team that was very good in the last couple of years,”

    Chelsea owners, led by Boehly, spent a hefty amount of £275 million during the summer transfer window.

    The west Londoners brought in the likes of Wesley Fofana from Leicester City for a fee of £70 million, Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, Marc Cucurella from Brighton and Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

    They also brought in Pierre-Emerick Aaubameyang from Barcelona and were tipped to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

    Chelsea are currently occupying the eight position on the English Premier League log.

    Liverpool recorded their second straight win in the English Premier League by recording an emphatic 3-1 over visiting Southampton.

    Roberto Firminio opened the goals account with a six minute header before Che Adams equalized for the Saints in the 9th minute.

    However, Saints hopes of pulling off an Anfield smash and grab on their new manager’s debut did not last long, with Darwin Nunez twice getting on the scoresheet before the break.

    With his two assists in the first half against Southampton, Andrew Robertson has equalled Leighton Baines as the defender with the most assists in Premier League history.

    Meanwhile, Tottenham bounced back from a 2-1 home loss to Liverpool last weekend to record a 4-3 over Leeds United in a thrilling encounter.

    Two late goals from Rodrigo Bentancur earned Tottenham a remarkable Premier League victory over Leeds, who surrendered the lead three times in north London.

    Bentancur fired Spurs level for the third time in the match via a wicked deflection off Luke Ayling, before tapping in Dejan Kulusevski’s low cross to earn Antonio Conte’s side all three points in dramatic fashion.

    Tottenham Hotspurs are the side with most points secured after conceding first in the English Premier League, they have garnered 13 points from such position.

    Manchester City tasted its first home defeat of the season by losing 1-2 to visiting Brentford.

    Ivan Toney put his England snub behind him by scoring twice, including an injury-time winner, to give Brentford a memorable 2-1 victory at Manchester City.

    WorldCup bound Phil Foden leveled things up in the dying minute of the first half but Ivan Toney ensured Brentford were runaway winners in the encounter.

    The Brentford captain delivered the perfect response to missing out on Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for Qatar to stun the reigning champions.

    The Bees as Brentford is fondly called is the second EPL side after Liverpool to defeat Manchester City in the current season.

    Brentford is the first club side to defeat the two Manchester sides in the current season.

    Win, draw, or lose Arsenal will top the table till the new year.

    Chelsea’s  Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,has issued a stern warning to his former clubside Arsenal FC, saying he’s eager to play the spoiler in today’s game.

    Aubameyang will be staging a return to Arsenal few years after leaving the Emirate side unceremoniously.

    Aubameyang was unsung for the Emirate side but issues with Mikel Arteta and other board members of the club led to his exit from the club.

    The Gabon international then left for Barcelona for just one season before being snapped up by English Premier League side Chelsea FC.

    Ahead of Sunday’s clash at Stamford Bridge, Aubameyang said: “Yes, definitely a very exciting game and also because they are doing well at the moment.

    “It’s a big week coming and we will try to give everything to make the most of it. The first game is at home against Arsenal I think it’s going to be fun for sure.”

    Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has doused tension concerning the Bukayo Saka’s injury in their 5-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest on Sunday over the weekend in the English Premier League.

    Recall that Saka couldn’t complete the match after leaping off the pitch in the second half and was replaced by Reiss Nelson.

    Arteta has now played  played down injury fears over Saka and does not believe the 21-year-old will miss the World Cup in November.

    Speaking post-match, Arteta admitted Saka got a ‘bad kick’ but did not initially fear anything more serious.

    “Hopefully not [the World Cup in doubt],” Arteta told a press conference.

    “It was a bad kick, he was limping but I don’t see it further than that. Both foot and ankle, he got kicked a few times.”

    Nelson, who came on to replace Saka inside half an hour, scored two goals and provided an assist in the encounter.

    Jesse Marsch, the coach of Leeds United has revealed that the fear of relegation made his boys play their heart out against Liverpool in yesterday’s night win over the Reds.

    Marsch said that Leeds United was able to beat Liverpool because his players stepped up big against the host.

    An early goal and a late goal in the match ended Liverpool’s 70-match unbeaten run at Anfield in the English Premier League.

    Two goals from Rodrigo Moreno and Crysencio Summerville gave Leeds all three points against Liverpool.

    Mohammed Salah did score for Jurgen Klopp’s side at Anfield.

    “It was a good performance,” Marsch said at his post-match press conference after the game.

    “It was good that we were able to reward ourselves. My feeling is that we shouldn’t be in the situation we are in, but we are.

    “I’ve tried to stay calm but also to push. The group is strong and they are committed, so I am thankful to have them.

    “They stepped up big today and they are the reason we were able to get the win.”

    Roberto de Zerbi the new Brighton manager has explained why his team demolished  Chelsea 4-1 on Saturday in the English  Premier League encounter.

    De Zerbia led Brighton to defeat former manager Graham Potter’s tutored Chelseaat the  American Express Community Stadium.

    Zerbia noted that  Brighton defeated Chelsea because his players were fantastic against the Blues.

    According to him, Brighton home fans and the people working in his team helped his side defeat Chelsea.

    Goals from Leandro Trossard, Ruben Loftus-Cheek (OG), Trevoh Chalobah (OG) and Pascal Grob gave Brighton all three points against Chelsea at Falmer Stadium.

    Speaking after the game, De Zerbi told Sky Sports: “I am very happy for the players, for the club and the people working with our team and these great fans. They were the best players on the pitch. They helped us a lot and I am very happy.

    “In the first 20-25 minutes, we were fantastic. We played like men. We have a style, and the first 20-25 minutes was fantastic, really fantastic.

    “We prepared the team one-on-one. All the players were fantastic.

    “No, I don’t want to celebrate anything. Next Saturday there is another game and I am sorry for the Chelsea goal because in the second half we suffered a stupid goal and made a mistake. They changed their tactical position and we weren’t ready to change something for us. But I’m happy because 4-1 against Chelsea is an amazing result.”
