Liverpool vs Manchester City: Carragher names player to focus on

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has given players of his former club tips on how to stop Manchester City in Sunday’s English Premier League clash.

Carragher advised the team not to focus on Erling Haaland when they face Manchester City on Sunday but advised that the Beigian, Kevin De Bruyne is the player to stop in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

According to Carragher, if you stop De Bruyne, “you take 50 per cent away from Haaland”.

Haaland has already netted 20 times for City this season and is the in-form striker in European football.

But Carragher told Sky Sports: “I’d almost be more focused on De Bruyne rather than Haaland in this game.

“If you stop De Bruyne, you take 50 per cent away from Haaland as well as the connection the two have got is there already.

“Yes, Haaland has been an absolute sensation in the Premier League but he needs servicing and you can’t get anyone better than De Bruyne.”

EPL: Arsenal is doing well because they play like us – De Bruyne

Belgium and Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, has said he is not surprised to see Mikel Arteta do well as Arsenal’s manager.

Arteta was assistant to Pep Guardiola before taking the managerial job at Arsenal three seasons ago.

Arsenal is number one on the English Premier League table with just one point above second place Manchester City.

Asked if he is surprised to see Arsenal thrive under Arteta, De Bruyne told Sky Sports: “No, not really. Obviously, I see a lot of similarities with the way we play, but that’s always been his style.

“When he stopped playing and he had the opportunity to come here I think it was a good learning school and obviously we had great years.

“I saw an evolution from the beginning of Mikel to after three years when he left.

“At the beginning, he was adapting but then he was getting more and more into his role. We also saw he had a lot of ambition and when an opportunity came he took that.

“It’s nice to see that he got the time from Arsenal. I’m happy for him that it’s going well. They’re playing really, really, really good football. Hopefully, they will just not be good enough for us.”

EPL: Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-2 to reclaim top position

Arsenal continued their impressive form on match day 9 after beating Liverpool 3-2 to reclaim the top position in the English Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Gabriel Martinelli put the Gunners ahead in the match in the second minute when he received a pass from the left side of the pitch and slotted the ball pass Liverpool goalie Allison Becker.

Liverpool leveled  things up in the 27th minute after Luiz Daiz and Nunez combination  produced a goal for the away team.

It  looked as if the first half was going to end in a stalemate when the home team killed Liverpool’s attack and pressed forward through a counter attack. Martinelli again latched on to a loose ball on the left side of Gunners attack and fielded Bukayo Saka who wasted no time in slotting the ball into net for the home side’s second goal.

On resumption of the second half Arsenal continued to press for more goals but it was Jota who sent a sublime pass to the Brazilian striker, Firminio who wasted no time to equalize for Liverpool.

However, late in the match Thiago fouled Gabriel Jesus in Liverpool penalty box and referee pointed to the spot for a penalty.

Bukayo Saka stepped up and scored to give Arsenal the lead once again in the game.

Arteta heaps praises one Liverpool player ahead of Arsenal clash

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has singled out Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold for praises ahead of the crunchy encounter at the Emirate today (Sunday)

Arteta described the Liverpool right back as a special talent who needs no introduction.

The Gunners will look to reclaim their place at the top of the Premier League when they host Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Arteta’s men have won seven of their first eight league games and will move back above Manchester City if they defeat Liverpool.

The spotlight will be on England right-back Alexander-Arnold, following a turbulent start to the season.

While the 24-year-old has scored domestically and in Europe, pundits have largely criticised his defending.

When asked about Alexander-Arnold ahead of the game, Arteta said: “Well, he is a very special talent.

“What he adds offensively to the team every year is difficult to find in that position.”

However, Arteta is yet to record a win against Liverpool after several meetings since joining the Gunners three season ago.

EPL: Chelsea demolish Wolves, now 4th on the table

Chelsea surmounted an initially difficult defensive play from Wolves before Christian Pulisic scored minutes before half time  to give the Blues a breadth of fresh air.

Kai Harvertz and Armando Broja added the second and third respectively to complete the rout over struggling  Wolverhampton wanderers.

The result meant that Graham Potter’s side have now won three straight games, two in the English Premier League and one against AC Milan in the Serie A.

Chelsea have jumped to fourth on the log with 16 points and a match in hand.

Graham Potters’ boys will travel to Villa to slug it out with Aston Villa who are looking forward to steady their ship in the current season.

EPL: Haaland scores 15th Premier League goal as City Overtake Arsenal to go top

Manchester City found their way to the top of the English Premier League table after demolishing Southampton at the Etihad.

Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Joao Cancelo and Riyad Mahrez all scored a goal each in the encounter.

Haaland  had bungled   series of good chances before finally finding the net for his 15th goal of the Premier League season – but by that point, the game had long since been won.

While the victory moves Pep Guardiola’s unbeaten side back above Arsenal into top spot, a fourth consecutive defeat only adds to the pressure on beleaguered Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
Arsenal are looking to reclaim their position but would have to surmount the Liverpool hurdle in Sunday’s fiesty encounter at the Emirate.

  • EPL: Manchester City aim top spot as Arsenal battle Liverpool on match day 10

EPL: Manchester City aim top spot as Arsenal battle Liverpool on match day 10

Chelsea’s new coach, Graham Potter is gradually settling in at Stamford Bridge after two back-to-back wins against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League and the 3-0 demolition of AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Chelsea, now full of confidence, will be the clear favourites to beat Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, particularly given the visitors make the trip without a manager.

Manchester City, fresh from demolishing Man United and Copenhagen in the EPL and UCL respectively is unlikely to show any mercy against Southampton on Saturday.

Erling Haaland’s rate of scoring continues to look more absurd with each passing week and he will undoubtedly have his eye on a fourth straight league hat-trick on home soil.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has probably been waking up in cold sweats thinking about this fixture.

The Austrian is under real pressure with his side 16th in the Premier League after three successive defeats. And everything suggests a fourth loss in a row will come on Saturday.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton tenure got off to a thrilling start with a 3-3 draw at Anfield last weekend.

The Seagulls will head into this game full of confidence, with Leandro Trossard the man to watch after his stunning hat-trick against Liverpool.

Brighton versus Tottenham hotspurs will be a very thrilling encounter.

Another interesting fixture of matchday ten comes from the Emirates as league leaders Arsenal host Liverpool at the Emirate.

This is another true test of the Gunners’ title-challenging credentials, particularly after such an impressive win over their local rivals Tottenham last weekend.

Liverpool’s problems this season have been well-documented but Jurgen Klopp has a strong record against Arsenal. The Reds, though they sit in mid-table as things stand, will have aspirations of closing the 11-point gap at the top.

Everton versus West Ham is another thrilling encounter on match day 10.

Frank Lampard’s side has the best defensive record in the division, letting in just seven goals so far. Conversely, they’ve only scored seven, but there is a solidity about the Toffees that should stave off any fears of a relegation battle.

Forest surprised everyone on Friday when they announced a new three-year contract for manager Steve Cooper, who had been touted by many as the next Premier League boss to lose his job.

The club’s owners will, however, expect that backing to translate into results on the pitch, starting with Monday night’s meeting with Aston Villa.

West London meets east London on Sunday as Fulham make the short trip to West Ham.

The Hammers’ confidence level increased after their 2-0 defeat of Wolves last time out and another 1-0 victory over Anderlecht in the Europa Conference League.

West Ham United will be looking forward to securing maximum points against the team from Molineux to have a shot at making it to the top 6 at the end of the season.

The highlight of matchday 10 will be at Saint Mary’s and the Emirate where Arsenal and Manchester City could be swapping positions for at least for few hours.

A win for Manchester City today will take them to the summit of the EPL table pending Arsenal’s match with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

EPL: Gallaher gives tips on how to stop Haaland from scoring

English Football pundit, Noel Gallagher, has given mostly defenders in the English premier league tips on how to stop Manchester new signing Haaland from scoring plenty of goals.

The English football analyst said that that there is no point trying to stop Erling Haaland, noting that opposition players would be better off focusing on Kevin De Bruyne instead.

Haaland has scored a whopping 17 goals in just ten appearances for Manchester City this season, including a hat-trick against Manchester United over the weekend.

And Gallagher explains that the only way to stop Haaland is to stop his supplies which majorly come from Belgium international, De Bruyne.

“I don’t think you stop him, you stop De Bruyne,” Gallagher said on Drive. “You have to stop the ball getting to him.

“We’ve seen the goals that he’s scored already, some of them are scarcely believable – the one against Borussia Dortmund and his second against United – no other striker in the world even attempts that.

“We’re watching something that’s scarcely believable. To think that he’s nine goals short of last season’s Golden Boot title and there’s 30 games left, it’s a joke.”

United’s new buy, Anthony pulled one back early in the second half before substitute Antonio Martial scored a brace in the encounter to end the match on 6-3

Haaland’s goals against Man United means the Norway international has now become the first player ever in the Premier League to score a hat-trick in three consecutive home games.

Haaland will now hope to continue his impressive display for Man City when they host Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
