    Prof. Haruna urges youths to prepare for industrial revolution

    The Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna has disclosed that the ongoing nationwide upgrade of skills of Nigerian youths in various fields and occupations is aimed at Nigeria’s participation in the fourth Industrial revolution.

    Prof Haruna at the occasion of the training of 100 youths in “Modern Methods of Electrical Installations and Maintenance” today in Calabar, Cross River State, South-South geo-political zone advised the youths to take their training and empowerment programme seriously because the series of training is to prepare them to contribute to industrial revolution which is presently being championed by NASENI as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

    According to NASENI boss, the need to get Nigerian youths equipped and or given new skills in order to cope with changes in technologies and innovations can no longer be over emphasised. He said “technology is changing and those with old skills in electrical installations are losing jobs because new techniques for either trouble-shooting and handling of electrical installations are coming to the industry”.

    According to the Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI: “development in cutting edge technologies or frontier technologies as the innovations that are shaping the fourth industrial revolution is no doubt disrupting many things and introducing constant changes and standards. He said “these technologies include Artificial Intelligence(AI);Robotics; the Internet of Things(IOT); Big Data: Block Chain; Additive Manufacturing(3D Printing; Autonomous Vehicles; Unmanned Aerial Vehicles; Gene Editing; 5G Network; and even Smart Grid and agitations for wireless electricity. Every aspect of human endeavour, Agriculture, Health, Industry, Transports, Hospitality etc all now requiring electricity however advanced Electricity Energy.

    Speaking further on reasons for the Skills acquisition training of 100 youths in Calabar, Prof. Haruna explained that installation, repairs and maintenance will no longer be metre conduiting, piping or trunking of cable channel and streaming overhead conductors alone. He said the new system of modern electrical installations and maintenance had gone beyond provision of lighting points and sockets outlets. It is about automation remote sensing, remote control and wireless, therefore the capacity of the already existing electrical technicians needed retooling and skills upgrade.

    Professor Haruna said “handlers of modern electrical installations repairs and maintenance need to familiarize themselves with the current advances of the new and emerging technologies and also prepare and be equipped to possess adequate competencies to meet the challenges and opportunities of the development anticipated of the shape and nature of the next industrial revolution which Nigeria must be part of in line with the directive given to NASENI by President Muhammadu Buhari”

    The Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Benedict Ayade who was special guest at the occasion thanked the Federal Government and NASENI for bringing the upgrade and introduction of new skills in electrical installations and maintenance to Calabar and Cross River State’ youths. He disclosed that both the Federal Government under President Buhari administration and Cross River State under Prof. Benedict Ayade share same vision on the need to pursue solving the socio-economic challenges of the country, creation of jobs for the teeming youths and poverty reduction amongst the general populace via industrialization and the development of the manufacturing sector of the economy.

    In this direction, the State government, he said has revived the Construction and Fabrication Academy of West Africa Building in Calabar, a building now serving as temporary site for newly established NASENI Agricultural Machinery & Equipment Development Institute(AMEDI),Calabar.

    The Cross River State Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu thanked the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of NASENI, Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna on the training and upgrade of the skills of 100 youths in the State.

    The Chairman of the occasion, Barrister Ochiglegor Igbado, Member, House of Representatives commended President Muhammadu for his passion for youth developments. He said without focus on self-employment and reskilling of youths, it is practically impossible to create adequate jobs because of the large number of the unemployed youths coming out of schools. Therefore, he urged the trainees to take the on-going skills upgrade in electrical installations and maintenance very serious such that there would not be need any more to invite foreigners from neighbouring countries to fix electrical faults and maintain installations in the State.

    A list of equipment handed over to the youths included: Complete electrical tool box, Multi-metre tester, Cordless Drilling machine, Leather handgloves and other safety equipment

    Nigeria Envoy to Jordan Lauds NASENI EVC Over Speedy Implementation of Collaboration Between Nigeria & Jordan on Technology Transfer, Food & Agriculture

    The Ambassador of Nigeria to Jordan, His Excellency, Faruk Malami Yabo has expressed delight in Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna and management of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) for quick response in the implementation of collaboration between Nigeria and Jordan on technology transfer, training, food security and Agriculture mechanization which were outcomes of the recent agreement signed between the Agency and the Gheras, Decapolis and Ebsilon Group, Hashemite both institutions in Jordan.
    Ambassador Yabo said in his sojourn as Nigeria envoy to Jordan, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman had been so distinct amongst so many other personalities back home that he had worked with as an Ambassador. According to him “Of all the collaborations only that which has materialized with speed is NASENI”. He stressed.
    Earlier in the month, the Federal Government through NASENI has signed MoU with Ebsilon Hashemite kingdom of Jordan on Education and Training Development to establish technology transfer that would enable NASENI, through the implementation of CertVeri System to offer state-of-art online instantaneous certificates verification to beneficiaries. The system will enable NASENI to help different entities (ministries, embassies, universities, educational entities and some other government departments, etc.) to use CertVeri System as one-stop station to digitally display their certificates for authentication whenever it is required.
    The MoU that NASENI signed with the Decapolis on Food & Agriculture Traceability Technology Solution will enable Nigeria to exploit the Decapolis Food Guard platform, to certify the safety and quality of Nigerian food and agriculture products and to improve the efficiency of production and farming operations.
    The NASENI deal with the Jordanese organizations was aimed at creating new economic development paths for Nigeria’s industrialization which had been the focus and commitment of the Agency. According to the EVC/CE, NASENI is working with Gheras, Decapolis and Ebsilon Group, Hashemite kingdom of Jordan on the areas of Technology Transfer, domestication of Education and Training Development and on Food/Agriculture Traceability Technology Solutions.
    Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman however said it was the commitment, hard work, transformational zeal of the Nigerian Ambassador to Jordan to see how the structures of Nigeria economic system back home would prosper that made the signing of the MoU possible. He said the Ambassador was able to look inwards and found veritable areas of collaboration between Nigeria and Jordan, especially in educational system and agriculture, those areas he knew would benefit the two countries and within the mandate of NASENI”.
    Prof Haruna explained that the team was on familiarization visit to the Agency and also for technical assessment concerning the implementation of the two key projects contained in the MoU in order to have them domesticated in Nigeria. “The collaboration will revolutionize how we do agriculture and technology in the country. The MoU is not a regular one, the implementation has started in Nigeria with their visit” said EVC/CE.
    Responding, Ambassador Faruk Yabo, said he was highly delighted and honoured by the Agency. He said that the mandate given to him by President Muhammadu Buhari in Jordan was to make sure that Nigeria entered into bilateral relationship with institutions from Nigeria and Jordan. “Of all the collaborations that has materialized with speed is NASENI”.
    The Ambassador noted that Nigeria has strong military collaboration with Jordan, adding that the model in Jordan could work in Nigeria as Jordan has unique location and were able to maintain relations with neighbouring countries despite the crisis surrounding the country.
    He advised the government that “it is only technology that can make Nigeria catch up with development around the world and the reason for Nigeria’s on- going collaboration with Jordan.”
    Also in his response, Mr. Joudi Ahmad Sheikh Sa’id, Chief Executive Officer, Ebsilon for Education and Training Development said it was his first time of meeting a hardworking Ambassador who was ready to establish a working relationship with Jordan. “We are trying to do something for our countries and I believe we will work together to achieve this” he said.

    Prof. Haruna commends SEDI-Minna for establishing President Muhammadu Buhari entrepreneurship centre

    An entrepreneurship development centre named after President Muhammadu Buhari initiated by the Scientific Equipment Development Institute (SEDI-Minna) has been commissioned by the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Engr.Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna. The EVC/CE also had commended the Managing Director/Chief Executive of SEDI-Minna Prof. Mohammed Ndaliman and his team of Management for the initiative.

    The Centre, Muhammadu Buhari Entrepreneurship Development Centre (MBEDC), which is dedicated for training and impartation of technology based skills for Nigerian youths, according to SEDI’s Managing Director/Chief Executive was founded to address youth unemployment, tackle poverty and to make the mandate of SEDI Minna have direct bearing on using science and technology to solve societal problems.
    SEDI-Minna is one of the ten (10) research and development institutes of NASENI.

    While commissioning the newly constructed centre, Prof. Haruna said that the centre has the capacity to train youths in various new and emerging technologies and to make the Nigeria people self-reliant. The EVC/CE explained that the new NASENI and the Institutes under his watch had evolved a new approach toward addressing the need for a viable and or the laying of a sustainable foundation for the industrialisation of Nigeria.

    The new NASENI strategy, he explained, is the dynamics of leveraging on the potentials inherent in Nigerians themselves at all facets of development while using the manpower, facilities and expertise in the NASENI system to unleash modern skills on the people through deliberate collaborations with various public and private institutions within and outside the country”.

    Prof. Haruna disclosed that NASENI had embarked on the design, fabrication, and reengineering of all processes that would bring the desired technological development, industrialisation and innovations that are capable of addressing unemployment, poverty, and ameliorate capital flight in the country.

    The Muhammadu Buhari Entrepreneurship Development Centre SEDI-Minna is one of such initiatives and it consists of 250 Capacity Conference Hall, four (4) offices and seven (7) Skills Acquisition and Training rooms.

    Explaining the concept behind the empowerment Centre, Prof. Ndaliman said the establishment of the Centre was made possible through the Federal Government intervention programme under its policy of Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP). The ERGP, he said, was a medium-term plan of the government for 2017 to 2020 developed to restore Nigeria’s economic growth while leveraging the resilience and ingenuity of Nigerians.

    According to him “we at SEDI Minna and by extension NASENI are more suitable to bring into practical realities the government policies of ERGP and many more, this was the concept behind the Muhammadu Buhari Entrepreneurship Development Centre”

    The Managing Director of SEDI Minna also hinted that the operations of the new entrepreneurship centre would not be limited to the provision of skills in the areas of shoemaking, leather production etc but the centre will provide the platform for long-lasting technical capabilities to help address problems of unemployment and youth restiveness including poverty-induced insecurity of lives and property in the country.

    Prof. Ndaliman used the opportunity of the occasion to call on governments at all levels and stakeholders to take advantage of the Centre and SEDI-Minna facilities and expertise to sponsor youths both to MBEDC and SEDI-Minna for skills acquisition training in any of the following areas: glass blowing, plastic making, wood working, machining and metal fabrication. He said the listed skills would be provided to the trainees in addition to all necessary entrepreneurship norms like discipline, planning, and creativity geared towards profit-making for the trainees in their future endeavours.
