Nigerian entertainers berate Shatta Wale after bitter rant

Some Nigerian entertainers have responded to a rant by Ghanaian dancehall star, Shatta Wale, after his fans filled up a stadium for his show.

During the show, he paused and revealed he had been told he wouldn’t be able to pull such a huge crowd without Nigerian artistes on the bill.

He said, “They said I won’t be able to fill my own stadiums, I don’t need any Nigerian artiste to sell out Ghana’s stadium, f**k Nigerian artistes.”

His comment didn’t go down well with Nigerians who pointed out that they are not his enemies and that there wasn’t a competition in the first place.

Popular DJ, BigN, who reposted the insulting video said, “My dear shattawalenima I watched this video more than once. I tried to see your point. We are not the enemy. You can’t blatantly say “FxxK Nigerians” and think there won’t be any repercussions. We are not to blame that you are a local champion.

“Stop this bickering and talk true, Naija man don collect your babe again abi?” he asked in Pidgin English.

Comedian, Ushbebe labelled Shatta Wale’s rant, “Useless talk … I no even expect more from am.”

For actor, IK Ogbonna, the danceha singer’s rant is simply hate speech against the Nigerian people and demanded an apology.

He said, “Mr Shattawalenima, you are a total and complete disappointment. In a time where we should be growing together and helping each other through creative collaborations. You should appreciate the Nigerian artiste because a win for any Nigerian artiste is a win for Africa. How do you promote unity with utterances like this? This is very weak from you. Deal with your complex issues and grow up. As an artist, I have featured in a few Ghana movies and I have also worked with amazing, adorable Ghanaians here in Nigeria. You should totally apologise for this #hatespeech”

Singer, Mr 2Kay took a relaxed view to the rant, saying, “We go still come Ghana come flex ❤️ NIGERIANS Lead others follow. Proudly Nigerian

  • Present Nigerian entertainers, money focused- Miss Pepeiye

Present Nigerian entertainers, money focused- Miss Pepeiye

The name Leona Mazur might not ring a bell but, when you mention Miss Pepeiye – the famous original and first Miss Pepeiye of Papa Ajasco Family – you get the attention of people. The Nigerian-American currently based in the Neitherand with her family creatively played her role so well in the sitcom produced by Wale Adenuga’s Production in the early 2000s.

One of the pioneers of the Nigerian Fashion Show Industry, Leona was a famous fashion runway model who featured in the Nigerian fashion shows both in Paris and Milan. In 2001, she won for Zizi Cardo, the Nigerian Fashion Show Designer of the Year Award. She also modelled for some prominent Nigerian designers like Mon Ami, Zizi Cardo, Frank Osodi, Modella, and Remi Lagos Of blessed memory, to mention a few.

Since it’s been 12 years she left Nigeria, when asked what she’s been up to, she said: “I’ve been around the world I’ve been travelling, as you know, I got married to an American diplomat and I decided to sit somewhere and complete my education. There’s no way I can go back to school travelling from one country to the other. So I decided to go back to the United States, and there’s where I’ve been for the past 9 years completing my education and, of course, I have kids, two lovely boys, and they also go to school in the US. I’ve just been developing and growing as a person. Going back to school was something I wanted to do for a long time, because I did my National Diploma in Mass Communication with the focus in journalism in Nigeria.

When I went back to the US I had to pick up something I could do without a lot of frustration, and that was learning business all over again. The standard there is different, although my Wolex Polytechnic credentials helped get me in. That’s what I’ve been doing and now I’m back, done with school and back to start my own thing, give back to the country that helped live that dream. I tell people to forget the American Dream, there’s the Nigerian Dream. The Nigerian dream is having your hands tied behind your back and your eyes blindfolded and somebody asking you to produce something. We Nigerians are geniuses, because with the situation that we are faced, we still come out resilient and surviving; it’s amazing!”

Speaking on her comeback to the entertainment industry which has changed since she left, Leona outlines her plan to cope as thus: “When I was modelling and acting, sometimes you work and don’t get paid; sometimes you go on set all day without food or drink and at the end of the day you are told ‘sorry, you can’t do your shoot today.’ Back then I and other models and actors that I know had the passion. It was something that we enjoyed doing, the money isn’t the goal, and the goal was to express our talent and creativity. What I am seeing now is more money-focused or fame-focused. Either way, Nigerians are doing pretty well. Our actors and actresses put us on the world map”.

  • Female pants theft: Entertainers give panacea

Female pants theft: Entertainers give panacea

Since news broke that ritualists now target female underwear as tool for money-making rituals, several young Nigerian ladies have expressed apprehension over growing incidents of female pants theft in their localities. Even celebrities are not left out.

Nollywood actress, Lizzy Gold recently declared that she has stopped wearing pants, adding that it’s her way to combat the growing trend of ritualists who use female pants for money-making rituals.

Some female entertainers spoke with TheNewsGuru about how young ladies can combat this sad trend. Excerpt:

Ladies who cannot keep their pants should stop wearing them- Wini Lazarus

I think the best way to combat this is that women who cannot keep their pants or watch over their pants should stop wearing pants. I don’t feel comfortable without pants so I cannot stop wearing pants. How can I stop wearing pants because of these devilish people?

Refusing to wear pants isn’t the solution- Queeneth Agbor

Not wearing pant isn’t the solution. Unnecessary outing isn’t needed this period. Hooking up with strange guys should be avoided .If you are in a relationship and you don’t know your man’s source of income, leave before you become his next source of income. Basically stay safe, You don’t need to be in a relationship to be okay it’s time for girls to truely fend for themselves and not depend on men

Watch the kind of friends you keep- Yetunde Bakare

The best way to stay safe is to be very careful in relating with strangers especially on social media, don’t visit guys you don’t know. When you wash your pants make sure you dry them inside your bathroom and let your dryer be far from the window

Lastly, watch the kind of friends you keep and where you go to because evil associations corrupt good manners Some girls are so desperate so much that they can steal their friend’s pant and sell it. If you want to dispose your pants, just cut it into shreds and burn it.

I cannot tell ladies not to wear pants- Seyi Hunter

I can’t tell ladies not to wear pant. Some can’t do without wearing pants, while some feel comfortable without it. We are women during our monthly period we will have to wear pants to hold the pad in place. Not all women use tampon. The best thing is to be extremely careful. Have very few pants, if possible wear only when on your period. When you wash, don’t spread outside; let it be in your room away from the window. This is why it’s good to date responsible men. As for those dating the ones in this pants business, when going to see him don’t wear pants. Wear pants at your risk.

  • Vote of no confidence threat: ‘You are entertainers of the year,’ Olubadan tells Council of Obas

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji on Tuesday reacted to the threat issued by the Councill of Oba in Ibadan to pass a vote of no confidence on him if he doesn’t act in accordance to the dictates of the chieftaincy review recently accented to by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The Olubadan said the threat was as an affront to the people of Ibadan land.

The traditional ruler also referred to the 21 kings as entertainers of the year even as he declared that they (21 new kings) lacked the powers to unseat the Olubadan.

In a press release issued, signed and made available to TheNewsGuru.com on Tuesday by the Director, Media and Public Affairs to the Olubadan , Mr Adeola Oloko , Oba Adetunji stated that ‘the so-called Oba-in-Council ‘ was unknown to the Oyo State Chieftaincy Laws, and wondered how a group of educated individuals such as the embattled high chiefs could resort to illegality by commenting on a matter before the court.

Hearing continues Wednesday 13 December at the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan in a suit filed by the Olubadan against the Oyo State Government on the controversial chieftaincy review.

Oba Adetunji who has pleaded with the court to take judicious notice of the persistent contempt of court on the matter before it by the defendants in recent times is of the opinion that if a scapegoat is not made of at least one or two culprits, there may be no end to court contempt.

On the issue raised by the Oba-in-Council; Olubadan contended that the council in question which comprises high chiefs and Olubadan only is basically an advisory council with no force of law, customs and traditions backing it.

” In the same vein, Baale whom the embattled high chiefs have added to themselves to become 21 are not members of Olubadan-in-Council and therefore should not be dressed in borrowed robe, as they have no power whatsoever over their lord, ” the frontline Oba said.

According to Oba Adetunji, as the prescribed and appointing authority, he can promote and/or peg the promotion of an high chief as long as he wishes.

But he added that he did not contemplate any such decision as he does not see himself as an absolute monarch.

Oba Adetunji contended further that there was no time that the embattled high chiefs were barred from attending palace activities, adding that they were the ones who spurned palace invitation in their desperate rush for multiple crowns and cheap royalties.

He expressed delight that despite their absence from official palace activities, the Olubadan had been exercising his duties without let or hindrance.

The Olubadan stated that even when they were being harassed and molested in the city streets and called unprintable names, he has been trying his level best to calm down frayed nerves in order to guarantee their safety and security by going to court to diffuse tension.

Oba Adetunji stated that as the Yoruba proverb says that okro can never outgrow its reaper, an high chief can’t outgrow the king by threatening to recommend him for removal.

“By custom and tradition, no Olubadan has been recommended for removal from office by any high chief or group of high chiefs at any time and my own reign will not be an exception. At least, we have received applications from families of about four of the embattled high chiefs asking for their immediate replacement. But, like a prodigal son, we hope that they would sooner than later renounce the unrecognized crowns and return to the warm embrace of their father as the palace door is perpetually open. The high chiefs are hereby advised to emulate high chiefs in other places, who are not wearing crowns but still earn respect of their people for peace and progress to reign supreme in the land, ” he said.

He, however, urged the high chiefs not to exercise fears yet, as their seats would not be declared vacant in the absence of court verdict.

  • Entertainers should stop glamourizing vices- Okey Bakassi

Veteran actor and TV host, Okey Bakassi, has revealed his anxieties over the disturbing rate of drug abuse and its consumption among Nigerian entertainers.

The comedian said it is troubling and most people don’t want to talk about it.

Bakassi made this statement when interviewed by newsmen

“It is troubling. In the industry, people don’t want to talk about it so much but we have gotten to a stage where we have to say it the way it is so that young people don’t get the wrong idea and be misled. If we continue to glamourize substance abuse, weed and excessive drinking, we may mislead young people who are looking up to us for direction”.

Bakassi emphasized on the need for entertainers not to use their platforms to glamourize substance abuse.

“I am not criticizing anybody who wants to use whatever they use, to help themselves perform, but what is wrong is wrong. As entertainers I don’t think we should use our platform to glamourize vices. Alcohol abuse is not good; smoking marijuana excessively is not good”.
