    Female officer declared missing after hoodlums attack Police Divisional HQ in Enugu

    Yet-to-be identified hoodlums have attacked a police divisional headquarters in Enugu, authorities at the state command have said.

    The affected facility is the Umulokpa Police Divisional Headquarters located in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state.

    The whereabouts of a policewoman, attached to the facility, is unknown following the incident which occurred on Saturday evening.

    Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed this in a statement on Monday.

    Ndukwe explained that the assailants, in their numbers, attacked and vandalised vehicles and other items at the police facility.

    The Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Abubakar Lawal, was said to have led a team of senior police officers and commanders of the command’s tactical and operational units to the scene.

    He ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and tactical teams of the command to intensify ongoing efforts to locate the missing policewoman and apprehend the assailants.

    According to Ndukwe, residents of the state have been asked to assist the police with credible information that will lead to the location of the said security official, and arrest of the hoodlums.

    In another statement, he confirmed the killing of a young man identified as Stephen Ajah by yet-to-be-identified armed men.

    Although he did not state when the killing occurred, the command’s spokesman explained that the incident took place along the Ozalla-Agbani Road in Nkanu West LGA.

    He said the victim was rushed to the hospital by police personnel who arrived at the scene where he was confirmed dead.

    The remains of Ajah, according to Ndukwe, have been deposited at the mortuary while the police have begun an investigation to arrest the gunmen.

    Gunmen attack police checkpoint in Enugu, kill two officers on duty

    Gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint in Nachi, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, killing two policemen.

    The officers were conducting a stop and search on the axis when the incident took place on Tuesday.

    Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Wednesday.

    Although it is unclear what ensued, the police spokesman said the State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation that will lead to fishing out the assailants.

    “Full-scale investigation that will lead to fishing out of the assailants has commenced. Further development will be communicated, please,” he said.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that Tuesday’s incident is the latest in a growing trend of attacks on police stations and security personnel in the South East region of the country.

    Over the weekend, gunmen went on a rampage in different parts of the region, killing people and destroying properties.

    Three days ago, a police officer and two civilians were killed in an attack at the Ukaegbu Junction by Ezeiweka Road, Awada Obosi Layout in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra state.

    The incident also saw the attackers setting fire on the police patrol van before leaving the area.

    Apart from attacks on police formations, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices in the region and the South South have also been torched.

    Election materials were destroyed in Sunday morning’s attack on its Awgu Local Government Area office in Enugu State.

    Months after meeting in Lagos, Delta States; Southern Governors converge again in Enugu

    Members of the Southern Governors’ Forum are currently meeting in Enugu few months after they converged in Nigeria’s oil rich state, Delta with a follow up meeting in the nation’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos State.

    Governors who have arrived at the meeting include Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos; Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State; Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; and Bayelsa’s Douye Diri.

    They were received at the Government House, Enugu, by the host, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

    While there is no officially published agenda for the meeting, the governors are expected to deliberate on the ongoing Value Added Tax (VAT) battle between states and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), open grazing and security issues.

    Thursday’s meeting is coming just over two months after the governors met in Lagos State where they made a series of decisions including banning open grazing.

    TheNewsGuru.com, TNG reports that the governors had set September 5 as the deadline for states in southern Nigeria to promulgate the anti-open grazing law.

    Although only seven states – Ebonyi, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Oyo, Ekiti and Ondo – beat the deadline, more states have enacted the law banning open grazing.

    Enugu, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom were the latest states to enact the law against open grazing.

    Aside from issues around open grazing, the governors also agreed that Nigeria’s next president [in 2023] should be from the southern part of the country.

    They equally affirmed their commitment to Nigeria’s unity, restating calls for state policing among other issues.

    The non-profit organization, which is based in New York, United States of America, had earlier hosted a first of its kind outreach in Ibuzor, Delta State.

    The medical outreach is the philanthropic gesture of the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the charity, Dr (Mrs.) Magdalene Nwaka, with the support of formidable pillars like Dr (Mrs.) Josephine Nneka Ewere and Dr Aloysius Arinzechukwuemeka Agada.

    Jointly, they have blazed the trail and reached the unreached at the points of their needs.

    TheNewsGuru gathered that the medical outreach in Egede will be one of three that will take place later this year in Lagos and Akumazie, Delta State.

    The event is expected to empower people who need medical care to be taken care of and also be able to access drugs that are had to come by.

    Enugu CP to sanction policeman for assaulting lady — spokesman

    The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Lawal Abubakar, has ordered an immediate investigation and possible disciplinary sanction against a policeman seen engaging a lady in an altercation and physically assaulting her.

    The incident, spotted in a viral video circulating on social media, purportedly occurred while some police operatives were on duty at a checkpoint in Obeagu-Awkunanaw near Enugu, along Agbani Road, on Sept. 8.

    The CP’s order was contained in a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Enugu.

    The commissioner condemned the conduct of the policeman as shown in the viral video, while warning police personnel against unprofessional conduct or disrespecting the fundamental human rights of citizens in the performance of their duties.

    He said: “Anyone found wanting, in this kind of shameful incident, will be made to face maximum disciplinary sanctions.

    “I also appeal to the assaulted lady and eyewitnesses to the incident to visit the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (State CIID), Enugu, to volunteer their statements, in order to facilitate meticulous and swift conclusion of investigation”.

    The commissioner also called on residents to promptly report police officers found conducting themselves in an unprofessional manner to the nearest police station.

    Police in Enugu say no casualty after 3-storey building collapse

    The police in Enugu state confirmed on Saturday that no life was lost after a three-storey building collapsed in Ugbene 2, Abakpa-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area.
    Mr Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.
    According to Ndukwe, at about 1900hrs, the police received information concerning the collapse of the building prompting security operatives to rush to the scene and cordon off the area.
    “Preliminary investigation reveals that no life was lost and we will make further development available to the people,” he said.
    NAN correspondent who visited the scene of the incident noted that the three-storey structure had collapsed on another building belonging to Mr Ndukwe Okechukwu, the Deputy Chairman, Aniri Local Government Area of the state.
    Giving his account of the incident, Okechukwu said that his wife and three children escaped unhurt after the three-storey building collapsed on his house.
    He said the way and manner the children survived the incident gave an indication of God’s intervention because the three of them had been reading their books in the sitting room but had leave the place to consult with their mother who was in her bedroom.
    `He said it was after the three of them had moved out of the sitting room to see their mother that the building collapsed on the sitting room part of his house.
    An eyewitness, Mr Ugochukwu Okoye told NAN that more than seven illegal occupants of the three-storey building had parked out five days before the collapse.
    Another eyewitness, Mr Lawrence Ude said he rushed to the scene of the building collapse on hearing what had happened.
    “Since I arrived here, I have not heard of the loss of any lives,” he said.

    The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State chapter, Wednesday, condemned the killings at Okpokwu-Mgbuji community in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

    Recall TheNEwsGuru had earlier published reports about persons who were killed by alleged herders who invaded the community on Sunday. It was further gathered that the perpetrators were alleged masterminds of mayhems in Ebonyi State, who were dislodged by the Ebuebeagu security network currently security most local areas in Ebonyi.

    Ohanaeze, in a statement signed by its Enugu State president, Fred Odo Eze, a retired army general, and Dr Malachy Ochie, secretary, said, “The unwarranted invasion, wanton destruction of lives and property, including farmlands, by Fulani herdsmen at Okpokwu-Mgbuji community is the latest in the long list of carnage, mayhem, premeditated but unprovoked attacks by Fulani herdsmen in various communities in Enugu State.

    “This latest carnage, which occurred in the dead hours of Sunday, August 1, 2021, left eight persons dead, including a pregnant woman; and several others still missing as at the time of this press release.
    “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State, condemns this attack on the peaceful Mgbuji community. This deliberate mass murder by these marauding herdsmen cannot be justified by any stretch of the imagination.

    “We, therefore, condemn this attack in its totality as barbaric, provocative and a clear assault on the accommodative spirit of Ndi-Enugu State. We can no longer tolerate the intentional decimation of our people by Fulani herdsmen or any other group for that matter; not today, tomorrow or ever.

    “This must stop. We, therefore, call on security agencies and other critical stakeholders in the state to urgently identify and bring the culprits to book.”

    Ohanaene commended Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his prompt response over the situation.

    Enugu bloodbath: Gov Ugwuanyi offers automatic employment to slain police officers’ wives

    Enugu governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Thursday, offered automatic employment to wives of police personnel killed Wednesday by unknown gunmen in Enugu.

    TheNewsGuru had earlier published reports that about the killing of several policemen at checkpoints in Obeagu-Amechi, Enugu South Local Government Area and Amagunze, Nkanu East LGA.

    He made the offer when he paid condolence visits to the bereaved family. The governor also paid three months’ salaries of the slain cops alongside other cash donations.

    Gov Ugwuanyi said the package was applicable to wives of other affected officers, adding that the spouses also had the option of scholarship for their children to secondary school level in place of automatic employment.

    The governor was accompanied by a team of senior police officers led by the assistant commissioner of police in charge of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), ACP Fidelis Ogarabe.

    Enugu police confirms attack on checkpoint, many officers killed

    The Police in Enugu State have confirmed the deadly attack on its officers at a checkpoint in Obeagu-Amechi Community in Enugu South Local Government Area.

    TheNewsGuru reports that the community is one of the outskirts in the Enugu metropolitan area.

    Bodies of at least four policemen were seen after the attack, with some onlookers, including a pastor also said to have fallen victim of the deadly incident.

     

    It is unclear the number of casualties on the side of the unknown gunmen behind the incident.

    A police patrol van was set ablaze by the gunmen during the attack.

    Spokesman of the Police in the State, ASP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident, said “Information surrounding the shooting incidents in the evening hours of today, 21/07/2021, where Police Operatives were allegedly attacked by yet-to-be-identified gunmen at checkpoints in Obeagu-Amechi in Enugu South LGA and Amagunze in Nkanu East LGA are still sketchy.”

    He said that preliminary investigations have begun assuring that further development will be communicated.

     

    Sources hinted that the attack which started at about 5:30 pm on Wednesday at a busy spot at Mmiri Ocha Amodu lasted till 7pm.

    A source said he identified four policemen, one pastor and a neighborhood watch officer among the dead who were taken to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku – Ozalla mortuary.

    According to the source, “the gun battle was so fierce, it happened along Obeagu – Amechi Road to Agbani Nkanu a few kilometers from Enugu State capital.

    “There was confusion and tension while it lasted, people were running in different directions. I think the policemen were totally caught unawares,” he said.

    Another source revealed that an ambush was laid for the fleeling gunmen by operatives of Amagunze police division, adding that some of them were killed.

    Enugu state has witnessed another Police, hoodlum bloodbath as Six policemen were on Wednesday reportedly killed by gunmen at a police checkpoint on the Obeagu-Uno-Amodu – Umueze-Amechi road, in the Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

    According to reports, the hoodlums attacked the checkpoint at Obeagu Uno shortly after Inyaba Bridge around 7.30pm.

    Community sources told newsmen that the hoodlums, who came from the Agbani end of the road in the Nkanu West LGA, initially had encounter with policemen at Four Corner in Amagunze before the attack coming on the checkpoint.

    One of the sources who spoke with journalists said the hoodlums killed about six policemen, burnt their vehicles and stole their AK-47 rifles.

    The source said, “Around 7pm, we started hearing gun shots along the road. It lasted for about 30 minutes.

    “I can’t say how many policemen were killed, but the policemen on the checkpoint were six. What I can tell you is that up to six people were killed in the incident. Some of the hoodlums may among.”

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident but failed to provide the number of casualty.

    Ndukwe in a text message sent to newsmen, “I’m under the weather. I need to verify that and revert, please.”

    The incident came barely one week after a military checkpoint was attacked in Adani in Uzo-Uwani LGA and soldiers killed.
