    Super Eagles goalie, Olorunleke donates N500,000 to NPFL goalkeepers

    Enyimba and Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke, has donated a cash gift of N500,000 to the entire Nigeria Premier Football League shot stoppers.

    Olorunleke was part of the Super Eagles team that finished in second position at the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

    The Enyimba captain was an unused substitute all through the tournament.

    To show appreciation and encouragement, the Kogi state born  shot stopper donated the sum of 500,000 to Nigeria Professional Football League goalies.

    Olorunleke handed the donation to former Shooting Stars goalkeeper John Dosu for effective disbursement.

    The goalie, alongside head coach Finidi George, rejoined Enyimba on Thursday.

    Olorunleke is expected to make the trip for their matchday 21 fixture against Bendel Insurance on Saturday.

    He’s also expected to be in camp when the Super Eagles trade tackles with Argentina in an International Friendly in America.

    AFCON 2023: Fans’ prayers, support helping us progress – Super Eagles goalie, Ojo Olorunleke

    Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke has urged Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the team to excel at the 2023 AFCON.

    Olorunleke added that the fans’ prayers have significant effect as the Super Eagles have continued to progress in the competition.

    According to the Enyimba number one stopper, the team is fired up to get to the finals and win the trophy for the fourth time in their history.

    He said: ”All Super Eagles fans should continue to support and pray for the team because we are beginning to see the effect.

    ”On our part we will continue to do the needful to ensure that we get to the final and eventually win  the trophy for the fourth time according to our slogan, Lets do it again”

    The Super Eagles of Nigeria will slug it out with South Africa on Wednesday, February 6th, 2023 for a place in the final of the competition.

    Three Nigerian clubsides to get  $50,000 each for participating in CAF competitions

    Three Nigerian clubs; Remo Stars, Enyimba, Bendel Insurance will get $50,000 each from CAF as participation fee for taking in continental competitions this season.

    CAF will give  $50,000 to all the clubsides who didn’t make it to the group stage of the competition this season.

    Recall that Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba and Remo Stars participated in the CAF Champions League, while Bendel Insurance took part in the CAF Confederation Cup.

    Enyimba were eliminated in the first preliminary round 4-3 on aggregate by Al-Ahly Benghazi while Remo Stars crashed out 3-2 on penalties against Ghanian Champions Medeama.

    Bendel Insurance battled hard to reach the second preliminary round but were eventually knocked out by former champions RS Berkane 3-2 on aggregate.

    Only Rivers United made it to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

    AFL: Enyimba goalie, Olorunleke confident of victory in Wydad

    Enyimba captain and number 1 goalie, Ojo Olorunleke has sounded confident that the Aba Elephants are capable of defeating Wydad Athletic Casablanca in Morocco today.

    Enyimba lost the first leg of the quarter -final clash 1-0 in Uyo last weekend.

    Finidi George’s side will take on the Red Castle in the reverse fixture at the Stade Mohamed V, Casablanca on Thursday night.

    The Aba Elephants need to win by at least 1-0 in regulation time to drag the match to extra time or penalties.

    Olorunleke is, however, upbeat they can surmount the hurdle and earn a place in the semi-final stage of the competition.

    “We came here to achieve victory. We are ready and confident, we have spoken together,” the goalkeeper told a pre-match press conference on Wednesday night.

    “We faced some difficulties and challenges before coming here,but we are a professional team and we can’t complain.

    “We are here to win and qualify. We want to defeat Wydad like they did in the first leg.”

    AFL: Moroccan authorities clears air on Enyimba’s landing permit, CAF postpones match to Thursday

    The Royal Morocco Football Federation FRMF has categorically denied report that Nigerian clubside Enyimba was denied landing authorization in the Kingdom on Monday.

    According to the Moroccan authorities, DTA in charge of flights landing and take off, the request by Enyimba was received by 12 noon on Monday their supposed arrival date.

    Continuing, they said they asked for additional information to update their data but didn’t get to them until past 6 in the evening and Tuesday morning at about 8:59 am.

    They added that the landing permit was granted immediately the registration process was done.

    Meanwhile,  findings show that a  40-man contingent of Enyimba International FC have been given the green light to land in Morocco.

    There were issues about landing permit, as the  Moroccan aviation authorities were accused of  playing hide-and-seek game with the Nigerian champions over landing permit related issues, thus, delaying the People’s Elephants from traveling out Monday evening aboard their Air Peace airline chattered flight.

    But at noon on Tuesday, the Nigerians received positive signal from Morocco to land in their facility.

    “We’ve finally received the permission to land in Morocco”, an official gleefully told Exclusivenews.com.ng at 12:55pm Tuesday.

    “We’re already boarding, having gone through the Immigration protocol”, the official said.

    At the heat of the diplomatic imbroglio, Enyimba had written to CAF informing them of the development.

    The People’s Elephant equally demanded CAF to effect a Shift in the date of the match in view of the situation on ground.

    However, the Confederation of African Football CAF has moved Enyimba, Wydad match to Thursday instead of the initial date of Wednesday.

    The match will be played at the same time.

    Kanu speaks on sacking of Finidi George as Enyimba coach

    Nigeria league champions, Enyimba International Fc of Aba  have denied reports flying around that club coach, Finidi George alongside other staffers of the technical crew have been sacked.

    Newly appointed Sporting director of the club, Ifeanyi Ekwueme through a statement made available to journalists announced the sacking of Finidi and his technical crew members.

    Ekwueme directed all club’s members of staff, management and technical crew members to re-apply within the next 48 hours.

    However, the club’s new chairman, Kanu Nwankwo has denied that Finidi is exempted from the exercise.

    The former winger guided Enyimba to a record ninth Nigeria Premier League title last season.

    He is reportedly negotiating a new contract with the Aba giants.

    It remain to be seen whether Finidi’s assistant will be exempted from clean up at the club as the new sheriff in town Kanu Nwankwo tries to regain the lost glory of the club.

    Kanu Nwankwo and Finidi were both teammates at Ajax and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

    Enyimba Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo sacks coach Finidi, others

    Nigeria Premier League champions, Enyimba international  have announced the sacking of their head coach, George Finidi and other management staff.

    Finidi has only spent two years at the helm of affairs and has only guided the Aba giants to a historic ninth NPL title less than a month ago.

    The club on Monday announced the dissolution of the technical crew.

    The Peoples’ Elephant in a statement signed by sporting director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, however, directed all the coaches to re-apply for their positions within 48 hours.

    The Abia State Government recently appointed former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu as new chairman of the club.

    Kanu and Finidi were teammates during their playing days at Dutch club, Ajax Amsterdam.

    Finidi, a Nigeria football legend, won the 2023 NPL title in June after emerging top in the Super 6 Play-off in Lagos.

    However, a source close to the club has explained that the move is not to disengage the sfaff and coaching crew but a ploy to make them re-apply for their positions.

    “For now, there are no issues in the club but I feel the development is not unconnected with the change of government in the state and also leadership of the club.

    “Kanu just came in and he would need to get his own people on board in order to achieve his projections. What he did is not out of place but the issue is that all these are happening too soon especially after a wonderful season,” the source who craved not to be mentioned, informed.

    It could be recalled that both Kanu and Finidi were teammates at Ajax when the duo won the 1995 UEFA Champions League.

    Kanu officially takes over from Felix Anyansi-Agwu at Enyimba FC

    Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu has assumed office as the chairman of Nigeria Premier League champions, Enyimba.

    The ex- Super Eagles forward will take over the leadership of the club from Felix Anyansi-Agwu.

    The former Arsenal forward’s appointment was confirmed in a statement released by Abia State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu.

    He is expected to strengthen the team to win more laurels.

    Kanu’s immediate task is to help the Peoples’ Elephant successfully defend the title they won last season.

    The Aba giants will also compete in the CAF Champions League, where they will look to win a third title.

    Enyimba is the most successful club in Nigeria with nine NPL, two CAF Champions League, two CAF Super Cup and four Federation Cup titles.

    Whilst Kanu lead Enyinma from the administravive position, his ex-Ajax and Super Eagles teammate, Finidi George will be dishing out instructions from the bench as the coach of the side.

    Enyimba head coach, Finidi George has noted that he will be interested in winning the CAF Champions League for for the Aba based club next season.

    TheNewsGuru.com reports that Finidi led Enyimba to win the 2022/23 NPFL season in Lagos during the just concluded play-off at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium.

    The Peoples’ Elephant last tasted success on the continent in 2004 when they defeated Tunisian club, Etoile du Sahel on penalties in the final.

    NPFL Play-off: Enyimba crowned league champions, Remo, Rivers grab continental slots

    Enyimba football club have won the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL after playing out a 1-1 draw with Rivers United on Sunday to claim a ninth.

    Enyimba’s 1-1 draw with Rivers United ensured they finished as league toppers with nine points same as Remo Stars and Rivers United but the Aba Elephants won on superior goal difference.

    The two-time CAF Champions League winners took the lead against the Port Harcourt based side through Ekenne Awazie six minutes before the break due to shaky defending by United.

    Following a spirited fight back by River United, they levelled up the score through Nyima Nwagua three minutes after the break.

    Enyimba and Remo stars will fly Nigeria’s flag at the CAF champions League next season while Rivers United will feature in the Confederation cup.

    The winner of the federations cup coming up on the 21st of June between Rangers fc and Insurance of Benin will take the last slot in the Confederation cup.

    For winning the league Enyimba got a whooping 100,000 million naira as prize money.
