EPL: Tottenham poised on beating City to hand advantage to Arsenal

Ange Postecoglou, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, has noted that his side will shake off the four losing streak and try to beat highly rated Manchester City, even though it could hand the Premier League title to rivals, Arsenal.

A win for Postecoglou’s men could effectively hand the Gunners a first league title since 2004.

But Postecoglou is adamant his team won’t roll over against City.

“I’m here fighting tooth and nail every single day for everything I can get for this football club because that’s my responsibility.

“I would not give up on any cause even the most lost of causes because then I’d be abstaining from my responsibilities.

“I want us to finish the season strong. I want us to try and win three games of football and see where that takes us,” he told reporters.

Richards made his position known after speaking on Sky Sports after City thrashed Wolves 5-1 on Saturday.

The result means Pep Guardiola’s men are still one point behind Arsenal, who beat Bournemouth 3-0 earlier in the day but City have a man in hand.

Richards has said his former team could yet trip up at Tottenham, where they don’t have a good record.

He said: “When you are coming towards end of season, you do think differently. These games are the most important and that’s where City seem to thrive.

“Spurs have lost a bit of form. That’s the game you would look at Spurs away; City’s record is not great there.”

  • EPL: Why we lost 5-1 to Manchester City – Wolves manager, Gary O’Neil

EPL: Why we lost 5-1 to Manchester City – Wolves manager, Gary O’Neil

Gary O’Neil the Wolverhampton manager, has berated his players for making it “easy” for Manchester City in their 5-1 defeat on Saturday.

Erling Haaland scored four times for the  Premier League champions, with with his second and third goal coming from the spot.

Substitute Julian Alvarez came on to replace Haaland and got on the scoresheet.

O’Neil, who watched the game from the stands, told BBC’s Match of the Day: “We helped them; we did help them. They are obviously an incredible side and they punished us for our mistakes, but some of our mistakes were terrible.

“A couple of ridiculous turnovers for the ball, like really bad that cost us and the first goal. The officials don’t make any difference to the result today, but I don’t agree with the awarding of the first penalty.

“I thought it was a pretty bad decision. You see them coming together like that all of the time. I think Gvardiol’s motion and follow-through created the contact as much as Rayan. I’m not sure what Rayan is meant to do; you can’t disappear at that moment.

“I was disappointed with the awarding of the first one, but then more disappointed with sort of the mistakes my own team made. We just made it a bit too easy for Manchester City.”
