EPL: Liverpool are still in the race – City manager, Guardiola

Pep Guardiola the Manchester City manager, has insisted the Premier League title is still a three horse race among Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Guardiola’s City have garnered 76points and current on second position but with a game in hand.

City on Thursday night defeated Brighton 4-0 at the American express stadium.

Many football analysts have ruled out Liverpool out of the race, following a 2-0 defeat at Everton, but Guardiola insist they are still in it.

But Guardiola insists that either City or Arsenal could still stumble in the remaining fixtures.

“Title race is not only between us and Arsenal.

“What happened to Liverpool, two defeats in a row, it can happen to Arsenal, it can happen to us.

“What is important is still we are there. There are a lot of games to play,” Guardiola told Sky.

EPL: Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title dim after losing 2-0 to Everton, United beat Sheffield 4-2 at Old Trafford

Liverpool Football club did their hopes of winning this season’s English Premier League title a great disservice after losing 2-0 to neighbours Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

The Reds came into the match head high after defeating Fulham 3-1 few days ago at Craven Cottage with Trent Arnold, Gravenberch and Jota getting on the scorer’s sheet.

However, Everton’s Calvin Lewin scored a goal each in both halves to ensure that the host secure all three points in their battle against Relegation.

The result put Arsenal at a vantage position to win the league title following  the Gunners thrashing of  Chelsea 6-0 at the Emirate on Tuesday.

Manchester City the other contender in the three horse race will play Brighton tomorrow at the American Express Stadium on Thursday.

The Cityzens have two outstanding matches to play and if they win the two games will overtake Arsenal on the log.

Elsewhere, Manchester United came from behind on two occasions to defeat Sheffield United 4-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

United Captain, Bruno Fernandez grabbed a brace, one from the penalty spot and another a rocket of a shot that beat the Sheffield goalie, while Granacho and Harry Maguire scored a goal each to record yet another victory for the Red Devils.

The Result leavesManchester  United on 6th position  on the log  with 60 points and are aiming to secure a continental spot next season.

But Sheffield United are rooted rock bottom with just 26 points and -42 goal difference, they  have been confirmed for relegation and will feature in the championship next season.

EPL: Arsenal’s title hopes in tatters after losing 2-0 to Aston Villa at the Emirate

Arsenal’s hopes of winning the premier League title for  first time in 20 years is hanging in the balance after succumbing to  2-0 to Aston Villa  at the Emirate.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa revived their hopes of featuring in the Champions League next season by extending the gap between it and Tottenham Hotspurs to three points but with a match advantage.

Arsenal started well and had the majority of the early chances but it was the visitors who almost took the lead as Ollie Watkins struck both posts following an effort from Gabriel.

Few seconds later, Aston Villa had goalie, Emi Martinez to thank for pulling up a point blank save to deny the Gunners the lead which emanated from a counter attack.

Both sides tried but couldn’t break the deadlock as first half ended goalless.

But Villa took charge after half time, and struck the frame of the goal again when Youri Tielmans hit both the bar and the post with a bending shot that almost found the top corner.

Bailey came off the bench to arrive at the back post and steer Villa in front, before Watkins doubled Villa’s lead three minutes later  with a chipped finish over goalie Raya.

The Gunners were seven wins from their first title in 20 years, but City are now two points clear at the top after match day 32 games.

Earlier another title favourite Liverpool also lost at home to visiting Crystal Palace by 1-0 thus throwing the league open.

City top the log with 73 points followed strictly by Arsenal with 71 points while Liverpool dropped to third with 71 points but trail Arsenal on goal difference.

EPL: Huge setback for Liverpool’s title hopes after losing 1-0 to Palace at Anfield

Nigerian born Eberechi Eze scored a 14th minute goal at Anfield to secure an away win for Crystal Palace to put a dent  on Liverpool’s title hopes.

Eberechi Eze converted from Tyrick Mitchell’s cut-back to finish off a flowing Palace move early on and the visitors were deservedly in front at the break.

Liverpool tried all it could to cancel out Palace’s goal but all effort to do so met a brick wall in the first 45 minutes of the thrilling encounter.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds ramped up the pressure in the second half but, just as in recent games against Manchester United and Atalanta, their finishing let them down as they fell to their first home league defeat November 2022.

Defeat leaves Liverpool two points behind leaders Manchester City and level on points with Arsenal who will play Aston Villa for a chance to go back on top.

Liverpool will play Everton next weekend  at Goodison park.
