EPL: City coach, Guardiola hails striker who scored a brace against Burnley

Pep Guardiola the coach of Manchester City has hailed Julian Alvarez describing him as one of the best players in the world.

Guardiola made this comment  after Alvarez scored twice to help the Premier League champions to a 3-1 win over Burnley.

Álvarez now has 15 goals for the season, only two behind last season’s tally.

The 24-year-old forward has won the Premier League title, Champions League and the World Cup in his short career and Guardiola believes he’s already established himself as one of the best in the world.

“For his age, for the numbers in the Premier League, for what he gives to the team, he is unbelievable.

“He’s a world champion playing alongside [Leo] Messi, [Ángel] Di María and Enzo Fernández.

“If you are not good you cannot play in that team. He can play in three different positions and he has an incredible sense with the intensity to run. He’s really good,” Guardiola said.

EPL: Liverpool deserve the victory against us – Chelsea coach, Mauricio Pochettino

Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino has noted that his team didn’t post a good performance against Liverpool on Wednesday night, thus deserve to lose.

The Reds humiliated Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield.

Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Díaz scored for the hosts, while Christopher Nkunku pulled one back for Chelsea in the second half.

According to Pochettino, the Reds were a much better side and deserve to secure the three maximum points.

“It was so clear they were much better than us. We lost every single duel. Every time we recovered the ball, after the first or second touch, we lost the ball.

“It is well deserved for them. In the second half we changed a little bit and Mudryk had a clear chance to score, but then we conceded.

“Then we score, 3-1, and maybe a penalty on Nkunku provides us with a possibility. But nothing to complain about with the decision. It is only that they were better than us. It was bad luck for us but that does not change the feeling that Liverpool was better than us,” Pochettino said after the game.

The result leaves Chelsea in 10th place with 31 points after 22 games, while Jurgen Klopp’s men established a five point difference on top of the log.

  • We’re learning how to beat defensive teams – Villa coach, Emery

We’re learning how to beat defensive teams – Villa coach, Emery

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery admits they’re finding more teams playing defensively against them.

Villa had to work hard to find a way to win at FA Cup opponents Middlesbrough on the weekend.

Emery said: “It is our next step as a team. We are facing a lot of teams who play with a low block and are respecting us a lot.

“Saturday (at Middlesbrough) was similar to Burnley, Zrinjski and Legia Warsaw. We know it and we are trying to add in our practice and preparation things which can help us face it.

“It is not easy to beat teams defending like that, particularly when they do it very well.

“For me, tactically it is exciting to face a difficult challenge and it is the same for our players.”

Emery added: “We are playing a lot of matches like this because teams in the Premier League, in Europe and the FA Cup are respecting us a lot.

“Our improvement means teams are facing us differently. We can improve by playing matches like this.”

Liverpool forward, Mohmmed Salah missed a penalty but scored another as he bagged a brace in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Newcastle at Anfield.

Liverpool dominated possession and overall play but failed to make it count as all efforts to score a goal in the first half proved abortive.

Salah who played his last game for Liverpool before heading to AFCON, made up for his earlier error and tapped home the opener just four minutes into the second-half.
However, the lead was short-lived, as Alexander Isak burst through to equalize for Eddie Howe’s side just five minutes later.

The Reds were almost made to pay for their missed chances in the first 45-minutes, after Dan Burn headed his effort past Alisson Becker in the Liverpool goal, only to see it ruled out due to an offside in the build-up.

As several minutes ticked by and a flurry of changes unfolded from Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool would go on to re-take the lead in a well-worked move ending in a Curtis Jones goal, before Cody Gakpo added a third.

in the 83d minute , Reds Defensive Midfider, MacAllister set up Jota who rounded up the Newcstle goale, Dubrsakabut fouled him in the process and the referee pointed to the spot.

Salah who initially missed a penalty in the first Half converted this time to put scores at 4-2.
