We need to end these fight-backs – David Moyes

West Ham United manager David Moyes admits he was putting on a ‘stick-on smile’ after the 3-2 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

The Hammers almost blew a 3-0 lead against Leicester, as they did against Arsenal recently.

And Moyes acknowledged he must fix the worrying pattern as West Ham look to secure fourth-place on the table.

“I’m not smiling,” Moyes said after the game. “This one is a stick-on smile today. This is a smile of anger because we nearly threw away another big three points for us and we don’t want to do that.

“We were 3-0 up against Arsenal and 3-0 up against Wolves and 3-0 up against Leicester and they’re incredible results, but they don’t sound that incredible when it goes 3-3, 3-2, 3-2.

“I’ve got to try and put an end to that. I can’t allow that to happen and we’ve got to be better.”

I want to end career in EPL – Man City winger

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez insists he’s happy at Etihad.

The Algeria international has been linked with Real Madrid.

But he told Canal+: “I always wanted to play in Ligue 1 when I was with Le Havre.

“But since I’ve been in the Premier League, I want to end up here. I love the championship, I really enjoy it. It’s football for me and I don’t see myself leaving this championship.

“But after all, anything can happen in football.”

This is where I want to play, Chelsea star declares

Chelsea star Kai Havertz admits he feels comfortable in a false nine role.

Havertz struck once and created another in their 4-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

And speaking after the match, Havertz confirmed he felt happiest in the false nine position and wants to remain there.

“Yeah I like it,” he said.

“I think it’s a good position for me.

“I think I have the freedom to go everywhere I want to go. As a striker it’s always easier to play.

“I hope I can continue like that.”

Salah relieved after Liverpool defeat Aston Villa

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was delighted after their late, late victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an injury-time winner as Liverpool came from behind to beat Aston Villa and end a run of six consecutive defeats at Anfield.

Ollie Watkins – who scored a hat-trick in Villa’s 7-2 win in the reverse game – fired the visitors ahead with a shot which squirmed through Alisson.

The Reds drew level when Salah headed into an empty net after Emiliano Martinez parried Andy Robertson’s cross.

And late on Alexander-Arnold curled home from the edge of the box after Villa failed to clear the ball.

Salah later said, “Finally! It was a great game, tough game but we won the game and that was the most important thing.

“We have lost a couple of games here and mentally it was like ‘oh no, not again’ but we did a good job second-half.

“It’s hard not to win at Anfield for a couple of games, we also missed a couple of chances in the first half and we were thinking ‘not again’ but the second half we managed to play good.

“It’s really important to win. I think there are only seven games left? So it’s really important. We want to play Champions League next year but we just need to focus on each game and try and win them all and hopefully, we can be in that fourth place.”

On Alexander-Arnold, he added: “I think he just needs to push himself. He’s been training well and he’s played really well the last couple of games. He just needs to try and keep focused – don’t listen to anyone, just try as hard as you can and it will come.”

EPL: Ten-man Leeds beat Man City at Etihad

Stuart Dallas scored an injury-time winner as 10-man Leeds United beat runaway leaders Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.

Dallas gave the visitors a surprise lead three minutes before the break with a low shot that went in off the inside of a post.

However, the dismissal of skipper Liam Cooper for a tackle on Gabriel Jesus before the opening period was over appeared to have given the visitors an impossible task.

City predictably dominated the second period but were made to wait until the 76th minute for their equaliser, when Ferran Torres drove home his first Premier League goal since December.

Instead of City completing a triumphant comeback, however, it was Leeds who came up with the winner as Dallas ran on to Ezgjan Alioski’s through ball before sending a shot past Ederson from the edge of the area.

It completed Leeds’ best win since their return to the top flight – and means Manchester United can cut City’s lead at the top to eight points if they win their games in hand against Tottenham and Burnley. City must take 11 points from their remaining six games to guarantee a third league title in four seasons.

EPL: West Brom coach names major Chelsea weakness

West Brom manager Sam Allardyce has identified a key weakness in Chelsea after Saturday’s win.

The Baggies inflicted a first defeat in Thomas Tuchel since his arrival in the Premier League back in January.

And they did so in some fashion, smashing the Blues 5-2 at Stamford Bridge with two goals each from Mattheus Pereira and Callum Robinson.

Allardyce has named Edouard Mendy as the weak link in the Blues side, insisting the former Rennes star was “rash”.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Allardyce said: “Letting them play out from the back for the goalkeeper would be a mistake.

“That may have been a tactic we used later in the game but if it works try and keep doing it for as long as possible.

“That’s why we played two split up front with Mateus Pereira and Mbaye Diagne. The press worked very, very well and there is something with their goalkeeper, who can be rash, he can rush out.

“If you saw the first goal we scored, he came dashing to the edge of his box and didn’t get anywhere near.

“We felt every time we went back to the goal and we put him under pressure that gave us good opportunities.

“Obviously you could say the sending off helped, playing against ten men, but you’ve got to beat what’s still a very good side.”

EPL: West Brom thrash Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Relegation threatened West Brom thrash Chelsea 5-2 at Stamford Bridge in the English Premier League on Saturday.

For the first time since 1978 West Brom win away at Chelsea.

The Baggies were as brilliant as the Blues, who had Thiago Silva sent off in the 29th minute, were abject.

The result moves the 19th-placed side to within seven points of 17th-placed Newcastle, and even if they do not manage the improbable and escape relegation, they will look back on this day with great pride.

Sam Allardyce’s men were outstanding on the counter-attack and each of their goals was of high quality.

Chelsea took an undeserved lead in the 27th minute when Christian Pulisic followed up after Marcos Alonso’s free-kick came off the post. However, two minutes later Chelsea’s day started to take a turn for the worse when Thiago was shown a second yellow for a rash challenge on Okay Yokuslu.

That was followed by a horror show in first-half stoppage time as Pereira took centre stage. The Brazilian’s first effort was a cute finish over Edouard Mendy before he finished off a gorgeous move with a low strike between three defenders. In between those goals, Matt Phillips produced a strike that came off the woodwork.

West Brom then went for the jugular as substitute Robinson made it 3-1 with a sensational side-foot volley before Mbaye Diagne finished off a sweet move with an even sweeter strike.

England midfielder Mason Mount, brought on at half-time, tapped in to reduce the deficit but the Baggies resisted other Chelsea threats before Robinson capped off a great day for the visitors with a clipped finish.

  • Chelsea’s top-four race dashed after Leeds draw

Chelsea’s top-four race dashed after Leeds draw

Chelsea’s aim for a top-four finish suffers a setback following their goalless draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Both sides missed several chances including Leeds opener eighth-minute opener through Patrick Bamford, which was ruled out for offside by VAR.

The home team also survived a major scar through an averted own goal resulting from Luke Ayling’s clearance which fired straight into Diego Llorente and back onto his own crossbar.

Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy denied a Roberts shot by tilting it off the woodwork as well as an effort from Raphina.

Despite firing blank, thanks to wastefulness upfront, the Blues maintained their unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel as they remain fourth with three points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham.

The Hammers who have played two games fewer than their London rivals face second-placed Manchester United at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Reacting after the game, Tuchel told BT Sport: “The pitch was super-hard to play. We had a couple of chances to go 1-0 up, and in the end they troubled us, and the more minutes you need to score, the more belief they have.

“There were enough chances, but sometimes it’s like this. I don’t want to be too harsh. As long as we have chances and touches in the box and don’t concede too many chances the results will be there. We need to accept this.”

Marcelo Bielsa also told BT Sport: “We value the point a lot, if there had to be a winner it wouldn’t have been us. In the first half they established a difference in comparison to us.“In the second half we were slightly better. The superiority they showed in the first half was greater than the superiority we showed in the second half. If we don’t play at the rhythm we play at, the differences between us would be a lot bigger.”

  • I know people have doubted me – Havertz

I know people have doubted me – Havertz

Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz admits it has taken him a while to find his best form.

Havertz did not get on the scoresheet, but was outstanding as the Blues battled to a 2-0 win at home over Everton in the Premier League on Monday.

And the German knows he must continue to deliver consistent performances for his side.

“It is difficult to say [if it is my best performance for Chelsea] but the first few months were difficult for me,” Havertz told The 5th Stand.

“I hope that I will get a lot of confidence now and carry on like this.

“Of course, it wasn’t easy to come here where everything was new. I have been here for seven months now though, so now it is time to perform.

“I know that in myself, I know many people have doubts about me. I just keep on going and working, trying to help my team in every training session and game. That’s the most important. I hope this performance will give me a lot of confidence. I hope to continue like this.”

EPL: Chelsea defeat Everton to revive top-four hopes

Chelsea scored a goal in each half to see off top-four rivals Everton and maintain Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start as Blues boss.

The hosts took the lead when Kai Havertz’s shot took a big deflection off Toffees defender Ben Godfrey.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made a fine save to deny Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and Havertz thought he had scored, but had handled the ball before finishing.

However, the hosts doubled their lead through a Jorginho penalty after Pickford brought down the impressive Havertz.

With 10 league games of the season left, Chelsea remain fourth and in the last Champions League qualifying spot, only three points behind third-placed Leicester and four adrift of Manchester United in second.

Crucially, this victory takes the Blues four points clear of Everton in fifth and Carlo Ancelotti’s side – who have a game in hand over Chelsea – will drop to sixth if West Ham avoid defeat against Leeds in Monday’s late game.

Chelsea have not been beaten since a 2-0 loss at Leicester in Frank Lampard’s penultimate game as manager on 19 January, with Tuchel yet to suffer defeat in 11 matches in charge.
